Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

John McCain says he's directing his staff to work with Barack Obama's campaign to delay Friday's presidential debate because of the economic crisis. The Republican presidential hopeful called Obama before he made the statement and told him he was going to suspend his campaign, according to a McCain senior adviser, to create a "political free zone" until the bailout deal is reached.

McCain's getting more and more ridiculous, day by day.

He is pulling a Carter.

It is almost sad to watch him give up like this.

Postpone the debates??? Right when America is hungry to know what the two candidates think about all of this. Personally I want the subject of the debate changed to be about the economy.

Desn't this mean that in essence McCain is saying Obama is better than He is??

Typical drivel. If hussein suggested suspending the debate you would have been an enthusiastic supporter.

OMG... I can't stop laughing at "McPoopy Pants"..... oh god thats funny

Its a win/win for both camps.

That way they won't have to field questions about the roles their advisors (Gramm for McCain, Rubin for Obama) played in making this fiasco possible.

They should suspend the whole election. Then when Bush's time is up we can just have a free-for-all. We'd be better off than with one of these nincompoops.

He should suspend his campaign. His duty as a senator is more important right now.

McCain is getting beat up so much the past week for being out of touch, ignorant about the economy, having created this mess it is no surprise that he would go into hiding now.

Cue the right to say how leaderlike this is.

"Typical drivel. If hussein suggested suspending the debate you would have been an enthusiastic supporter."

So I guess you know everything you want to about the positions of both candidates on this bailout???
You call me partisan for disagreeing about delaying the debate but then mindlessly attack me for even having an opinion. In truth if I said the sky was blue you'd attack it.

"In a statement, McCain said he will stop campaigning after addressing former President Clinton's Global Initiative session on Thursday and return to Washington to focus on the nation's financial problems."
news.yahoo.com

In other words, he's going to suspend his campaign after finishing doing what he was going to do anyway this week?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

"He should suspend his campaign. His duty as a senator is more important right now."

You may be right, but I have hard time believing that he is doing this out of a sincere concern for the economy.

GREAAAAT! Now the economic crisis is going to become a political football becasue NO ONE trusts SHRUBIE to get us out of this one.

The BIG CRASH is coming folks. Get your gold ready.

Stock up on food and supplies. This is gonna be UGLY!

Typical drivel.

McCain is a sad excuse for a person. This is a bunch of crap. There are 98 other senators and 300+ other house members and this fool wants to postpone the debate... McCain is scared to lose.

He has to try to change the subject because his campaign is bleeding out. Rick Davis with Fannie Mae, Palin with the troopergate and now the economy and he can't keep up.

Get your old ass out of the race if you can't keep up. There are no Time Outs here.

This is a bunch of crap. Pure politics.

Maybe Johnny Poopy pants doesn't think he can make it thru the debate without "Pooping his pants"

In other words, he's going to suspend his campaign after finishing doing what he was going to do anyway this week?

My friends,
My work as a senator at this
time of economic uncertainty,
albeit I am not versed on the
economy is far more important than
me being made a fool of on Friday by
Obama. It is just not
more important than the other things
I was gonna do. Like eat my
strawberries.

-John "Groundhog" McCain.

He should suspend his campaign. His duty as a senator is more important right now.

I couldn't disagree more. McCain and Obama have an opportunity hear to show real presidential leadership *before* an election. They should both be campaigning like hell on the economic crisis, lead the votes on the issue in Congress, and let Americans judge who's right.

McCain looks like he's hiding something here. It seems like a risky stunt.

You may be right, but I have hard time believing that he is doing this out of a sincere concern for the economy.

----

I would rather they both suspend and focus on this issue than putter around giving stump speeches. Here's a chance for them to address and act on the issue instead of blabbering about it.

. . .McCAIN SHITS HIS PANTS - SUSPENDS CAMPAIGN

.......Palin offers Trig's diapers to address crisis.....

"He should suspend his campaign. His duty as a senator is more important right now."

If he's really so concerned, he can withdraw as a candidate for President. The RNC can convene and appoint a new nominee.

Pirate, it's a ridiculous stunt...kinda like nominating Palin for Veep.

By this logic, I would only buy the "it's the right thing to do" position if Shrub had similarly postponed his record-setting vacations because we are fighting two simultaneous wars.

Chirp...

Brilliant move! Now Obonehead will be forced to commit to some position on the subject. Then McCain can ask him about those rich fat-cat Republican supporters of Obama who made out with with 140 million dollars from the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac corruption....Franklin Rains and Jim Johnson.

Oh wait a minute, those supporters are also Obama's economic advisors! That would make them Democrats!

Never mind!

