Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, alarmed by the ongoing national financial crisis, warned Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson on Thursday that the state might need an emergency loan of as much as $7 billion from the federal government within weeks.

hmmmmm, and i would've thought they were one of the pork barrel projects written into this last "bailout" bill...or an earmark at least.

OoooH! Awnold needs a loan...
What a big girly-man he is....

But I thought the Governator was supposed to fix this! They got rid of Gray Davis because he was supposedly lousy and they replaced him with a faux republican from Hollywood.

If I remember correctly, one of the people running for Governor back then was a guy named McClintock. I would have voted for him had I live in California in 2003.

FF Jeff!

Yaaarrrghggg...
Kaliforneeeyah is going belly up and all
You know those economic things liberal girlie men talk about.
Looks like time for me to go fill some more fake potholes.
To de chawwppper!

~ The Governator.

BTW, Schartznegro is a nazi. His father was the top guy in the SS, and so was his step father. His mentor and best friend is Kurt Voldheim, another top Nazi.
The Bush family are Nazis. Prescott Bush had his assets seized for dealing with the enemy during WW2.
Another weird fact I just found out is that Karl Rowe's Grandfather was another top Nazi.

There all a bunch of Nazi scum.

The dog is belly up... Cha'laa holms!
Vatos Locos forever.....

"Schartznegro"

That is funny, seems appropriate since the official language of California es espanol. Might as well be anyways.

I heard a black comedian use it. I can't remember who. I think it was Sinbad?

No... It was the black guy in the Clint Eastwood movie Heartbreak Ridge.

in the not so distant past, californistan WAS considered the fourth LARGEST economy in THE world! all this AND the movie stars may be going on strike...as the stomach turns...

Everyone complains about CEO making millions of dolalrs, what about movie stars? Why is it that the only good rich people, according to Liberals, are Hollywood Liberal actors? If we bailout California let's put a cap on Hollywood actors' salaries!

"If we bailout California let's put a cap on Hollywood actors' salaries!"

The difference being Hollywood makes a profit.

Profits are evil according to Liberals, I learned that watching Hollywood movies.

"Profits are evil according to Liberals"

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Hollywood has billions rolling in from all over the world. The Gov. is doing this so he can drill for oil wherever he wants and to break the Mexicans. They'll go somewhere else if the state services dry up. California is going to be alright.

I did vote for McClintock. If he had won we wouldn't be in this mess today.

I have a great idea for a bail out! Lets take the 700 billion, and devide it up to every American over the age of 18.
That's about 700 billion devide by approx. 200 million.
How wuch is that? 200,000 dollar per person?
That would really boost the economy.

"How wuch is that? 200,000 dollar per person?"

No. It's about $3,500 a person.

"Everyone complains about CEO making millions of dolalrs, what about movie stars?"

What about sports stars? If a movie makes 300 million dollars, why not pay the start 20 mil? Results, my man, results. CEO's of bankrupt companies shouldn't be paid millions, because they failed. If a star's movies continually bomb, they won't be paid millions, I guarontee.

Try $3,500. Your calculator is off.

And you're only wrong by 99%.

I'm investing in Vernon Calculator stock. Sales seem to be booming.

Vern, if you'll send me your address, i'll go down to walmart and buy you a $.99 calculator and send it to you so i don't have to suffer through your math and then the inevitable corrections by your dear friends.

I was trying to recall the "Vernon calculator" to blame my math on. I couldn't remember who that was......Thanks.

wait that was jeffndenmark. that expains it, he was using european math. the same math they use with the euro.

What are you talking about???
I was referring only to California's fiscal budget mess, not the economic disaster our entire country is in.

A state budget is not the same as the U.S. federal budget.

McClintock was a Republican running for Governor against the fake Republican Governor Arnie.

ahnold is a kennedy. a kennedy who likes the thought of reagan.

A bailout for billionaires...

When will the homeless be compenstaed?

Brother, can you spare 7 billion dollars?

The state that likes to tell the rest of the country what they should do and how they should act and think can't handle their finances and wants the rest of the state's people to bail them out?

Well if Wall Street had their hand out and got 700B--what is a paultry 7B between Fed and State gov'ts??

McClintock is great! He'll run the next time--probably against Gaysome Newsome.

"Loaning" money to California would be like loaning money to those scumbags who defaulted in the sub prime mess. Might as well give it to Calchris or one of those idiot surfer boys.

Just out of curiosity, what wonderful things will Republicans do next time they control Congress and the Presidency and are given the awful gift of having the entire country and most of the world behind us (as in the wake of 9/11)?

Shoot dogs in the street for sport? Bankrupt the nation some more? Wreck the economy more? Borrow from China more? Divide the country more? Engage in senseless wars more?

