In one of the more awkward moments of the debate last night, Sen. John McCain referred to Sen. Barack Obama as "that one". I am still trying to figure out what he meant by that. It may not have any racial connotations, but it is certainly insulting. Also, notice how he drops among men when he makes the reference - it didn't go over well.

"The most memorable line of the night belonged to John McCain. McCain pointed out that "That One" vote for the 05 energy bill. Look for Republicans to note in coming days that "That One" also voted for higher taxes at least 94 times; "That One" has associations with unrepentant terrorists, etc..."

Taxman..."It may not have racial..." Stop right there. You already let the cat out of the bag. Of course that's going to be the angle.

I hope Obama loses simply because of race. Mostly because it means Obama loses, but I can't deny I enjoy the constant cries of racial prejudice.

When anyone pulls an Obama supporters string they say one of two things "That's racially motivated" and "I'd like to cuddle now Barack".

You may be right but every black person in america did not hear, 'that one'. They heard 'That Nigger'.

My friends,
The reason why I called him "that one"
is because I just plain forgot who he was.
We had one like him on board when I was in the Navy.
For five and one half years I did not have one to call that one.
Can someone tell me again who he is.
Where are my strawberries?

~John "I have fallen and I can't get up" McCain.

"Look for Republicans to note in coming days that "That One" also voted for higher taxes.."

I think he was referring to the Obamessiah as THE One, out of respect for The One Pelosi said was "...a leader God has blessed us with."
Nobody in the WORLD would be so crass as to disrespect The One.

They heard 'That Nigger'.

Maybe they were listening to some of "their" music. Maybe they were listening to "their" parents, or "their" children (or would that be chillin?), because no one - not even that bogeyman, the backwoods racist - uses the word nigger as frequently as black people in America. It's "their" badge of honor, "their" preference, "their" word.

I am not tolerant of racism, and in America it cuts both ways. If you want to take umbrage due to some imagined slight, some un-PC remark, that's the flip side of overt racism. Maybe McCain, in private, would have said "That SOB, That Bastard, That Cocksucker." Maybe "nigger" never crossed his mind, and yet he couldn't use a profanity to refer to someone he detests so he used a generic nominative.

But hey, it's been how long since we played the race card? It's like the gift that keeps on giving.

Is it me or was McCain too nervous? He was breathing very hard.

Also, he refered to second questioner as Alan (the first questioner's name) when the guy's name is Oliver.

One thing about Obama, he was talking about how bad it would be to buy insurance across state lines saying that credit cards go to the states with the lowest requirements (for consumer protect) and HE MENTIONED DELAWARE!!! I wonder how much money Joe Six Pack Biden has taken from them? What has Joe from Scranton done about credit cards ripping people off?

Please inform us when you've completed your investigations.

Regarding the question about the Treasury secretary, if this crisis is as bad as they claim, then why is it that neither candidate said, "I will ask Secretary Paulson to stay on for six months or one year until the bailout is properly implemented so that there are no gaps in the transition."

It goes to credibility my friends, and leadership too.

I am with Ozark, I doubt McCain would have used the "N" word there, but he definitely meant to insult and dehumanize Obama.

But hey, it's been how long since we played the race card? It's like the gift that keeps on giving.

I speak for myself only and not the rest (or maybe no one at all) when i say that I will do anything, and i mean anything, to get rid of the neo-cons and the talibaptists from our national conversation. And that includes playing the race card.

There is no doubt that we have become lazy, fat and stupid as a nation and that has resulted in more death and destruction that any ideology ever.

The weak and stupid americans have been duped by the talibaptists and the neo-cons, now it's time to taste some retribution from the common sense people.

then why is it that neither candidate said, "I will ask Secretary Paulson to stay on for six months or one year until the bailout is properly implemented so that there are no gaps in the transition."

You have answered your own question.

I will do anything, and i mean anything

...because the Ends Justify the Means.

It's known as social engineering and both sides of the aisle are guilty of it.

