Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Sam Stein: Sarah Palin revived a discredited year-old attack on Barack Obama, claiming on Fox News that he should be disqualified from serving as president because he had once proclaimed that troops in Afghanistan were "air raiding villages and killing civilians."

Say it ain't so, Sarah, there you go again . . .

That is the Right Winged Republicans smear the opposition with bullshit that was stated by their own people. bwhahahahaha God how far they have fallen.

In talking about Afghanistan he said quote:

"We've got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous problems there."

She took the words right out of his mouth. He said we were "just air-raiding villages and killing civilians" in Afghanistan. Like it or not that is EXACTLY what he said.

How long before this pit bull with lip stick starts calling him a Muslim and claiming that Michelle hates America??
They are getting desperate so they will go as low as they can, fortunately for them, their base is too stupid or too full of hate to care. Fortunately for us, their base isn't large enough to elect them.
Of course though there is still Diebold.

He said what he said, Danni. And you and he can deny it.

The AP fact-checked the claim by pointing out that none other than President Bush himself had bemoaned the excessive loss of innocent Afghani lives and the setback such casualties caused for U.S. military efforts there.

Hey, my friends, I once fucked a Brazilian.

"He said what he said, Danni. And you and he can deny it."

And McCain said he would be ok with remaining in Iraq for 100 years. He said he doesn't know much about the economy. He said he is a deregulator. I can go on but I think you get my point ANAMERICAN.
Tell your candidate to discuss the issues confronting America. Tell Palin to either be willing to confront the press as any normal vice presidential candidate could and would or else quit pretending to be a serious candidate. America is not ready for a talking Vice Presidential Barbie that only speaks talking points when you pull the string.

The Taliban forces itself on the people of the lawless mts of Afghanistan. They cannot survive without the villages. The bad guys are in the villages all the time and when our guys get a bead on 'em and drop bombs on 'em, the unfortunate innocents that are near them will be blown up too. That is a fact of war. It is ugly, but that is the way it is.

"And you can't deny it...."

He didn't say what Palin said he said, and you can't deny that. Or you coyuld deny it, if you wanted to be scum at the same level as Palin.

"That is a fact of war...."

A fact that makes Obama's point exactly, which emphasizes Palin's scumosity.

"Let me comment on the civilian casualties, if I might," said the president. First, I fully understand the angst, the agony and the sorrow that Afghan citizens feel when an innocent life is lost. I know that must cause grief in villages and heartbreak in homes.

"Secondly, I can assure the Afghan people, like I assured the President, that we do everything we can to protect the innocent; that our military operations are mindful that innocent life might be exposed to danger, and we adjust accordingly.

"Thirdly, it is the Taliban who surround themselves with innocent life as human shields. The Taliban are the cold-blooded killers. The Taliban are the murderers. The Taliban have no regard for human life. And therefore, we've spent some time talking about -- as the President rightly expressed his concerns about civilian casualty. And I assured him that we share those concerns."

Karzai, for his part, said he "had a good discussion with President Bush on civilian casualties. I'm very happy to tell you that President Bush felt very much with the Afghan people, that he calls the Afghan people allies in the war against terror, and friends, and that he is as much concerned as I am, as the Afghan people are. I was very happy with that conversation."

www.whitehouse.gov

So Bush admitted we've killed civilians. What's your point?

Obama's point was that we needed to put more resources into that godforsaken shithole so that we don't bomb villages and kill civilians.

As for Palin, here point is just...right...there!...at the top of her head.

Given the poll trends the last several weeks, we need to expect more and not less of these sorts of Republican lies.

ZED - There's a WP article on that this morning. (www.washingtonpost.com). McCain's already shown that he's lost his self-respect, doesn't give a damn how he's remembered, and is erratic as hell (pre-senile dementia?). From his perspective, he's got nothing to lose.

I find it helpful to occasionally recall that Steven Schmidt---McCain's in-the-trough lobbyist and campaign manager---is a protege of Karl Rove, who was in turn a protege of Lee Atwater.

Why does John McCain want to stay in Iraq for 100 years????

Here's what McCain actually said:

QUESTIONER: President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years --

McCAIN: Maybe a hundred.

QUESTIONER: Is that -- is that --

McCAIN: We've been in South Korea -- we've been in Japan for 60 years. We've been in South Korea for 50 years or so. That'd be fine with me as long as Americans --

QUESTIONER: So that's your policy?

