Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

There's more embarrassing footage yet to air from Katie Couric's interview with Sarah Palin that involves a discussion of the Supreme Court. "After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases," Politico reports. "There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence."

Though I'd bet many pols can't name many other cases you would think she'd at least remember Brown vs. Board of Education. She seems very isolated.

Miranda?

Marbury vs Mason?

Dred Scott?

Bush vs Gore?

Marbury vs Mason?

Not enough "????????" in that one.

Marbury v. Madison, 5 U.S. (1 Cranch) 137 (1803)

Bush v. Gore.

How could anyone ever forget that mess? These past 8 years have worked out so wonderful with a coked out dry drunk in charge now haven't they?

oz,you are kidding right? that is one of the top 5 most important decision the SCOTUS has ever made.

any semi-literate politico knows it by heart.

It is the basis of the SC. It allows the SC to review Congressional laws!

oz,you are kidding right?

The "???????" were because you wrote Mason instead of Madison. So yeah, I was just yanking your chain.

ahhhh

just having a Palin moment.

Brown vs Kansas BOE, 1954

How about Sanhedrin & Rome v. Jesus H. Christ?
That one didn't turn out too well, did it?
See, I think that was more judges legislating from the bench.
They spend too much time at the bar anyway, dontcha think?
Yup.

"The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe,"

Yeah, how dare they do their jobs and reveal Palin's utter incompetence to the world. Damned liberal media...

It's actually infuriating to me that they DIDN'T include it. She's completely clueless and the more this is demonstrated, the better.

Where in the hell is Fernando Poo?

.... and, although he had been impotent with his wife for nearly ten years now, he generally achieved orgasm in the mouth of a skilled prostitute within 1.5 minutes. He took amphetamine pep pills to keep going on his grueling twenty-hour day, with the result that his vision of the world was somewhat skewed in a paranoid direction, and he took tranquilizers to keep from worrying too much, with the result that his detachment sometimes bordered on the schizophrenic; but most of the time his innate shrewdness gave him a fingernail grip on reality. In short, he was much like the rulers of Russia and China.

Fer frank's sake... She was the Governor of Alaska and the wife of an Alaska fisherman when Exxon v Baker (Valdez oil spill compensation) was decided this year.

Heller v DC?

Kelo v New London?

Haley v. United States; Haley 7, United States nothing.

"The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe" ...

How dumb are McCain staffers? TV interviewers leak excerpts ahead of time to draw ratings. Palin's ignorance is ratings gold.

Palin: "Ali vs Frazier?"

Let me guess - us - Roe v Wade? Ah, but does she know what it was about or does she think it refers to salmon fishing rights?

QCP

That's Headley!

Since she is Gov. of Alaska you'd think she would at least know about current court cases involving her own state....Baker vs. Exxon.
I would have to say that her ignorance about that case indicates that she is not competent to be Governor much less VP.

I like how everyone is using this thread to showcase their vast knowledge of the US Supreme Court. As if being able to name a few cases says anything at all about you. Granted, I don't think Palin has any qualifications when it comes to the legal field, but naming cases doesn't frequently cross my mind as something that'd ever come up in a job interview.

With all due respect Joe, if you ever run for vp, brush up on this shit. Unless it's vp of the local PTA.

btw, you could have ended your sentence at "i don't think palin has any qualifications". Period. She's a fundy loon and an embarrassment to your party, to your country.

BTW Baker vs. Exxon is not some obscure case, it's the case about the Exxon Valdeez and there are billions of dollars at stake. The chief executive of the state should be very aware of it.

The Shadow of the Pitchfork: Elite Panic Attack as Bailout Goes Bust

The vote by the House of Representatives to defeat the Wall Street bailout plan is the first act of political courage that the Congress of the United States has mounted in the last seven years. The fact that it was due largely to right-wing Republicans afraid of going down with the sinking ship of the witless leader they have followed blindly throughout his reign is a delicious irony -- but the whys and wherefores of the vote are not important.

Oh, I forgot to mention, that case will be heard by the SC this year, the accident happened long ago but Exxon is still appealing and appealing to try and reduce the damages. The poor company might have to spend as much as one month's profit to pay the damage awards.

I just read a story that Palin is at a GOP "boot camp" until Wednesday, cramming for the debate. She will not absorb much of it, rest assured. This is going to the best thing since the Sopranos finale. I'm buying alcohol and chips, for certain. Who says there's nothing good on TV any more?

Obama taught CONSTITUTIONAL law for many years. I bet not only could he list a bunch of cases but could probably discuss the case law. He could probably list the Supremes greatest hits. (mine was "you keep me hangin on) But he still can't see Canada from Illinios.

The Obama team missed an opportunity: too late now --- Palin should have been praised as a rock star with rotating pictures of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

Hehehehe......

