The NRA Betrays Gun Owners

National Rifle Association endorses McCain

ap.google.com

The NRA sold out the right of gun owners of the sake of political expediency.

www.lp.org

Let's take a look at how the NRA feels about Sen. John McCain.

In 2001, NRA President Wayne LaPierre said, "Is it possible that John McCain thinks you have too much freedom?" According to NewsMax, LaPierre was angry over advertisements McCain appeared in for Americans for Gun Safety, an anti-Second Amendment group who's website now points to the Brady campaign, and McCain-Lieberman, a bill designed to close the so-called "gun show loophole."

After appearing in the ads, the NRA called McCain, "one of the premier flag carriers for the enemies of the Second Amendment" and "the poster boy for Americans For Gun Safety." Strong words.

By the way, McCain's position hasn't changed on the "loophole" issue.

As early as April of this year, NRA Executive Director Chris Cox told The Hill, "John McCain still has some work to do" to gain the trust of the NRA. Cox added, "Truth be told, he's not there yet."

In 2004, the NRA issued lifetime rankings of all members of Congress. Sen. McCain received a "C+", indicating a mixed record on the Second Amendment.

Bob Barr has an "A+" lifetime rating from the NRA. Bob serves on the board of the NRA. His record on the Second Amendment is without question.

I just can't beleive that Gun Control is still an issue in elections.

The simple minds of simple people are easily controlled.

I don't care how you vote but please base your decision on an issue that fucking matters.

I would hope Bob Barr quits the NRA and joins a real gun owner's rights organization. What a slap in the face this is to supporters of the Second Amenments!

YEAH! The Second Amendment is just a god damn piece of paper anyways!!!

Only in America 2008 is the Constitution and Bill of Rights not a relevant and important issue to base your vote on. What a disgrace. No wonder the politicians ignore the Constitution and Bill of Rights, voters don't care.

My oldest brother did those for probably almost 40 years. Getting to three packs a day (non filtered). Until his heart attack and subsequent angioplasty. Then he quit cold turkey!

Those people are not true conservatives, no matter how much they claim to be conservatives. Conservatives want government off of people's backs rather than using the government as an instrument of social/religious engineering.

Two old ladies were outside their nursing home, having a smoke when it started to rain. One of the ladies pulled out a condom, cut off the end, put it over her cigarette and continued smoking.

Lady 1: What's that?
Lady 2: A condom. This way my cigarette doesn't get wet.
Lady 1: Where did you get it?
Lady 2: You can get them at any drugstore.

The next day ... Lady 1 hobbles herself into the local drugstore and announces to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms. The guy looks at her kind of strangely (she is, after all, over 80 years of age), but politely asks what brand she prefers.

Lady 1: It doesn't matter as long as it fits a Camel.

Amen. Where's Jack Danforth when you need him?

Lee, that is funny!

Anybody surprised that the NRA supports a Republican, regardless of his position on guns?

Bob Barr's campaign is simply proving "conservatives" as anything other than Republicans are as real as bigfoot.

We tend to forget that to sign the Declaration of Independence was to commit an act of treason -- and the punishment for treason was death.

Fifty-six men from each of the original 13 colonies signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Nine of the signers were immigrants, two were brothers and two were cousins. One was an orphan. The average age of a signer was 45. Benjamin Franklin was the oldest delegate at 70. The youngest was Thomas Lynch Jr. of South Carolina at 27.

Eighteen of the signers were merchants or businessmen, 14 were farmers, and four were doctors. Twenty-two were lawyers although William Hooper of North Carolina was "disbarred" when he spoke out against the king and nine were judges. Stephen Hopkins had been governor of Rhode Island. Forty-two signers had served in their colonial legislatures.

Regular people signed the Declaration. They were young and old. They all committed treason. They are heroes, not because of what they did, but because they won.

The people you call your friends and associates only harm you if they lose/get caught, and even then - you may still be unscathed.

Did I miss all the threads here talking about Joe Biden's moronic statements? Like when he said that FDR presided over the great depression and that he "went on TV" to talk about it even though TV wasn't invented? And that in attempting to sound blue collar he invited someone to a restaurant in DE that had been closed for 25 years?

