When Sarah Palin went onto the Wachovia Center ice Saturday night in Philadelphia, she was greeted by a loud chorus of boos from the Flyers crowd.

Just caught the ceremonial puck dropping by Sarah Palin this evening on MSG network (for those of you that don't know, the New York sports network) at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia at the Flyers home opener against the Rangers, she got one of the loudest booings I've ever heard! It was as if they were trying to play the fanfare music as loud as they could and the boos still drowned out the music!

The pregame announcer on MSG network alluded to Palin being "Tina Fey's impersonator" and it looked like few of the other announcers could take it seriously -- Alaska native Brandon Dubinsky of the Rangers took the middle road when asked what he thought about Palin, and it looked like Scott Gomez of the Rangers, also from Alaska, as if he couldn't take himself seriously!!

"A carpet was laid down and Palin, dressed in a beige trench, walked on to the ice joined by her daughters Willow and Piper. The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, "How dare they boo Piper!"

Sarah, they weren't booing Piper. They were booing YOU

AU

Don't forget SNL tonight. It's probably on in a few minutes Tennessee time.

The video was so loud and noisy I couldn't make out much of anything --
not the band music, not the booing, or the yelling -- just a bunch of background noise

Palin Booed by Philly Fans - FORBES

Last time she was in Philly she went out jogging in a New York Rangers jersey - a HUGE no no.

"Hockey mom" who became a "hockey mom" when her son was sent to a juvenile offender facility in Michigan (where he played hockey) for cutting the brake lines on school buses.

She gets boo'ed in Alaska too, I don't think shes a vaer popular person. The first stud is on the phone threating anyone who looks the wrong way at Sarah's body.

I have a feeling the Alaskan Legislature (Republican dominated) will be taking a good look at a lot of this 'reformers' actions.

Hockey Mom or Horse Hockey Mom ;-)?

Shouldn't those kids be in school? Most politicians bring out the kids for a speech or two, but she drags them around like they're a fashion accessory. Some family values.

So-called Hockey Mom didn't even come close to dropping the puck in the fake faceoff of the game.
This hockey-mom became a hockey mom when her son was caught cutting brake-lines and he was sent to reform school in Michigan and she came down to watch him play hockey.

There's better sound quality on this link.

As much as I am against Sarah Palin becoming VP, I could not find anything to substantiate this. Do you have any links? This article states that buses were vandalized, but not that the brake lines were cut.

Booing Palin is sexist. Hey, why not? If booing Obama at rallys is racist and incites hatred, then booing Palin at a sports event must be sexist and incites hatred.

LOL

A minute and a half of Booing.

Maybe she forgot the lipstick.

Hilarious.

Funny these liberals are getting so jealous and crazy --- no one seem to hear the thunderous approvals Teflon Palin received.

Maybe some boos, but definitely plenty cheers. Evidence of jealousy? Ignoring the cheers and exaggerating the boos!

That was the McCain immigration amnesty bill. Surely you remember that one, McCain voted against it after sponsoring it. Not that is maverickalicious.

Didn't you hear? The illegals are not coming here any longer since the economy went in the shitter. Seems that the Republicans solved the illegal immigration problem after all.

Exaggerating my ass. I was at the game and while there were some cheers there were far more boos or people yelling things at her. This is Philly, we throw shit at Santa Claus...you think we're really going to cheer for some hypocritical hick cause she's pretending to like our team? That lady jinxed the game!

I saw this hockey game clip on FOX news this morning. I was able to hear the boos for Palin much clearer this time than when I only watched the video.

Booing is not polite, especially when her little girl was with her, but the political climate is so ((((HOT)))) right now I'm surprised the ice in the arena didn't melt. Sarah! better get used not only to cheers but to plenty of jeers until this election is over. That's why you never see Cheney at any public event that's not GOP sponsored (and rarely even then). The booing would send the roof off the place.

People are not pleased with Republicans now -- to say the least. I have already voted in the 2008 election. My absentee ballot was sent in last week. I voted for a Republican California State Senator because we are lop-sided with super liberal Democrats in our California State Senate and Assemby. I also voted to keep my Democrat Congressman Adam Schiff in for another term because (1) he voted against the $700 billion bailout bill (he's a blue-dog Democrat) and (2) because whenever you call his office about an issue he responds to you either by letter or email. As a registered Independent I do not vote straight party line (and never did). I vote for the best person for the particular office.

Thanks for a laugh to go with my morning coffee. :)

Go Flyers!!

I saw Palin kiss the hockey players--isn't that sexist? Would McCain have kissed them?

ZAT

"whenever you call his office about an issue he responds"

WTF!?!?!?

Perhaps I should have clarified it a bit. lol!