All of this and more?

I had the 1978 Pumping Iron Calendar! lol

BETELG,

We probably won't see Republicans win any elections again in our lifetime because the Dems should be able to beat up on Bush for this depression like they did with Hoover. You got the ball, run with it. I'll enjoy just making fun of the girlish way you guys run.

Why not bail out California? Hasn't the Fed Gov bailed out foreign countries during their financial crises?

Another republican controlled economy needs a bailout?

Who'da thunk it?

there're alot of "d's" for it being a california republican controlled economy:

How come the 600 pound gorilla in the room is invisible? This is another problem created by government policies that were implemented as if they had no consequences.

Well, the "free lunch" available from the U.S. de facto "open door policy" admitting illegal aliens and enabling them to settle in California, now has demonstrated that it cannot be maintained and at the same time sustain the standard of living of American citizens.

How many millions of illegal aliens are now in California? What is the cost of their upkeep and maintenance?

More than half of the children in the public schools are Hispanic illegal aliens or the children of Hispanic illegal aliens. A significant number are not proficient English speakers and so require additional services at additional costs.

Medical services in California including but not limited to emergency room s are overwhelmed by Hispanic illegal aliens, who also utilize the MediCal programs. Even several years ago, a doctor I knew who worked at LACGH, a huge facility that serves indigents, told me that some 99% of the children born in the Women's Pavilion, were born to Hispanic illegal aliens.

Police, judical system, and correctional services, process and house large numbers of Hispanic illegal aliens.

This finanical situation afflicting California is due to policy decisions that welcomed illegal aliens to settle in California. The great majority of the illegal aliens are unskilled and semi-skilled workers, untrained, and who pushed out Americans in the same class and of the same ability that they were. So we have an oversupply of people in such a category.

It's the liberal policies that want to eliminate borders and welcome the world despite the burdens imposed on Americans that have created the financial debacle in California. "Cheap labor" is not cheap. These people are subsidized by other Americans as are their employers.

Has California Chris weighed in yet?

You lefties act as if these policies would not have any effect, but the open borders, loans to people unable to repay commanded by the government, and other such insane policies and practices have had a cumulative effect. Gosh, do you guys recognize the impact yet, and are you prepared to demand that your government take corrective action and abandon their past policies?

First, seal the borders. Next deport the illegal aliens. The "anchor baby" concept was established by case law, and the current situation is distinguishable from that of the people who acquired citizenship under the doctrine of jus soli. Deport illegal aliens. Deport their families as non-citizens. There will be an impact, but it will be a form of capital investment and the costs will be recaptured. Our policies were madness. They remain so.

Your retorts are most always thoughtful and relevant to the topic at hand johnson.

Sooooo the state that let's it's Gov. fly a jet to work everyday is hard pressed on their budget? The same state that's said Fuck You to ALL energy exploration/expansion? The same state that has runs a viscous spending deficit for years?

Although most states are looking at a huge problem with all their defined benefit plans promised to state and local employees, California's problem have been front and center for years.

"Why does California have a deficit?

Does anybody else think it's kind of weird that California has the eighth highest tax rate- actually increasing from below average in 1993 and average in 1996- in the nation, but still has a $15 billion deficit? Wouldn't you think that states with lower tax rates would have bigger deficits? "

"California is, by far, the wealthiest, most economically and geographically blessed state in the nation. If you could be king of any American state, wouldn't you choose California? You'd pick it over Texas, right?"

"Texas has the third lowest tax rate. Surely, they must have a worse education system: No, Texas, with a very similar ethnic composition to California, is ranked 25th while California is 47th.

In every economic indicator- unemployment (7.3% for California to 4.3 for Texas [and dropping!]), job growth, and fiscal soundness (Texas has a $4.7 billion dollar surplus!)- Texas is way ahead."

What about prop 58 which Arnold had passed in 2004??? The prop that says he MUST declare a fiscal emergency and have special powers to control spending!!!!.......

"the Balanced Budget Act, amended the California Constitution to require: (1) the enactment of a balanced state budget, (2) state budget reserve requirements, and (3) limits on future borrowing to finance state budget deficits."

"Prop 58 obliges the Governor to propose a possible solution to the legislature, the legislature then has 45 days in which to act to remedy the fiscal crisis, or they will be unable to conduct any legislative business."

So what happened arnold, why did you wait 4 years to try to control your budget??? Why are you NOW calling on the other 49 states to bail you out???? That is VERY unfair.

"You lefties act as if these policies would not have any effect, but the open borders, loans to people unable to repay commanded by the government, and other such insane policies and practices have had a cumulative effect."

