Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

In a surreal joint interview with Katie Couric, both John McCain and Sarah Palin said it was "gotcha journalism" when a voter questioned Palin on Pakistan and was told she approved cross-border raids on Al Qaeda targets, a position McCain opposes. "This is not the first time that I've seen a governor being questioned by some quote, expert,'" McCain said.

gotcha journalism

well if she showed up for more then 3 interviews

there wouldn't be a need for gotcha journalism

this is all your fault mccain

sometimes you feel bad for this woman. its down right embarrasing

its like... what the hell were you thinking

You know I have watched this interview thrice now and I have gotta say. Every God damned time Sarah Palin turns to look at John McCain it seems She is smitten with love. It's like She is looking at a Spouse for some admiration and validity. It's like "I am saying the right things aren't I sweetie??" Makes Me want to vomit. But that is just Me.

Larry

This interview was just horrible. McCain seriously sounded like he was Palin's father (and no, that's not a comment on his age), stepping in to defend her from anyone who would even begin to imply something negative about her.

I was really, really creeped out by it.

Voters are journalists now! Thanks for making that all clear for me Senator McBush!

Yeah, it is all the voters fault for asking tough questions. Why would anyone running for the second highest office in the US expect anything but fluff softball questions. Sheesh.

Every single day McBullshit proves more and more he is not fit for command.

...........sinking...........

The only appropriate questions are regarding the preferred methods for field dressing a moose.

Hey, Obama said the same thing. Anyway, Palin still has plenty time to turn around things, and her supporters are still holding.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it McCain running for President?

And "plenty of time"? They've got just over a month, and after McCain's post-convention bump in the beginning of September he has been continually slipping in the polls.

"Palin still has plenty of time to turn around things...."

She has until Thursday.

The Next vice president for 8 years: Sarah Palin!

"Hey, Obama said the same thing. Anyway, Palin still has plenty time to turn around things, and her supporters are still holding."

But it was McCain who said you shouldn't ever talk about such, not openly, and his running mate did. I bet Palin is starting to believe in global warming now, the heat is definitely on her sorry ass....Friday will be known as teh great Debacle for Palin....she might getting embarassed so bad she will get some sympathy votes........

Uhh, yea...that's the point. Palin agreed with Obama's position, at least until Pappy McCain called her up to tell her that was wrong. Whoops!

In 2004 37 million evangelicals voted --- 87% for Bush, 13% for Kerrey.

7 million evangelicals did not bother to vote.

2008: 40 million evangelicals expected to vote.

They are not the ones trolling the media and making noises like the liberals do --- hacking, insulting, distorting, to make Palin look ugly.

Obama, get more experience and come back 8 years later. I might vote for you then.

"They are not the ones trolling the media...."

What you mean is they don't troll where you're willing to look for them.

Since McCain's point in the debate was to suggest that Obama is too inexperienced, rather than the specific incident about what he said on Pakistan, it was a double/triple example of his ineptitude, since it allowed Obama to bring up the "Bomb, bomb Iran" song.

He has to know that the actual policy of going into Pakistan without telling them has been going on for a couple of years, and of course we have to be able to do that.

Palin actually should have corrected him. That would have been cool.

What's a voter doing asking a question, anyway?
Bats snore, birds swim, fish crawl, voters vote, senators senate.
Voters should not be asking questions, they should be voting.
The people who ask questions are reporters.
That's why I just ignore 'em.

Sure you would.

Sitdown,

It also allowed Obama to bring up how wrong McBullshit's judgement has been in the past about:

WMD's
Sunni/Shia violence
How long the war will be
Being greeted as liberators

He made McBush look like a fool that votes along party lines with horrible judgement.

Hardly gotcha journalism. This was a voter's question that happened to be captured on film. It wasn't a setup, as they imply. She stuck her foot in her mouth because she's not even aware of McCain's own stance on these issues.

But come November 4, and the country will see how the quiet voters.

Anyone remember the way Rush Limbaugh insulted Chelsea and Hilary???

The Palin family has been given a pass that any Democratic famile with the same circumstances would have been crucified for.

How about a bit of Shame on McCain for an utterly stupid choice of running mate, pandering only to the Rush Limbaugh faction.

And now the old fool is probably regretting it. He has no policy, no plans, just day to day pandering and reversals, and soon all he will have left is to tell people not to vote for a "black man".

He and his Roveans are trying out ways to say that without saying it. It's all they've got and the "people" you say you care about will see through it for what it is.

