Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
gonna grab some afternoon delight.
My motto's always been; when it's right, it's right.
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night.
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day.
And you know the night is always gonna be there any way.

Stopped quick to give the Rev a hand
Muffled screams from my Chevy van
And that's all right with me

A misandrist New York judge dismises Roy Den Hollander's lawsuit against the scummy club owners and their discrimantory and odious practice of "Ladies' Night."

ap.google.com

"NEW YORK (AP) It's closing time for a lawsuit alleging ladies' nights at nightclubs discriminate against men. Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum tossed the lawsuit out of federal court in Manhattan on Monday. She said nightclubs can price their products as they wish because they're not acting as representatives of the state."

They are not acting of representatives of the state? Does that mean that club owners could have a sign reading "Coloreds served in the back", could club owners decide to disobey smoking bans?

Why is the market calm?

Shouldn't it be falling apart every day until the Congress fixes it?

Open letter to Bill Gates-

Some months ago I wrote you about donating one of your billions to the best cause I can see. You have had more than enough time to write a check and send it to me. My patience has limits. However i will be magnanimous and allow you more time. Please expedite as this money is really needed.

Than you Mr. Gates and hurry up!

bailout marxian? who knew?!?

"Why is the market calm?"

And if the end of the world is coming, why is congress adjourned due to the Jewish Holidays?

Do you believe that even the Israeli parliament would adjourn for Jewish Holidays if Israel was suffering a financial crisis or there was threat of imminent war? This is a secular country damn it! If Jewish members of congress want to go home and celebrate their holiay, fine, but don't shut down the entire congress if supposedly the end of the world is coming, no one will believe it. It goes to credibility.

"I hate free speech. When I am elected president I will make sure that anyone who says bad stuff about me goes to jail. I am Barack Obama and I approved his message because I want to squash opposition views."

At least congress is living up to it's 10% approval rating, the other 90% seem to be irritated that congress lies cheats and steals and feel they have been buttlerized by their own representatives. The only one I have any respect for at the moment is OH PUKE Nancy Pelosie for making sure the bullshit bill went down in flames. I thought the entire global economy was supposed to shut down today what happened ?

As for Leewater being post #1 the song should be TOO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS...

Because it isn't a bailout. It's the biggest heist of all time. The powers that be are taking one last shot at the treasury before the next group can get at it.

I said that yesterday on the bailout thread, member. But I'm a pariah here these days.

I thought the entire global economy was supposed to shut down today what happened ?

The European Central Bank lent banks 190 billion euros, or $273 billion, for a weeklong period after initially estimating that it needed to drain 40 billion euros from the system. It also lent banks $30 billion for one day at a marginal rate of 11 percent, almost six times the Fed's 2 percent benchmark interest rate. The Bank of Japan pumped another $29 billion into credit markets, its third intervention of this scale since the collapse of Lehman Brothers earlier this month.

Pushed through a ban to keep OSHA from issuing standards and ergonomic guidelines, thus making it more difficult for hard working Americans to get treatment for this painful work related injury.
Repealed the Clinton Administration's drinking water regulation, thus allowing the level of arsenic in drinking water to remain at its high level.
Put forward a tax-break-for-the-rich scheme while touting it as a cure for the poor economyan economy he and his henchmen keep harping on, thus trying to fool Americans into thinking this scheme is the only answer.
Has suspended the black listing regulation regarding the awarding of government contracts to builders.
Spent the surplus and bankrupted the treasury.

The European Central Bank lent banks 190 billion euros, or $273 billion.
The Bank of Japan pumped another $29 billion into credit markets.

Instead of raping the taxpayers again or raiding the treasury there must be another alternative, remember these congressional representatives are PROFESSIONAL thief's and crooks certainly they can pull something out of their collective @sses and steal the money from someone else like maybe Europe or Japan just lie on the loan application like everyone else did and leave them holding the bag.

nappyheadedho, you are channeling lipzoidial.

Today's RCP average has Obama up by 5.1 %. That's an 8 point drop since Mcsame chose saint sarah and rode to the rescue in DC.

Suck it up, President Obama is almost in the House.

PS Obama up in Florida and Pennsylvania-I gues caribou barbies 3 votes were more important than either crist's 27 or Ridge's 21.

As the November elections approach, lawmakers from both parties are under intense scrutiny -- and many were nervous about voting for a plan that risks so much taxpayer money without any definitive promise of success.