If Palin did this type of shit, the criticism and "she's so stupid" comments would never end. Why the silence on Biden?

"Did I miss all the threads here talking about Joe Biden's moronic statements?"

You're not the only one that missed those threads, assuming they were posted, of course.

Stand up, stand up, stand up I say!

Joe-Biden's misspeaking is similar to John Mccadaver's threat to veto any beer or greeting his fellow prisoners.

Palin's asinine comments about Russia are scary.

PS You can't really see Russia from Alaska, except from some turdball island at the end of the Aleutians.
Some eagle-eyed guardian of freedumb she is...

And Joe, the press has admitted to not covering all saint sarah's goofups.

Ben Bernanke, in a speech to the Federal Reserve Board on Milton Friedman's 90th birthday, Nov 2002:

"Let me end my talk by abusing slightly my status as an official representative of the Federal Reserve System. I would like to say to Milton and Anna: Regarding the Great Depression. You're right, we did it. We're very sorry. But thanks to you, we won't do it again." en.wikipedia.org

Why the silence on Biden?

~Joe.

The Rtards are trying to make Biden out ot be gaffe amching using the examples you cite and others. But, in point of fact, if you go beyond the "if it aint a gaffe it aint news" philosophy that the corporate MSM have adopted in order to try and tighten the race you'll find that Joe Biden is a compelling and wonderful public speaker who's authenticity and gravitas resounds from the stump.

As opposed to Scary FAILin who'd need to put on a few pounds in order to even be considered a lightweight and who's hate fuelled rallies resemble the ones at Nuremberg.

It's not that McCain and Palin are stupid per se.

They are just so WRONG it's scary.

A lot of people get this.

Enuff to WIN this election certainly.

Now I know what to get Nully for Winter Solstice Holiday.

RCade's site moderation has gotten plain wierd.

I am confused as to why certain comments ended up deleted or dumped.

PS to Nullifidian: I am not whining, just observing.

"RCade's site moderation has gotten plain wierd.

I am confused as to why certain comments ended up deleted or dumped."

You don't think that political ideology has anything to do with it do you?! Nah! I'd be shocked if that was the case.

"The Rtards are trying to make Biden out ot be gaffe amching using the examples you cite and others"

This has nothing to do with that. I am simply saying that there is a double standard at work, and that if Palin said the exact same things Biden did (i.e. screwing up who was president when, referencing TV when it didn't exist), the comments about it being proof she's "stupid" would never end, and you know it.

Why does that stupid bastard in the WH think that all he needs to do is go on TV and say "My fellow American, our economy is strong(?) and we will come out of this"?

Hey asshole, If the economy is so strong, why is there a "this" to come out of?

Is worrying about gaffes and whether or not the media reports them going to fix this economy? Is inciting near riots going to help fix this economy and restore our standing in the world? Didn't think so.

What a scary quote that is Phoenix. -- #30 | Posted by member2586

Sry. I thought it was funny, in a gallows humor sort of way.

Member,

I don't think political ideology has anything to do with it.

RCade only deletes or dumps what gets flagged as abusive/offensive.

More conservatives get flagged because this site has more liberals than conservatives and liberals tend to flag more anyways, because they are pansies. Rcade has admitted as much.

Having said all of that, Rcade has been pretty even-handed over the years and he doesn't delete/dump due to political opinion.

Well, there was also a double standard concerning Obama. Imagine if McCain had said he was in Kansas City and then five minutes later he said that he was in St. Louis, Liberals would be making comments about his age and stuff.

"Is worrying about gaffes and whether or not the media reports them going to fix this economy?"

You'll notice I wasn't referring to the media, but people in general. Interesting you'd automatically defend the media, but now that you mention it they have been underreporting this issue.

If reporting on gaffes doesn't fix the economy, then I suppose I can expect the media and all of you to ignore Palin's next gaffe too. let's see how that goes.

I'm going to start flagging every comment that has the name of a Politician(sorry) in it as "Abusive" and repulsive. We need some more flag designations

How about...

