For Democratic leaders, it's a striking defeat as they agree to allow expanded offshore drilling in waters they once called sacrosanct, giving Republicans a rare victory on energy policy six weeks before the election. In a matter of months, Republicans turned offshore oil drilling into political gold.

Pelosi rolled over big time for big oil.

Well, at least they have to have the off-shore rigs 50 miles off shore.

Anyone with an oceanview home along California's coastline just saw
the property value of their home cut in half.

Nothing like opening the drapes of your oceanview home in the morning and have to stare at beauty of a big ol'off-shore oil rig pumping away.

Pelosi tried to build a firewall.

She crafted legislation that would have opened all areas beyond 50 miles to drilling, but only if states went along with sharing any of the royalties from the oil to be pumped. It passed the House and died.
.....she scrapped the proposal.

Trust me, there will not be a single new offshore oil rig established let alone producing oil for at least 10 or 12 years. The lead-time for traditional land based drill rigs is already a several years, so why would anyone think that 'drill, baby drill' will have any effect for years, and after that amount of time, exactly what are we going to be getting in terms of oil production and how much will it be compared to our consumption at that time?

Sorry, OldBadBruiser, but you're crazy if you think that we're not going to need oil in a few years. Why shouldn't we use our own? You've been reading too much from Barackaby Baby's website. By the way, he's for drilling now, too. After he was against it.

When is $4. gas a blessing?...when there isn't ANY!
Now lets windfall profit tax those mostly foreign owned big oil bastards right out of the US...and not develop our own resources. That'l show em!

How do you say pretty please in Brazilian?

Too save you some time trying to insult...I do know what language they speak in Brazil.

Nothing like opening the drapes of your oceanview home in the morning and have to stare at beauty of a big ol'off-shore oil rig pumping away.

Frankly, I could careless, these are the exact same people who are screamin for more drilling and supporting the bush and republicans, let them get what they wish for.

Chris,
Can you actually see an oil rig 50 miles away from the shore? Your eyesight is definitely better than mine.

I didn't realize the legislation mandated the oil stay in the US. I just assumed it would be put on the world market.

Besides cheap wine what else is California good for. We need the oil and they should be drilling on Malibu Beach to get it.

you're crazy if you think that we're not going to need oil in a few years.
Cook-even the oil companies say the first oil is 7-10 years away.

As for Reps scoring-it just took drill baby drill out of Mcsame's hands. Remember, he wasn't exactly a fan of offshore until Dubya told him to be.

Pelosi had to eat dirt.
Too bad it wasn't lead.

First: Where did he say we're not going to need oil in a few years?

Second: What make you believe that oil pumped from close to our coasts will stay in the U.S.?

We need the oil and they should be drilling on Malibu Beach to get it.

You have some kind of proof that this is going to increase the immediatly available suppy? I'd sure like to see it.

Not old enough to actually buy wine, are ya?

And, don't know much about California at all, dumbass. Ever heard of Huntington Beach? You know, Surf City USA??

That's an oil well, doofus.

The same people who are now pushing the bailout were behind the idea for more drilling. Good luck with that. Suckers. And the sad part is, the only purpose for "drill baby drill" was to give McCain something to campaign on....and so far it ain't working. Too bad the economy imploded before they planned.

Lib Logic: Tell the farmer that he shouldn't plant any seeds because that won't help our food supply immediately and if he ever harvests the crop it will probably be sold overseas anywa so why bother.

I have never met a lib with any logical thoughts, only emotional outbursts and a bovine sense of collectivism.

Bwahahahha. The Democrats get another boot in their Majority ass.

Your response to Chris' dumb post was pure stupidity. Left Coast Liberals own beach-front houses in California, you dipshit.

These are the same people who drive their SUV 400 miles to attend a demonstration against a new power plant, and when they get home realize they left the a/c running.

Like all Liberals, they don't live in reality.

I still say fuck 'em, but for completely different reasons. Maybe seeing an oil rig once in a while will remind them of what powers their cars, refrigerators, stereos, espresso machines and bread makers.

Might even remind them that the illegal Mexicans who do the yard work and clean the house pay the same prices.

I didn't realize the legislation mandated the oil stay in the US. I just assumed it would be put on the world market.

ATTENTION ALL LIBERALTARDS:

Domestically produced oil, by law, must stay in the United States. The only exception is Alaska oil, which mostly goes to Japan -- Japan is closer to Alaska than any U.S. facilities.

