oohrah - i've come to the conclusion there are some here who are ill-concerned with facts. the truth would kill the majority of them...just try reaching across the aisle to one of them and you're more than likely to pull back a bloody stub. imho.

My experience here is that while pretty much everyone knows my views, I don't return from dialogue with a bloody stump. That I choose to engage in perhaps less combative ways than others means the conversation remains more civil.

At the end of it all, that doesn't necessarily change their view or mine, yet I don't leave the conversation with higher blood pressure than when I started - and that's a good thing.

As with much in life - we get what we give and vice versa. I do think that the web allows peole to be more confrontational than they otherwise would be if having face to face dialogue.

Spud is just counting the posts until someone brings up the Annenberg Foundation and Obama's alleged ties to it.

Obviously, some truths are more subjective than others but all in all Spud thinks Factcheck.org do a prety good job.

Of course, blogworld will be doing it's own version of real time fact checking during the debate tonight.

true, oohrah - but there are some i don't even bother with who follow me around harassing me and a couple of others who we've decided to be civil to one another. i figure since i'm the newbie, they're just trying to beat me down to see what i'm made of?

That may be part of it. While I can't speak for those on the left and why they interact with you the way they do, my impression is they view you as more combative than, say Grendel or me.

Like I said upthread, we tend to give what we get... so while that doesn't absolve one or condone contentious responses, I can see where both you and your opponents might feel "justified" in responding the way you do.

Politics and religion are difficult enough to try to debate without bringing snarky remarks and personal digs into the mix. I think if you make a concerted long term effort to not "go there" your adversaries will eventually respond in kind.