You're right, expecting a VP candidate to know the issues is going too far. Expecting Palin to be able to answer questions posed by the media is destroying her family and her character.

Open your eyes and get over your Palin fascination. She's not qualified, she never was. McCain's judgment on this should be called into question. He simply picked her for her gender. Women should be insulted that he chose someone who is so unqualified.

TJ,

I will repeat this until the day I die, Rove picked Palin, McBush had no clue who she was.

Rove picked her because she is the same style of executive as Dumbya, manipulative, corrupt, vengeful, ultra religious, secretive, etc.

Falling like a rock.

"The Next vice president for 8 years: Sarah Palin!"

Wrong on so many levels, but let's just visit two of them:

1) After McCain's surreal performance in the matter of the bailout vote, he probably couldn't run for dogcatcher successfully, which takes Palin down with him.

2) Whoever wins this election, they'll be a one-termer, because they'll be inheriting such a mess that no one can straighten it out soon enough to suit voters, and they will, rightly or wrongly, be held responsible at the polls.

Obama = at least 300 electoral votes.

some observations.

1. McCain looked PISSED as hell, I thought he was gonna haul off and hit couric when he initially started talking.
2. his attempt at levity was creepy
3. He was gritting his teeth I swore I thought I saw bone fly from his mouth.
4. Couric did a horrible job in this interview
-Obama is for attacking unilaterally to get OBL.
-Palin agreed with this
-McCain's position is so f'in unclear to be ludicrous, he is hding behind some national security line of BS

5. Palin looked scared.
6. She attempts to name drop President Zadari-what I wouldnt give to have listened in on THAT conversation!
7. Forest for trees moment-the discussion drops to whether she is sorry for this or that. The f'in point is what is your policy!
8. She added: "In the context, this was a voter, a constituent, hollering out a question from across an area asking, What are you gonna do about Pakistan?

You better have an answer to Pakistan.' I said we're gonna do what we have to do to protect the United States of America."
IS MISREPRESENTING THE FACTS.
Saturday night, while on a stop for cheesesteaks in South Philadelphia, Palin was questioned by a Temple graduate student about whether the U.S. should cross the border from Afghanistan into Pakistan.
"If that's what we have to do stop the terrorists from coming any further in, absolutely, we should," Palin said.

2) Whoever wins this election, they'll be a one-termer, because they'll be inheriting such a mess that no one can straighten it out soon enough to suit voters, and they will, rightly or wrongly, be held responsible at the polls.

it's not the answer that is the problem its the question.

great republican motto!

This woman is NOT a victim of anything. She is an INSULT to all women in the world. Period. To think that the right wing of the repulsican party thinks that Palin is equal to the task of being the president of the United States for the SOLE REASON that she possesses a vagina is an insult to ALL women everywhere. Palin has not got Clue #1 about anything that happens outside the state of Alaska. A state, I might add, that has less population, I believe, than the district Senator Obama represented in the Illinois State Senate! Palin would not have been given a second look if she had been a MAN with the same qualifications. She would have been laughed out of the room the first time she opened her mouth and spouted one of her inanities. But because she is a woman, the repulsicans think she exemplifies the women of the United States. Women she would, if given the chance, remove birth control choices from. Remove reproductive choices from. Choices SHE HAD when she OPTED to give birth to her infant son. Remove the right to equal pay for equal work from. Because she has a vagina, the repulsican right thinks her views represent those of the women of the United States. That she is COMPARABLE to women like Elizabeth Dole, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Olympia Snow and yes, Condi Rice (who I do not care for but admit has a functioning BRAIN which Palin demonstrably does not!). Palin cannot hold a MATCH, let alone a candle to those conservative women and yet the repulsican right feels that simply because Palin is a woman, she is qualified, based on her gender, to be president of the United States. And sorry, but considering Grampy Poopy Pants' advanced age and physical condition (which he will NOT fully disclose to the voting public even though it directly affects what will happen in the next 4 years should he, G-d forbid, be elected president) could very well happen sooner than anyone might think or be prepared for. Palin is an INSULT to women everywhere. Period. And she should absolutely withdraw from the slate for the good of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Go back to Alaska, Sarah. Take care of your family, clean your shotguns (in case that piece of drek who knocked up your daughter tries to run BEFORE the happy nuptials) and tend your garden. You are so far out of your league you don't even know where you are.

