Neither Obama nor any other Democrat Senator signed the letter, or was alarmed. The Democrats are trying to shift blame on to the Republicans for the Democrat dereliction and furtherance of schemes that mulcted the taxpayer and led to the current economic fiasco.

Alas 'twas always thus, where appearance triumphed over substance.

If there were any justice in this world, Rep. Barney Frank, charged with oversight, and Sen. Dodd, and others would be held to account for being the enablers of the current malaise, since they are the ones who pushed "community development" practices of making no equity loans to minorities, who could not pay them, and of creating a Fannie-Freddie market for the bad paper, so that the loans would be made and sold, and money constantly recirculated in the market with more and more bad paper floating around.

Oh, here's a link to the actual May 5, 2006 letter warning of the impending disaster.

"Bottom Gun" McCain is certainly familiar with crashes.

Won't see McSidekick on this list.

"Now that a full-scale economic crisis is upon us, many are left asking the complicated but necessary question of how did we get here. While there are numerous individuals and institutions who deserve their share of the blame, it is also important to recognize those issued warnings about the fragility of the financial system and sounded the alarm about an impending collapse before it all came crashing down.

Below is the beginning of our look at some of the figures--politicians, economists, pundits--whose observations about our financial situation have come to seem all too prescient. Please check back as more names are added to our list and by all means let us know who else deserves credit for having seen our current meltdown coming."

Gotta love this attempt by Retardicans to blame Democrats for this current capitalist crisis, rather than the free market fundamentalism that brought it on.

Letter dated May 5, 2006

Addressed to Republican from Republicans while Republicans hold the Congress, The Senate, The White House (Both Houses), and will hold total control for another 7 months after a run of almost 5 1/2 years.

vitally important that Congress take the necessary steps

The Republicans were obviously Incapable.

"Johnson, a deluded fool who thinks George W. Bush is a great president"

"McCain a hero who warned of Fannie Freddie crash"

So warning of a problem now makes one a hero.

I'm sure Johnson will be praising Clinton for warning the Bush administration on the dangers posed by Osama bin Laden while they transitioned power between administrations.

Uh..., there's more to the story:

www.politifact.com

www.politifact.com

Politifact.com gives Sen. McCain a "Half True" rating.

Factcheck.org goes into a bit more detail:
www.factcheck.org

All in all, Sen. McCain's efforts were tepid (at best) and were hardly thwarted by the Democrats.

But don't let these tidbits get in the way of a good story...

"So warning of a problem now makes one a hero."

Unless it's Jimmy Carter warning of the impending oil crisis.

But as everyone knows, as Jimmy was trying to divert the nations interest with his oil crisis nonsense, he was busy engineering the current financial crisis.

Unless it's Jimmy Carter

LOL Jimmy Left Office almost 3 Decades ago.

Do Try to keep up......

The Community Reinvestment Act didn't force mortgage companies to offer loans for no-money down, or to throw underwriting standards out the window, or to encourage mortgage brokers to aggressively seek out new markets. Nor did the CRA force the credit-rating agencies to slap high-grade ratings on subprime debt.

So McCain saw the crisis coming, and even though his party controlled both houses of Congress and the White House, he couldn't do anything to stop it? Doesn't sound like a very effectual leader to me. This is the one you want running the show?

The Community Reinvestment Act didn't force

And 9/11 didn't give Shrub cause to Invade Iraq.

Both needed Careful and Willful Intent.

So McCain saw the crisis coming, and even though his party controlled both houses of Congress and the White House, he couldn't do anything to stop it? Doesn't sound like a very effectual leader to me. This is the one you want running the show?

Newsworthy

Not only that, but McCain signed on as a "co-sponsor" a year after the original bill was proposed and died in a Republican chaired and dominated committee.

Trying to take credit. Obama warned of the sub-prime feasco that lead to Fannie and Fredie putting all this bad paper together. McCain didn't see it tell the F&F boys got the paper.

Gordon Gekko is laughing, in comfort, extreme comfort.....................

? Doesn't sound like a very effectual leader to me. This is the one you want running the show?