This is a bunch of crap. Pure politics.

He may hold the deciding vote on the bailout. You don't think that's an little more important the the other 98?

If this doesn't sink this asshole 20 points in the poll I will be amazed.

I couldn't disagree more. McCain and Obama have an opportunity hear to show real presidential leadership *before* an election. They should both be campaigning like hell on the economic crisis, lead the votes on the issue in Congress, and let Americans judge who's right.

----

Proof's in the pudding. Talk doesn't mean squat (empty campaign promises like gas tax holiday). Real Presidential leadership is accomplishing something...not just talking about it.

What time is the concession speech?

Hmmmmm

Down by 9 pts.
Palin bounce done
Press pissed
Economy in the can
Can't keep on point
About to get my ass handed to me in a debate

Let's take a break

If it's a stunt, then it will show as a stunt. Regardless of their campaigns, these two are still US Senators and have a job to do.

And for the record, I'm not voting for McCain or Obama.

"He has to try to change the subject because his campaign is bleeding out. Rick Davis with Fannie Mae, Palin with the troopergate and now the economy and he can't keep up."

#16 | Posted by shawng1

The debate would have effectively changed the subject as it was about foreign policy, when right now everyone's concern is the economy.

He's actually addressing the concern that is on everyone's mind right now by doing this, though I feel it is probably a political stunt / chickenshitting out of the debate.

"McCain looks like he's hiding something here. It seems like a risky stunt."

Yep, Unca Karl's advice doesn't seem to be what it useta.

I'm taking bets right now with 2;1 odds that they both vote the same way.

My money is with yours on that one.

Lipz - I posted a question to you on the White Supremacist thread.

It is hilarious that McAncient, a self proclaimed "novice" at economic policy, is hightailing it to Washington to deal with an economic crisis.

Can't he say "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" from the campaign anymore?

He should suspend his campaign. His duty as a senator is more important right now.

I couldn't disagree more. McCain and Obama have an opportunity hear to show real presidential leadership *before* an election. They should both be campaigning like hell on the economic crisis, lead the votes on the issue in Congress, and let Americans judge who's right.

Mr Magoo is afraid that we might actually talk about the "issues" something he is not very good at.

There is no such thing as a time-out in life.

It's the Economy Stupid. So let's talk about it!

No Bailout for the banks!

If we are going to "throw" hundreds of billions of OUR money at this throw some my way please!

Here is an idea....

You know, the "small" bailout now PAST, not the big one(s) coming up.
Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in
a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000
bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman
and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a
We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife have $595,000.00.

pass it around!

I say let it all fail.

Either way we go it's going to hurt, and hurt bad.

If we let these institutions fail, the economy will suffer longer, but if we bail these assholes out, we'll all be on the line for at least $10,000 per family.

Let it fail.

Donnerboy for President!

McCain has shown leadership here. Malfunction of financial services is no joke and $700 billions is no joke.

Bravo McCain: you are ready to lead.

I think McCain is thus signing on to the bailout though with restrictions just like Obama. This may actually not be a political stunt and the situation could be as dire as the administration says. Like the boy who called wolf too many times our president has no credibility and thus even if he is warning us of a real danger it is hard to believe him.

This "bailout" smacks of a manufactured crisis on the part of Bushco. This bailout has been in the works for at least six months, yet now it is urgently needed?

Do folks really believe Obama the stutterer...the man from 57 states...the man who often doesn't know the name of the city in which he's campaigning....the man who invents names for medical hardware (Inhilator...LOL), is really going to win a debate with McCain?

Both of these Senators should be studying and questioning this bill....it's an important issue and it needs/deserves the full attention of each of them. There two respective votes may indeed be critical to the outcome of this important farce and new precedent that may be set. I do believe the DR commentary would be different had Obama suggested this. On the other hand, I think that politically (note, I said POLITICALLY, yet it is very RESPONSIBLE) speaking....it was a stupid thing for McCain to do.

He may hold the deciding vote on the bailout. You don't think that's an little more important the the other 98?

HELL NO HE WON'T. THIS VOTE WON'T EVEN BE CLOSE. THEY WILL GET SOMETHING PASSED. THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION WANTS EVERYTHING WITH NO ACCOUNTABILITY, THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

MCCAIN CAN CALL TIMEOUT BUT AT HIS OWN PERILE. IF I WAS OBAMA, I WOULD GO AND DEBATE MYSELF... F**K JOHN MCCAIN.

NOVEMBER 4TH IS NOT UP FOR DEBATE, THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION WILL TAKE PLACE ON THAT DAY.

MCCAIN CAN STALL ALL HE WANTS TO.

