Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey today appointed a special prosecutor to pursue possible criminal charges against Republicans who were involved in the firings of nine U.S. attorneys in 2006. "At a minimum, the process ... was haphazard, arbitrary and unprofessional," Mukasey said."

"Our investigation found significant evidence that political partisan considerations were an important factor in the removal of several of the U.S. Attorneys," the report said.

Former Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales "bears primary responsibility" for how the attorneys were fired, the report said, adding that he was "remarkably unengaged."

After the 358-page report (PDF) was released, Mukasey appointed a career prosecutor, acting Connecticut U.S. Attorney Nora R. Dannehy, to pursue possible criminal charges against Republicans who were involved in the firings.

Democrats caught with their pants down --- during 2004 hearing defending Fannie and Freddie, saying nothing is wrong with them. WHooooo!!!!! I hope McCain should let this be out everyday till November 4.

Defending Freddie and Fannie --- Barney Franks, Meek, Maxine Waters, etc.
Find it from http://newsmax.com

Evidence, evidence, evidence, the Democrats in the pockets of Freddie and Fannie --- stalling investigation and regulation into these two failed companies.

After all, it was started by Bill Clinton who pressured F and M to give loans to unqualified applicants --- yet he got lucky and got the credit while creating a cancer that grew and festered for the future to suffer.

Barney Franks: you are cooked!

Laughable

And to think this thread is about a Special Prosecutor being appointed to investigate the US Attorney firings.

What say you about that, deflector?

1. U.S. attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President.
2. How many U.S. attorneys are there? (93)
3. How many did Bush fire? (6)
4. How many did Clinton fire? (93)
5. Where was the national shit-fit when Clinton exercised his privelage?

McCain, your victory over Obama is right here: the story of Freddie and Fannie. YOU HAVE EVIDENCE! In video!

especially when he's bent over.

Dean-the Prez can fire a prosecutor for no reason, or good reason but not a bad reason. Since prosecutors terms expire with the president's , Clinton didn't fire them, he just didn't renew their appointments. Wanna guess how many appointments Bush didn't renew in 2001?

This is just another example of a corrupt and inept Republican presidency.
But I repeat myself....

Ya gotta realize bad shit happened when a Republican flunky appoints a special prosecutor to investigate his bosses....

boy they jumped on this with all the speed and gusto of a herd of turtles, who were all tired.

So when to the hearings start on how Fannie and Freddie were stated to be working great when they were not?

Which congress members are responsible and took money from these companies?

Why isn't Frank Raines behind bars fo rhis cooking of the books at FNMA and pocketing 90 million in bonuses?

As to this thread--more wasted time and money.

What is the "law" that was broken?

What is the punishment if someone broke a law?

Dean_Buvia- What's your point? Maybe Clinton was cleaning house from the Bush admin? And who gives a shit. The economy was strong, the mkts were flying and jobs were aplenty. Things were in alot better shape then then the shitshow that Lucky sperm Bush 2 has given us.

Murphy: investigation of this magnitude takes time. Fredie and Fannie has been served with subpoena.

What "law" was broken? Well, here ya go from the AP article -
"Serious allegations involving potential criminal conduct have not been fully investigated or resolved," the report said, listing lying to investigators, obstruction of justice and wire fraud among the potential felony crimes.

www.foxnews.com

Just normal criminal activity from the Bush administration.

"Where was the national shit-fit "

Well, you missed a few salient points, among them the fact the DOJ currently has three lies still on the table:

The USAs were fired for incompetence. Wait, that's not true...they were fired because...

We don't know who compiled that list.

We don't know why that list was compiled.

This is one of those issues which separates the patriots from the partisans. Some of us don't like being lied to, especially by The Department of Justice.

Commentator on PBS tonight said it most succinctly:

"The president can fire attorneys for any reason. The president can fire attorneys for NO reason. But...the president CANNOT fire attorneys for a bad reason."

Don't know what it takes to get it across to all the deflectors here. You CANNOT fire US Attorneys for political reasons. That's the issue, not whether the president has the authority to fire attorneys at will.

Christ what a bunch of dummies.

Funny that they call the firings political, like it wasn't political when Clinton fired every Republican attorney.

U.S. attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President.

I'll explain it this way:
The President may or may not fire ANY, ALL or
NONE of the U.S. attorneys at his TOTAL DISCRETION
.

President can use reason - he's a eenie, a meemie, a miney or a mo.

She's a blonde.

He's a dullard.

I didn't like his decision on Jones vs. Smith.

His daddy make good BBQ.

His politics are good.
His are bad.
Her feet smell like corn chips.

I will fire OR keep [whoever] because of [fill in the blank].

When you don't have to have a reason (valid or
otherwise) to fire or keep someone - IT'S CALLED POLITICS.

There is nothing to investigate.

U.S. attorneys serve at the COMPLETE PLEASURE of the President.

