Rogers Cadenhead: On a night when he had to change the dynamics of a presidential race he's losing, John McCain wandered all over the place during Tuesday's presidential debate, both figuratively and literally. As the faltering economy dominates the election, McCain continues to struggle to put together a steady message that provides comfort to concered lower- and middle-class voters.

wont work for anyone who heard it at all.......

Saw-ee, McThusaleh, Obama wiped the floor with you, in spite of your best efforts to kneecap him.

You are old. You are tired. You keep saying you "know how to fix" this and that, when you've been in Washington since God was a little boy and haven't done diddly-squat. You look peevish. You look decrepit. You look like Tim Conway playing his little-old-man character, except Tim's more limber.

Seriously, I have not seen such a difference in onscreen presence since the 1960 debates, where Nixon kept scowling and thrusting his gangster-stubbled chin into the camera, and Kennedy came across like someone who actually ought to be in charge.

I think we've got to give McCain a few bonus points for not dying during the debate. All those hot lights could have easily turned him into a pile of dust.

McLame didn't do himself any favors when he told the audience member asking the question about the bailout that he probably never heard of FannyMae of Freddymac before. That kind of condescension towards a young person is typical of an old fart Rtard but when the old fool says that to a young black man while debating another young black man, it really just shows his disconnect with ANYTHING happening on this planet.

The stagehands have just about given up trying to get those little puddles of melted mortician's wax his makeup artiste uses to prepare him for public viewing out of the carpet.

"My Friend" got his ass handed to him.

It was almost sad.

1.)The Democrat is a '60s-style liberal who would raise taxes and take away guns.

2.)He is weak and could not protect the country militarily.

3.)He is a member of the elite "Harvard Yard's boutique."

4.)He has a foreign-sounding name and was not on "the American side." He is on the side of the Scary Black Man.

Sound familiar?

It's BushI's tactics against Dukakis. It's all McCain has. It's too late for him to run on issues and policy.

"That one" totally got owned. A pity no one sees it.

one side of John's mouth: barack obama has nearly a trillion dollars in new spending.

other side of John's mouth: I will buy everyone's house and sell it back to you cheap.

It really does not matter. With the economy crashing, there is no way for the party in office to survive. McCain is toast.

The same would be true if the shoe was on the other foot. If the current pres were a Dem, Obama would be toast.

I think it is somewhat pathetic that neither of these guys could lay out a coherent plan to get us out of this mess.

"'That one' totally got owned. A pity no one sees it."

Um-

Getting totally owned, by definition, is so obvious that everyone sees it.

First day with the new logic module? Or just desperate to put a positive spin on something indefensible?

McLame didn't do himself any favors when he told the audience member asking the question about the bailout that he probably never heard of FannyMae of Freddymac before.

I also noticed that. What an asshole comment. Shows you what kind of old-school government he wants to build. "Okay, kids. You just go off and play and let the adults take care of everything."

I think it is somewhat pathetic that neither of these guys could lay out a coherent plan to get us out of this mess.

They are both Senators, neither has any experience in trying to make payroll or trying to create jobs.

Neither of them know how to do it, Saw. I have more faith in Obama because he may put together the best team. If not, he's gone after 4 years.

I think we've got to give McCain a few bonus points for not dying during the debate. All those hot lights could have easily turned him into a pile of dust.

Thanks, I now have to clean coffee off my monitor.

Huge FF!

Please, Chick-fil-A,

Point by point, please. Because I am curious if you watched the same debate I did.

Obama looked and sounded presidential. McCain looked and sounded like my crazy old uncle that keeps trying to tell me about that time he owned a Buick.

It's too late for him to run on issues and policy.

#9 | Posted by LeeAtwater

No, it is just that his issues and policies are out of touch with America. He has been part of the failure of the Republican Congress for 2001-2007. He is advocating the same failed economic policies that have led us to where we are now.

All he has left is hate.

crazy old uncle that keeps trying to tell me about that time he owned a Buick

That and he wants you to dig around in his pocket for piece of candy.

Don't forget an extra $300 billion per year in tax cuts for millionaires.

Almost as good as Palyin's...

"We need more regulation, government get out of the way."

When they are rehearsing these talking points how come no one ever slaps them for contradicting the previous sentence?

"McCain looked and sounded like my crazy old uncle that keeps trying to tell me about that time he owned a Buick."

FF!