McCAIN: -- As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed, then it's fine with me. I hope it would be fine with you if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where Al Qaeda is training, recruiting, and equipping and motivating people every single day.

Does that answer your question, Danni? Perhaps we need to pull troops out of South Korea and Japan before we get them out of Iraq.

My point, Doc is that Obama's statement led anyone hearing it to believe that it was the ONLY thing our troops were doing in Afghanistan.

"Perhaps we need to pull troops out of South Korea and Japan before we get them out of Iraq...."

The next president will have to accelerate a draw-down and Iraq, and may well remove some US troops from other countries, in recognition of current economic realities.

In 2005, the following was reported :

It's important not to downplay the good that America has done in Afghanistan. U.S. dollars have contributed to the construction of over 200 schools, the immunization against measles and polio of 4 million children, and the rehabilitation of Afghanistan's lifelinethe critical Kabul-Kandahar highway. With U.S. support, Karzai has gradually expanded the reach of the central government toward the lawless periphery.

Yes, I guess Barack is right. We have only been air villages and killing civilians.

I can see where you might take it that way. For myself, I never took it that way and I'm confident it wasn't meant that way.

Doc, he has never acknowledged that the U S has done anything further. In fact, he vows to do some of the same things I quoted in #21 as though we haven't done anything in that area.

He's actually talked about an expanded role in Afghanistan. I'm not sure I agree with him on that, but that's his position.

In the statement that Palin mischaracterized he attributes the alarming number of civilian deaths caused by US (and presumably NATO) fire to a lack of boots on the ground.

Given the poll trends the last several weeks, we need to expect more and not less of these sorts of Republican lies.

----

Obama lies too...they're politicians, that's what they do.

"Obama lies, too...."

Well, everyone lies, don't they? It's the human condition. But some lies put the stench of sulfur in one's nose. That's not an accident. Think about it.

So Obama wants out of Iraq and into Afghanistan. Before escalating Afghanistan we have to figure out our commitment and the exit strategy; neither exists at this time. There is a coalition available for fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, it even includes Iraq.

There is also the issue of confused Pakistan; we have more work to do with and in Pakistan first. Pakistan is a nuclear country, it is unstable, and has a Taliban influence. Hasty and irrational moves into Afghanistan can be met with disastrous consequences.

To say the least, Afghanistan is complicated. Only in the very near future is there any USA support for extensive operations in Afghanistan, and at this time it is only by those whose policy is anywhere but Iraq (Democrats). The Soviets had 120,000 troops in Afghanistan and lost, it is not a place to jump in and make war. The Bush administration has pursued a cautious and supportive philosophy for a very good reason.

The last thing America needs to a rookie president making war in a country with little geopolitical value and the last thing George Bush is going to do is to preempt the next President with a commitment to Afghanistan.

If the US goes into Afghanistan in anyway not part of NATO it will be the doing of a Democratic President trying to have his own war. There is no justification for any escalation in Afghanistan.

Our sole objective is to find and capture Bin Laden. This objective does not include fighting a war in Afghanistan or adding the destabilization of Pakistan. Currently we have Bin Laden jailed in a cave, he is unable to travel, he is unable to communicate but in the most rudimentary ways. We have him in the best place possible short of dead.

"I'm a deregulator."

Sincerely, John McBush.

"The fundamentals of the economy are basicly sound."

Sincerely, John McOnomist

Like usual, Republicans are trying to detract the public's attention from the real issues by engaging in meaningless fights over a few words.

The fact is that Obama was right, the American strategy in Afghanistan needed major improvement, the truth is that air strikes caused civilian casualties, and it is absolutely ridiculous to sit here and fight over the use of the word "just". The truth is that Osama bin Laden is still out there, our objectives in Afghanistan are still not fulfilled, and this administration's definition of "winning" and "success" in regards to wars is quite feeble and lacks credence.

In the meantime, how is life here at home? Did any of these wars improve the lives of the average American? We all know that a few benefited immensely from all these wars, but what about you? Is the price of gas down? Is your job more secure? Is the country prospering? Do you feel more secure?

The most hilarious and scary thing of all is that Republicans are using Sara Palin to shove all this shit into the public's face, like she really knows what she is talking about. By now everybody knows that the woman is a good looking simpleton incapable of digesting a complex thought, and that men react to her more positively because some body parts twitch at the sight of her. Republicans are simply continuing their strategy to treat the American public as a mass of stupid people who like to be told what to think and now they are using a folksy good looking face to do it.

