The real story of John McCain, according to Tim Dickinson in Rolling Stone, is of "a man who has consistently put his own advancement above all else, a man willing to say and do anything to achieve his ultimate ambition: to become commander in chief, ascending to the one position that would finally enable him to outrank his four-star father and grandfather."

Didn't see this posted front or back.

Kinda long and we already knew a lot of it but it's a good read.

"In its broad strokes, McCain's life story is oddly similar to that of the current occupant of the White House. John Sidney McCain III and George Walker Bush both represent the third generation of American dynasties. Both were born into positions of privilege against which they rebelled into mediocrity. Both developed an uncanny social intelligence that allowed them to skate by with a minimum of mental exertion. Both struggled with booze and loutish behavior. At each step, with the aid of their fathers' powerful friends, both failed upward. And both shed their skins as Episcopalian members of the Washington elite to build political careers as self-styled, ranch-inhabiting Westerners who pray to Jesus in their wives' evangelical churches.

In one vital respect, however, the comparison is deeply unfair to the current president: George W. Bush was a much better pilot."

Ted -- the article is definitely one that I would have missed if you hadn't posted it here. I have only gotten through part of it, but the first 2 pages really capture the man; and that LCOL Dramesi looks like the type of officer I most admired -- not in for self-pleasure, but there out of a sense of national duty and purpose.

Naval aviators are terrific guys, but they have this infantile playboy ethos they feel obliged to live up to. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it was really captured in McCain's reasoning for duty in Rio.

And when you look at his behavior, McCain seems to be all about what makes McCain feel good. Then comes logic, and duty.

This is a perfect example of a phenomenon we had all either witnessed or read about.

A person who had a life of priviledge, always protected, very rarely amounts to anything more than a row of rabbit pills.

Again, Just like GWB. Their struggle involves searchin for legitimacy and validation.

Here is the irony. A pampered one who has a more moral outlook on life is more suspectible to this problem because their soul knows they haven't worked for what they have recieved.

Which person has more depth of character and knowledge about the game?

1. Born on 3rd base

2. Had to stand at the plate, hit the ball, advance to first, do his part at first to distract the pitcher and then advance to 2nd, then finally advance to 3rd BEFORE looking towards home plate.

Compared to Obama and Biden, the true mavericks are McCain and Palin. With evidence!

A TRUE Maverick would not use His Fathers influences to gain in life. A True Maverick would seek what He wants Himself. Palin is no Maverick either.

McCain's just talking 'gobbledygook'
By Fontaine Maverick / The Rag Blog / August 31, 2008

I just got a call from my brother, Maury Maverick, who said that if he hears that John McCain is a Maverick ONE MORE TIME, he is going to shoot the TV. Well, my brother doesn't even own a gun, but I know exactly how he feels. Every time we hear that use of our name, it is like fingernails on a blackboard times ten.

theragblog.blogspot.com

McCain aint no Maverick.

At best he's a one-trick pony and that trick wasn't even that interesting the first time he did it.

Be Well.

The question of McCain being a maverick has been answered once and for all by Sarah.

A Maverick is one who avoids labels at all cost. Since Sarah has applied a label and is holding it up as a badge McCain and Sarah devoid themselves of being called Mavericks.

True Mavericks don't need no stinking badges or labels.

If I hear her say "maverick" or "You betcha!" one more time I'm going to throw up.

you betcha! *wink*

Not only is he not a maverick but he allowed Bush to completely castrate him. I was a fan back in 2000 but he's been a sad joke ever since he lost that nomination.

"I was a fan back in 2000 but he's been a sad joke ever since he lost that nomination."

I actually voted for him in the California primary. What an unprincipled douche he has become.

Good God!!!

Rolling Stone magazine?...This guy who wrote it wouldn't fight for anything except next hit 0n the bong..Lefties will do anything especially college puke lefties who went to school on my dime and bad-mouth a guy who actually suffered torture at the hands of another country.

Funny how these guys defended Kerry who threw his medals away, or Murtha who said our troops Killed 'in cold blood"

he might even have a bit of credence if he knew anything about Military Family tradition, or family tradition at all, But i am sure the only loyalty he has is to the guy who supplies him with his doobies.