"and he wants you to dig around in his pocket for piece of candy"

That is just wrong!!! However, now that you mention it, McAncient does have the look of a sexual predator about him. But I think he probably goes for the mature slutty blond beach bitch more than the little boy next door that most other Republican politicians prefer.

This morning I scanned through a video of a focus group of undecided voters in Nevada watching the debate with those dial meters. Every time McCain went off on an attack it flatlined. They seemed a lot more responsive to Obama's factual answers. According to the meters Obama won hands down.

The video's near the bottom of this page (2 commercials before the debate begins). The video's near the bottom of the page after the article that summarizes the overall numbers.

And what's with what I termed the "magic voice" with McCain last night. You know, where he scrunches his shoulders and sorta whispers.."Yes, my friends...there will be unicorns and popsicles for every American..."

As one poster described it, it is the way an adult talks to a young child when tucking them in bed.

Reminds me exactly of Palin's inflection and delivery. Very scary.

I will say that Obama totally flubbed the second-to-last question (can't remember what it was). I had just moved to another room and just caught the ending of that...boy was he rambling on about nothing. Fortunately, his final statement was a homerun.

In Toledo, Ohio the scoring was changed into strikes and spares and open. This is the only way the locals could understand how it went.

And what's with what I termed the "magic voice" with McCain last night ...

That's a good way to put it -- my wife commented on it last night. That scrunchy whisper is very odd.

So now it's just the east coast media that's in the tank for Obama? According to the right's previous talking points I thought it was all of the MSM. I'll agree with you that people trying to play that remark as racist are retarded. However it was a fairly condescending and rude way to refer to your opponent.

As far as the debate McCain got trounced in this debate. Wasn't he the one who is supposed to perform well in "town hall" settings? Or does that only apply to stump speeches in "town hall" settings? Also why does he insist on cracking bad jokes all the time? You're not funny grand-pa, give it up.

On another note this debate was pretty much a rehash of the previous debate just with the candidates walking around instead of standing still. Same questions, same answers, same result.

Brokaw: Quick discussion. Is health care in America a privilege, a right, or a responsibility?

Obama knocked that one right out of the park.

McCain has a few retarted comments:

1. assuming the guy never heard of FMae or FMac. An attempt at connecting with the common man, based on assumptions that the common man is ignorant - probably true but condescending nonetheless.
2. The whole bit about Barack telegraphing his punches in going after AQ in Pakistan - considering we already are cross border raiding w/o their permission, this is hardly letting a big sneaky tactic out of the bag. McCain's focused on this and it is going nowhere...
3. Knowing how to get Bin Laden but won't tell anyone
4. fixing social security is easy - oh ok thanks...an attempt to look competent came across as him not understanding the problem.
5. not being able to prioritize health care, energy and entitlements. At least Barack had priorities even if you disagree with the order. It beats a we can do everything because of the American Spirit crap falls flat.

Biggest shit question was the Uber soft ball about supporting Israel if Iran attacks it or wait for UN approval. UUUgh, wanted to barf. Filter please....

Obama - why he doesn't dwell on "being greeted as liberators" as proof of McCain's judgement is beyond me.

and lastly, why isn't anyone pointing out that the surge "works" as long as there's 150,000 troops there, but the second they leave - now and in 10 years, the sunni and shiite are gonna go at it hardcore... this is hardly "working" in my mind.

I've been thinking this morning that McCain reminds me of Nixon, his nastiness.

Who cares. It was boooring.

Who cares. It was boooring.

YEAH!

It was lacking in innuendo, personal attacks and incites to kill the candidate that appeals to Americans who don't see things as you do. In other words it didn't have anything that is of importance to you people

I never said That One was racist, it was however, rude an condescending.

blah blah LIBERAL MEDIA blah blah blah ELITIST blah blah RANDOM CAPITALIZATION> blah blah blah.

Here is a scientific analysis of flainin' palin's performance. It is a bit complicated, but to the point:

Apparently, so do you.

That aside, I missed it. From what I read, it was a real snoozefest, neither knocked the other out, which means Obama won due to the lack of McCain getting his game changing moment.

Obama's kind of like Palin in that regard. All he has to do is not shit himself and hope that McCain doesn't miraculously pull it together. Affirmative action in action.

That aside, I missed it. From what I read, it was a real snoozefest, neither knocked the other out, which means Obama won due to the lack of McCain getting his game changing moment.

