Despite a pledge by President George W. Bush to the contrary, hundreds of US citizens overseas have been eavesdropped on as they called friends and family back home, according to two former military intercept operators who worked at the giant National Security Agency (NSA) center in Fort Gordon, Georgia.

In testimony before Congress, then-NSA director Gen. Michael Hayden, now director of the CIA, said private conversations of Americans are not intercepted.

"It's not for the heck of it. We are narrowly focused and drilled on protecting the nation against al Qaeda and those organizations who are affiliated with it," Gen. Hayden testified.

Nothing but liars.

Well no shit, anytime we let the government intrude no matter the circumstance it will always, always be used other ways too.

Notice how it was a "Colonel," it will provide leverage sometime later.

Welcome the the republican fear, the republicans don't know what principles stand for.

principles = blind faith, no abortions ever for any reason, hate people that's different than me, protect the rich people and pay for it with the stupid people. oh, and, obama is a terrorist

---neo-cons----

Violation of their oath of office. They need Impeached post haste. Unfortunately that Pathetic Employee Lousy On Serious Issues took Impeachment off of the table. What a useless Politician.

Larry

You hit that nail square on the head...

Despite pledges by President George W. Bush and American intelligence officials to the contrary,

Seriously, is there one person left in the world that would believe anything Bush "pledges"?

"Hey, check this out," former Navy Arab linguist David Murfee Faulk says he would be told, "there's good phone sex or there's some pillow talk, pull up this call, it's really funny, go check it out. It would be some colonel making pillow talk and we would say, 'Wow, this was crazy'."

Yeah, let's listen into pillow talk instead of listening in to real terrorist coversations.

Four more years!

Four more years!

You can not tell me that you people didn't know in your harts that this shit was going on! This is why you must NEVER elect another Republican into office! Throw every single one of their reagan wannabe ass' out of office! Sure the Democrats are just as bad, but the right-wing fascist always play the fear game! Look at the stock market right now.... look at bush's poll numbers.... look at the war on terror.... look at your 401k.... look at your homes value.... and you will see it's all tied to the right wing fascist! I'm sure I will get personal attacks for this post because thats what they do when they are confronted with the truth. So go ahead and cover up your bush 04 stickers with "My child is an Honor Roll Student At bla bla Middle School"!

P.S I don't spell check or grammer check cuzz I don't give a shit!

Yeah, because everyone knows that the administration is taking Navy Arab linguist David Murfee Faulk and his buddy with them when they leave office...

Celery's retarded half brother is here.

"Celery's retarded half brother is here."

And all this time I thought Celery was the retarded half brother.

Amazing how calm the Fighty Rightys here are about all this. I guess, unless you're a Republican Governor, if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to worry about.

Now, if some First Lady were to check into staff travel records...

HEY HEY HEY! Staff travel records is serious stuff! Private phone calls, not so much.

No way this happened. I heard the President repeatedly say it didn't happen. Are you telling me he doesn't know what he is talking about?

Or they didn't tell him?

LET'S CRUCIFY THEM......

Oh wait, they listened into that fella' that wrote the anti-Obama book too. Ohhhhhhh, that's alright then. Applaud them.

THE DR LEFT

This is nothing compared to the how gov will intrude into our lives when Obama and the Dems come to power.

They will tell us how hot or cold we can keep our houses. (California, whats to control thermostats)...What food we can eat or not eat. (Trans fats, etc.) How much we must weigh (if the gov is providing medical coverage, you have to be a certain way or you are costing us more)... What kinds of cars we can drive (got to save the ice) etc.

They will do it all in the name of saving us or saving for future generations, but for whatever reason they will do it.

Always amusing to see all the faux outrage, because this is being done on Bush's watch.

It's software looking for key words. Humans don't even get into the loop until the fourth cut -- after software has weeded out all the routine crap.

Routine crap? I'm an American who lives in Asia, with several dozen clients across the US. I'm in daily contact with them with all sorts of juicy details, like resumes, test scores, qualifications and personal evaluations.

Oh yeah, there are e-mails to my family and friends: I don't like the underwear they sell in Taiwan so I asked my son to throw a package of Fruit of the Loom into the next CARE package. (I'll stock up on my next trip to the Philippines). Along with chili powder (Chinese don't understand Mexican food).

Since the software is looking for words related to crime, murder and terrorism, I'm sure that my stuff gets removed in the first round.

The amusing part is that if this were happening under Clinton you clowns would all be defending it as prudent.

What a bunch of hypocrites.

Sawdust-well when we're all forced to convert to muslims by Obama they won't be telling us to eat pork between our daily abortions and Bible burnings. Many of us will, however, have to cram into highrises with big targets painted on them so al queda will have big kill numbers.

"The amusing part is that if this were happening under Clinton you clowns would all be defending it as prudent.

Coulda shoulda woulda. Got any other useless comments to add?

Not a useless comment JPW. But, why don't you go ahead and research the precedents that the Clinton Administration DID DO to evesdrop and intrude into our lives. Hehehe....bet ya' that you won't like what you find.

"Hehehe....bet ya' that you won't like what you find."

Hehehe....posting a wild accusation like that without any link.....and you expect anyone to believe it???
Prove it.

Oops..

cryptome.org

Clinton DID evesdrop on US Citizens.

Oh, come on Danni. It wasn't an accusation, it was an invite to research what was put in place under the Clinton Administration. If you are interested, you research it. JPW is invited to research as well. But, YOU really will NOT like what you find.

See Danni, I don't fall for the rhetoric that it is only one party causing all of this. We have been on a slippery slope for awhile. If you care enough to know....you'll research it. I won't be the one that will provide links in attempts to convince you anyway.

My candidate would have worked to stop this nonsense. Your candidate Kucunich may have worked for the same thing as well. (Kindred spirits? LOL).

Obama voted FOR the FISA ammendment act giving Bush this power. That's real change eh? Going right along with Bush...with FISA and now this communist bailout...next the government will start buying banks.

Welcome to Communist America people. The founding fathers of the USA are turning in their graves.

I spit on the US government.

inform on your neighbor. whether you like it or not...

Vernon, I don't think this is a partisan issue. Dems (like Obama's vote on FISA) or Repubs, it doesn't matter. There is just no grounds for the govt to be tapping phone calls. It's Big Brother stuff and it is scary. Surveillance should be used when the govt should have probable cause, just like it says in the Constitution. Ignoring stuff like this because "I'm not a criminal anyway" leaves us with the 4th Amendment. The only people the 4th Amendment protects are criminals because the only remedy it provides is to suppress evidence of a crime. We need to be more proactice about protecting people from govt intrusiveness. The govt has shown throughout history that it cannot be trusted with unchecked powers. We need to make sure that we don't cede such power.

Welcome the the republican fear...Posted by moneywar

For the republicans the whole of existence is only:

Black and White.

No, let me rephrase that. As is apparent by the McCain/Palin ticket, the world is...

White and White

Black is terrorism and should be shocked and awed.

The more subtle shades of grey are currently flagged for terrorist sympathies.