Fucking brain dead stupidity?

FUBAR

Joe,

If you feel that Biden's big mouth is under represented on the Retort feel free to start a thread of your own. Don't just bitch and whine about the lack of threads, take some repsonsibility man.

RCade's site moderation has gotten plain weird.

~JJeff.

Spud just went to the recently deleted comments thread to check it out and must admit some puzzlement as to why Soheifox has been put under the banhammer.

A triple post of a quote from "Silence of the Lambs"?

All w/i a twenty minute period?

Spud gets the BBob/ BBill thing but still finds the ban a bit excessive.

Be Well.

/Don't always agree with Foxy but do find the poster to be one who adds value to the site when not in flambe mode.

Joe I am not defending the media, I am talking about the fact that gaffes don't mean shit in this campaign. And I haven't seen the media harp on Palin gaffes, I have seen them give her a hard time because she is clearly underinformed, just like many of the McCain-Palin supporters.

This has nothing to do with that. I am simply saying that there is a double standard at work, and that if Palin said the exact same things Biden did (i.e. screwing up who was president when, referencing TV when it didn't exist), the comments about it being proof she's "stupid" would never end, and you know it.

The fucktards at FOX are relying on nothing but gaffes and character assasination. The Biden gaffes including the now infamous "Stand up, Chuck" are in heavy rotation there. CNN and even MSNBC are covering them too in lieu of real news.

Spud never sed Scary FAILin was stupid.

She's ignorant (see her beliefs on creationism and global warming).

She's regressive (See her hilariously inaptly named Feminists For Life pals)

She's an amoral douchenozzle (See her race-baiting, hate fuelled rallies)

But she aint stupid.

It's not a question of who's making mistakes.

Both sides do, we're all human (except fer Spud of course).

The real question is who has shown an ability to learn from mistalkes and correct themselves.

The left have shown this a true strength adn hte right have an unfortunate tendency to not only not learn from mistakes and correct them but they as a rulke won't even admit them.

That's a problem.

A real one, as opposed to these non-news gaffes.

And Yes, Joe is a bit of a gaffe machine.

Cheerfully admitted.

The fact that he does not rigidly adhere to talking points like Scary FAILin and attempts to honestly answers questions thrown at him is actually a point in his favor in Spud's book.

Spud is glad to clear this up fer yas.

No needs to thank Spud.

I've started enough Biden threads. Lefties either don't show up or come to talk about Palin and McCain. It's not worth it. My point is that the double standard is there, nothing more.

Well, it is a lefty-leaning site after all.

News to you? ^_^

If yer latest Biden/Obama gaffe like "stand up, Chuck or "57 states" thread isn't getting the traction you think it ought to, Joe, then maybe you ought to consider the fact that most folk hereabouts are media savvy enuff to ignore the obvious chaff in order to get to the wheat.

And yes we are quick to jump on McCain fer saying crazy shit like "Bomb bomb bomb Iran" or mistaking Sunni fer Shia or Mistaking Iraq for Afghanistan or Mistaking Sudan for Somalia because folks need to know whether these were honest mistakes or whether he's actually that misinformed or whether he's having a senior moment.

And yes, McCain's age is an appropriate topic of discussion as opposed to Obama's race.

Also, the fact that all media reports on gaffes from the right but FOX only reports on gaffes on the left does show a double standard ...just not the one you allege.

Be Well.

Lefties are experts on all things conservative while ignorant on all things liberal. Case in point. They do not know shit about Obama. When something shows up they don't want to hear about "the one" they put their fingers in their ears and say " la la la la la". Feelings before facts.

I did laugh when Biden was introduced as "Vice President John McCain" though.

CNN: Sarah Palin Has Never Seen Russia From Alaska

Just when you thought the whole "I can see Russia from Alaska" thing couldn't get any funnier...CNN's Gary Tuchman delivers the goods: it turns out that Sarah Palin has never seen Russia from Alaska.

Tuchman went up to the part of Alaska from which you can actually see Russia, a remote island called Little Diomede located just 2.4 miles from its Russian twin, Big Diomede.

