Solutions to the bailout's lessons learned

washtimes.com

I can't highlight pieces of this article because most of it is good.

John McCain's Actions are not Bipartisan, They are Bipolar

www.lp.org

No leadership in DC. If this bailout is an emergency, why does it have pork?

www.lp.org

Cubs suck.

Are you kidding? All bills have pork.

How great would it be to have the Dodgers and Red Sox in the World Series? Manny vs. his old team, Frank McCourt not knowing which team to root for....classic. And, those whiny Angels fans would finally shut the hell up and stop pretending to "claim" L.A.

Cubs suck.

#4 | Posted by JOE

Brewers too. Bush on the mound Saturday; series over.

Cubs Lose! Cubs Lose! Cubs Lose!

Hari Kari

Angels will roll the Sox.

Freeway series, baby. Scioscia will show the Dodgers how to win the Dodger way. Fuck, in a perfect world, Scioscia would be the Dodger manager.

California needs billions or they'll collapse.

Now, I can see bailing out States more than Wall Street. The Federal Gov't cannot allow a State to collapse.

Then, again, maybe another State will buy them out and there'll be 49 States left.

Break California into two states. Northern California would control the water. So Cal could keep all their money.

What? No debate stuff????

A Letter from Open Debates

www.drudge.com

Don't bother looking for this in the back page, it ain't there, I did not promote it there.

Now, even if you think third-party candidates are losers do you still support the idea of a private entity controling when, where, and how the debates are done and who participates? Shouldn't it be more transparent than the two campaigns signing some secret contract?

Pelosi is making another speech. Apparently the BOMB (Bush, Obama, McCain Bailout) is about explode. (No, I did not invent that, it was in a letter from the LP that I got a few days ago, but it's pointless to post it now).

Cubs are terrible. Go Soxs...Oh. Nevermind...

I was watching that hysterical hissy fit they call Olbermann last night and he asked Maddow why Palin won't go on his "newscast" and do a live interview.

Olbermann actually thinks his show is a newscast? I think somebody has gotten a little too big for his britches. Look for him to implode and lose yet another job.

blog.thehill.com

Under these circumstances, the only way the administration and the congressional leadership of both parties can hope to win is to play fast and loose with the Constitution. This bailout obviously is a big money bill, authorizing $700 billion worth of asset purchases and raising the debt ceiling to cover the necessary extra borrowing. Yet the Constitution clearly states: "All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives."

This provision means what it saysmoney bills are supposed to start in the House. As Alexander Hamilton explained in the Federalist 66, "to secure the equilibrium of the national House of Representatives, the plan of the convention has provided in its favor several important counterpoises," including "the exclusive privilege of originating money bills will belong to the House of Representatives." But the Senate has tossed the nation's founding document, which establishes the Senate, into the trash-bin. And House leaders evidently have no more respect for the traditional prerogatives of their own institution than for the Constitution.

[...]

When it comes to protecting the taxpayer, there is no difference between Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain. In fact, the latter, a self-proclaimed taxpayers' friend, has gone out of his way to disguise the fact he is voting for a pork-laden Wall Street bailout by calling the planwhich forces millions of average Americans who work for their salaries and pay their mortgages to bail-out a bunch of irresponsible borrowers, lenders, and investorsa "rescue."

C'mon the stupid bailout just passed! Isn't this news going to be up top?

Let's see what Europe does now

1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted "the exact same way" as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

2. AHMADINEJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, "Drill we must." But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to "raping" the Outer Continental Shelf."

I hope that Al-Qaeda-in-Wall-Street is happy now that they got their damn ransom money! Let's see if those credit markets start unfreezing now.

A couple of politically based "comedies" are coming out this weekend.
I wouldn't think of going to see either of these flops, but I will rent the Maher one when it hits video.

The other one looks to be the worst movie ever made.

Virginia Teachers: Too Blue For School?

voices.washingtonpost.com

When the Virginia Education Association, the state's 60,000-member teachers union, sent an email to members last week encouraging them to wear blue shirts on "Obama Blue Day," the union says it was merely trying to boost voter registration.

Hey congress you all suck especially Barney Frank...

Religulous sounds like a great movie!

Hey congress you all blow especially Barney Frank...

That's better.

1. PALIN: Said of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama: "94 times he voted to increase taxes or not support a tax reduction." FALSE

2. PALIN: "Two years ago, remember, it was John McCain who pushed so hard with the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform measures. He sounded that warning bell." FALSE

3. PALIN: Said the United States has reduced its troop level in Iraq to a number below where it was when the troop increase began in early 2007. FALSE

4. PALIN: Said Alaska is "building a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline, which is North America's largest and most expensive infrastructure project ever to flow those sources of energy into hungry markets." FALSE

5. PALIN: "Barack Obama even supported increasing taxes as late as last year for those families making only $42,000 a year." FALSE

Bill Maher is great.