It's not a response from him personally on the phone. I only rate an office staffer. lol.
But whatever issue I call about I get either a letter or email back from his office in his name. And they are not always "form letters" because sometimes my question or issue requires a particular answer not always set up in a form letter style. I rarely call his office but when I do I don't need to leave a message on some "comment line" but always get to talk to a staff person and do receive a response.

Why would that kind of response surprise you, ZAT? Does your Texas Congressman hang up on you when his office hears it's you on the other end of the phone? hahahaha

"Would McCain have kissed them?"

Posted by Buffalo_Bob

I'm going to have to bleach my imagination after that.

Booing is not polite, especially when her little girl was with her

Having her kids with her reeked of trying to preempt the reception she was going to receive. Clearly the McCain campaign thought either way they could turn it into a "win." Booing her child? She had that covered: "How dare they boo Piper!" No booing? She's popular!

Ed Snider, Flyers owner is a McCain supporter and has donated the maximum (4,600) to McCain and 20,400 to the RNC.

www.opensecrets.org

The booing may not have been directed only at Palin.

Actually I've never called.

I saw Palin kiss the hockey players -- isn't that sexist? Would McCain have kissed them?

Hey, did you see those hockey hunks?????

I don't blame Sarah one bit. I would have gone for a big lip lock with them too. lol

JIMMYWALLBACK,

Its a good thing that illegals entering this blessed nation has slowed down --- but some are still coming.

Reality is that there are millions of illegals here living a decent live and hoping for better days when they can turn legal. AND THE BETTER DAYS ARE COMING! They will receive a chance to turn legal. As for McCain on this issue, he toned down because many Whites are unwilling to open a crack for illegals to get relief.

Dfiant, maybe you saw and heard more of what you wanted to see and hear because of your predisposition, part illusion. But there were plenty cheers and clappings too.

Illegals! Help is on the way!

Obama's daughters are in Illinois attending school. The last time they were shown an event was Obama's acceptance speech for the Democratic nomination.

Chances are our tax dollars paid for the flight to the game for palin and her daughters---your tax dollars at work. You don't think Palin paid for anything do you? Not after she charges the state per diem for living in her own house.

Exactly. Why people have to make stuff up about Obama and his daughters is beyond me---do they really believe that stuff? Is the stuff they make up in their head somehow transformed into reality for them?

It's a matter of perception. Unless I've missed something, the last time Palin's kids were out in public, also, was the convention. One time since then really isn't a big pattern of parading the kids around. Show me it happening 5 or 6 times and I'll agree with you.

Otherwise, you're making stuff up.

"and prop baby that is so drugged it can't lift its head"

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed that. I do not believe that Trig is drugged. I think that poor baby is so severely afflicted that he simply cannot lift his head or anything else. There are various degrees of Down Syndrome and I am betting that baby has one of the mose severe forms. I have a good friend who watched the VP debate with me and she is also an OB nurse. She looked at that baby after the debate was over and shook her head. At six months, he should be able to kick his legs, wave his arms, focus visually and grab at shiny objects. That poor little baby did none of those things. I have not seen him, in all the times I have seen him in the arms of various family members, EVER move so much as a finger. And those people are hauling him all over Hell and Gone like he is a sack of potatoes, as a prop. They should be ashamed of themselves and as far as I am concerned, that treatment borders on child abuse.

I said "chances are"---do you understand that phrase? It's in English, so I can understand your confusion. "Chances are" means it is not an absolute statement. That means I did not claim the Palin is using tax dollars for her visit to the hockey game. "Chances are" means that I believe their is a greater chance for her presence there being paid for by tax dollars rather than her own money, since she doesn't even use her own money when living at her own house--the Alaskan government pays her a per diem for living at her own house. Given those circumstances as far as her finances goes---I doubt she used her own money to travel to Philly to go to a hockey game.

Now--if you are claiming she used her own money---pop out that link A-hole--or at least show an instance where she used her own money for anything--even that Jersey she stuck her daughter in---what a....

If you ever proved me dead wrong, I would certainly admit it. That's what adults do. You however were proven a liar when you said I insisted that Buzz Aldrin saw aliens.

No where did I ever make the statement that Buzz Aldrin saw aliens. No matter how many times I proved your lies--you would never admit it. You still have a chance.

Cut and paste that post where I said Buzz Aldrin saw aliens.

Other than that---be a man and admit you misspoke.

Dawn...I don't know. If they were to do the opposite and steadfastly keep the child out of the public eye, it would just a matter of time before some reactionaries from our side of the corral would start whispering that they are hiding something.

I guess you think you can read minds--most republicans think they are gifted with that power. What about Obamas kids? No one seems to be asking where they are--what about Bushs kids? No one asked where they were when he was running. What about Clintons kid? No one was asking where she was when Clinton was running.

But you know what everyone would do if Palin didn't drag her kids all over the country at taxpayer expense.