What a despicable article, full of comtempt for a man who has suffered and seved his nation. And to compare him to George Bush who ranks right up there with Kerry.

it si funny how he says he used his fathers influence, But when it most mattered, he went with integrity , honor and his brothers in arms when he refused early relief.

go ahead leftie's congratulate each other for being so smart to be able to denegrate someone who actually did somethoing in his life worth many people's praise and respect and you go with the rolling Sotone 'reporter" who hasn't done anything except taken us to another level of "America lost"...You should be so proud

There's a few of us like that, Sully. Nullifidian and I exchanged the same sentiment a while back.

McCain's become a disappointment.

McCain makes Rudi Giuliani look like a moral and complex candidate.

Too bad Mr Roger's isn't on air anymore. They could install John McCain into the Neighborhood of make believe and He could run for President there. I am sure King Friday and Prince Tuesday will be delighted to have a pretend Maverick. Hell Sarah Palin could be Gabrell Pussycat. They both have that high pitched voice. They would fit right in.

Larry

his pandering to the right is consistent with the only constant in his life: doing what's best for himself. To put the matter squarely: John McCain is his own special interest.

And therein lies the rub.

McCain is first, country is last. The policies that he is promoting is proof.... more tax cuts to ruin our economy, votes against children and veterans, non ending war, the list goes on and on.

McCain first.

Country last.

"go ahead leftie's congratulate each other for being so smart to be able to denegrate someone who actually did somethoing in his life worth many people's praise and respect and you go with the rolling Sotone 'reporter" who hasn't done anything except taken us to another level of "America lost"...You should be so proud"

Yeah, we don't have any respectable sources for information like the Swift Boat Liars.....

People who live in glass houses....

Unfortunately..You lefties were unable to prove the swift boat 527 were liars, And so Kerry Lost...And Most of what they said was true.. the records from Vietnam were lacks, So Kerry was stuck with being a self-promoting narccisist who took a movie camera to chronicle his 'heroism'..And Although John McCain has many eyewitnesses to his ordeal and real heroism, he doesn't have a Movie montage of what he did. So Rolling stone punks can say what they want and you "pot-haed, slackers" who need to be taken care of can relish in the "opinion" of someone who's only hardship in life is that Starbucks didn't have any cinnamom for his cappachino

Did you know you give Hillbillies a bad name?
Even Jed Clampett's Nephew Jethro would be ashamed of your worthless ass....

We all HAVE to look behind us with r'tards running the country-we never know when they're gonna try to shove an untreated telephone pole up our collective asses "for our own good"....

HAHA

there it is again, there is no solid proof that Kerry was "Lied about" only he said, he said. So we will really never know..But, Kerry's past activities gave legitimacy to the statements that it was not beyond belief that he was a 'self-promoting narcissit that 'exaggerated his Vietnam experience. Who get wounded three times in 4 month? Did he wear a sign that said 'Shoot my dumb ass".

So you can give all the links you want about 'Swift Boaters Debunked"..it is simple other people statements...again..

As for Diebold, it is always some sinister motive when lefties lose..it has to be, How can anyone be against 'Diveersity, tolerance, love and peace"...Please..get a grip

They could install John McCain into the Neighborhood of make believe and He could run for President there.

There's always Colombia or Georgia. He's already claimed Georgian citizenship.

Check out CCs link-it gives ALL the facts....

Unfortunately for you-the Not-So-Swift Boat Liars have been Proven to be liars over and over and over and over-as I said earlier-you give Hillbillies a bad name.
In your case-mentally retarded mosquitoes look down at you and shake their heads in wonderment-that you make them look like Mensa candidates.....

Good God!!!

Why don't you try refuting the facts as reported? You,re lashing out is as tiresome as Sarah's voice and lack of knowledge.

Let us know when you have an actual point to make regarding the article.

There were no facts reported, he simply interpreted all ready know facts to fit his agenda...I still find it hard to understand how you defend this guy ..when the most important fact to dispute his illogical hate towards a solid american is the fact that when given the option of early release he refused...So how does that fit into the rolling stone jerk-off's position that McCain is a typical democrat, self-centered and self-absolved?

self-centered and self-absolved?