And it does not matter anyway, to the price. Oil is a global commodity, like corn, lumber and orange juice. The price is set globally.

Where it matters is in how the money moves. If Americans buy more American oil then the money does not transfer to other countries. That's a good thing.

Hey Libs! Repeat after me: DRILL BABY DRILL! Now take the money you are going to save (thanks to the people and Republicans) and buy some Kleenex.

Oil is a global commodity, like corn, lumber and orange juice. The price is set globally.

By The Verminator.

OK verm, I'll bite.
Since Oil IS a global commodity-what makes you retards think that once it DOES start flowing-OPEC won't just adjust their output to keep the price up?

I know-I know-you keep using your own calculator.....
Thanks fer playin'.

Hey Frank2.5, no birthing women to tell you how they can feel you penetrating tonight?

Citgo is Owned by the Venezuelan Oil Co.

BP is British Petroleum-One of our Companies owns a partial stake-but still...

as for the rest-according to the sources I looked at-at least 45% of them are owned by "Mutual Funds" "Private Investors", and Other "Institutional Investors".
In other words-very little of the money stays here.
I'm not sure, but I THINK it's called "Globalization"-SOMETHING THE RETHUGLICUNTZ HAVE BEEN PUSHING ON US FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS-AND YES-I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT SOME DEMS HAVE TOO.

Exactly. the democrats and the repubs both knew that a majority of americans, according to all the polls, needed a good screwing so they obliged them. but the good part is that the oil companies can be very grateful for a job well done.

In a matter of months, Republicans turned offshore oil drilling into political gold.

Really, Kerrin?
From what I can see-all they've won-

is another ass-raping for the rest of us.

This crap isn't any fun anymore. I'm tired of being taken advantage of by foreigners and Big Business, and then told by the rethugs it's a good thing.

No shit? Learn to deal with walking. Lord knows his half-brother has.

Frank, I explained this on another thread a couple of weeks ago, but you must've missed it.

What you say is true, of course -- OPEC simply needs to decrease their output (and their revenues) to keep oil at a sustained price. However, if we are importing only 30% instead of the current 50% (or whatever it is) the extortion stick they beat us with will have much less power. Also, in the case of an outright embargo as in the '70s, we will be missing only 30% of what we need to operate this country instead of 50%. Painful, yes, but not as painful if we have our own readily available supplies.

Now let's wait as the usual goatman trolls crawl out of the slime and start their usual, predictible shrill cries of "OIL SHILL! OIL SHILL!"

but not as painful if we have our own readily available supplies.

Wow, thanks. Sounds like you've now given me title to some nice beachfront property in California
along with a nice SUV 400.

Say, can you give me the address of the California oceanfront home I'm suppose to own? And is that SUV 400 you say I drive sitting in the driveway of my fancy new beach house? Hope the keys are in it. Next time you find yourself on PCH some sunny afternoon be sure and drop by my beach house. I'll roll a few joints, make us a batch of tofu sandwiches, put some strawberry wine in a cooler, and we can have a picnic on the beach. Oh yeah, and guess if I'm a true lefty/hippie-type -- like you say everyone in California is -- then my picnic on the beach should be "swimsuits optional" too. Can you handle it, big boy? LOL

You just gave him cardiac arrest.

How do you say pretty please in Brazilian?

Three Brazilian Soldiers

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

Jim DeMint caught that sneaking little weasel Reid...

demint.senate.gov

We've just been alerted that despite House Democrats relenting on extending bans on offshore drilling and oil shale in the continuing resolution (CR) appropriations bill, Democrat Senate Leader Harry Reid has decided to sneak an extension of the oil shale ban through as Congress fights over the financial bailout. Oil shale in America's West is estimated to hold be between 800 billion and 2 trillion barrels of oil -- that is more than three times the proven oil reserves in Saudi Arabia alone.

Here is the text of Reid's proposed new ban on oil shale, that he is trying to add as an amendment to the CR or move seperately as a "stimulus" package, or we should say an anti-stimulus package if this is included.

Sec 1602 continues ban on oil shale. The language follows:

SEC. 1602. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, including section 152 of division A of H.R. 2638 (110th Congress), the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act, 2009, the terms and conditions contained in section 433 of division F of Public Law 110161 shall remain in effect for the 19 fiscal year ending September 30, 2009.
It would be an insult to all Americans if Senate Democrats worked to bailout Wall Street while damaging our future prosperity by banning development of vast energy reserves in oil shale.
