True. At a minimum you'd want the state's child welfare officials to look into a situation like this one, to make sure the kids were OK, so it's good the safe haven law exists.

This is exactly what I thought when I read the story. But I am repulsed that "an official" says that is what they feared would happen. Children being put in the custody of someone who cares for their welfare? They feared this would happend?

California has a similar law allowing a parent to anonymously drop off their newborn within the first three days of giving birth at any hospital emergency room or fire station -- no questions asked.