Well, Grampy Poopy Pants has probably figured out just how serious this is and understands that he no longer has the mental acuity needed to deal with more than one issue or crisis at a time. I applaud him for understanding his limitations. I worry about what would happen if he had more than one crisis at a time to deal with should, God forbid, he actually become president. Would he try to 'suspend' one crisis to handle the other? And how would he choose which would be more urgent? There is no way McBush is qualified at this point in time to be our president. We've had 8 years of one man unable to do the job. We won't survive another 4!

I already spent my 143 days in the senate, I don't have anymore to do there. - Hussein

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.
- - Obama voter

Do your math again retard. It's $425, not $425k.

Update: The Obama campaign released this statement: "At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a joint statement outlining their shared principles and conditions for the Treasury proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal. At 2:30 this afternoon, Senator McCain returned Senator Obama's call and agreed to join him in issuing such a statement. The two campaigns are currently working together on the details."

BS. Where's Spain?

The Iraq war was serious too. Sadam Hussein had weapons of Mass destruction

"The Obama campaign said Obama had called McCain around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to propose that they issue a joint statement in support of a package to help fix the economy as soon as possible. McCain called back six hours later and agreed to the idea of the statement, the Obama campaign said. McCain's statement was issued to the media a few minutes later."

It's obvious what happened here. McCain tried to get ahead of the issue by pulling this stunt.

voices.washingtonpost.com

Behind McCain's Decision to Suspend His Campaign
Sen. John McCain's surprise announcement that he would temporarily suspend his campaign to return to Washington to help broker a deal to save the financial industry is the latest of a series of political gambits surrounding the financial crisis on Wall Street, and is sure to reshape the political calculations around the volatile issue.

The move is an obvious attempt by McCain and his campaign to paint the Arizona senator as above politics, willing to put aside his campaign for the good of the country. It also comes as two new national polls -- including one conducted by the Washington Post -- show McCain slipping in the head to head matchup against Barack Obama due in large part to voters' willingness to trust the Illinois Senator to solve the financial problems of the country.

"So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00."

As of September 9, 2008 McCain has missed 408 out of Senate 639 votes cast in the current 110th Congress, or 63.8%; the worst Senate attendance record of the current 110th Congress.
The second-worst Senate attendance record is held by Tim Johnson (D-SD), who suffered a brain hemorrhage on Dec. 13, 2006 and spent several months recovering. Johnson has missed 311 votes, or 48.7%.

Obama comes in third, with 291 votes missed, or 45.5%.

Yeah, they should stay in Washington and lie to us from there.

What a load of crap. McCain uses this crisis to Grandstand for his own political future. He is not needed in Washington to do anything. He has no decisions to make that he couldn't make on his plane, and he has no one to lead that he couldn't lead from his plane.

He just doesn't want to look like an ass on national TV any sooner than necessary. Not only has he been Absent John in the Senate, now he is Absent John in the campaign. If he gets elected, he will probably be Absent John in the Presidency. He looks like he could use a four year vacation.

He's over. No one wants a candidate who's got Phil Gramm hanging around his neck like a millstone. That is what this is about, make no mistake. The more time McThusaleh spends on Capitol Hill and the less time he spends with campaign-trail reporters who're just itching to ask him some very pointed questions about his part in creating this crisis, the better off he'll be, by his reckoning.

www.mccainfactcheck.com

Damn! I had already bought Kahlua and vodka for my Black Russians and popped up bowls of popcorn getting ready for Friday night's debate.

McCain is terrified to go into a debate with Obama because Obama will clean his clock. If there was ever a time when Americans need to hear a debate by the candidates on the issues -- especially their viewpoints pertaining to the economy -- it's NOW.

I think Obama should say just what I wrote above and not gone along with McCain. The ONLY time they should have cancelled a debate is if it happened to be scheduled on the same day as a possible Senate vote on the $700 billion bailout in which case both Obama and McCain should be there to vote.

BTW -- Bush is scheduled to give a special speech tonight at 9:00 PM. to try and shove his $700 billion bailout down the throat of the American public. Bush sure is in a hurry to get his bailout bill passed fast with no reviews, no discussion or debate, no changes -- just give sleezy Bush his blank check for $700 billion.

I was silent, but Obonehead says it loud and clear! LOL....LOL. Go listen and stop the denial.

Null--

Yes--Obama called McCain first and if you say McCain raised the bet--then Obama better call it.

My bet is that McCain was thinking of this when that reporter asked him yesterday about his being the vote that mattered and what would it be.

McCain says he doesn't like the idea of giving 1 trillion dollars without oversight or accountability and the bill will not pass.