Judging by how well the Republican failed propaganda catches on with some people, hey, maybe they are right. If the morass of the past eight years didn't do the job to shake people out of their dim-witted stupor, they deserve everything that is coming to them.

www.bucksright.com

After being featured on Hannity & Colmes in a damning 2004 video showing Democrats fighting tooth-and-nail against greater Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac regulations, Democrat Congressman Artur Davis admits Democrats dropped the ball on reigning in the failed institutions and calls on fellow Democrats to do the same.

"Like a lot of my Democratic colleagues, I was too slow to appreciate the recklessness of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I defended their efforts to encourage affordable homeownership, when in retrospect I should have heeded the concerns raised by their regulator in 2004. Frankly, I wish my Democratic colleagues would admit that when it comes to Fannie and Freddie, we were wrong. By the way, I wish my Republican colleagues would admit that they missed the early warning signs that Wall Street deregulation was overheating the securities market and promoting dangerously lax lending practices. When it comes to the debacle in our capital markets, there is much blame to go around for both sides."

Along with President Clinton, I take issue with Davis' contention that equal blame exists on both sides. President Bush requested greater oversight in 2003, Republicans are clearly seen in the video fighting for greater oversight in 2004, and John McCain led the charge for greater oversight in 2005. All efforts were rebuffed by Democrats, who demagogued the issue with racial politics that made reform impossible to accomplish. At least they tried. I see no evidence of any push toward greater Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac oversight since the short bus rolled onto Capitol Hill in January 2007.

That said, I appreciate Congressman Davis' candor in admitting Democrats let their ideology get in the way of what was right for the country.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, here comes the new Republican strategy, and please be good and swallow it whole!

Democrats are really to blame for the failures of this administration! We are going to dig deeply and hard, and find a few words and facts here and there to prove our case. And you better go along with it, because that is the only thing that we have left going for us. We are a miserable bunch who let a group of far right wings ideologists to twist our ideals to an almost unrecognizable form that we were able to sell to everybody. This allowed us to whatever the heck we wanted for so long and managed to fool the public so good, so please, don't take this away from us now! Please!

The truth is that Osama bin Laden is still out there, our objectives in Afghanistan are still not fulfilled, and this administration's definition of "winning" and "success" in regards to wars is quite feeble and lacks credence.

What should "our objectives" be in Afghanistan other than capturing Bin Laden, ChangeGirl? Read my post #27 and tell me EXACTLY what your clueless candidate is going to do. How many troops should lose their lives looking for one man (or his corpse)?

Clinton and Congressman Arthur Davis are willing to admit they could have done more to stop this economic mess. Too bad you can't accept it.

I am looking at results and I am still waiting for some good news. I am going to let the generals figure out the strategy, and it is my understanding that their position is the same as Obama's. You should probably do that too.

Anamerican, you should probably change your shirt to RacistAnamerican.

Why do you think I am racist, ChangeGirl??

"How many troops should lose their lives looking for one man (or his corpse)?"

Yeah! Who needs justice? "Wanted dead or alive" (George W. Bush) were just words.

Anamerican, whatever do you mean by

"ChangeGirl, you need a new handle. How about ObamaBrownShirtGirl?"

Perhaps I misunderstood what you were saying.

Yeah! Who needs justice? "Wanted dead or alive" (George W. Bush) were just words.

True, he did say that. And he did send troops to look for him. And they backed him so far in a cave, he hasn't been spotted since. In essence, we have locked him up. He's just not in our custody.

I don't exactly warm to the notion that to take out one bad guy I've got to grease the 10 civilians he's hiding behind and write it off as the price of doing business. My tax dollars helped pay for that ordinance, so excuse me if I might want to have some say in the manner in which it's being used. The inescapable fact is that the boots on the ground necessary to get the job done in Afghanistan are occupied elsewhere as chess pieces to keep the Chinese from getting their hands on all that "free" Iraqi oil. They're still waiting for the chocolate & roses part of the program.

And it's no surprise the transparent howlers making hay about Obama's "reckless" statement concerning the conduct of the "war" in Afghanistan, are the same ones who sat up and beat their chests about him calling Palin a pig.