My favorite story therein is from Book of Hu ~ written 1596 called:

"The Sultan Who became an Exile" page 37

The Sultan could not possibly bring himself to believe a word of this. He started to give the order for the beheading of the sheikh. Perceiving by inner sense that this was to happen, the sheikh exercised the capacity called Ilm el-Ghaibat: The Science of Absence. This cause him to be instantly and corporeally transported to Damascus, many day's distance away.

Ah, what a pleasure to have a true government outsider running for VP. Like we need another desk jockey lawyer who can spout legal precedent, past policy, present policy, future policy and the cell phone number of every lobbyist in DC.

With all of Biden's so-called experience and background, how can you explain how he is so often wrong? It's a thing called judgment, of which he is sorely lacking. There are more than enough lawyers and policy wonks in the White House staff to take care of such matters, and to then leave the leaders to lead.

But add 'em up: Obama and Biden have made more unforced errors than Palen, and with Palen the in-the-tank press has been playing "gotcha" with her from the beginning.

Talk about idiots here, even the lefty looneys are bashing her character over what, a nothing thing that bars no issue.

Get a clue.

#77 | Posted by moneywar

why don't you?

why don't you?

OK, please tell us why it is so very very important that Palin should name supreme court cases. I am all in for getting a clue.

It is so important because those supreme court cases always and I stress more than 90% of the time always get over turned ............. right.

Dumb, just stupid bashing for no good reason for political gain of idiocy.

In fact if this idiocy keeps up and this focus keeps things away from the issue I think palin and mccain would be a good vote because I would not expect the democratic party to be smart enough to actually contend and address the issue that are of importance.

People are funny, we all know palin is green, but the stupid slamming that keeps going and going makes me believe she might be just what is needed in the white house.

Palin is looking better and better in my eyes, if the democratic party has to focus so much energy at such idiocy then maybe just maybe she is better than what appears.

Bashing her about naming supreme court cases? What a fucking joke.

Maybe if Obama got off his high horse ass and started naming all those supreme court cases that were ruled upon protecting the American peoples money from the lending institutions we wouldn't be in this mess.

Obama is the lazy ass bastard here, why...because apparently to you dweebs HE KNOWS THEM.

Bani,

You done got my ire up.

Name one time when OBAMA names supreme court cases because he was asked. Name one and why the question was even asked in the first place.

Oh, maybe because Obama and this liberal media is handling obama with kid gloves, don't want him to stumble to much now do we.

Bashing her about naming supreme court cases? What a fucking joke.

I'm not bashing her ~ just observing...

Do I think she's qualified.

No.

I sincerely believe the election has already been decided by the big boys...but like ivory soap, it's not ever 100% certain until Nov sometime perhaps.

Perhaps, too, that's why McCain wouldn't look much at Obama during the debate...he's angry that he has look good while losing fairly ~ so tried a hail Mary by getting Palin in vp spot, since he was told Lieberman couldn't run as vp.

ps speaking of jokes:>)

Bani,

Just by making the observation in the way this thread has toned it makes it a character bash to say the least.

You and I are very close in our political thinking but when I see excessive piling on I am going to call it out.

Did you know Obama picks his nose and eats it just before going on camera for good luck

not really but lets focus on those really important things.

Ah, the vagaries of SAD (Sarah's Awful Defenders).

First they sputter that Sarah does too know shit. When that turns out a lie, they suggest it's not important to know shit. Then this position doesn't fly either, and they'd try to suggest that this Harvard magna cum laude law review editor and instructor is just as bad. Hang it up, guys. The lipsticked pig gets few leers. herm

"Did you know Obama picks his nose and eats it just before going on camera for good luck"

I stop eating it when I got converted to Christianity for 2 weeks when I was 10 at YMCA camp up in northern Minnesota

**** " in-the-tank press has been playing "gotcha" with her from the beginning."

Yeah...it's not her answers, it's the meanies' questions!!! ****

Yes, the issue is the questions. Rather than the softballs and cues for soundbites that the other side gets almost universally, Palin is treated to a nonstop game of Trivial Pursuit - Government Edition. You could say that both types of questioning are equally useless. The Lib-on-Lib questioning just evades anything probing and gives them a platform for the same old party line. Nothing new here, move on. And the Gotcha Squad, afraid that Palin may say something to make her an even more attractive candidate, fixate on asking more and more trivial questions, trying to embarrass her.

The underlying goal of the MSM is to keep the people from knowing their candidate, which will make them lose, and from knowing the opposing candidate, which will make them win.

"Palin is treated to a nonstop game of Trivial Pursuit - Government Edition. "

Well, it would help her cause if she would earn a pie now and then.

Or is her proximity to Russia the best we can hope for?

Money- she could have said "time" "newsweek" the Ap wire on the net.

Yes, and being the good democrat clown in pouncing mode would have shown how those sights are bad and against the helping of the country.