So McCain made his decision and he's postponed ads and the debate until next week.

--Just in--

Obama wants the debate to go forward.

Should be interesting how the empty suit goes forward.

Isn't this being handled at the committee level right now?

And neither Obama, nor McCain is on the Senate Finance Committee.

And if I'm not mistaken, this is in front of the House Finance Committee now.

So what the hell does McCain thinks he's going to accomplish?

LOL

Theo Nebs,

you are delusional. Mr. 894 out of 899 couldn't debate a 5yr old without a stack of talking points in front of him. He knows it and was hoping to get some ammunition (or just be able to tell the truth) before he had to go into one. Since that hasn't happened, he is postponing everything. Next thing you will see is a postponement of the Biden / Palin debate.

"What a load of crap. McCain uses this crisis to Grandstand for his own political future. He is not needed in Washington to do anything. He has no decisions to make that he couldn't make on his plane, and he has no one to lead that he couldn't lead from his plane." - BUFF

Virtually the same argument put forth when Dubya takes off for Texas. Perhaps the biggest difference is that McCain (and Obama) could be SEEN on the FLOOR of the Senate debating the topic and, likely, actually vote on it.

Appearance & imagery are powerful. McCain wants to be seen as a 'country first' take charge sort of guy and this suspension dovetails nicely with that. Obama has free will and can elect to push onward by himself. Will that help Obama's image?

BIGGEST...PUSSY....EVER

2 QUESTIONS --

Since this $700 billion bailout bill might very well still be being debated in Congress for another few weeks does that mean there will be NO debates at all since that's the excuse McCain has given for backing out -- no debate until a bailout bill deal is reached?

And what about the VP debate between Sarah! and Joe?
Is their debate scheduled for October 2 also a no go?

Aside from dictatorships no one suspends the political process even during wartime. It's called democracy. The civil war and ww2 are prime examples.

This is really a poor example of McCain's ability to lead in a complex world.

QUESTION:

If folks are sooooooo confident Mr.Obonehead will win the debate, then why did Mr.Obonehead refuse to debate in the numerous opportunities he was given when McCain asked him? Remember all those declined townall debates that never happened? All because Obamacoward declined!

Yep, I'm sure McCain is just quaking in his boots when it comes to debating that empty suit stutterer!

LOL...LOL!

Uh huh. He stood up to years at the Academy and flight school, and for years of torture at the hands of the NVA. But he's going to be panicked and scared to death before an effete two-year Senator who can't function unless there's a teleprompter scrolling his speech for him.

What? The old fucker can't multitask?

Maybe Obama can take this opportunity to debate his own running mate. LOL

McCain is looking for ANY excuse not to have to go against Obama in a debate.
It has nothing to do with making anything a "political free zone" until the $700 billion bailout bill is completed. "Country First" my ass. McCain is just a coward.

Hilarious.

Geezer, if McCain made one quarter the gaffes that Obonehead makes, you might have a case for calling him senile. But now what to do with the 25 year old bonehead who's too old to be senile? How do you justify his commanding ability to debate when he's so damn stupid?

LOL...LOL....LOL

McCain suspends campaign???
Just how does that work???
Everything he says will be followed by reporters and will effect the public's perception so obviously he will still be trying to say things that curry favor with the voters.
Once begun I don't really think a campaign can be suspended unless suspension is synonymous with ending it as per Hilary Clinton.

McCain says he doesn't like the idea of giving 1 trillion dollars without oversight or accountability and the bill will not pass.

#93 | Posted by MURPHY

...and yet he has been more than enthusiastic about borrowing and spending 1 trillion on the Iraq war. By the time we repay it, with interest, it will be one and one/half trillion.

Aside from dictatorships no one suspends the political process even during wartime.
* * * *

Psst. Retard. Last I checked, passing necessary legislation is the "political process". After all, this is the kind of rich experience that Obamaniacs tell us he has so much of.

But you're right, in a way. Let Obama give his speeches to adoring crowds at the Podunk County Fair, while McCain returns to deal with more urgent business.

45 year old bonehead...LOL

PW Songbird was already lowering expectations for the debates because he knew Obama was going to embarrass him. This stunt just puts off the inevitable.

Republican presidential nominee John McCain began playing down expectations for Friday night's first general election debate, saying Democratic rival Barack Obama is "very, very good."

As he met with voters and campaign volunteers at Baldwin Wallace College, McCain played up the importance of Ohio and noted Obama's "eloquence."

"All of you know the history lesson that the last person who succeeded in becoming president of the United States without winning the state of Ohio was Jack Kennedy,'' McCain said. "And that's been a long time."

He said the debate would be a major event in the campaign.

