Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Ford's iconic Model T was built for the common man and began to transform the American landscape soon after it first rolled out of a Detroit factory a hundred years ago this week.

I love the story about when Henry was asked about the complaints regarding the Model T coming in only one color and he said "you can have any color you want - as long as it's black."

Model Ts are still fairly easy to find.

Late-1990s Ford products are getting hard to find, even if you wanted one, which you don't, trust me.

Henry Ford would turn over in his grave if he knew what Ford was selling now, and I don't mean he'd turn over once - he'd be doing about 5000 r.p.m.

When you buy your $5 a share stock, you are buying $160+billion debt in the hope that someday (or some decade), the thing can turn a consistent profit.

The M stands for mechanic.

I was about 5 when I first road in a Model T. The upolstery was horse hair and it sucked.

Mary-Henry was supposedly talking to one of his engineers about the T. the engineer said we can make the engines last 100,000 miles, but the bodies fall apart after 5-10 years-Henry said get to work on those engines.

"the engineer said we can make the engines last 100,000 miles, but the bodies fall apart after 5-10 years-Henry said get to work on those engines."

Another anecdote (I have no way of knowing if its true) that I heard years ago was that Ford sent people to inspect Model T's (or was it Model As) in junkyards and determine what parts were most likely to be still functional. Turns out it was the rocker arms which he then requested his engineers to stop over-designing.

Moss-wouldn't be rocker arms, the cars were all flatheads (no rocker arms).

Read somewhere that parts of wooden shipping crates sent to Ford were designed to be Model T floor boards. neat idea if true.

Didn't McCain buy one of the first ones off the assembly line?

Or, like the telephone was it just too new-fangled for him.

"Moss-wouldn't be rocker arms, the cars were all flatheads (no rocker arms)."

Thanks NGuy. As I was posting that exact thought came into my mind - did these things even have rocker arms? My knowledge of engines only goes back to the 60's.

Honda is only in it's infancy and kicking Fords butt.

And here come the parade of, let's trash an american car company replies!