It turns out Gary Tuchman's trip to Little Diomede sets him apart from Sarah Palin -- because she's never actually been there, nor has she set eyes on its neighbor in Russia.

Minimum distance from Alaska to Russia: 210 miles.

Distance to horizon (miles) = sqrt [ 7 h (feet) / 4 ].

For a 6-foot person: sqrt(7*6/4) ~3.25 miles

A little over 200 miles short there, Copernicus.

Chairpoodle, That's the most desperate straw grabbing ever I've ever seen.

She stated that not only can she se Rusia from Anhorage but that Putin enters America through AK airspace.

Yes, everyone knows hat on some tiny little windswept basically uninhabited island that is American soil, maybe, on a good day, you could see another mostly uninhabited, windswept island that is on Russian soil.

But that is NOT what Palin said or even alluded to.
And even if you were to grant her the island sightings are possible (she hasn't been there)does this really give her foreign policy experience?

Is that your position?

Alaska and Russia are less than 3 miles apart at their closest point in the Bering Strait where two islands, Russia's Big Diomede Island and Alaska's Little Diomede Island, are located.
At its closest, the American mainland and the Russian mainland are 55 miles apart where Alaska's Seward Peninsula and Russia's Chukotka Peninsula reach out to each other.

In the middle of the Bering Strait are two small, sparsely populated islands: Big Diomede, which sits in Russian territory, and Little Diomede, which is part of the United States. At their closest, these two islands are a little less than two and a half miles apart, which means that, on a clear day, you can definitely see one from the other.

You can also see Russia from other points in Alaska. According to a New York Times article written in the waning years of the Cold War (when the Alaska-Siberia border was known as the "Ice Curtain"), if you stand on high ground on the tip of St. Lawrence Islanda larger Alaskan island in the Bering Sea, southwest of the Diomedesyou can see the Russian mainland, about 37 miles away.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!

Teacher! Teacher! He didn't do his homework!

ok so rezko has turned into a situation that will bring down the demos in chicago and the state capital. i think that makes him bigger than abramoff.

ayers is no big deal, i hear people say. ok well what if mccain opened his last senate campaign in eric rudolf's house(preteding he got off on a techincal thingy too)

acorn, 11 seperate federal investigations, lawsuits to help fannie an freddie against banks

praise from hugo chavez not exactly a friend of los estados unidos

now apply these facts to mccain, what would the media coverage look like then?

almost nothing about this on the msm, but any little thing about palin is on there.

people are listening reading and researching these issues on obama, and it will have an affect.

A retired Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice says that she is "not confident we can get a fair election" in the state come November.

Justice Sandra Newman, accompanied by Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico and Pennsylvania Republican State Chairman Robert Gleason, expressed her concerns at a Harrisburg press conference this morning. A thick document replete with photo copies of phony registrations and aerial shots of vacant lots used as "addresses" for "voters" was handed out to journalists.

Gleason was even more explicit.

"Between March 23rd and October 1st, various groups, including ACORN, submitted over 252,595 registrations to the Philadelphia County Election Board" with 57, 435 rejected for faulty information. "Most of these registrations were submitted by ACORN, and rejected due to fake social security numbers, incorrect dates of birth, clearly fraudulent signatures, addresses that do not exist, and duplicate registrations. In one case, a man was registered to vote more than 15 times since the Primary election.

I didn't realize that one person quoting the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland meant that the GOP was committing a crime against humanity. And one idiot holding a sign that connected our messiah with a terrorist? Yes, there are some GOP nincompoops out there. Does anyone wonder what kind of ignoramuses are on the fringes of Obama rallies?

And would someone please arrest that "someone" in the crowd who dared depict Obama in a devil mask? A capital crime, it is.

Funny that when the President of the United States is burned in effigy. Or when his advisors are depicted as evil in any number of ways. Or conservatives in general are mocked, demonized, routinely referred to as fascists or authoritarian lovers, or mindless robots - or it is even suggested that Bush, Cheney, and conservatives be rounded up and shot - none of this seems to make quite the same impression on our Guardians of Civility in Politics in the press.

