Not since Nelson Rockefeller served as vice president during the Ford administration has a senior government official arrived in Washington with such a high net worth. Paulson owns some 4.58 million shares in Goldman Sachs (including restricted stock) worth about $700 million at today's price and surely has millions more in other instruments.

Shouldn't this raise eyebrows and require some honest answers from Paulson?

At the very least he should divest himself of all Wall Street stock. If he took a loss, so be it. I'm sure he can live comfortably on $100,000,000.

Soooprise!

What an asshole.

The only money that is going to get protected is that money the protected elite political class have investments.

Did anyone actually expect anything different.

Hank is looking at his portfolio and deciding that throwing a trillion in taxpayer money to protect his assets is what is needed.

I'm amazed Paulson hasn't already divested himself of this long ago. What a conflict of interest.

Kind of like Rick Davis, McCain's Cam. Man. still getting $15K a month until last month because he 'has access to McCain'.

BTW, story out today: McCain was FOR allowing insurance corps. and others to do an end run to Bermuda to avoid U.S. taxes. Posted from the Washington Times lest I be called partisan:

Well why do you think GS wont go under?

When you watch the talking heads on TV all we hear is "he's the right man for the job" and other such crap. Nothing like the wolf guarding the hen house to insure that average Americans will get shafted and the wealthy, well connected members of the aristocracy will be protected.
