The US military was using the same procedures employed at the controversial Guantanamo Bay prison at facilities inside the United States where citizens and legal residents were detained, according to documents released Wednesday. "There was an effort to create a Gitmo inside the United States," said Jonathan Hafetz of the ACLU.

Why does the ACLU hate America?

That is some fucked up shit. Tey aught to charge and convict Dubya Cheney Rice the whole fuckng shebang. This is a total disgrace to the fabric of America and what She stands for.

Larry

I used to be proud that I was a veteran and used to tell people how positive my experience was while I served. After the last few years I don't really talk about my service anymore.

I am not ashamed, just sad...

playing Jessica Simpson records over and over again?

Sensationalist bullshit.
I wish it were true though.

No-listening to the deciderer's speeches over and over-and being forced to decipher what they meant....

Of course, those administering the torture have to figure out what he meant....

So its only wrong because its on *this* particular piece of earth and not *that* piece of earth across the invisible line??

No, thats absurd. Its wrong everywhere, and it needs to stop.

Still waiting for the punch line.

There was an effort to create a Gitmo inside the United States. Instead they just named it Iowa...

And yet the cowards in the Dem party have taken impeachement off the table. They are as big of a disgrace as W.

Instead they just named it Iowa...

I take offense to that. =)

I wish it were true though.

I bet you do! That is because you have no respect for the Constitution of the US or the rights of your fellow Humans.

But Hey Chairpuddles - did you hear that Amy Goodman was NOT charged with any crime! And ALL the charges were dropped against ALL the Journalists that were WRONGLY arrested by the Jack Booted Thugs in St Paul Minn?

St. Paul City Attorney John Choi, in a release issued last Friday, asserted that the arrests of the journalists were not improper. But the decision to not press ahead with prosecutions "reflects the values we have in St. Paul to protect and promote our 1st Amendment rights to freedom of the press," he said.

In other words they had no case and they may have even violated the 1st Amendment.

Doesn't THAT just piss you off too?

I wish it were true though.

I'm throwing the bullshit flag on that, my friend. You are only saying that to incite remarks.

See how froggy you feel when you're the one strapped to a table with electodes on your nuts. I know you used to have to pay good money for that service but this is not the 'happy ending' service you are used to.

In other words they had no case and they may have even violated the 1st Amendment.

Doesn't THAT just piss you off too?

No dummy, they did what they always do in those instances. They arrest the shitheaps that broke minor laws to get them the fuck out of the way, and then they drop the charges and release them.

What you were claiming is that they were directed by Bush to arrest journalists or some other laughable stupidity which nobody in their right mind believed.

So when you can prove that happened I'll listen, but right now you're just figuring out what we all knew about 2 seconds after the arrest. Good job...

Hey Chairbound - you and I agree! By himself Shrub isn't capable of directing kindergarteners across a street.

Actually that is not as easy as you might think

Well if you believe defending the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th amendments to the Constitution as "hating America" then.. I guess you would be right.

Here we go.. dumbed down law for retarded neo-cons:

What is Habeas Corpus?
Means the government can not hold you without proving in court it has a reason to hold you. This does not exist in America anymore since Bush.

What is the Posse Comitatus Act?
Prevents the federal military from acting as police officers. This does not exist in America since Bush.

What is Due Process?
Notice and opportunity. This is the right you have to know the charges against you and to have an ability to defend yourself from them. This does not exist in America since Bush.

Do rights exist only for Americans?
No, our concept of rights is based on the Lockean Theory of Rights. That is that rights exist because there is no higher claim of authority on your life than you. Government's can not provide rights to anyone and in America they don't.. The Bill of Rights does not provide rights to the people.. instead it limits government from infringing on the rights people already had. Americans believe ALL people EVERYWHERE have the same rights we do, and we get upset when other governments infringe upon their peoples rights (ahem China, Russia, etc..)

We are ripe for fascism to take hold here in America, we are on the very verge.. we have two candidates saying similar things, both wanting to expand the power of the state, both disregarding the Constitution as an old meaningless piece of paper.. I fear, you people may never see it. Other nations have turned to fascism before. In emergency they allow their usually popular leaders to break the law and assume power they should not.. This is how democracy's die.

there you go again Puddles! You can twist the truth as well as any Rethug! Adn I don't care whether you "listen".

I am just enjoying rubbing it in your face!

What you were claiming is that they were directed by Bush to arrest journalists or some other laughable stupidity which nobody in their right mind believed.

I never said Bush directed it. We all know he is not capable...I did say the SS was involved. You tried to say that is what I said then and are obviously still trying...

Here is what I did say:

There is no government "conspiracy". Just Governmental Incompetency. And Bush did not "give the order" but he does set the tone.

So let me remind you once again so you can be happy...

This arrest was illegal.

The St Paul police violated the Amy's first amendment rights and they dropped the charges because they could not prove she broke any law.

It was a false arrest. She broke NO minor or major law.

and if as you say "They arrest the shitheaps that broke minor laws to get them the fuck out of the way, and then they drop the charges and release them."

then they also conspired violated her 1st amendment rights.