In the end, there were 205 votes cast in favor of the legislation and 228 against. Among Democrats, 140 voted in favor and 95 against. Among Republicans, 65 voted in favor and 133 against.

According to new analysis, banks and securities firms gave an average of 54% more over the past five years in campaign contributions to representatives who voted in favor of the rescue plan than to those who opposed it.

That analysis, from MAPLight.org, an online watchdog for the impact of political contributions on legislation, showed that representatives who voted for the plan received an average of $231,877, compared with $150,982 for those who voted against it.

Among Democrats, those in favor of the plan received an average of $212,700 each, almost twice the average of $107,993 for those who voted against it. Among Republicans, those who voted in favor received an average of $273,181 each -- 50% more than $181,688 for those who voted against the plan.

Time for you all to do some civic duty here, folks --

All of us debating the bailout bill grand theft scheme here on DR means squat.

Get on the phone and call your Congressperson.

I call my Senator two days ago and today called Congressman Adam Schiff to say what I thought about Bush's bailout scheme. (##$@&$&!!!### -- no, I was polite. lol) His office told me had had already voted "No" on the bailout bill. I told them I was glad to hear it.

YOU NEED TO DO THIS. Because the election is so close they are finally listening to the voters.

Most American voters in both parties do not want this scam bailout to go through.

I looked up a website for you so you all could get the phone number of your local Congressperson and linked it at the end. The website said they were getting 100 hits PER MINUTE yesterday from people wanting to get phone numbers to call their Congressman.

Call and tell your Congressman/woman to vote "NO" on the bailout bill and if they tell you they already voted "No" then thank them for making the right decision.

Pelosi intends to bring the bailout bill back tomorrow when they get back to Congress. CALL TODAY!

We can see by the stock market up over 200 points today that Bush's whining about an economic Armageddon was a bunch of bull. Let Wall Street take out loans if they need money to get thru for awhile. I don't intend to just hand them over $700 billion of our tax money.

Get off your butts and call your own Congressperson -- particularly the House member.

If you have never called their office before, don't be intimidated. You'll just get a staffperson and they'll ask your name and address and then just tell them:

"I am a registered voter who lives in Congressman __(name)_____'s district. I am not with any special interest group. I want to tell Congressman _(name)____ that I am very much against Bush's bailout bill being proposed -- in any form -- and I want him to please vote "NO" on the bailout bill. The bill should be scrapped entirely and is an insult to every taxpaying American."

Or -- say whatever you want.

Question for you accounting types:

What is "mark to market" ?

Holy crap! This bailout has certainly created some strange associations. I usually view you as a something of a psychopath, Lip :-), but welcome to the anti-bailout couch, comrade.

Kerrin, excellent speech. Now there is a Repub I could get on board with, depending on his other views.

It seems to me that accountants are worse than lawyers when it comes to lying and cooking up the books. I don't think this silly mark to market rule cause the problem and if they suspend mark to market accounting, balance sheets will look better than they actually are, which is how we got into this mess in the first place, people thought stuff was worth more than it actually was. I say don't suspend this mark to market stuff, mark to maturity accounting seems misleading to me, from what little I know about accounting.

I'm already riding one dump for a jovial homosexual inference.

And the pitch... it's a slow, arching lob over the plate.

Kerrin great speech!

Apparently this was part of the problem

www.nowpublic.com

Nappy swings and.......

"Assets would be valued more realisticly" ?

But I thought the market price is the realistic value!

It seems strange to me that a little accounting change could save us the $700B, it's a silver bullet type of thing if you ask me.

My congressman voted No but I think tomorrow I will be able to say that he voted No before he voted yes. To that end don't believe anything any congressman tells you, remember these are professional crooks and liars. If you want real action keep my new hero (OH PUKE) Nancy Pelosie pissed off and making partisan speeches every day to make sure this Bullshit Bill does not pass...

And I don't believe in silver bullets and magic wands. If the problem was so simple to solve, why didn't those bright people call for the change a year ago, or six months ago when Bear Sterns went down?

Pelosi is an idiot. She wanted half of the GOP vote to give her political cover and then she does a sutpid thing like giving a political speech. It's as if she purposely torpedoed the whole thing. Who knows, maybe she is against the bill and that is the only way she could make sure it didn't pass.

ANSWER: Our congressional representatives had not yet finished pilfering the economy and needed more time to finish Buttlerizing taxpayers.