Pretty much this. They both said the same things they've said in the past, they both repeated the same lies about each other that they've put out in the past, and they both wanted Tom Brokaw to shut the hell up about the time constraints (and who can blame them?)

McCain needed to knock the ball out of the park. Instead, he hit a dribbler down the first base line that really didn't accomplish anything. He's gonna have to fix that for the final debate.

I have to give them both credit for blowing off the stupid question put to them by Brokaw.

"Yes or No, I Russia an Evil Empire"?

That's hardly a Yes/No questions and I'm glad they answered the way they did.

I think Rich Lowry summed it up for me...

"It wasn't McCain's fault that, after pulling even with Obama, a bunch of toxic collateralized debt obligations fell on his head. "Life isn't fair" was McCain's diagnosis of the politics of the financial mess the other day, and he's right. Obama's leadership during the crisis has consisted of standing out of the way and mouthing platitudes about the failings of the past eight years of Bush economics. His poll numbers are essentially unchanged on his ability to handle the economy. But all Obama has to do in this environment is not be a Republican."

NationalReview

"...and mouthing platitudes about the failings of the past eight years of Bush economics."

Whereas Lowry probably believes it's all Clinton's fault.

I read the article, I do not believe he mentioned Clinton...

The tragedy is that none of this will get a fair hearing in congress. If the Dems are in control, they will shy away from anything pointing to the fact that they had anything to do with the problesm. Just as the Repubs would do if they were in control.

Until these people can begin to see the truth, we are doomed.

"I read the article, I do not believe he mentioned Clinton... "

So who gets the blame, if not the guy on the top?

On a related note, were they called Congressvilles, or Hoovervilles?

As a debater Obama is pitifully slow on his feet. This is not a time when any Republican candidate wants to be reminded that a cause dear to President Bush's heart was Social Security "reform", shorthand for handing over peoples' pensions, now held in government accounts, to Wall Street. Yet when McCain agreed with Brokaw that America's Social Security system needs "reform", Obama promptly accepted the faulty premise that the Social Security system is in crisis. Why didn't he point out that had privatization been enacted, millions would have already seen the monthly checks standing between them and utter destitution go down the tubes, destroyed by the sharks at now bankrupt institutions like Lehman Bros?

Obama is too timid even to invoke the greatest hero in the Democrats' pantheon, Franklin Roosevelt. If ever there was a moment to quote FDR, to pledge a new, New Deal it is surely now.
The discussion of foreign affairs was even worse, with the added burden of being mostly repetitions of the first debate in Oxford, Mississippi. McCain invoked the uniqueness of America and its mission to bring freedom and light to the rest of the planet. Obama solemnly agreed. Neither man saw fit to address the fact that America is only able to shoulder these imperial burdens because China has been prepared to finance the war in Iraq. The difficult word "China" passed no one's lips. Nor did the issue of an immense and unsustainable Pentagon budget intrude, nor the thousand or so US military bases overseas.

Of the two performances, Obama's was the more appalling since he is meant to be the candidate of change and new ideas. He has no detectable commitment to change and no new ideas. Neither does McCain. Yet the post-debate panelists mostly claimed the Town Hall Meeting an absorbing affair, rich in content. We have one more debate, in which McCain will have another chance to reduce Obama's commanding lead, something he failed to do last night, even though it now seems Sarah Palin did slow McCain's slump with her performance last week. McCain and Palin are trying to get traction by slurring Obama for association with Bill Ayers, a leader of the the bomb-throwing antiwar Weathermen in the 60s. Obama was eight when they threw the bombs. It doesn't seem a productive line of attack for McCain and Palin, particularly when many Americans wouldn't mind blowing up Wall St themselves.

Excerpted from Alexander Cockburn @ Counterpunch

" The difficult word "China" passed no one's lips."

What debate was he watching? McCain referenced the US owing China a half-trillion dollars.

"Obama's kind of like Palin in that regard. All he has to do is not shit himself and hope that McCain doesn't miraculously pull it together. Affirmative action in action."

- Live or Die

Big Difference between Obama and Palin. Obama needs to keep his shit together because he is in the lead and so long as he doesn't do anything or say anything stupid, can coast to victory. Palin came out of the gates sounding like a retard, and has to keep her shit together just to redeem herself and prove she is capable of speaking intelligently, even if she spews garbage.

