"Laws and regulations were not applied," said Bob Maxwell, whose job was eliminated shortly after he began pressing the issue....
"Laws and regulations were not applied" pretty much sums up the entire eight years of the Bush Administration. Whether it came to financial investments on Wall Street, consumer safety product inspections, fairness when making free trade treaties, anything and everything.
When it came to Bush NO laws and regulations were ever applied -- not when it might stand in the way of corporate profit.
Bush and the Republicans have a fancy word for it known as "deregulation" -- something they still push for to this day even though they have left our country in tatters, millions out of work, our economy on the brink of collapse, millions sickened due to no product or health inspections of foreign imports, and still in the middle of Iraq -- Bush's pre-emptive war to enrich himself and his Republican corporate cronies with fat war profiteering contracts.
Good article in Time Magazine last week which interviews a number of middle class white families who had traditionally always voted Republican. Not this year. They were quoted as being fed up with Republican greed and their destruction of our nation.
Republicans have their stupid "trickle down" philosophy which is a joke. Repubs say "Give the money to the rich and they'll create businesses and jobs for y'all and their wealth will trickle down to you too." BS It may have "trickled down" but it only trickled over to China. That's where the new business factories were created -- not here. I don't think the Republicans in DC have the remotest clue how angry and fed up Americans are with their greed.
Even just two days ago McCain was still babbling about pushing deregulation, only this time for the health insurance providers. McCain and the Republicans just don't "get it" and never will.