87 percent of evangelicals voted for Bush in 2004?

Hmm...something tells me their judgement really, really sucks.

Dear Evangelicals: How does it feel to be sooo wrong? So used? How's that abortion and gay-marriage ban working out for ya?

btw why didnt Palin answer Courics question about Mccain and deregulation, she promised she would get back to her on that!

How's that abortion and gay-marriage ban working out for ya?

Eva they are in a mild shock because somebody told them that with Gay Marriage there might actually be less abortions.

As stupid as Palin is, I can understand the confusion on her part with respect to Obama's position on Pakistan. Obama's position on Pakistan is what you would expect Bush/McCain's position to be, since preemption is more or less the Republican policy, however McCain, in a seemingly strange quest to distance himself from Obama on EVERYTHING now says Obama's naive to make incursions into Pakistan to fight Al Qeada.

So is it any wonder that Palin would make that screw up? The position that Pakistan's a sovereign state and that we can't cross the border to attack Al Qeada is anathema to everything Bush/McCain have been saying since 9/11.

That being said, I still expect her to ask for a "lifeline" a la Tina Fay tomorrow night. The McCain/Palin campaign will be done for...

it truly saddens me that americans would vote for someone who clearly has not understanding of significant policy issues.

Clearly, that voter is sexist. As is Katie Couric.

"As stupid as Palin is, I can understand the confusion on her part with respect to Obama's position on Pakistan."

Me too, she was really just unknowingly applying the Bush Doctrine.

the mccrybaby campaign

If I was a rightie I wouldn't be counting on any evangelical vote that isn't xtian in belief. Can't see muslims, buddhist, taoist, pagans, wiccans, hindus, most baptist and mormons.......and many other religions voting rightie. YOu can count on cristian, catholic and most jewish votes though, there I agree.

LM

YOu can count on cristian, catholic and most jewish votes though, there I agree.

They can count on most evangelical Christian votes. The rest, not so much. Remember, Joe's a papist.

Still, the election underscored the importance of white evangelical voters to the GOP. In 2004, they constituted 36% of Bush voters. By comparison, African-Americans the most loyal of Democratic constituencies constituted only about one-fifth (21%) of Kerry's voters.

But Others As Well

President Bush increased his share of the Catholic vote by five percentage points (52% in 2004, vs. 47% in 2000). His gain among white, non-Hispanic Catholics was four points (52% to 56%).

But the similar size of Bush's gains among Catholics and his gains among other groups suggest that the impact of conservative bishops who spoke out against John Kerry was relatively limited. During the campaign, several Roman Catholic bishops vowed to deny Communion to lawmakers who support abortion rights. But voter support for Bush increased slightly less (three points) among Catholics who are regular churchgoers, and thus who might be more apt to hear about and be influenced by the bishops' appeal, than among those who attend less frequently (up seven points). Indeed, a Pew poll in August found widespread disapproval of the bishops' action among Catholics, with 72% of Catholics saying that it was inappropriate.

Bush also registered a larger-than-average gain among Jews, winning 25% of the vote up from 19% in 2000. In the key swing state of Florida, he received 20% of the Jewish vote, up from 12% four years ago.

A 3 some with Cindi and caribou barbie?

I wouldn't touch that with Bushlovers d**k.

C'mon 726, ya gotta know that Cindi hasn't had any in years, unless she's gone Mrs. Fred Thompson and is doing the hired help. Caribou barbie is definitley getting it, but ya'd need to wear a condom cause she's getting it lots of places. Desperate and horny-I'd do them.

Northguy is cougar-prey.

ya gotta know that Cindi hasn't had any in years

I doubt that she has ever gotten any of good quality.

Northguy is cougar-prey.

I'm in an age sandwich with Cindi and barbie. I'm going with the younger stud/more experienced lover line.

The problem with Sarah Palin is that she's not very smart, experienced, or educated. She's kinda mean though, so there's that.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Now voters are engaging in 'gotcha journalism' for daring to ask a pertinent question.

Oh, boy.

McCain and Palin looked like a May-December married couple applying for a loan.

"No loan for you - he's too old"

" Let's see just how much life insurance you have on him, sweetie"....

John accuses a voter of "Gotcha" journalism fer asking a tough question?

In retrospect, considering John's legendarily out-of-control temper that voter is prolly lucky that John didn't take a swing at him.

Atually, McCadaver is half dead himself. He prolly woulda just gotten Sarah to shoot him and field dress him.