I have to discount your opinion since you seem to be against civil liberties for Americans, and against an organization that fights for civil liberties for Americans. The only thing that separates America from other countries is civil liberties--freedom. To be opposed to civil liberties is to be opposed to America and what America stands for. If your brain is that warped, chances are your hearing is warped also.

If you built it, they will come.

It was capitalized out of proper English--to capitalize proper nouns--like Leaning Tower of Pisa--not out of reverence. I know the source of the biblical god---it was a god named Enlil---he was the god that wanted mankind to die in the flood--only to be thwarted by another god--Enki--who told Zuisidra to build an ark. Enlil was also the god who changed the language of mankind at the Tower of Babel. Enki was the god that created mankind, and Enlil was the god that kicked mankind out of the Garden of Eden.

But, the biggest irony? Enlil was pretty much an evil god as far as mankind was concerned, and Enki was the creator of mankind and its saviour when Flood time rolled around. Yet all three major religions worship the evil god based on Enlil and revile the god based on Enki as Satan. Enki's symbol was a snake, and his logo was two snakes entwined around a staff with the symbol of his home at the top--a winged disc. Enki was the chief scientist and medical officer of these ancient gods, and his logo is still used by the medical profession today.

The weirdest fact? There is far more evidence for these old gods than there is for Jesus. More eyewitnesses--more proof as far as scientific evidence.

"NYT Pulls Misleading Account of Palin Puck Dropping Ceremony"

"The New York Times took the unusual step of quickly editing and replacing a hysterical post by hockey blogger Lynn Zinser that covered Sarah Palin's appearance at the Philadelphia Flyers home opener where she was invited to drop a ceremonial puck. In her original post Zinser exaggerated the boos by the crowd, attacked Flyers owner Ed Snider for inviting Palin to the event and appears to have fabricated the discomfort felt by NHL players Scott Gomez and Mike Richards."

Uhh.

newsbusters.org

The fact that newsbusters is usually pretty reliable about this sort of thing might be what makes me think that.

Most relevant part:

"Claim: "Palin came out to onto the Wachovia Center ice Saturday night greeted by resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd"

Fact: While the crowd did initially boo Sarah Palin those boos were quickly drowned out by applause as she took to the ice. Even the Associated Press noted this occurrence in their coverage.

The Alaska governor and self-described "hockey mom" heard a few boos when she walked onto the ice, but that soon turned to polite applause as she headed to center ice with Mike Richards of the Flyers and Scott Gomez from Alaska of the Rangers.

Palin waved to the crowd and smiled as she dropped the puck to applause and cheers. Palin stuck around and watched two periods in the Rangers' 4-3 win over the Flyers."

sooo.. that means the whole thing turned out to be a lie.

I mean, they are a right-leaning source so take their editorial bias with a bit of salt, but even the Associated Press said that the boos were drowned out almost instantly. They're _not_ known to be partisan hacks.

So, while the headline _does technically_ stay true, it's pretty disingenuous. I mean, I guess so long as at _least_ two fans were booing it remains true, but since it was thunderous applause by the time she dropped the puck, I'm thinking that it's dishonest to blow this story the direction it ended up heading.

Trying to find a video of the actual puck drop, to see how "thunderous" said applause was.

www.youtube.com

There ya go. this has better audio then the one linked in. I wouldn't call it thunderous applause per se, but the boos were almost instantly drowned out.

No. Anyone even vaguely honest can tell the audio on that has been seriously screwed up. I wanted clear audio.

Especially hilarious is the video maker saying "Those aren't cheers, that's static". What he meant to say was "I played with the pitch, dropout, and tone a lot but I STILL couldn't make it sound like booing".

Read the thread, Ed.

Makes sense to me. Philly fans are notorious for booing and Philly is a pretty darned "Blue" town. Hell, It's Philly and Pittsburgh that make PA a blue state.

To make it clear: newbusters _was_ full of shit when they called it "thunderous applause". However, they were correct in reporting the booing was drowned out quickly by applause. Did they show bias in how they reported the lie? Yes. Was the initial story about Palin being booed overhwelmingly a lie? Also yes.

Further, the video posted at the top of this thread is also so much garbage. The one I found should be replacing it. A quick canvas of the videos all over youtube show the one up top here to be manipulated at worst, and just really crappy audio at best.

Update from when I looked at the Newsbusters story again: Holy crap they aren't calling it "Thunderous Applause" anymore. Is someone at Newsbusters _reading this thread_ and figured somebody would make a big deal aobut the word "thunderous"? lol. C'mon, fess up. Who are you?

Is someone at Newsbusters _reading this thread_

Brent Bozell? Are you reading this?

In it's final stages, terminal cognitive dissonance is at least entertaining.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

nope. she was booed throughout. cheers rang through after the drop, but she was booed nonetheless.