"Big Difference between Obama and Palin."

I was comparing them only in regards to how their respective debates have been scored by the pundits, not how they have performed. Both were scored according to some standard of not soiling their panties.

It boggles the mind that McCain is running on a platform of change and reform. Pointing fingers at how screwed up the government is, how bad things are, but excpeting people not to be shouting at their TV screens, "Yeah, but it is your party that did the screwing, John!"

I found the twice-mentioned "overhead projector" and the once-mentioned "hair transplant" the most straightforward and rivetting points in McCain's performance.

Can I get a "THAT ONE" T-shirt yet?

Being as it was a communist party debate, I assume a communist won it.

These guys want less freedom for me so I will be voting against them both.

3 mil for an overhead projector. Geez, a few more zeros and you're talking real money.

"John McCain needed a big night at Tuesday's second presidential debate to turn around a race that seems to be getting away from him. So he hit Barack Obama where it hurts: in the overhead projector."

www.washingtonpost.com

"Being as it was a communist party debate, I assume a communist won it."

Putin swears that he is no longer a communist. And that he nevers loses a debate.

The banks won.

***** But all Obama has to do in this environment is not be a Republican."
..... Posted by sawdust *****

.....and that would be ...because....

Because the economy is tanking and people will blame the party in control.

Again, Obama will win be default. Not becaue he is anything special or did anything special.

Had the economy not tanked we would still have a race.

"Being as it was a communist party debate, I assume a communist won it.
These guys want less freedom for me so I will be voting against them both."

You're absolutely right. Playing the video backwards I heard both of them say in unison, "no freedom for Jaydee . . . no freedom for Jaydee . . . "

Didn'r watch the debate-has some drying paint that needed supervision but (sorry 101) Jon Stewarts's "I've got snausages, Mr. Puddles" sound over John mcCadaver's wandering the stage was the funniest thing he's done in months.

Last night I saw a Navy aviator, flying out of the clouds and swooping down to inspect his target. Like a shark, he circled around it for inspection, and then climbed high, to gain altitude, and like a Falcon, came down fast and furious, and struck the target. The target never knew what hit it. Then the fighter pilot broke radio silence and reported, I got, the "That One." Of course, unless you have such instincts, you cannot understand what happened? Like the Titanic, whose crew at first did not even know they had brushed an iceberg, and were hell bent hell bent in that, "Not even God, can sink this ship." Thus the "That One," was struck by aircraft launched torpedoes. Torpedoes manufactured by Ayers, Wright, & Co. The second in command of the "That One," hurriedly put on his life preserver, and yelled, as he jump over the side, "I knew it, I new it, I knew it. This was no place, for on the job training." What a "sidekick," that second in command. Wow, he paddled from the Tennesse River, all the way back to Delaware.

You forgot the part where McCain crashes the jet.

Also, that he was ON the Titanic

Several times, especially during the first half of the debate, I thought McCain was going to hyperventilate. I think he was trying to convey urgency and enthusiasm, but to me he came across like a used car salesman who was trying to sell the American people a lemon. I heard he used "my friends" 22 times during the debate. The debate was an hour and a half long. Let's say McCain spoke half that time, or 45 minutes, that would mean he used the phrase once every other minute when he was speaking. Oh, well, at least he didn't say "my fellow prisoners" when he meant to say "my fellow Americans" like he did during a campaign speech today. . . .

in a Washinton Post op-ed "Time was, the Baltimore Orioles' manager was Earl Weaver, a short, irascible, Napoleonic figure who, when cranky, as he frequently was, would shout at an umpire, "Are you going to get any better or is this it?" With, mercifully, only one debate to go, that is the question about John McCain's campaign."
John, Are you going to get any better or is this it? if not, it's over!

McCain said "I know" 16 times during the debate, but he often didn't follow through and explain how he'd exhibit his knowledge in practice. Americans just have to take his word for it. This was most clear on the subject of Osama Bin Laden. "I'll get Osama bin Laden, my friends," McCain said. "I'll get him. I know how to get him. I'll get him no matter what and I know how to do it."

One would think that since he puts country first, if McCain really knew how to get Bin Laden, he would have shared this priceless information with the Bush administration long ago. This is a good example of McCain acting like a used car salesman trying to sell us a lemon.

When is the press and the American people going to start asking the dem's why did stuck it to us like they did. B Franks should be put in jail....