It was a loaded questions with no correct anwer and the fact that her silence to this is being a character bash on her explains the real issue. Nothing she could say would get her left alone.

First Supreme Court case I would have named was the worse one to ever be decided by that court --

Kelo v. City of London

That was the case which gave the right of eminent domain to any government entity to take your home and give it away to any private developer or private business simply because they would be paying more property tax than you would.

Worst case ever!

It was a loaded questions

No, it wasn't. Jesus. She could have picked a number of bland or popular magazines/newspapers.

Alexandrite-
re: What magazine did you read that in, murphy? : )

oh, ya know, all the ones that were in front of me whenever I was waitin' for a root canal or goin' in for a checkup. I skip the "Highlights" magazine 'cause that's for the kids, but ya' know "Sailing Today", "Cigar Aficinado", "Golf".

Palin is looking better and better in my eyes, if the democratic party has to focus so much energy at such idiocy then maybe just maybe she is better than what appears.
Bashing her about naming supreme court cases? What a fucking joke.

She's running for VP - of the Executive Branch. The Executive Branch isn't about "executive" experience of the kind of a Governor, it's about executing the laws of the United States. A basic knowledge of Supreme Court rulings that have shaped the very fabric of this land is important. Certainly given the current state of our Nation.

I don't know how much more of a softball question you could ask. I can't imagine her being asked to voice an opinion on Hamdan v Rumsfeld. This, to me, is a bit of insight into what Palin holds as important. What has she spent her time studying and understanding? Since we have so little to go on, there's little to do but fish in areas relevant to the office for which she's competing.

The one she comes up with - Roe V Wade?

"Even in "Hollywood", conservatives are not employed."

Brothers & Sisters Kitty Walker Conservartive
Frasier Kelsey Grammar Conservartive
Magnum PI Tom Selleck Conservative
many more

Here's why she only named roe v wade.

No, it wasn't. Jesus. She could have picked a number of bland or popular magazines/newspapers.

Yes, and you are not getting it, but you would be the first to be ripping her up for choosing thos bland or popular mags/papers.

Loaded question which has nothing of value but to do some more character bashing.

Just look at YAV's post and the question was loaded again. If she didn't focus on what the democrats thought was important then the bashing begins again.

Mean while, none of this has to do with us moving in the proper direction of fixing this nation.

but you would be the first to be ripping her up for choosing thos bland or popular mags/papers.

No, I wouldn't...there's plenty of other things to pick on her for. For christ sake, she got a degree in journalism and she can't name ONE magazine she reads? Is she really THAT MUCH of a deer in headlines while being interviews by KATIE COURIC? Yes, moneywar...let's give her the nuke codes!

Mean while, none of this has to do with us moving in the proper direction of fixing this nation.

Not electing McCain would help. And palin is an excellent example of his poor judgment.

Palin is looking better and better in my eyes, if the democratic party has to focus so much energy at such idiocy then maybe just maybe she is better than what appears.

If Palin is looking "better and better" then why in the last few days have some very conservative Republican columnists and spokesman expressed they are very worried about her staying on the ticket?

One even suggested it would be best if Sarah would do the party a favor and play the old political "bow out with grace" card by saying she needs "to spend more time with my family." That excuse will definitely be believable in her case.

MW doesn't like dems...

a full house of 'em are a scary thought...

look what a full house of Reputhugs did

No, I wouldn't...there's plenty of other things to pick on her for. For christ sake, she got a degree in journalism and she can't name ONE magazine she reads?

She could pick out plenty but none of her answers would stop the slashing so why say any at all.

Oh, so you guys didn't like the idea of the useless bait bashing so we'll just bash her reluctance to name one in the mask that she doesn't read any.

Nice but I am above that.

but none of her answers would stop the slashing so why say any at all.

None of anyone answers on anything stop people from picking on them.

So should all politicians just stop answering any and all questions?

Just look at YAV's post and the question was loaded again. If she didn't focus on what the democrats thought was important then the bashing begins again.

You know Couric's a Democrat? Democrats came up with the interview questions?

Look, she failed on a simple question. She's failed on why seeing Russia from her porch gives her "foreign policy experience." She's failed on many things in her interviews.

The good news for McCain is expectations aren't high for her in the debate. She'll easily exceed those expectations IMHO.

That won't mean she's even benignly qualified to be POTUS should McCain's term end early. I'm watching all this seeing if she has the capacity to soak up knowledge she'll need should that occur.

I have little doubt that her role as VP would be nothing like Cheney's.

If Palin is looking "better and better" then why in the last few days have some very conservative Republican columnists and spokesman expressed they are very worried about her staying on the ticket?

I don't give a shit what republicans think, but I am seeing that little palin is learning the set up game and bait and switch to slash her character by these lefty looneys and has decided to not give anything.