"especially Barney Frank"

O'Reilly wasn't tough enough on Frak IMHO opinion, he deserved much more than that.

There may be a legal problem with soliciting votes in school, but I'm far more bothered by the moral violation, the idea that teachers would abuse their authority by putting even subtle pressure on kids to conform to the teacher's political preference.
That's almost as bad as using the classroom to spread one's own religion.

I'm sure the hacks (Danni et al) will be along shortly to condemn this.

"Barack Obama even supported increasing taxes as late as last year for those families making only $42,000 a year."

I'm glad that one is false. Otherwise, Obama would have actually endorsed a Republican-written law!

Just found this and thought it interesting:

Who Am I? I am under 45 years old. I love the outdoors, I hunt, I am a Republican reformer, I have taken on the Republican establishment, I have a spot on the national ticket with less than two years in the governor's office. Did you guess? I am Teddy Roosevelt in 1900.

AUDITION CALL!!!

Who Gets John's Part

"There may be a legal problem with soliciting votes in school, but I'm far more bothered by the moral violation, the idea that teachers would abuse their authority by putting even subtle pressure on kids to conform to the teacher's political preference."

I wonder if Cons think this same principle applies in church is said church has tax exempt status.

bailout passed!

Sounds like they're both full of shit. Big surprise:

Summary
Biden and Palin debated, and both mangled some facts.

Palin mistakenly claimed that troop levels in Iraq had returned to "pre-surge" levels. Levels are gradually coming down but current plans would have levels higher than pre-surge numbers through early next year, at least.

Biden incorrectly said "John McCain voted the exact same way" as Obama on a controversial troop funding bill. The two were actually on opposite sides.

Palin repeated a false claim that Obama once voted in favor of higher taxes on "families" making as little as $42,000 a year. He did not. The budget bill in question called for an increase only on singles making that amount, but a family of four would not have been affected unless they made at least $90,000 a year.

Biden wrongly claimed that McCain "voted the exact same way" as Obama on the budget bill that contained an increase on singles making as little as $42,000 a year. McCain voted against it. Biden was referring to an amendment that didn't address taxes at that income level.

Palin claimed McCain's health care plan would be "budget neutral," costing the government nothing. Independent budget experts estimate McCain's plan would cost tens of billions each year, though details are too fuzzy to allow for exact estimates.

Biden wrongly claimed that McCain had said "he wouldn't even sit down" with the government of Spain. Actually, McCain didn't reject a meeting, but simply refused to commit himself one way or the other during an interview.

Palin wrongly claimed that "millions of small businesses" would see tax increases under Obama's tax proposals. At most, several hundred thousand business owners would see increases.

For full details on these misstatements, and on additional factual disputes and dubious claims, please read on to the Analysis section.

Yes, I guessed, where is my Sarah Bear?

And speaking of Teddie, I thought the story was the New York political machine wanted to get rid of him so they sent him off to the vice-presidency. I wonder if corrupt Alaska Republicans are thinking the same, get rid of Palin and get the party started again.

I'd like to propose a toast to the saving of the American economy, but I can't afford a drink now that my money is worth less.

Try to answer honestly (if you noticed what I did)...Was Palins head that big or did they zoom in a little closer to her than they did Biden?

Please, no partisan takes if you can manage.

Here seekeroftruthh I just pulled this out of my ass along with post #12...

1. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it's passage.

2. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he's always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

3. ALTERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain's record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

4. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people's health insurance coverage they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

compared to the rest of their bodies, yes, her head is bigger.

Bush Presidency = a miserable failure. Rather than reducing the size of government and having a foreign policy, we attack countries that did not attack us and the government is massively intervening in the economy while the defecit and national debt goes through the roof.

It literally took up the whole screen. It's the first damn thing I noticed.
My wife claimed they did it to her because she was attractive and that a close-up like that of Biden would make people ill, but I just can't believe that whomever was in charge of the feed would allow something that blatantly different.

Religulous sounds like a great movie!

Agreed. Spud is loooking forward to going to see it.

The bit with the Jesus Impersonator from some theme park in Florida looks like a hoot.

Bill preaching Scientology gospel in Hyde Park in England and being looked upon as a total nutter made Spud chuckle when Bill played the clip on TDS the other night.

Do any of our Floridian DR folk know about this religulous theme park?

Wot's it called and has anybody ever been there?

Is it affiliated with the Creationism Museum?

Is it open on Sundays?

Be Well.

He's all for small government when it comes to taking care of our country.

All for big government when it benefits him and his buddies.

He's like the inverse of a centrist.

And Spud, if God is so powerful why doesn't he just wipe out the Devil?

The idea that people are pawns in a game between the Devil and God (with disasters, man-made and other wise to test faith) is just insane.

Will the States receive bailouts?