What a fucking liar. Which president said "illegal aliens are just doing jobs Americans won't do" ????
Which president refused to protect our border at the behest of the conservative U.S. Chamber of Commerce???
Twist away fool but Labor has wanted tighter border control forever.

Also, I know you wont read it but, there is a good article posted on the back page that destroys your repitition of the right wing talking point that government forced lending institutions to make bad loans.

So, in the end, your rant is nothing but another repitition of dishonest talking points and you are just another fool who is incapable of independent thought.

I remember seeing that clip some time ago. The guy was a sexual beast back in the day.

While I wouldn't necessarily put the body builder's pump on a par with cumming - the pump is a great feeling. I'm sure others on the DR can attest to that.

Unfortunately for most of us as we age we're much more concerned with "going" than "cumming" so to speak. (prostate, regular BMs)

I am sure that someone has already reminded you that california is loaded with liberals in government
just like new orleans........THIS CANT BE SO..it HAS TO BE A LIE because when liberals run things.

its all perfect nirvana and shangri-la....
RIGHT????????????????

OOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!

and I seem to remember another LIBERAL STATE needing a bailout,..............NEW YORK perhaps or was THAT just the city itself

Nooooooooo!

Short answer.. California is spending itself into oblivion, and the rest of us that choose to elect more sane public officials should not be bailing them out.

Let em go bankrupt.. the rest of us will live through it.

This is one of those Pandora's Boxes that I was worried about, given this rescue package. Hard to cram the genie back into the bottle again, harder still to tell California that we're going to be helping Wells Fargo out of their Golden West investments, but not the State of California itself. Bad precedent, were we to agree.

I think you are pretty correct there nmg.......
even with the big bailout.........we are still going to be in recession and bad times for awhile but now we are going down with a socialist balloon..........

but things here in the damn ole stupid state of texas arent near as bad as almost anywhere else in the country.......
banks are okay.......that 10.6 BILLION surplus might have a dent in it but we will be better off than most even after the hurricane............

and I havent said anything about it since but look at the gas shortages in many parts of the country after IKE took out TEXAS refinaries and wells....
and just think about if some of your wishes about us seceeding were to come true........
texas, our texas...........

Look at the two most liberal states: California and NY. Can they stand by themselves? No they cannot afford the policies and giveaways that they have inacted...so who do they go to? The Feds. So I have to pay for the socialism in both states?

Now Obama is wanting to inact the same policy's for the US.

Who are WE going to go to once those policy's are in place?

Schwarzenegger for President.

"You lefties act as if these policies would not have any effect, but the open borders, loans to people unable to repay commanded by the government, and other such insane policies and practices have had a cumulative effect."

What a fucking liar.

Ah yes, moderation of the left. Unemotional analysis without gratuitous material added to obscure the issues.

Well Danni, I'd rather be a "fucking" liar than a "celibate" liar. But then, we righties are a fun loving group, who believe people should celebrate and enjoy life.

Which president said "illegal aliens are just doing jobs Americans won't do" ????
Which president refused to protect our border at the behest of the conservative U.S. Chamber of Commerce???

Oh Danni, are you suggesting that "conservatives" support open borders? I suggest that you review the rhetoric of the left that vehemently opposes "profiling" as "racist," and that opposes inquiry as to the citizenship and/or residency of job applicants, welfare applicants, public school studnets, and voters, as "racist," a word that mobilizes the left to oppose measures that would reduce the presence and participation of illegal aliens.

Now Danni, has the left mobilized to prevent exclusion of illegal aliens from work, education, welfare, and other benefits? Come on. Get real.

I have long opposed the exploitation of illegal aliens who are present here, and instead support their deportation. The other Americans are subsidizing fast food chains, the construction industry, and other such employers, who do not provide sufficient salary and benefits to maintain their workers. I support criminal and civil penalties against these employers, including incarceration and fines sufficient to discourage the practice. But that of course, would require "profiling" to identify the illegals.

Are you with those conservatives Danni, who want to profile and employ criminal and harsh civil penalties, and do you support the necessary profiling?

Twist away fool but Labor has wanted tighter border control forever.

Not really, Danni. Cesar Chavez at first opposed illegal immigration, but later on "la raza" and Chavez adopted pro illegal immigrant policies. Illegal immigrants provide the largest recrutiment groups and source of growth for unions in such trades as hotel workers, and janitors, and the garment industry with the Service Employees International Union, Unite Here, and garment workers unions in the vanguard. Get real, Danni and deal with the facts on the ground.

(cont.)

(cont.)

Also, I know you wont read it but, there is a good article posted on the back page that destroys your repitition of the right wing talking point that government forced lending institutions to make bad loans.