Be Well.

/FF to NG#3 fer "McCadaver" Spud LOL'd!

Did anyone else catch the look that McInsane gave Obama during the debate when Obama mentioned that McInsane would refuse to talk with the president of Spain?

I though he was about to bust a vessel of something. I hope Obama presses that button a couple more time in the coming debates!!!

Bush, pissed at McCadaver for screwing his bailout, says there's a pemguin crisis in Antarctica. John "suspends" (freezes?) his campaign and flies there to the rescue and gets snowed in for about a month...

I love how McSame blames the person who simply asked a question and not the person who answered it incorrectly.

The Candidates from the party of 'Personal Responsibility'....always blaming someone else for their fuck-ups!

Bart Simpson/Sarah Palin 2012.

It is kind of funny that you could apply most of your crazy anti-Palin rants to Obama - no experience, doesn't know what he is talkng about, shouldn't ahve got into the race if he can't stand his wife being questioned - what a strange little world you all seem to live in.

Four legs good, two legs bad etc.

I'm waiting for McCain to run out onto the stage and shout "you're playing gotcha politics!" every time Biden owns her tomorrow night.

Get the popcorn ready, it's gonna be exciting!

Yes the gaff machine goes primetime it will be hard to keep a straight face as old joe plants his size tens firmly in his mouth - you are too funny DDENTON

All Joe has to do is stand there. Palin will fail herself right out of the debate all on her own.

If Biden helps her on her way, he won't have to do much.

Could not agree more...
The two examples I remember in my short 40 yrs were Jimmy Carter following the Nixon mess and George H W (read my lips)Bush following the debt of Ole Ronnie Raygun...

McCain dont have enough mental sharpness left to do two terms and Obama has to do something to raise revenue so that'll likely put him under as an incumbent.

The reporter then announces, "It's an even split (ph)"

That's how far removed she is from the issues, from basic knowledge and from utilitarian intelligence.

The media is 100% behind Obama and by now it should be obvious to the whole world.

You keep on telling yourself this. Whatever helps you accept that Obama will be the next POTUS.

"Joe Klein (TIME) has vowed to demolish McCain.
Fared Zakaria (NEWSWEEK) has absolute contempt for Sarah Palin --- because Palin pulled the rug from under Obama.
Two openly biased liberal journalists. There is not enough lipstick to hide the pigs in them."

Dear Takeyermedz:

This is like WWII press bias for Roosevelt over Mussolini and Hitler, mmkay?

I'll say this v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y: There are g-o-o-d p-e-o-p-l-e and there are b-a-d p-e-o-p-l-e. It's okay to have a prejudice in favor of g-o-o-d p-e-o-p-l-e over b-a-d p-e-o-p-l-e; most reasonable human beings do. McThusaleh and Palin are b-a-d p-e-o-p-l-e.

Using your logic, TIME should have run stories in the '40s telling people how lovely Hitler's watercolors were, to balance things out a bit.

There's no way you seriously just compared McCain to Hitler.

McCain can't hold his right arm up to salute properly.

McThusaleh's got the whole world telling him he's a pig-headed idiot, and he keeps sticking to his script anyway.

Sounds familiar to me.

I'm sorry but the real issue here is not Palin flubbing the reply to what to do about Pakistan but the fact that you don't go to Tony Luke's for the cheesesteaks but for a roast pork sandwich with spinach and provolone. Stupid cow.

Oooooops. Be careful! You'll bring down all of the faux outrage that the McSame/Failin campaign can muster at this point when you talk about pigs & lipstick.

"Two openly biased liberal journalists. "

Yeah, but Obama's camp agreed to Brokaw and Schieffer. What's a campaign to do?

GEEZER1, that Sarah is more intelligent than you should be warm comfort.

Anyway, get used to her because you'll be seeing her for 8 years as the next Veep. Forget the polls, McCain already won. He will be the 44th.

" Forget the polls, McCain already won. He will be the 44th."

Once when on the God beat for my paper (yes! briefly) I attended a very new age type of service that really stressed positive thinking. Prayers were prayed with the explicit understanding that it was already so. The flock folded within the year. So will TakeIt. With NO tears. herm

In 2004 Kerrey was 8 points ahead in polls in Ohio, and he lost that State and the Presidency.

Herm, this is not about positive thinking. It is about my reading of 'revelations' and McCain seem to fit there.

And Billy Graham likes Sarah Palin!
