CALIFCHRIS -
"Do you think McCain might be having second thoughts about running?"
I have no difficulty imagining he's having second thoughts about getting ass-kicked all around the electoral map. I mean, he did exactly what the Rovians told him to do---odd, considering how they maligned him when he ran against Bush---and it's turning to ashes before his eyes.
"Or could this have been a set-up all along to where McCain will back out of the campaign at the last minute and then somebody waiting in the wings will rush in to "save the Republicans' chances for the White House>?"
Too late.
"That this move might have been in the plans all along? A lot of people on the right are very puzzled."
I'll be they are. I'm not on the right---sooprise!---but I'm puzzled, too I mean, McCain doesn't seem to have a clue what's going on with his campaign---if you can call if that---and no idea how to fix it. His testiness seems to me to be an outward manifestation of inner turmoil.
If he thought he could get away with it---and he can't---he'd be dumping Sarah Palin over the side about now, yammering how she's demonstrating good 'ol "Country First" spirit for the sake of the Republic.
He'll probably try the Ayres, Wright lobs but I'd be surprised if anyone not already in the tank buys it.
In the words of old James "Snake Eyes" Carville: "It's the economy, stupid." The economy is not an issue McCain has a chance in hell of turning his way. Think back on his erratic behavior coming up to the first vote: on-off-on campaign, wanting to postpone the debate, then not wanting ot postpone the debate, saying he'd clinched a deal and then watching it go down in a fireball in the House. Sheesh.
How would you feel if you'd been in Congress for over a quarter-century and Barack Obama was standing in the way of your last chance for the brass ring?
What think you, Chris?