President Clinton exercised the same option - just
like all presidents before him. Is it fair, or right ?
- probably not - but that is the nature of the job.

{you 'member clinton, right? the guy who said he simply
ejaculated on the bitches' face, but didn't have sex
with her...?)

What if Clinton fired a USA for not pursuing a case against his political opponents, and then replaced that USA with one more likely to be a good political team player, regardless of the merits of the case?

Dean Blovia-
re: {you 'member clinton, right? the guy who said he simply
ejaculated on the bitches' face, but didn't have sex
with her...?)

I don't recall Clinton saying that. When you return from surfing porn sites, I'd like a response. (oh....wash up first, please)

"President Clinton exercised the same option - just like all presidents before him."

No, he didn't. He didn't fire attorneys he had hired, he didn't do it in the middle of the term, and his DOJ didn't lie about it.

"The President may or may not fire ANY, ALL or NONE of the U.S. attorneys at his TOTAL DISCRETION."

Those jobs are not supposed to be based on partisanship. They were based on partisanship; the DOJ admitted as much, and the Inspector General has finally decided to appoint a special prosecutor:

www.crooksandliars.com

was haphazard, arbitrary and unprofessional,

Sort of sums up the entire Bush Presidency. Mcsame's already exhibited the first two in the last month.

We've been sayin' all along that hiring McBush as pRez is just the monkey-in-a-man-suit's third term!
All his fuck-ups in the last month just prove it...

It never ends. No matter how obvious, how completely wrong, how many times this idiocy is debunked - even in the face of Mukasey's admission and appointment of a Special Prosecutor, there are those that can't grasp the simplest thought.

This is among the many reason those hundreds of thousands of WH emails disappeared

it would be good for a laugh, if Rove did hard time for this

""Freed from Jail, Fmr. Alabama Governor Don Siegelman Accuses Karl Rove of Orchestrating Political Witch Hunt
We speak to former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, currently free on bond while he appeals a conviction on corruption charges. Siegelman says he's the target of a political witch hunt directed by former White House Deputy Karl Rove. More than sixty former state attorneys general have called for a congressional investigation into Siegelman's case. [includes rush transcript]""

www.democracynow.org

Rove deserves prison time and hopefully he will get what is coming to him....except bush will probably grant him a get out of jail free card when he exits the WH. Every time I see him on Fox News it makes me realize just how much Fox is part of the criminal conspiracy called the Bush administration.
It would be nice if some of those disgusting unAmerican traitors could serve time with Rove.

"Every time I see him on Fox News...."

I see you watch Fox news, Danni. Good for you. It's a mystery though..how do you remain so stupid?

"It's a mystery though..how do you remain so stupid?"

When I am called stupid by those who have been consistently wrong about virtually every topic discussed on this site I take it as a compliment.

BTW, I notice you didn't even read the link I posted much less have the IQ or honesty to deal with that little disturbing bit of Republican disregard for the law and their contempt for justice.

Anyone that watches Foxnews must have the IQ of absolute zero.

Larry

"Anyone that watches Foxnews must have the IQ of absolute zero."

That's not so! I happen to know that Danni has an IQ of 14.

"BTW, I notice you didn't even read the link I posted much less have the IQ or honesty to deal with that little disturbing bit of Republican disregard for the law and their contempt for justice."

Danni...I don't need a link to know that ALL lawyers/politicans, regardless of party, disregard law and justice. That probably comes as a shock to you.

"Danni...I don't need a link to know that ALL lawyers/politicans, regardless of party, disregard law and justice."

That is a variation on the Republican talking point that both parties are the same, now it's all lawyers/politicians are the same. That is one way to avoid confronting the crimes committed by Rove and REpublican prosecutors. I guess ignorance is bliss for Republicans these days. Can't say I blame you, I wouldn't want to have to admit I ever supported these thugs either. Fortunately though for me, I never did. Sucks to be you.

Justgettingdumber.
If you feel that all lawyers and pols regardless of party disregard laws and justice I can see why you are a dyed in the wool Republitard.

Some of us do have expectations of lawful governance.

Repubs seem not to.

We get that you dont.

It is for that reason that your posts are typically scrolled past, unread and surley unrespected.

That may say more about you than it does about him...

Come on man, that was a softball for the ages.

I am just tring to see how long it takes for you libs to ge me kicked out again. You libs hate free speech. You hate anyone who disagrees with you.

You're a Dem alright. No republican is as stupid as you.

This reminds me of the B.S.Bravado of another touted prosecution by that macho New York Judge "Ms.White" who was really, really going to make Bill Clinton pay for at least some of his many crimes. It didn't happen, not even close,in fact it was a total joke - just like this "fairy tale" prosecution won't happen either!!! The only person who can deliver or pull any justice out of the Clinton or Bush Regimes/Mafias is a lone, unaligned vigilante!

what i find more interesting is why we arnt being alowed in to this: blogs.orlandosentinel.com