This is absolutely shameless. ALL Americans are mad at the moment. But to characterize crowds that attend McCain/Palin rallies as "mobs" by taking something that one or two fools shout out totally out of context is a deliberate attempt to scare undecided and swing voters into rejecting the GOP candidate. It is a despicable tactic and they should be called out on it.

Where have these people been for the last 8 years? Any kind of hatefilled rant against conservatives or the president appears to be perfectly acceptable to the press. All one need do is listen to Nancy Pelosi's floor speech immediately prior to the first bailout vote. She was accusing the president and Republicans of deliberately starting the economic crisis to satisfy their greed. I don't recall the press getting upset about that little performance.

Nor do I recall reading what one person might have shouted out at a Kerry or Obama rally about Bush or McCain. All sorts of shouts go up at political rallies. And yet all of a sudden - just in time to counter McCain's attack on Obama for his Ayers association - we get this grossly exaggerated, unfair, wildly selective attack on McCain hiding behind crocodile tears being shed because some people are mean to The One.

What a crock.

What is it about Democratic presidential candidates and terrorists? Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were each famously supportive of ur-terrorist Yassar Arafat. Carter, whose administration never had a discouraging word for Arafat, to this day is carrying water for Hamas, and the most frequent foreign visitor to the Clinton Whitehouse was Arafat.

Hillary showed her undying adoration with her famous embrace of Suha Arafat, currently living in Paris off the stolen billions of Palestinian aid money her turbaned hubby weaseled away from US taxpayers and gullible trans-national organizations. And what about those pardons for FALN terrorists? What was that about? (Here is a complete list of Clinton's pardons-drug dealers, bank robbers, terrorists, counterfeiters, money launderers, bank fraud specialists...all upstanding citizens no doubt, caught up somehow in over-zealous prosecutions.) Al Gore, while never publicly endorsed Ted "The Unabomber" Kaczynski, the almost identical texts of the Unabomber's "Manifesto" and Gore's book "Earth in the Balance" are startling. (Go here to take the fun challenge of detecting which quote is from which document).

And while the no one on the left had anything to say about the domestic eco-terrorists the FBI recently crushed, Bill Clinton openly bragged after the 1996 elections that the Oklahoma City Bombing and the liberal media chorus cinched his re-election:

Clinton openly boasted to reporters after his 1996 re-election that the liberal media scenario for the Oklahoma City bombing (that it was all the work of angry white "right-wingers" goaded by talk radio) turned the tide for him. In fact, I remember liberal media people I talked to at the time who were rubbing their hands with glee at that perceived political angle in all this.

And now of course, thanks to Stanley Kurtz, we find revealed the intimate connection -- whatever denials the Obama campaign attempts -- of Barack Obama and William Ayers, founder of the late 1960's Weather Underground group, responsible for hundreds of bombings, multiple attempted murders, and two accomplished murders to their "credit". All defiantly owned and unapologized for, by the way. Recall that several of Obama's campaign offices proudly displayed that way cool poster of Che Guevara, Casto's trigger man.

So, what's the deal with Democratic Presidents and hopefuls connecting so soulfully with terrorists? It appears the Saul Alinsky hard left has had a gun to the ribs of the more moderate wing of the party for some time, and over time, especially with the advent of the nutroots blogosphere and the ascendancy of the Nancy and Harry Show on Capital Hill, radicals fueled with Soros money have become more and more influential as they have been mainstreamed by the boys and girls of the press.

As Bob Dylan wrote, you don't need a weatherman to tell you which way the wind is blowing (from the song that inspired the name that romantic band of crazy kids took for themselves). And as John Locke before him put it, in language picked up by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration, when a long Train of Actings show the Councils all tending one way, how can a man any more hinder himself from being persuaded in his own mind which way things are going...?

"I was seeing the day JUNE 6 2006! I believe that this day will be full of suiside, mass murder, mass suiside, tensions, and numerouse natural disaters! On the morning of June 6, 2006, The anti-christ will make his entrance into our world!"