Looks like the same bill that was proposed yesterday is going to get through the House on Thursday. I think those in Congress realized what happened yesterday is just the tip of the iceberg, and realize that the plan in necessary to protect this country.

I usually view you as a something of a psychopath, Lip :-)

Is this your way of saying, how could I be for Obama but not for the Bailout, since he is obviously pushing it? I suppose it has escaped your attention, but McSame is for it too.

I don't feel the need to walk in lockstep with any individual or party. I will never agree 100% with any politician.

I only agree with constitutional principles 100%.

I will not support nor will I vote for anyone suppoting the Bullshit Bill including McCain...

Many people are now figuring out that the con artists on Wall Street are not The Economy.

The people who work, doctors, small business owners, ditch diggers are the real economy.

All the Wall Street gang has done is misappropriate the hard-earned money of others and give themselves big going away presents.

Now they want a bail out. How about a bail out for Main Street for a change.

" will not support nor will I vote "

I am also getting fed up again. I did not want Mac...but feel I had to vote against Obama.
I am going to take a wait and see right up to the DAY. If it looks like Mac is going to get creamed...I am voting libertarian.

Why is the market calm? Shouldn't it be falling apart every day until the Congress fixes it?
-- #5 | Posted by Petrous

Calm? It's up 485 points -- eliminating almost 2/3 of what it lost yesterday.

Where's Corky? I've decided it's really fun to call people hysterical pants-pissers.

Nerdy aside: Bob Lucas, one of the Nobel laureates opposing the bailout, is famous for what's called "rational expectations" theory. I'm skipping details that would make it clear why it's Nobel-worthy, but it includes the idea that markets react to expectations, not reality. So it's quite possible the market is back up not because buyers/sellers think the bailout is unnecessary, but because they have become convinced it will happen.

It's also possible that they're reassured by Bernanke's moves yesterday:

Even before the House stunned the world on Monday by rejecting the Bush administration's bailout bill, the Fed was already resorting to the oldest action in its book: printing money.

With money markets around the world seizing in fear, the Fed on Monday announced that it would provide an extra $150 billion through an emergency lending program for banks, and an additional $330 billion through so-called swap lines with foreign central banks to help money markets from Europe to Asia. www.nytimes.com

Another possibility is that people are reassured because yesterday's drop was not nearly as bad as people expected after Treasury's ominous warnings over the weekend.

And, as you suggested, it's possible they've decided things are really not as bad as Paulson and Bernanke say they are.

That's one of the things that's so fun about the stock market -- short-term prices are heavily influenced by traders' beliefs. So any number of people who really have no clue what they're talking about can stand in front of a camera and offer plausible explanations, and no one can be sure they're wrong.

Hey look, the banks didn't get their bail out and the market didn't dive, you mean those elites who caused the dive yesterday were just trying to scare congress? You mean they had to jump back into the market to try and get what they lost back.

Make it stop...

COURIC: And when it comes to establishing, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and understand the world?

PALIN: I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.

COURIC: Like what ones specifically?

PALIN: Umm all of them. Any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.

COURIC: Can you name any of them?

PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news

www.crooksandliars.com

Movie in link. Katie Couric makes palin look stupid for the 4th(5th?) time.

Yes, Katie sure did a number on palin, the question is to what end.

Who gives a fuck what paper palin reads.
Who gives a fuck what channel on TV she watches.

Katie, where do YOU get your news.....oh, CBS so shall we expect more Dan the man Rather out of you, focusing on all those important American country questions like......What news source do you read?

A real Walter Cronkite Katie is.

40 years from now.

The real national interest for American politics came from Katie Couric and the question of what source of news is read by the politicians.

And that's the way it was in 2008, America that did not care about actual problems.

If the market tanks and loses another 2000 points, it's preferable to the consequences of the $700 billion ripoff that they are trying to pull off.

The Wall Street slicksters packaged mortgages with little value and misrepresented them. Oh yes, Fannie and Freddie were involved in the ripoff.

This country has been crucified and tied in knots creating attitudes and instruments to advance specific sectors of the population and in the process has caused an imbalance that has redounded to the detriment of most of us.

Like the tulip madness and St. Vitus Dance, the time has come to be realistic and readjust our approach in this country to dispense with favoritism and other policies which distort the operation of this great country that it has tied itself in knots and impeded its functioning.

Wow just wow.