"Look, have no doubt about it, the capabilities of Senator Obama to a debate -- I mean, he's very, very good," McCain said. "He was able to beat Sen. Hillary Clinton who, as we all know, is very accomplished, very accomplished."

McCain said that Obama "was able to, I think, with his eloquence inspire a great number of Americans. So, these are going to be tough debates."

voices.washingtonpost.com

we held the last election in the middle of 2 shooting wars.

"But he's going to be panicked and scared to death before an effete two-year Senator who can't function unless there's a teleprompter scrolling his speech for him."

YOu speak as if Obama didn't compete in many debates already and he did just fine...in fact...surprise...he ended up with the nomination.

TENDFAN...

Oh TENDFAN????

Where'd ya go buddy?

The silence is deafening!

LOL...LOL...LOL

McCain's last Senate vote was in March of this year. Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a brain tumor, had surgery, radiation, chemo, and has voted on the floor of the Senate, all since then.

I understand that McCain might be a little behind on his Senate duties. Tell you what. We'll cut you some slack. Let your trusted presidential surrogate fill in for you. Obama v Palin. Foreign policy. This Friday.

45 year old bonehead...LOL

Theo,

The DR is no place for ISO personals!

THEONEBS- what truly makes me sad is that, despite your apparent lack of critical thinking skills or cognitive abilities, you're going to continue to post your ignorant crap here.

Since you posted said crap without any reference, I did some digging to see what Obama gaffe you were writing about. www.youtube.com

Just for the record, an "inhilator" is an actual device. It's not used for asthma (that's an inhaler), but it is something that smokers use to quit.
He still used the wrong word, no doubt, but he's not "making up medical devices" as you implied.

You partisan dick.

"Uh huh. He stood up to years at the Academy and flight school, and for years of torture at the hands of the NVA. "

RisR

Let's see...McCain graduated at the bottom of both his graduating class at the Academy and in flight school. He was not a fighter pilot but a bomber. He crashed a few planes in the process. And he didn't have much choice in the matter of being a POW except he was such a bad pilot he got shot down.

What are his achievements again?

Maybe Obama can take this opportunity to debate his own running mate. LOL

FF for AA

They want the bill done by Monday and McCain can get the Republican support if there are conditions.

Obama wants to debate himself or youtube--debating Biden is a thought...

Hey, go ahead and list the Keating Five and the outcome of the investigations.

John McCain was criticized for having exercised "poor judgment".

Just what we need in a President.

"Hmmmmm

Down by 9 pts.
Palin bounce done
Press pissed
Economy in the can
Can't keep on point
About to get my ass handed to me in a debate

Let's take a break"

Maybe 'Let's take a nap'

didnt hercule perot from Tx take a time out from his campaign back in 96?

YEAH!

Back in the Day when someone failed to meet you at the agreed time on the Quad after school, it meant they were a Pussy!

But hey, that's when "Conservative" actual meant something real, too!

Uh huh. [McCain] stood up to years at the Academy and flight school, ...

Bullpoop. McCain graduated 5th from the BOTTOM of his class at the Naval Academny. If McCain were not the son and grandson of Navy Admirals he would never have gotten into the Naval Academy in the first place. Nor without his connections would McCain have been allowed to get into a second cockpit after he crashed his first jet -- let alone have been given a chance to crash four more.

You asked for it TENDFAN, and I provided it. Now you back pedal!

I guess "critical thinking" for you is the inability to admit you were wrong, and then accuse me of an inabilitity to think critically.

LOL...what a marooon!

Name the other four Zap and the outcome of the investigation of them. LOL.

Does this mean that the fundamentals of our economy aren't so strong after all????

Aside from dictatorships no one suspends the political process even during wartime. It's called democracy. The civil war and ww2 are prime examples.

This is really a poor example of McCain's ability to lead in a complex world.

Exactly, there is "no-time" out in REAL LIFE.

"Psst. Retard. Last I checked, passing necessary legislation is the "political process". After all, this is the kind of rich experience that Obamaniacs tell us he has so much of."

Hey fucktard you can do both it's called overtime. Haven't seen much of that lately from Gramps McCain have we?

I'd hate to see what choice he makes when he's between two difficult situations.

He can't even handle one difficult situation and a debate.

The moderator will start the debate, Obama will answer "present" and we'll be back to our regulary scheduled programming.

Name the other four Zap and the outcome of the investigation of them.LOL

I've mentioned every single one running for President.

Mc Poor Judgment!

.....wisgod, stop it. Kindergarten inexperienced children learn to say PRESENT before anything else. He'll gain more experience over time. America just needs to be patient with him.
