Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has made a crackdown on gift-giving to state officials a centerpiece of her ethics reform agenda, has accepted gifts valued at $25,367 from industry executives, municipalities and a cultural center whose board includes officials from some of the largest mining interests in the state, a review of state records shows.

"About a quarter of the entities bestowing gifts on the governor are represented by one of Alaska's most influential mining lobbyists, who said in an interview that she was not involved in the tributes. The lobbyist, Wendy Chamberlain, has a relationship with the governor's family through the friendship of their teenage daughters.

On forms disclosing the gifts, Palin, who is the Republican vice presidential nominee, routinely checked "no" when asked whether she was in a position to "take official action that may affect the person who gave me the gift," and a spokeswoman for Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign said the gifts had no undue influence on her."

"Records show that 23 of the gifts were offered during Palin's early months in office, when she was pushing the legislature to address a state corruption scandal by passing a package of ethics reforms. She accepted 18 gifts after the law passed in July 2007. Among other provisions, the law forbade executive branch officials from taking gifts from lobbyists or from interests with pending state business."

"Palin, who holds significant sway over budgetary issues affecting cities, also accepted for "personal use" the gold-nugget pin from Nome. Mayor Denise Michels said the memento was meant to remind the governor that "Nome is a historic mining community." Palin approved about $6 million in funding this year for a public safety building in the city. "Anything our state can do to help us in capital projects, we're very grateful," Michels said.

Palin has also reported as gifts two fact-finding trips that mining companies sponsored for her husband, Todd. The trips were among several sponsored by mining companies for state officials."

Pretty incriminating for someone who "cleaned up the old boy network".

There's a lot more in the article, which is certainly not the only one to break today about this.

Reform and change.

Change and reform.

Keep repeating it and maybe someone will beleive it.

The press is doing something McCain does not know how to do--- Vet a candidate---
We are going to trust this man with appointing important cabinet positions?
I can see it now---Paris Hilton Secretary of State.

Paris would be more qualified than the lying piece of Alaskan white trash.

These gifts are most likely contributing to her failure to release her tax returns. Lord knows what else there is from this 'champion of ethics reform'. (snark)

Let's see, Palin's not going to release her tax information until some unspecified time after the veep debate on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Is there something to hide? Something that needs burying over the weekend? Anyone foresee a Friday afternoon info dump?

$100,000 Grant?
Oh golly-gee whiz!
At the same time bushie's butt-buddies have been defrauding the Gov. of HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS in Iranqistan?
You guys are too stoopid to even breath on your own.

But apparently $25,000 matters when it concerns someone who isn't Barack Obama. Shocking.

DOC

Yep.

Unrelated deflection flag

Joe, can you manage to stay on topic?

It's not unrelated. Earlier today there was a question as to Obama's role as to $100,000 that was swindled from Illinois taxpayers. One of your fellow lefties defended him on the grounds that $100,000 isn't enough money to matter when Bush has cost our country billions. I'm wondering if the same defense applies here.

Let me see if I've got this straight;

Our vp candidate, who just got her passport and is an expert on foriegn relations because she lives so close to russia, who just said one of the most brilliant, if mis-quided minds in the world was naive, who is a piece of nonspecific alaska white trash, who is known to have questionable personal morals, who is friends with and worked for a senator who is currently up for bribery and ethics violations, accepted $25000 in gifts?

What a shock! I tell you, whew, it's hard to believe.

This Alaskan Daily News report on Palin and Troopergate is very damning in light of Palin's previous statements. 5 minutes long:

THIS IS TOO CLEVER LIVE-LAUGH-LOVE

> Three women and three men are traveling by train to the football game.
> At the station, the three men each buy a ticket and watch as the three women
buy just one ticket.
> 'How are the three of you going to travel on only one ticket?' asks one of the
men.
> 'Watch and learn,' answers one of the women.
> They all board the train. The three men take their respective seats but all
three women cram into a toilet together and close the door.
> Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting
tickets. He knocks on the toilet door and says, 'Ticket, please.' The door opens
just a crack, and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand.
> The conductor takes it and moves on.
> The men see this happen and agree it was quite a clever idea; so, after the
game, they decide to do the same thi ng on the return trip and save some money.
> When they get to the station they buy a single ticket for the return trip but
see, to their astonishment, that the three women don't buy any ticket at all!!
> 'How are you going to travel without a ticket?' asks one perplexed man.
> 'Watch and learn,' answer the women.
> When they board the train, the three men cram themselves into a toilet, and
the three women cram into a toilet just down the way.
> Shortly after the train is on its way, one of the women leaves her toilet and
walks over to the toilet in which the men are hiding. She knocks on their door
and says, 'Ticket please.'
> I'm still trying to figure out why men think they are smarter than women.