What? McCain made a good argument and Obama failed to answer it? Shit then we need a strawman in here, quick! McCain was.. racist or disrespectful or something. Fuck the CONTENT, if we address the CONTENT, then people might figure out Obama doesn't give two shits about the leftist agenda, and only his own power! I mean god damn, we need to nip this shit in the bud RIGHT NOW before someone brings up FISA!

"why is it that neither candidate said, 'I will ask Secretary Paulson to stay on for six months or one year until the bailout is properly implemented so that there are no gaps in the transition.'"

Because, as Brokaw stated when asking the question, Paulson has already said he will not stay on.

**** then why is it that neither candidate said, "I will ask Secretary Paulson to stay on for six months

......Paulson is part of the problem........he is radio-active......

........no matter who gets in...Paulson is gone....

Anyone is not up-to-speed enough to have realized this is the case since the late 1700's is one of the lazy, fat and stupid americans i am talking about.

They either need to be educated or to pe pushed to the back of the line.

I'm sorry it's so cold and callus but when our current conversations causes 4000 of my american brothren (and a million arabs who have mothers too) to die in meaningless wars, it is time for the war to be brought to the criminals that started it for their own political gain.

"That One"

He can't remember any names. Why do you think he calls everyone 'my friend', He's OLD.>

We don't let grandpa drive the car in our family.

I didn't see racism in McCain's "that one;" I saw contempt. McCain has a sense of entitlement to the presidency that's not one of his more charming traits. He also likes to demonize and disrespect his opponent, which plays a lot better in front of your own crowds than it does in a town hall that has been ordered to stay quiet.

I didn't see racism in McCain's "that one;" I saw contempt.

Yep, that is exactly how I read it. Of course, the McCain camp's response will be "we don't care if people like us, this country needs a leader." Which is a good political response.

yet another try at the left wing media doing EVERYTHING They can to get obama elected PLAYING THE RACE CARD as ITS ALWAYS THAT SIDE THAT DOES

and some of you keep trying to 'poo poo' that comment from me and the left will keep doing it over and over.........

that one guy on cnn was just falling all over himself to get that going

We have plenty of taboo racial terms that are off limits. Unless someone is using one of those terms, I don't want to hear that a comment is racial. This shit has been taken to such a ridiculous extreme it isn't even funny anymore.

If you think a white man can't dislike a black man for any other reason aside from race, then you are the prejudiced one.

It was a sign of contempt but to say "that one" is racial is just sad. The thought police are active enough in this country, we don't need to widen their jurisdiction.

Use of the term "that one" for another person is no more racist than using the term "this one" when referring to yourself. If anything I saw it as an awkward way of making a heavy distinction between the two candidates and belittling the other one for his vote on whatever topic. The fact that "racism" is the first thing that pops into a lot of liberals' minds makes me think that they are more racist than anyone else. Many are obsessed with race and cannot stop thinking about it.

I didn't see it as racist. I saw it as a petulant child tattling on a sibling.

McCain acts like he's entitled to the presidency because he played the game and kissed Bush's ass for 7 years. McCain has done everything the right asked to make himself palatable to them and he's still not winning.

I'm sure tired of hearing McCain say "I know how to do _____, and I'll do it", yet never spells out how he's going to do it. If he were truly for country first wouldn't he be "Doing It" now?

I have just spoken to a black friend of mine. He didn't hear "that one" he like many of my other associates in the legal field heard "that ni**er" these are not dumb ass people I am talking about, they are smart (lawyers and judges and such), they know a dog whistle when they hear one. Of course I am in "the south" so perhaps democrats are more sensitive to this sort of thing down here.

BTW - saw Michelle Obama speak at a rally yesterday, she was BRILLIANT! (and damn it is even prettier in real life than she is on TV and in pictures - I almost hate the bitch :))

"If you think a white man can't dislike a black man for any other reason aside from race, then you are the prejudiced one."

You're right, Sully, but you must know by now that his disciples have designated anyone referring to the Obamessiah without first dropping to a knee and bowing one's head is guilty of sacrilege and is a RACIST. In a few more months they'll legislate that he be referred to as "Exalted Dear Leader."