I hope she sues the shit out of them.

And I think we all know who the "shitheap" is here.

JD, get out side and take a breath of fresh air. It is beautiful outside where I am. You need to let go and quit crying doom and gloom.

good grief

Yes donnerboy, we do. It is still you. You made about 50 posts on that thread claiming all sorts of stupidity. But let's just stick with what you have now repeated...

Npbpdy falsely arrested her. People get arrested all of the time in protests and are later released. It's not a conspiracy as you claim. It's a cost and time saving practice.

I have a hard time believing that you're not comprehending this.

I doubt Sully will waste his time re-hashing this one, but he knows the score as well.

You should do yourself a favor and quit waving your "dummy flag" so vigorously. We all know.

You can breathe fresh air in China too you know.. you can read a daily news paper in North Korea. There is "pop culture" in Iran... but there is not freedom.

Life goes on under tyranny.. Hell Dictators even hold elections, corrupt ones that they use to legitimize their own power.

Freedom means being able to tell your government NO! I WILL NOT COMPLY! ..and if the bailout bill is any indication.. we can not say no to them anymore.

"was being slowly driven insane by the policies, which prohibited detainees from having items such as shoes or socks"

That would drive me insane too :-)

You know, I can't help but think back to all the arguments and flame wars I had with torture-fetishist right-wingers who claimed this was 'only for foreigners', and how they sneered when I told them it was baby-steps to being done to U.S. citizens, like their own families.

And here we are talking about how it's being done in the U.S. to U.S. citizens.

Congratulations BUSH-tards! You DESTROYED AMERICA!

Liberals didn't help though. Things like "health care is a right" is just as wrong as "rights are only for Americans". It's the same mentality, the belief that rights come from government, when in fact we already have them and it is us who give government its power.

I don't even understand what you mean.. but.. why would you respond to that and not the post I made to you before it?

btw: if you still are crazy and have money in the market.. its headed for the floor.. it is down 680.

Jay,

you are living in a very negative world and that is your choice. that is why I didn't respond to you. I don't know how to talk to people who are wanting to jump off a building.

I do have money in the market. A lot.

buffaloboob thinks ALL rights come from the govt and he has debated it over and over here.

I used to have only one method for managing my 401(K). It was, diversify.

In March of last year I added a second one. It was, when you have a useless idiot in the White House and he turns his attention and inattention to influencing the market by acts of commission and omission, get your money the fuck out of the market till he goes away. So I did. I'm very glad to say.

Congratulations BUSH-tards! You DESTROYED AMERICA!

By not letting the prisoners have shoes and socks? Next time read the article before you spout off your mock outrage on torture in the US; then you'll realize that NO proof of torture was found by the ACLU.

The fact that the prisoners were denied some rights is bad, but no evidence of torture was found.

People get arrested all of the time in protests and are later released.

yeah and in yer feeble mind that makes it all ok...just like in the topic of this thread... the "authorities" have a way of overstepping that authority due to ignorance of the very law they are sworn to uphold.

I fear, you people may never see it. Other nations have turned to fascism before. In emergency they allow their usually popular leaders to break the law and assume power they should not.. This is how democracy's die."

"At about the time our original 13 states adopted their new Constitution
in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University
of Edinburgh, had this to say about The Fall of the Athenian Republic
some 2,000 years prior:

"A Democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist
as a permanent form of government. A Democracy will continue to
exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote
themselves generous gifts from the public treasury."

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates
who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the
result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal
policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning
of history has been about 200 years."

Does the above quote sound prophetic? I tend to agree with Alexander Tyler's remarks about Democracies.

Would you rather they go through with the arrest, because that's the other option stupid.
Those people did break laws (because they'd be suing and winning if they didn't). The local governments don't want to pick up the tab for prosecuting and that's why they drop charges after the fact.

Here's a way for somebody as stupid as you to look at it...How many times does some famous douche go out and protest only to be arrested (think Cindy Shithan)? How many times has she actually been prosecuted? Why do you thik she hasn't sued to get even more publicity?...It's because the arrests are legit and at the end of the day the police accomplished what they wanted which is to get those retards off the street and out of their way and the stupid protester got what they wanted which was attention.

Man, you are really fucking dumb.

Those people did break laws (because they'd be suing and winning if they didn't).

I missed that in the Constitution.

Did you see "Zap is a fucking retard" in the constitution?
What the fuck does that have anything to do with what I typed?

Why would common sense need to be in the Constitution?

Have you never heard of somebody suing for false arrest?

Did you have a point?

Did you have a point?

If you can't see it I can't help..

Do you suffer from tourettes?

There isn't a point to see. The constitution has nothing to do with the sentence you quoted.

The constitution has nothing to do with the sentence you quoted.

I think you may be on to something.

I was on to your bullshit.

Make a point or STFU.

I was on to your bullshit.

Really how clever..

It's apparent you don't have a point. Are you killing time until the bus comes to pick you up for school?

It's apparent you don't have a point.

Not such hyperbole today, is it? Will President O'Bama bring back constitutional rule by law? herm