Given his record with Keating, selling off Pentagon property to his backers cheaply and his craven ass-kissing of the talibaptists, somebody has to absolve McCadaver....

And as for the article that that metrosexual posted, Of course they all support the 'Swift Boat Liar myth'..I bleieve half is true and half is not

But once again, you miss the point. the fact that Kerry testifed before congress in his uniform all "hippified" and said the things he said, with pictures of him devaluing his medals. Gave more power to the ads, He was already under suspicion of using anti-war sentiment to propel his political career..Just like Obama, so crying about it now is useless. John Kerry reaped what he sowed.

You can blame McCain for being too close to Bush, or being a 'de-regulator' which may have helped with the current economy, that is working for you..But to try and equate his Military service to Kerry or Bush is a loser, plus it just makes you HONO's who were never in the military, know nothing about it and even degrade and despise our soldiers look, petty, foolish and whiny..

So

What is his record with keating? do you even know?

Natural succession,
The make believe maverick following the make believe cowboy; republicans will fall for anything

This is unbelieveable and so scary...

The Obama "Kids"

Hillbilly jihad:
Where were your sanctimonious protests when Kerry, another honorable veteran, was Swift-boated in 2004?

Ah, but that was different, because he hated the Vietnam War and protested against it, right?

"Arise, my democratic brethren, because the ignorant and hypocritical Right-Wingers are upon us."

This is unbelieveable and so scary...

~Hillbillytalibaptist

Agreed. The fact that a bunch of so-called adults would liken a kid singing to Hitler Youth is scary in that it belies an ignorance so absolute it is practically total.

It's unbelievable that there are morons out there that think like that and it's scary to think that some of them are in positions of power.

You idjits on the right have no relationship with reality at all these days. Yer like some kind of cult by this point.

Seek help.

Be Well.

Spud just noticed that the asshole who posted that POS vid on u-tube is too much of a coward to allow anyone to post anything negative about it.

Gawd the right are a bunch of sackless pussies.

Not just crazy but craven as well.

Be Well.

"It's unbelievable that there are morons out there that think like that and it's scary to think that some of them are in positions of power."

Gees... I feel the same way everytime I read the hate-filled and venomous posts about conservatives...

You Know there is an old saying 'You reap what you sow"..you do realize if Kerry hadn't taken an 8mm movie camera to Vietnam to chronicle his 'heroic" actions, then wore a 'hippified" uniform to congress to bad mouth US Soldiers and been caught on Camera devaluing his medals. Those swift boat ads wouls have had no effect, they were probably at best half true..But he himself planted that seed. People were already suspicious that he used anti-war sentimrnt to propel his political career..So he got what he asked for...

He can only blame himself, for allowing that doubt to be planted and then nurtured by the Swift boaters, Your past will always haunt your future

Talibaptist? that is funny...

"if you have the children, you have the nation"

Your hero

Che Guevera

I wish to hell people would stop using the word maverick.

The only maverick I know was the guy I used to watch on tv when I was a kid. That's the image most people my age have of the word.

McCain is like a sand dune always shifting.

"That's the image most people my age have of the word."

Most people your age are lucky they remember where they put the remote...

This one is even better

Obama kinder

I like it... its catchy and kind of grows on ya...

You do realize Obama had this video linked on his website till he realized...THE CONNECTION

He should have left the link on his website... he has a good following in Berlin you know...

lol Smash...

if memory serves me well.. hehe.. well hmmmmm.....

Much of this won't matter in a month when McCain loses.

Latest polls out of Virginia: Obama up by 10 and 12 points.

The last maverick standing....

I'm thinking of this song from Man of La Mancha for TAKITEZ

"To dream...the impossible dream....."

This is his quest....to follow that star....no matter how hopeless....

Two factors....

1. The Bradley effect.

2. The Ohio surprise --- in 2004 Kerrey was 8 points ahead in polls and lost the State to Bush.

At this point Obama won't even need Ohio

The Ohio surprise could be anecdotal example for other states.

The Bradley effect could be nationwide --- may be much less, but it still could be a factor.

TAKiTEZ

I live in a Red State.

Every single Republican I know is voting for Obama-Biden.