So now all you can rhetorically and pejorically bash is she is .............. what........slow to respond.

The bait switch will probably earn Katie to never ever have palin again, palin will tell katie to pack sand.

In some ways I almost feel sorry for Sarah Palin.

She is in waaaaay over her head, I believe she was singled out to be "used" by the McCain campaign and is afraid to back out even if deep down inside her heart that is what she'd really like to do but is afraid to say it.

Sarah Palin has made her place in history. If she bowed out now she still would have many chances for a strong political position in other areas. It's just that VP is way too important to mess around with taking a chance on someone definitely not qualified for the job. And America shudders to think what would happen if McCain kicks the bucket should he be elected and she's then President.

Let Sarah bow out gracefully "due to family pressures and needs at home" and come back next year and get a cushy ambassador's job somewhere. McCain at least owes her that much after probably telling her she neededn't worry and that handling the VP job would be a piece of cake. McCain lied to her and has now set her up as a national joke.

What I'm afraid of is if she does bow out McCain will put some hardcore Neocon in her place -- like our Israeli Senator Joe "Bomb Iran" Lieberman or even Jeb Bush who is currently unemployed at the moment. I think I'd rather have Sarah then those two thugs.

The bait switch will probably earn Katie to never ever have palin again, palin will tell katie to pack sand.

OH that MEAN Couric! I'll never interview with her again!

Yeah, that inspires me when I think about Palin talking to Putin.

What is really humorous here is I am not a palin fan what so ever. palin is a scammin lying cheat of selfish desires to the max but am stuck defending her because I see the slant double sword play being done to her by these democratic bards.

She is in waaaaay over her head, I believe she was singled out to be "used" by the McCain campaign and is afraid to back out even if deep down inside her heart that is what she'd really like to do but is afraid to say it.

I think what McCain's done by choosing Palin was grossly unfair to Paliin. I too have sympathy for her. I disagree with what I believe are many of her views, but it isn't that enjoyable watching the vetting/learning process being done at a National level.

Still, there are two things I judge: McCain's judgment with his choice, and Palin's decision to accept McCain's offer.

I have little doubt that her role as VP would be nothing like Cheney's.

Ah come on! You don't think Uncle Dick's going to give Sarah his secret bunker in the country side, and stuff? ....

Actually you're right...Uncle Dick will probably keep the bunker.

I see the slant double sword play being done to her by these democratic bards.

You are right in this, the question would be viewed as condescending if it was asked of McCain, Obama or Biden. There is a general belief that all 3 of them would be able to answer it.

Yeah, that inspires me when I think about Palin talking to Putin.

Ok YAV,

You would be yep, putin would ask her what newspaper do you read for information. I honestly thought you were smarter than this.

Putin would ask her to name a supreme court case.

Yep, these are all question of foreign dignitaries.

I get ya, katie was right on track.

Keep it up guys, I may make palin look like a champ yet! LOL!

"It's just that VP is way too important to mess around with taking a chance on someone definitely not qualified for the job."

I disagree. I'm hoping McCain doesn't get a visit by the grim reaper and will support him any day. Obama's role in the housing crisis is just one more reason why he is completely unfit for the presidency.

And the 57 states thingy...

I'll never be convinced he isn't muslim at heart.

stuck defending her because I see the slant double sword play being done to her by these democratic bards.

Or, she's too weak to be defensible. How could someone that weak on substance possibly be qualified to be VP of the U.S.?

Putin would probably say, "Nice Pictures"

"Have any more?"

Sarah was on Hugh Hewitt today and not putting down Katie on her interview.

------

HH: Now Governor, the Gibson and the Couric interview struck many as sort of pop quizzes designed to embarrass you as opposed to interviews. Do you share that opinion?

SP: Well, I have a degree in journalism also, so it surprises me that so much has changed since I received my education in journalistic ethics all those years ago. But I'm not going to pick a fight with those who buy ink by the barrelful. I'm going to take those shots and those pop quizzes and just say that's okay, those are good testing grounds. And they can continue on in that mode. That's good. That makes somebody work even harder. It makes somebody be even clearer and more articulate in their positions. So really I don't fight it. I invite it.

And another answer--

HH: Have you followed the attacks on you, say, via Drudge or the blogs? Some of them are just made up and out of left field, others are just mocking. Do you follow those?

SP: No, I sure don't, and thank God I don't have time to follow those. You know, I think that those shots, too, though, no matter what we're taking and receiving, it's nothing compared to what real shots are against Americans in this world. Americans today who are worried about losing their home and figuring out how in the world they're going to pay their fuel bill next month, and send their kid to college, and may be worried about losing a loved one that they're sending off to a war zone to protect our rights. Those are the shots that Americans are taking, so all this political nonsense and the lies, the rhetoric that is spun out there about someone just trying to offer themselves up in the name of service to this great country, I'll take it.
