Though Sen. John McCain says the nation's current financial crisis requires "all hands on deck" because "the whole future of the American economy is in danger," he admitted in an interview with NBC's Cleveland affiliate on Tuesday that he hadn't even read the Bush administration's proposed rescue plan that was unveiled over the weekend.

Does kinda take one's breath away, don't it?

Well, Mr."gonna ride in on a white horse and save the day" McCain has some 'splainin' to do...

Turns out he spent 2 hours yesterday with Lynn de Rothschild, super richie rich woman, seeking campaign contributions. I don't think she's one of the 'economic advisers' he was supposedly conferring with over our national crisis - the excuse he gave for not returning Sen. Obama's call for 6 hours.

Seriously, how many people who are voting "Aye!" on this thing have read it entirely?

I'm guessing no more than three. Of those three, probably zero understand it.

The plan that's referred to is 3-pages long, Anton.

Since he wanted to postpone the debate and suspend the campaign (but not really since he did go to see Katie and stay in NY to give a speech) you would think that he would read it just to escape being called a horses ass.

One would think McCain would have at least spent 15 minutes reading it on his plane as he charged to D.C. to solve this crisis LOL

3 pages.

He was probably catching up on his sleep.

Besides, he's got a campaign manager who spent years in the financial industry's pocket who can tell him what to do.

What is more likely is that he had a trusted aide read it and then give him the Cliff's notes version of it.

Before any of you go apeshit, let me preface my next comment in 2 ways:

1. While McCain may be genuine in wanting to get meaningful legislation passed, this was also a calculated political ploy on his part IMO.

2. My next comment is one of generality - I am not necessarily talking about McCain.

A good executive builds a strong team. Each team member has a clearly defined role and is given the latitude to excersize their role with a fair amount of autonomy. Legislators and executives are flooded with an almost unfathomable amount of information via over-sized and long-winded reports and whatnot. Reading every word would not only be physically impossible, but would also be a counter-productive waste-of-time. As such, trusted aides are paid to sift through the mountains of information and succinctly summarize what is important and relevant. It's THAT information that a capable executive uses as a basis for making decisions.

My point being, that McCain didn't read this himself isn't necessarily a poor reflection on McCain.

Please, that's horse's patoot.

Obama's read it. What's wrong with McCain's reading skills?

Good points, JEFFJ.

I know. I stand by my prior comment.

JeffJ,
Normally I would agree with everything you said. However, given the gravity or the situation and the meager amount of reading required (3 pages), I don't think your comments apply.

If three pages is too much on such an important topic, then yes, it is a poor reflection on McCain.

McCain wanted 10 debates, Obama refused. Now that there is actual work to do in Washington, Obama's been told he needs to memorize some more note cards on foreign policy, while real heavy lifting is done elsewhere.

And considering the Dems told the White House that their proposal was dead on arrival anyhow--and it doesn't look anything close to what Paulson put together last weekend--what difference does it make? It's like a movie critic not being able to review a film, because he never saw the rough draft of the screenplay. BFD.

**** McCain Hasn't Even READ Treasury Plan ****

......he was too busy chasing the kids off his lawn....

How irresponsible can one man, in such a position be? Three pages? Legislatively speaking, that's an "Executive Summary!"

By the way, Obama showed up at Bush's meeting today with his Senate advisor for legislation.

McCain showed up with a campaign advisor.

By the way, Obama showed up at Bush's meeting today with his Senate advisor for legislation.
* * * *

Ummm--Obama's a legislator. What does he need an "advisor for legislation" for?

I met a pilot yesterday. He was with his advisor for flying airplanes. And today I met a journalist, and her advisor to show her how to write.

Why does a Supreme Court Judge need a clerk?

Why does RightIsRight need a brain? See post #17.

Meanwhile, McCain didn't even read the 3 page proposal. Heck, he could have had his campaign advisor do that much on his flight down to D.C. after his interview with Couric.

Oh let's cut to what's important to "the Right"

At the meeting, Obama, wearing an American flag pin, and McCain, sans lapel adornment, sat with hands folded on the shiny table top.

My point being, that McCain didn't read this himself isn't necessarily a poor reflection on McCain.

Bull shit, any executive worth his shit reads everything in it entirety and then asks questions to his staff as to things he doesn't understand for clarity.

With the attitude you occupy, no wonder our economy, government, and business's are all in the shit hole.

I don't know what level of management you have achieved yet, but if you practice this style of management, your future will not be long.

McCain upset the whole negotiation with his stunt.

Sure Moneywar, if their 'executive' duty is like yours: a night-shift counter clerk at Dunkin' Donuts.

But for REAL executives it's not possible to read everything. Congressmen can have staff of over 70 people to mostly process information.

Congressmen don't even read the 2,000-page laws they vote on. (Which were written by staffers).

As for McCain -- he was familiar with the concept, and he knows that he'll get a full explanation during the White House meeting. And he knows that the final version will be so full of payoffs and earmarks that the original doesn't mean shit.

Ditto.

You don't know what you are talking about, Moneywar.

Seems to Me it doesn't bode well if an executive doesn't read the company reports that are generated. Wouldn't You WANT an executive who took an active roll in ALL areas of how His company was functioning?? I wouldn't want someone running My Company that relied upon staffers to tell Him what He needs to know. Even I know THAT much.

Larry

It's not possible, Larry. When I worked for Sprint, the reports my dept alone generated would be too much for one person to read. Multiply that by many departments and it literally is physically impossible, even if one person read 24 hours a day and did nothing else.

That's why executives have staffs

GOAT

We're talking about a 3 page proposal that was the entire reason given by McCain for 'suspending' his campaign and flying to Washington.

You'd think he'd have bothered to know what it contained at 3 pages and the urgency in his mind.

I just read that when McCain and Boehner (House minority leader) exited Boehner's offices neither one of them had a clue what the House Republican plan was. Not even sketchy overviews. Just the House Republicans couple of talking points about 'insurance' rather than a purchase of bad debt.

If McCain can't bother to read 3 pages of the most important proposal - one that, as AU said was about the "entire reason . . for suspending his campaign" FROM his own party's President - he's not someone worth giving the Presidency. He's already shown his contempt for the United States by his choice of Palin. He either doesn't care what happens to the United States if he dies, or he's so susceptible to pressure he's incapable of running the United States.

I'm not asking Sen. McCain to read EVERYTHING, but how about reading something this short on an issue that he, himself, deemed so important as to suspend his campaign.

What will he skip reading next time? Maybe a Presidential daily briefing memo on terrorist activities? Just asking...

Well said, now what part does Sarah play, aside from fluffer?

Now, Zap.

Stop it.

You'll get Vernon hot.

I don't know about VERNON but I have a tingle running down my leg.