Thx for the info, Americanunity....

Birds of the same feather flock together. I would guess there are folks out there who think differently than you.

"1. The Bradley effect" is surely a real threat, and the Repubs will exploit it for all it's worth. I will not be enough in 2008 to salvage a hopelessly corrupt, senile-imbecilic ticket.

2. "The Ohio surprise --- in 2004 Kerrey was 8 points ahead in polls and lost the State to Bush" is by now as documented a case of vote theft as was Florida in 2000. The uglies would have to fix at least a dozen states to make this a factor in 2008. herm

I will not be enough in 2008 to salvage a hopelessly corrupt, senile-imbecilic ticket.

Projecting, Herm?

Shit! I = it. You know what, Jeffy. Didn't you? herm

I think that's what you meant to say.

Some of the older little buckaroos on here will remember this one...

MAVERICK

Maverick---back when James Garner was still a young stud and TV was black and white. Great show, and Garner is still one of my favorite actors.

BuffaloBob -

Some of my favorite tv Westerns I watched all the time --

Broken Arrow
Cochise
Have Gun, Will Travel
Death Valley Days
Wagon Train
MacKenzies Raiders
Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans
Bonanza
Wild Bill Hickock
Roy Rogers
Gene Autry
Hopalong Cassidy
Annie Oakley

I remember my favorite western -- "Broken Arrow" -- would come on at 9 p.m. on Friday nights -- the same time as the weekly "Friday Night Fights" were scheduled. Since we had only one tv my Dad always insisted on watching the fights if they were on so I had to sometimes miss my show. :(
No VCR or DVDs in those days.

I've been to the Roy Roger's museum in Apple Valley, CA.
His horse "Trigger" is actually stuffed and kept in the museum. hahaha

If you ever get out to Los Angeles don't miss a trip to the Gene Autry Museum. It's state of the art. Unbelieveable all the Western history and memorabilia in the museum's collection. It also has an entire room devoted only to Colt guns that would knock your socks off.

If you ever get out to Los Angeles don't miss a trip to the Gene Autry Museum.
#66 | Posted by CalifChris at 2008-10-07 01:34 PM

It really is a terrific museum. I thought it would be all about Gene Autry, blah, blah, blah. But it definitely is not. I believe they're also hooked up with the old Southwest Museum. The combined collections are astounding.

In fact, I was able to go to opening ceremonies of the Autry. At the end of the series of events a bunch of Hollywood bigwigs, asked to leave the souvenir Pendleton blankets behind so they could be donated the less fortunate, were scrambling over each other to nab their blanket(s).

Best part of it all was Willie Nelson---who'd headlined with Glenn Campbell---staying behind to jam with a bunch of guys for well over an hour.

CALIFCHRIS -

You mentioned "Have Gun, Will Travel." I loved that as a kid. Remember when Paladin would be hunkered down in some ritzy San Francisco club and a guy would come up with a silver tray that had his card on it? The card said "Have Gun, Will Travel" and then "Wire Paladin/San Francisco." It was years later that I finally came to the realization that the character Richard Boone played wasn't actually named "Wire Paladin." Seemed like an odd first name but, what the hell, let the stalkin' and shootin' begin.

main street doncha know, you maverick betcha, (wink wink, nudge nudge),...

We need change for to change what we need to change! We can hope for that change or change our hope. Hopefully the change will change the way we hope. Believe the change that we hope to change.

Funny story you wrote -- "Wire" Palladin.
I can see, though, where a little kid might think that was his full name. lol

I always thought Paladin was so "cool" -- sort of a "gentleman gunslinger." One of my favorites too.

"We need change for to change what we need to change! We can hope for that change or change our hope. Hopefully the change will change the way we hope. Believe the change that we hope to change."

Ok, here's some change. Now, go buy yourself a cup of java. Ask Sarah Palin if you can use her Starbuck's cup, once she's gotten her revealed wisdom for the day from reading the information printed thereon.

You're right, Chris, Richard Boone was very cool. Traveling from the social nest of San Francisco to do what it normally took Seven Samurai to pulll off. Kind of a solo Magnificent Seven.

once she's gotten her revealed wisdom for the day from reading the information printed thereon.