So is the idea that the creation of the universe was a random event. Pick your poison. The only "fact" in this discussion is that nobody knows. Those that "believe" have "faith". Those that do not "believe" have no "faith". Other than that, no undisputed evidence can be presented on either side to convince the other they are mistaken - agree to disagree situation.

Well, the Federal government bails out foreign countires, why not one our states?

Evil can never be wiped out entirely.

Without Evil there can be no choice, no Free Will.

Without Free Will the concept of "Good" becomes meaningless.

The idea that people are pawns in a game between the Devil and God (with disasters, man-made and other wise to test faith) is just insane

ANSWER: Sell Hollywood to China to stay afloat.

Why is the media ignoring the story that Fmr. Rep. Cynthia McKinney broke a few days ago regarding the 5,000 people who were executed by the U.S. Government when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans? Right-wing blogs have painted her as a nut or a kook, which is the typical GOP tactic of attacking the messenger rather than refuting the charge.

As a member of Congress, she knows a great deal of things that the public is not told. The story has been confirmed by independent sources, so what's the problem?

Because the corporate controlled media doesn't pay attention to third-party candidates. The so-called "journalist" are not doing their job, they only work for the duopoly.

ANSWER: She is a nut or a kook !!!

The story has been confirmed by independent sources so what's the problem?

Yet another example of a government run failure.

Other than that, no undisputed evidence can be presented on either side to convince the other they are mistaken

The idea that all societies in the history of humankind have invented one idea of God or another is an undisputed fact.

To one side it's proof that God exists.

To the other it's proof that Man made God and not vice versa.

Religion is a societal control mechanism.

One that's done much good and much harm over the years.

Used propperly it can be a force for moral change and that's a good thing. (Think of the Quaker's abolitionist movement or religious objections to the war in Vietnam and others)

Spud's biggest problem is when organised religion prevents society from progressing in it's moral evolution.

The sad fact of the matter is that organised fundamentaist faux Christianity is prolly the biggest single impediment to moral evolution that exists today.

The irony of that sad fact is overwhelming at times.

"We are all athiests. The only difference between me and you is that I believe in one less god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other versions of god then you will understand why I dismiss yours"

Prolly not an exact quote.

Spud is paraphrase.

When Judaism, Christianity and Islam first came into being, mankind was a wretched, ill-informed, ignorant group of folks. Today we know so much more that it makes no sense to cling to the failed and false logic of those dark days. That sed, there is some valuable wisdom in all of the worlds major religions. It's just kinda like a marshmallow hidden deep inside a cow patty.

/Extra Spudpoints fer anyone who knows where that last analogy came from.

5,000 people who were executed by the U.S. Government when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans?

Question: Why would 5,000 people chose of their own free will to stay in a geographical bowl below sea level surrounded by water and wait for a hurricane of biblical proportions...

PS: Backward assed fundy Islamicists in the ME and elsewhere are actually a far more immoral force than even the faux Christians on the right.

Spud was talking Western Industrialised World there.

Be Well.

Sarah Palin criticized John McCain's decision to pull campaign resources out of Michigan in an interview with FOX News on Friday, saying she and her husband Todd would "be happy" to campaign in the economically distraught battleground state.

But Palin said that when she read the news, she "fired off a quick e-mail and said, 'Oh come on, do we have to?'"

A very wise TV executive once told me that the key to TV is projecting through the screen. It's one of the keys to the success of, say, a Bill O'Reilly, who comes through the screen and grabs you by the throat. Palin too projects through the screen like crazy. I'm sure I'm not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. Are you Smart enough to be Vice President? Take the IQ Quiz Now!

John McCain's IQ = 138
Are you Smarter than the next President? Take the IQ Quiz Now!

Okay, let's have Obama's and Palin's IQs also.

Latest rumor: Obama was born in Kenya.

His paternal grandmother says that his father brought home a pregnant white woman, who was not well-received by his family because of her race. Obama's mama didn't like the way she was received or the manner in which Muslims treated women in Kenya. So, she tried to leave, but could not board the plane because of the state of her advanced pregnancy. Obama was born in Kenya.

A lawsuit has been filed demanding that Obama produce proof of American birth, and a magistrate has ordered production of such proof as a condition of Obama remaining on the ballot.

Would the Democrats substitute Number 2, Ms Hillary? How would she do as a late substitute for Obama against McCain-Palin?

Round and round and round she goes, and where she stops nobody knows.

Forget the Manchurian Candidate. How about the Kenyan Candidate? And domestic terrorist "Bomber Bill" Ayers has worked so hard to advance the career of Obama, Ayer's ideological protege, whom Ayers as a devout ideologue supports because he believes that Obama will advance his ideology.

We shall see what we shall see. Wouldn't Obama's disqualification on the basis of not being a native born American, be a trip?

With all of this talk off who was born were, I have an idea that Bush was born in a very hot nasty place were the attendants have tails. Just were this heavenly(?) spot is--I have been sworn to secrecy.