Danni, I did not assert that there was no avarice involved in exploiting the opportunity to make loans to unqualified buyers. Essentially commissions and overrides were paid up and down the line to real estate agents, mortgage brokers, and the like, and people in construction, securities dealers. The system provided incentives to proceed with the activity. What's your point? Oh? You're denying that Janet Reno, for example, coerced "community lending," threatened penalties for redlining, and otherwise forced the lenders to make uncreditworthy loans? Well with the law providing a market for the junk loans, why not? Read the legislation and enforcement directives, which threatened to exclude participation if the lenders did not comply. Fannie and Freddie anted up the cash for these loans then bundled into securities, which were to a large extent unsecurred paper, and sold them to willing buyers ... Well, you see what happened. By the way, I opposed the bailout.
So, in the end, your rant is nothing but another repitition of dishonest talking points and you are just another fool who is incapable of independent thought.

Thank you for your insightful evaluation, Danni. I recognize that the dynamics caused support for open borders up and down many political factions, each pursuing its own agenda.

But now that the fat is in the fire, Danni, do you support containing the damage, and mass deportation of illegal aliens? Or are you all bluster, and a person who will defend the illegal alien presence here.

Unfortunately, supporting the illegal alien presence is SOP for Biden, McCain and Obama. Its what Corporations want.

Official Government Policy of a majority of our politicians is fuck the little guy, help rich leaches.

The construct of this bailout is to save conartists who will return the favor to Paulson bigtime. When he leaves office shortly he'll get a hi faluttin appointment much like Phil Gramm's seat at USB Swiss Bank.

When all the dust and controversy settles, the underlying problem of an insufficiently prosperous population to support our inflated Real Estate prices will resurface. California is in worse shape than most and already has their hand out. At that point greedfucking conmen will be long gone with the $700 billion.

Why didn't Sanders, Kucinich or some other decent person filibuster this fucking disastrous bailout.

they're all too busy playing c.y.a. - the rubber has met the road and they know the old adage about not being able to fool all the people all of the time is coming to fruition. let them suck hind teat. glad to be out of that hell hole. i remember when it used to be chic to say "i'm a native californian", now however...

Unfortunately, supporting the illegal alien presence is SOP for Biden, McCain and Obama. Its what Corporations want...

True. The pollos have come home to roost.
Illegal aliens from Mexico, China, India, and parts of Latin America are a good part of the reason why California is in this budget meltdown. More than $9 billion of our money goes to support them every year. Probably much more now. California has very liberal socialist Democrat politicans, many of whom do the direct bidding of the government of Mexico.

People say "Oh, when the jobs are gone and we don't let employers hire them anymore they will go home." Are you kidding? If you have to be unemployed somewhere, where do you think you'd rather be -- back in your third world country unemployed or unemployed here in California getting free food stamps, Medi-Cal, Section 8 housing (which illegals take away from U.S. citizens who are military veterans, the elderly, etc.) and all the other perks they'd never get back in their own countries. So employed or not, they won't leave and we'll have to keep on supporting them.

As far as the liberal Dems on here who whine and accuse us in California of being racist because, as they say, the poor illegals "only want to come here and get a job to feed their families" -- well, hell, so does all of India, Southeast Asia, China, and all of Latin America. EVERYONE wants to come here to the U.S.

So to those radical open border liberals in the rest of the United States (including those here on DR) who whine scream "racist" and all the rest of their crap at Californians whenever we asked that our borders be protected, that we get the damn fence built, and that our immigration laws be respected and obeyed -- well, now YOU all get to pay for it 'cause you'll have to now send us some of YOUR federal tax money to help bail us out.

California never receives equal amount of federal money back for the amount of money it sends to DC. Not only that, but there are many instances where the liberal Democrats in California have told the U.S. government that if the U.S. government won't pay for illegal aliens to be allowed in certain federal programs here in our state then California will allow the illegals to participate anyway and California will pay for them. We have paid for them and now our budget is broke.

Any of you fools who think any state in this nation can absorb millions and millions of illlegal aliens from third world countries -- the majority of whom come here with no education, no job skills, and don't even speak the language and not eventually have economic collapse -- then you're total idiots.

So now you liberal pro-open border, pro-illegal alien Democrats get to pay. Send us ALL your tax money. Governor Arnie needs a bailout big time.

Or maybe the ones who whine the loudest about my state not taking in enough illegal aliens -- the Canadians on here -- can send us down about $30 Billion Canadian dollars to help us out. After all, Canadians were the ones who constantly accused us on here of not wanting illegals to come into our country yet would allow no illegals into their own country. About time the Canadians put their money where their mouth is? Eh?

California never receives equal amount of federal money back for the amount of money it sends to DC

CalifChris

Thank Ronald Reagan. That was his move to reduce payments from the fed back to states.