Again, may the parse be with you.

however, she'd have to get the queef stank dry cleaned out of it.

"Currently we have Bin Laden jailed in a cave...."

Is likely just another neocon wet dream. For years they were calling him dead, because they needed him to be.

I thought I saw Bin Laden having a pina colada at Trader Vic's the other night.

"In essence we have him (Bin Laden) locked-up...."

What horseshit, pardon my French. Geronimo is still in Arizona. Same nonsense we've seen these last eight years. In essence ye be crazy.

More likely Toaster's right, and that proverbial Trader Vic's is in a Riyadh compound.

Anamerican and company, wow!

You are actually even worse than one would think. And by the way, this is lame. When you run out of reasonable things to say you come out with the worse scum possible. Now, why does that sound familiar? Maybe because this is what right wing and company knows how to do best!

Just imagine what the world would look like if you would put that slimy brain to work for good instead for whatever it is you think you are doing!

I'm calling Bullshit-UNAmerican.
Yeah-Osama Been Forgotten WAS hiding in a cave-in Tora Bora-when dumbass stopped OUT Troops from going in after him-and had them turn the job over to locals-who were HIS buddies-and helped him get away-as georgie boy KNEW they would.
The Saudi Royals have told the moron NOT to catch Osama.

Throwing the capture of Bin Laden at Tora Bora at the last moment from our own troops to Afghans world famous for being willing to sell their own mothers for a new camel was one of the lowest points in the history of American warfare.

The last thing America needs to a rookie president making war in a country with little geopolitical value

But it was OK for georgie porgie to do it in Iraq?
If you get any stupider-your momma is gonna have to keep you in a flower pot and water you twice a week.
George ALREADY went into Afghanistan-remember?
then the dumb shit fake cowboy ALLOWED his old buddy Osama to get away. Just so he could divert Troops to Iraq-that had no strategic value-where he'd wanted to go in the first place.
Even LIED his useless ass off to send our troops in.

You have lost all credibility, UN-American-you're as much a shyster as YOUR president is.

"Currently we have Bin Laden jailed in a cave, he is unable to travel, he is unable to communicate but in the most rudimentary ways. We have him in the best place possible short of dead.

You're either revealing accurate, restricted information to which you have access---in which case, don't look now but the snatch team is coming through your door with a battering ram in four, three, two. . .---or you don't know and you're blowing it out your ass.

Your pick.

Obama's statement was made in order to show what happens when the army doesn't receive the support it needs. In other words, gets left in the middle of a shitberg like Afghanistan without sufficient or even adequate support.

I don't know - for someone who claims to be all kinds of religious, hasn't she missed a little something in the Bible that says "Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbor" or something of that nature? Seems, to me, if I remember correctly that appears in the Ten Commandments. Exodus: 23:1 "Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness." But maybe she forgot about that with all the concern she has about being attacked by witches.

Interesting opinion about this on Meet the Press today, that the McCain camp is reactionary and following the news cycle instead of creating the news cycle.

McCain is floundering about and is making Michael Dukakis look Presidential.

Does it really surprise anyone that Sarah Palin is regurgitatin' 1+ years old lies about Obama.

Cynical lowlifes, that's all they are and all they ever were.

I feel sorry for Palin. Whenever contacted by the press she is forced to defend her negative attacks, she can't get a positive message out. Not a good position for someone behind in the polls. To get out of their rut, they will have to win 80% of the un-decided vote, there's a better chance at winning the lottery.

It's ok to talk about McCains War record, but not to question a Democrate. Gee, what did I miss here. I spent 37 years in the Naval Reserves to protect freedom of speech and now I fine I not allow to talk about Lord Barack Obama. Is he the second coming....

What's the first thing either party does when they realize that they're in the tank?

They go negative.

We should be celebrating that the McCain campaign has taken this tact.

Remember the phrase "Never let'em see you sweat."

Well, McCain is sweating.

What are you talking about? Do you have a point? How about a link? A thought? Anything....?

98%? Are you referring to the combined votes of both Bush and Kerry? Even then I think Nader and other non major party candidates must have taken more then just 2%, but I do agree with your point.

That corporate leftwing media, whose owners are listed on Wall Street's Big Board, that gives us Coulter and Malkin, Sowells and Cal Thomas. Jeez, BLT, that's so refreshing a blast from the past. Sort of like Tommy Dorsey's Boogie Woogie. herm
