An Interior Department auditor said he was told not to audit Shell Oil's increase in "oil transportation" costs from $.75 to $3.00 per barrel, even though it greatly raised U.S. payments to the oil company. "Laws and regulations were not applied," said Bob Maxwell, whose job was eliminated shortly after he began pressing the issue.

This was poorly stated by me but read the article and get mad. It won't help matters but you will feel better.

I feel a rant coming on!!!!

Lipz, using his amazing powers of foresight will predict the outcome.

A few low-level int. dept. emps. will lose their jobs. maybe a small fine or two for the oil companies. corruption continues. and everybody lived happily ever after.

I have a philosophical question.

I know this is gonna give christians a format from which to tell me why I need christ in my life, and how I'm gonna go to hell if I don't (It's a service they provide for free), but here goes anyway.

Have we become more psychotic as a society, or does it just seem that way because of the speed of information?

I know this; We have such a carefully crafted set of bullshit laws and codes, that there are people in this country that are not answerable to any laws or powers or potentates or even the constitution (both repub and demo). How can this be?

So everything is ok, as long as you don't get caught, and if you do, just make sure you are on the correct side of the 'have/have not' divide and everything will be fine.

Cult of corruption within the entire Bush Administration. Glad it'll be over soon.

The bush Mis-Administration has been corrupt from BEFORE day 1.
That critter is rotting from the top down!

No answers, huh?

I'm serious, have we become more psychotic or does it just seem that way?

There's really nothing new in this story. We've always known the Bush Administration was a puppet for the energy industry. The Bush-Exxon-Halliburton White House is all about helping the oil companies rape Americans of every cent until the entire system collapses.

So everything is ok, as long as you don't get caught, and if you do, just make sure you are on the correct side of the 'have/have not' divide and everything will be fine.

It's morphed into a 21st century monarchy, 'cept they don't wear a crown, they give the plebe the finger as a mark of royalty: rich, powerful, above the law.

Oh, it would just be unfair to tax these wonderful folks who love America so much.

I just heard a new term on the radio I really like:

Economic Treason.

White House is all about helping the oil companies rape Americans of every cent until the entire system collapses.

The system will collapse because congress dosen't know how to stop spending and they keep passing "PC" shit. It started with the "New Deal" and the "great Society" pushed it even farther. It is all about entitlements that we can't afford.

" It started with the "New Deal" and the "great Society" pushed it even farther"

And Bush had the opportunity to reverse it with the true surplusses he had delivered to his doorstep, and majorities in both houses of Congress. Instead, he and his cronies chose tax cuts for the wealthiest, leading to the largest deficits known to man, and a war of choice on the credit card.

"It is all about entitlements that we can't afford."

But we're still bailing out the Wall Street Welfare Queens, aren't we?

"Have we become more psychotic as a society, or does it just seem that way because of the speed of information?"

I'd say both are true. The latter exacerbates the former.

Lip it's nothing new.

The speed and the complete innundation of information regarding just how often we get fucked over by the privledged classes, however, is pretty new and is probably what is bothering you.

These same stories of cronyism, corruption, greed, class warfare, etc. are told over and over again throughout history. The times may change, but peoples' motivations do not.

Agree with #12

A "Cult of Corruption" in the Oil Biz?

Say it aint so!!

George "Failed Oilman" Bush?
Dick "Halliburton" Cheney.
Condi "Got a tanker named after me" Rice?

The Oilygarchy that is BushCo allowed BigOil to make illegal profits offa the government?

Shocked, Spud is shocked Eye tells ya!

"It is all about entitlements that we can't afford."

~SNiPA

Yup, but not in the sense you meant.

The entitlements are all going to the megacorps and the hyper rich not just in America but around the globe and all that money is coming from the exploited American working classes and especially the dwindling middle class.

The redistribution of wealth from the poor to the rich is wot got you here.

Unfortunately, there are still far too many sheeple like Snippy here who argue against their own economic self interest because they've been brainwashed by years of propaganda that says that anything which helps out the poor and the middle class is akin to communism and that enlarging the corporate welfare state is capitalism at it's finest.

That level of dumb doesn't happen by accident.

Be Well.

""It sounds like they forgot they work for the government," he said. "It's disgusting. ... There's no excuse for that. Those people should not be working in those positions at all."

government corruption? say it ain't so!

"The system will collapse because congress dosen't know how to stop spending and they keep passing "PC" shit. It started with the "New Deal" and the "great Society" pushed it even farther. It is all about entitlements that we can't afford."

That isn't even a good deflection Sniper, you can do better. Try the Clinton deflection or even the Carter deflection. I shouldn't have to give you pointers on how to be a right wing tool. Get with it man.

Extraction Industries and their Government "Supervisors" are rotten liars and thieves.

Indians successfully sued for $47 billion in misdirected Royalty payments, only to have Clinton differ any payment, then later Bush fired the Judge in the case that Reagan had appointed.

Anything but actually pay them, they're fucking Indians, not like Wall Streeters, who obviously deserve $700 billion.

You libs are licking your chops because you think that the GOP is on the ropes, but you forgot the race card, the Supreme Court, and Diebold.

Cult is the wrong word. It implies a sub-sect of the GOP. For them, it`s the Religion of Corruption.

aka Mammonism.

"but you forgot the race card, the Supreme Court, and Diebold."

I will admit I prefer honest scum bags to dishonest scum bags. FWTHOM is at least an honest scum bag.
But actually, I don't think the cowards on the right will actually have the guts to steal this one.

from the article -

"Laws and regulations were not applied," said Bob Maxwell, whose job was eliminated shortly after he began pressing the issue....

"Laws and regulations were not applied" pretty much sums up the entire eight years of the Bush Administration. Whether it came to financial investments on Wall Street, consumer safety product inspections, fairness when making free trade treaties, anything and everything.

When it came to Bush NO laws and regulations were ever applied -- not when it might stand in the way of corporate profit.

Bush and the Republicans have a fancy word for it known as "deregulation" -- something they still push for to this day even though they have left our country in tatters, millions out of work, our economy on the brink of collapse, millions sickened due to no product or health inspections of foreign imports, and still in the middle of Iraq -- Bush's pre-emptive war to enrich himself and his Republican corporate cronies with fat war profiteering contracts.

Good article in Time Magazine last week which interviews a number of middle class white families who had traditionally always voted Republican. Not this year. They were quoted as being fed up with Republican greed and their destruction of our nation.

Republicans have their stupid "trickle down" philosophy which is a joke. Repubs say "Give the money to the rich and they'll create businesses and jobs for y'all and their wealth will trickle down to you too." BS It may have "trickled down" but it only trickled over to China. That's where the new business factories were created -- not here. I don't think the Republicans in DC have the remotest clue how angry and fed up Americans are with their greed.

Even just two days ago McCain was still babbling about pushing deregulation, only this time for the health insurance providers. McCain and the Republicans just don't "get it" and never will.

OH, THEY GET IT, THEY ALREADY GOT IT AND AS FAR AS THEY'RE CONCERNED THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.

Do you think that someone out there has a plan to create an America where a small, super-wealthy elite, owning most property, a small professional class keeping things going and a very large under class providing the manual labor at low wages? Back to the 17th century folks.

Danni,

They don't have to steal this election. They can go ahead and let Obama win. Might have to change some of the ways they screw the middle and lower classes who knows maybe even use some lube but it will still happen.

I blame Cheney first. What a crook!
