He did not accomplish what his objective was," said Sgt. Matt Mount of the Indianapolis Metro Police Department.

Paramedics pronounced Meyers dead inside the house early Sunday morning.

"He had served a 10 year of a 20 year sentence for criminal confinement and sexual deviate conduct," said Sgt. Mount.

Before Meyers died he allegedly broke into the home. What police say he had on him is puzzling. According to police, the intruder had gained access into the house through a window next to the intended victim's bedroom. Police also say he wasn't wearing clothing except for a mask and latex gloves.

"He had in his possession a knife, some rope, some condoms," said Sgt. Mount. Investigators say Meyers even made it to his intended victim's bedroom. "She awoke, saw this naked man in the bedroom with the mask on. She started screaming," said Sgt. Mount.

Police say the 17-year-old girl's father heard her screams and ran to her help.

"His wife called 911 and that's when the police arrived and found him on the floor with his arm around the neck of Mr. Meyers struggling, holding him down," said Sgt. Mount.

Investigators say when the homeowner removed Meyers' mask, he recognized him. "He was the nephew of the homeowner they were renting the home from. So he was familiar with the floor plan of the house," said Sgt. Mount.

Police started to put handcuffs on Meyers, but they realized he was not breathing. "Don't know whether it was a heart attack or asphyxiation from the choke hold that was put on him," explained Sgt. Mount. "What could have been a very tragic situation for a 17-year-old girl has turned into the death of the assailant."

Police are calling Meyers' death a homicide, but say most likely no charges will be filed.

Meyers was wanted in Boone County for failure to register as a sex offender. Investigators say he was not registered in Marion County. The prosecutor will review the case Monday.

This teenage girl was very lucky her father was at home and able to fight him off. The naked would be rapist breaking into her bedroom with a rope and a knife in his hands would not have had a nice ending if her father had not been there to save her.

The father won't be charged with murder. The would be rapist had a history of heart trouble and I think the chokehold the Dad had put on him and all the excitement probably caused the rapist to have a heart attack. His death was no loss to society, that's for sure.

I hope that dad suffered no strains or other injuries in his defense of his family. Good job, no one else will ever have this pervert to deal with in the future. See, I'm with you on that one. Our nation actually goes a bit too far in "protecting the children." The punishments for so much as taking a leak when a kid is nearby are so horrendous it's ridculous. Some people actually advocate a sex offender, after they have SERVED THEIR TIME AND PAID THEIR DEBT TO SICEITY, then not be allowed to live within 5 miles of a child. Where in populated areas the hell is a place, anywhere on the face of the planet, that doesn't have a child within 5 miles of it?

The problem is this sort of thing is very much shades of grey, and people refuse to see it that way. The punishments for these things are so draconian that after the surge has fallen and they realize they've done something wrong, they're just going to kill the child instead of there being any chance of turning themselves in. There once was a time when such things were dealt with my the authorities with psychological review and counselling, in addition to jail time. Thse days have passed.

If the penalty is the same as (it's actually greater then, which is totally fucking insane) killing the child, they're more likely to kill the child. No witnesses. And a greater chance of getting away with it. They go more insane, and become an even worse danger. The prophecy put forth by the already insane, demanding heinous and permanent punishments, becomes self-fulfilling.

Me, I'd rather the child live to maybe work through it somehow then be a corpse, so that the insane can get their pound of flesh. Just like in this case. It's unfortunate that he died, however I do not believe the father was actually trying to kill him. Given the offender's repeated history of this I'm not exactly sure how he wasn't committed to an asylum until he was no longer a danger to society. The dude walked in mostly naked? He's clearly not entirely sane. But, justice is imperfect. Hopefully no charges will be filed against him.

I'm in favor of laws that say that if you enter someone else's home with the intent to commit a felony or physically harm them in any way, that they have a right to kill you. Frankly I think this dad deserves some sort of award rather than the possibility of prosecution.