So you _are_ saying the Associated Press is full of shit, then. You're saying that the Associated Press lies when they said

"The Alaska governor and self-described "hockey mom" heard a few boos when she walked onto the ice, but that soon turned to polite applause as she headed to center ice with Mike Richards of the Flyers and Scott Gomez from Alaska of the Rangers.

Palin waved to the crowd and smiled as she dropped the puck to applause and cheers. Palin stuck around and watched two periods in the Rangers' 4-3 win over the Flyers."

Think carefully here, this is not some rightwing tank you're claling a liar. You are calling the AP liars. You're willing to go on the record as accusing the AP of not being a reliable news source?

Further keep in mind: the story that ignited all of this was retracted and changed.

then, YAAAAAYYYYYYYY!

C'mon, fess up. Who are you?

C'mon, Zap. Get on the bus here. Are _you_ also saying the Associated Press is nothing but a bunch of liars, then?

SF, listen to any of the sources. AU's link, your link, Rein's link... they all start the same. She was heartily booed when she took the ice. "A few boos" is definitely understated. Were the boos as raucous by the time she dropped the puck, no.

This is entertaining.

Dropping the puck means the bullshit minute is over.

That would bring applause no matter what political hero was squandering the fans' time.

Current text on Newbusters:

"Lynn Zinser took the path most traveled, using the initial boos by left leaning Philly fans as a springboard to fabricate a narrative that is out of line with reality."

Original text on Newsbusters:

"Lynn Zinser took the path most traveled. Using the initial boos by left leaning Philly fans as a springboard to fabricate a narrative that is out of line with reality, completely ignoring the thunderous applause to which she dropped the puck."

I still have the original story cut and pasted to Wordpad for quotational usage. Arguably it could just be blamed on fixing the sloppy grammar in the original.

Two members of the AP Board of Directors:

Rupert Murdoch
Chairman and chief executive officer
News Corp.
New York, NY

Sam Zell
Chairman and chief executive officer
Tribune Company
Chicago, IL

We all learned about the AP a while back with their lawyers threatening the Retort. You touting the AP isn't going to win you any points.

A few boos is not "heartily booed". The other stories do NOT look like the AP one.

Right. So you're saying that the Associated Press is lying. Got it. Noted, I'll keep that in the back of my mind for if you ever quote the AP to make a point.

The AP threatening someone for allowing mass uncredited portions of their text to appear on a website is not at all relevant to their longstanding history of being a credible news outlet.

It's only relevant to their desire to ensure their work is properly protected.

Ignore who's now on their board. Good job, Sohei.

You do know how the stories reported under the AP byline are collected and submitted and by whom?

Just curious. The bias in AP is an interesting study. You might want to check it out sometime.

Or you could go on believing that there are some sources which are the golden standard of News reporting.

forget AP. listen to your own link. unlike some here, I'm too stupid to know who said what, so I won't be quoting AP or anyone else anytime soon. I just know what I hear.

maybe I'm too sober...

Unless we are STILL taking the mere _presence_ of Rupert Murdoch,

("In a 2008 interview with Walt Mossberg, Murdoch was asked whether he had "anything to do with the New York Post's endorsement of Barack Obama." Without hesitation, Murdoch replied, "Yeah. He is a rock star. It's fantastic. I love what he is saying about education. I don't think he will win Florida...but he will win in Ohio and the election. I am anxious to meet him. I want to see if he will walk the walk.")

as instant proof that the source must be biased.

By the way, chief? Yeah the Chicago Tribune is an overwhelmingly liberal-slanted newspaper. That's why I still subscribe to it in Montana, I like to get a less right-oriented slant on the news. So, even if we are to argue that Rupert Murdoch.. who believes Obama will win.. is a super right winger, it's pretty easily countered by the presence of some bigwig from the Trib.

It looks like Soheifox relies on news to tell him what reality is---the video isn't good enough.

A story retracted---and Soeheifox thinks there was no political influence involved---especially since anyone can see the video.

If the AP reports unreliable news---they are an unreliable news source. See how it works?

Simple isn't it.

;-)

No shit. Not only that, but the AP is some "golden standard" of News.

Or not, turns out said bigwig is not a superliberal himself, but more somewhere in the middle. Had to read a bit longer on Zell.

So that's the statement I'm getting here, that the AP is a tainted source, despite being respected for it's neutrality and integrity nonstop since the late 1800's.

Is anyone here not saying that? Just so I can keep track here.

No shit. Not only that, but the AP is some "golden standard" of News.

They have been. Since the late 1800's. Really, the _entire world_ recognizes the AP as exactly that, a golden standard of news reporting, right up there with Reuters and that.. French one... I think it;s called French Press.

I am not even _vaguely_ alone in thinking of the AP that way, guys. The world AT LARGE seems to agree with me on this.

I think people are saying that you believe a news source over your own ears---which is weird. Unless you can't hear the boos---which is weird.
