I loved McCain for about fifteen years. I couldn't wait for him to run for President. When Bush got the nod in 2000 i was crushed, but like a good puppy I voted for dubya. I towed the party line back then.

I think i liked him more from a military fraternal aspect than anything else to tell the truth. That's a VERY hard habit to break. He was against being involved in Lebanon and of course so was I, being one who went there. He also criticized Reagan after the barracks bombing. I think that sealed the deal-- you will find many older Marines liking him for that reason believe it or not. When he replaced senator Goldwater in Arizona twenty years ago I think that was one of the finest days of my life, LOL!

Obviously no one that ever has a chance to be president is gonna be what you want them to be.

A great writer once wrote something like, "It matters little if you win or lose, what matters most is how well you walk through the fire."

So I'll say, "FUCK" every now and then at what John's become, shake my head in disappointment and move on. McCain had a chance, and he almost made it through the fire, but then, he succumbed.

Perhaps McCain suffers from brain damage from his stay in Vietnam as a POW.....

Same here. My wife and I used to admire McCain. We'd had a few discussions over the years about how if he ran for President we'd probably vote for him.