Well Looks like those investigators finally found something, too bad they won't go to Chicago and try to dig anything up on ole Snobama, But 25,000 worth of gifts is pretty slim, still not good, But I am sure we can let this slide just like the 160,000 Obama got from Freddie Mac

Maybe they were campaign donations. They barter up there, you know.

she bartered for free hairdo's?

Can anyone tell me why, if the demoncraps have a majority to vote in their bailout, then why do they need the Republicans to sign on? As usual something stinks on the left side of the aisle, maybe someone is toasting ACORN. How much of that 700 billion will that looser, incompetent, lying, fraudulent bunch of criminals get? 20%, get a rope, get a bunch of ropes, 1 for Paulson too !

She has a lot of splainin' to do......

Alaskans are pissed she's MIA, McCain's camp has taken over the Gov's office, that she's not what she appeared to be, and that her promise to 'hold me accountable' was empty words.

--------

RIGHTNUT

The bailout is supposed to be a 'bipartisan effort'. Look up the meaning of the word and get back to us....

Not taking bribes is sexist!
besides, if she had to work for all that loot, who'd keep an eye on the Rooskies?

Of course she did. She's a hypocrite and 80% of everything she says is a lie. She learned from her hero's George Bush and Ted Stevens.

PALIN DOESN`T HAVE TO ANSWER TO THE CRITICS...TO ANYBODY..JUST SIT DOWN, RELAX AND BE SEXY. THAT IS A VICE PRESIDENT SHOULD BE...

Palin MUST answer to the critics because they could be Her future employer. That is if She is looking for employment as Vice President of the United States.

Larry

Failin' Palin!

A Battleship Anchor around the neck of the McCain campaign.

Can anyone tell me why, if the demoncraps have a majority to vote in their bailout, then why do they need the Republicans to sign on?

Well, let me give you an 8th grade Civics lesson.

The dems may have a majority, but it's not a veto-proof majority.

Bush will veto the bill (see, he can do that because he's president). Instead of wasting time and turning this into a 'Well Bush wouldn't sign it' moment, the dems are working to get a bi-partisan (that means BOTH sides in agreement) bill passed that Bush won't veto.

Any more questions simpleton?

p.s. Try taking a basic civics course at your local community college. If you can get in that is.

Gee. Great vetting job. Now where did this scandalous information come from? From a mole deep within the organization? No? From weeks of dumpster diving? No? From exhaustive interviews around the state? No?

Oh yeah, you're reading from the forms that Palin's office has already submitted. Good work, Dick Tracy.

Now you need to stretch credulity and logic to look for some malfeasance. Good luck. I guess since the Mayor of Nome, Alaska gave her a little pin for her lapel that Nome now needs to secede from the state of Alaska so that it can hire a different governor. Truly pathetic. Take a look at the millions in gifts that every White House receives (the records are on line). These kinds of gifts to heads of state are customary and are extremely well monitored. So keep wasting your time.

Large companies as well as many sectors of gubmunt
have a clause in their contracts that gives them the right to audit the financial records of the vendors and contarctors that do bidness with them.

SO, If you take a hand out (Ex. Fancy dinners, trips, tickets to sporting events or just plain ole gifts) you better be prepared to splain it.

At my company we have very specific rules and annual training on this shit...

Problem is when you're the governor(or senator) its kinda easy to hide the shit. Thats when you need someone like Jack Abramhoff to run inerference for you OOOps my bad dropped the ball there didn''t he.. just ask Tom Delay...

Randy "Duke" Cunningham fell hard to this because he tried to have his property purchased at enormous profits to him by a Fucking Defense Contractor. Did I mention what contracts Cunningham oversaw???

Sorry Common--

But Bush will sign the bill for 700B passed by the Dems without the Repubs.

The Dems are too afraid to pass the bill because it is doomed to failure and screw us.

They could pass the bill and Bush would sign--leaving the Repubs on the side lines voting NO.

So if that is the game then it appears we have 100 Repubs standing between us and the abyss of insanity that the Dems and Bush and Paulson want to put us in for generations to come.

On this thread--swinging and missing--again..

THIS is who McCain should have picked. Ex-wife of a U.S. Senator, great memorizer of lines, MUCH easier to look at.