He really showed the Party was behind him when he suspended his campaign to go save the economy too. And that was just last month.

Face it, the only reason the GOppers support him is because he's they guy their stuck with. and they're still praying for a Cindi/sarah wet tee shirt ad.

have a wonderfull day

If McCain had been talking about this for the last two years instead of a little blurb two years ago on a bill he joined a year late--he might have some crediblity. As it is---he said the foundations of the American economy were strong just two weeks ago. He knows nothing about economics, and his chief advisor---Gramm---was the architect that put the dregulation train on track.

I know McCain tried to cover his ass by saying he MEANT that the American worker was the foundation of the economy and the American worker was strong. Bullshit. If you believe that--you are stupid enough to vote for him. He said FOUNDATIONS--plural---and the foundations of the American economy are not strong---thanks to him and his bleating for deregulation for the past 26 years.

Well stated BB!

Johnson, we are all still waiting for your praise for Clinton.

BB...........please...........
.mccain wasnt just talking about the american worker. he was trying not to set off a panic and he was EXACTLY RIGHT.

the economy going into 2006 and for a bit afterwards was solid. unemployment was higher than AT ANY TIME IN THE 90's and the market was higher than ever and there was good news all over the place with some not so good about wages and all that

and then.............THE DEMOCRAT CONGRESS TOOK OVER AND TWO YEARS LATER>.........

well...........

and now the bush administration has been working WITH OTHERS to turn it around and the market went up HIGHER THAN AT ANY TIME IN ITS HISTORY.........

so if johnson has to praise clinton, then I want to hear a LF praise bush for his work on this now.......

IT DIDINT JUST HAPPEN WITHOUT HIM>........

havent been on a binge in years and years and years.........

Ya gotta understand sbout AU ..........

A binge isn't an event for him. It's a lifestyle.

Paying for pussy is like paying for booze.

For losers

AU is an accomplished musician so he CANT be all bad........

be carefull though......someday you might find yourself old like the rest of us and look more foreward to a good shit more than a good piece of ass.................

Bl2

You are completely insane. Your logic functions no longer function. Reality has absolutely no meaning for you.

Seriously.

mccain wasnt just talking about the american worker. he was trying not to set off a panic and he was EXACTLY RIGHT.

Like whatever McCain said would have any effect whatsoever. Do you thnk his words can alter reality? Probably so. Your thinking is like someone thinking if you don't tell a child about sea-sickness when riding a boat--the child won't get sea-sick. McCain simply believed at the moment he said it---that the FOUNDATIONS of the American economy were strong. He believed it--he was wrong. If your point had any merit--he wouldn't have stated just TWO HOURS later---that there were deep economic problems. So much for trying to not set off a panic. So much for your view of reality.

the economy going into 2006 and for a bit afterwards was solid. unemployment was higher than AT ANY TIME IN THE 90's and the market was higher than ever and there was good news all over the place with some not so good about wages and all that

Really---Yet you mindlessly cite McCains warnings about Fannie and Freddie in 2006. If things were going so good---why were any warnings necessary? The facts are it was the GRAMM-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 that started the avalanche. It wasn't an overnight phenomenon. You have been told this before---yet you still ignore reality. It is part of your illness.

and then.............THE DEMOCRAT CONGRESS TOOK OVER AND TWO YEARS LATER>.........

well...........

Well what? Finish your statement. What legislation was passed by the dems that caused this mess? See how your brain stops there, and doesn't go any frther? That's the disease. Dems are not the majority in the Senate. That is reality. If you can still count to fifty, you will see that there aren't enough dems to reach that number.

and now the bush administration has been working WITH OTHERS to turn it around and the market went up HIGHER THAN AT ANY TIME IN ITS HISTORY.........

The market went up because Britain nationalized their banks----and the new proposal from Paulson to do the same with American banks.

so if johnson has to praise clinton, then I want to hear a LF praise bush for his work on this now.......

IT DIDINT JUST HAPPEN WITHOUT HIM>........

Exactly what actions do you think Bush took or has taken in this crisis to make things better? What did he sign? Where did he go? Who did he talk to? What did he say?
