Anybody that thinks you can be a maverick and be in government doesn't understand politics.

Politics uses diplomacy and diplomacy is just another way to disquise meaning, or as i call it, to lie. Politics = lies, good politicians = good liars, mavericks = the best liars because they play boths sides against the middle.

How is someone going to pass legislation that is anathema to their contributors (corporations) interests?

Actually a maverick is a stray bull calf that hasn't been cut and branded. So McCain most definitely isn't a maverick. He was cut and branded a long time ago.