Anyone who heard "that nigger" really _is_ a dumbass. If you want to hear it as something else, hear it as "that piece of shit". Because _that_ is clearly how he meant it by his tone of voice. Anyone who heard it as "that nigger" is a sack of crap that sees racism at every turn. Such people need to grow the fuck up. They are holding back our progress as an entire planet and should check their baggage at home. The adults are trying to do work without that childish kind of bias.

"He didn't hear "that one" he like many of my other associates in the legal field heard "that ni**er" these are not dumb ass people I am talking about, they are smart (lawyers and judges and such), they know a dog whistle when they hear one."

In reality, he said "that one". So anyone who heard anything different may not be stupid, but they are delusional or willfully ignorant or suffering auditory hallucinations or having some other kind of problem with reality.

This is an open and shut case. He said what he said. Anyone who wants to insert other words into his speach is either dishonest or wrong.

You may be right but every black person in america did not hear, 'that one'. They heard 'That Nigger'.

Oh Please!...he is only 1/2

If he is not 'that one', then he must be 'the other one'.

No racism--perhaps contempt, dismissive, condenscending, but not racist.

Even Michelle Obama on Larry King said it was nothing.

"That One" has no racial tones anymore than "You People" which was stated by Ross Perot once upon a past campaign. Rev. Wright's "God Damm America" was directed mainly at White America, hence, it includes Hillary Clinton and all of her supporters. For 20 years, Barack Obama heard words of hate against America. Now he is trying to "Snake Oil Salesman" his way into the Whitehouse. Mr. Obama charges the McCain Campaign with comments over the top because of their adds related to Ayers. However, Barack suffers from amnesia related to his racial Spanish adds in the States of Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico, in which racial lies and misquotes are even attributed to Rush. Racial adds in Spanish. in an effort to obtain Mexican American votes. The entire Obama campaign smells, and the odor is not one of roses.

MRRETALIATION-
Why doesn't McCain have the moral cojones to level these smears and accusations to Obama's face, as he does in his rallies? He had ample opportunity in a debate two days ago.

He had ample opportunity in a debate two days ago.

I don't recall that topic ever having been brought up.

Do you?

No. McCain never brought it up. He brought it up in rallies immediately before and after, and he and Palin pound away on it daily. But, no, McCain didn't bring any of it up when Obama was there and able to respond.

You wrestle with that for a bit. I'm signing off for the night.

But, no, McCain didn't bring any of it up when Obama was there and able to respond.

I wish he would have.

It would have been entertaining to watch Obama parse the defintion of 'is' when answering.

McCain never brought it up.

Because it wasn't McCain's job to "bring it up".

It was an ostensibly "town hall" styled debate with questions presented to the candidates by a dipshit moderator.

There were a lot of things that weren't "brought up".

Like Ayers.

Or infanticide.

Or simply being the biggest piece of communist shit American politics has ever produced.

But Tom did his job....

I'm signing off for the night.

Sure you are.

Boyd?

The questions in that debate were pathetic.

I thought the purpose of a Town Hall debate was to field questions that were out-of-the-ordinary.

The questions in that debate were pathetic

Tom did his job.

The only real debate in this campaign was that brokeback thing with the preacher....

Jeff J,

I have to agree with you, the questions were stupid.

Isn't it amasing that these media reporters can't seemed to ask questions that have meat, and also can't manage to make them answer the actual questions.

"Because it wasn't McCain's job to "bring it up"."

It didn't stop Screechy Sarah from talking about whatever she wanted. McChicken just didn't have the balls to do it. He'd rather hide behind Sarah's skirts.

MW,

What was so disappointing was the redundancy of questions between debate #2 and debate #1.

Yes, given the current economic melt-down, it was going to be addressed in the debate. However, I was hoping for a broader range of discussion.

The best part of the debate was when McCain and Obama agreed to (temporarily) suspend the agreed-upon guidelines and flesh-out an issue.

I wish the whole debate would have been structured like that.

He'd rather hide behind Sarah's skirts.

No -- He wanted to look up Sarah's skirts.

"No -- He wanted to look up Sarah's skirts. "

That too.

I actually like mccain in some points because he actually brought out some ideas that had a little concrete of substance.

We don't need all the finite information on how to get there, just the basic foundation.

Really neither one has supplied such.
