Crews excavating the World Trade Center site this summer for the foundations of a new skyscraper have uncovered features carved into the bedrock by glaciers about 20,000 years ago, including a 40-foot-deep pothole.

That is very cool, Just makes you stop and ponder how much has happened to this poor ole rock we call earth over the milennium.

I'd love to take a look before they blast it

Why didn't they find it when the WTC was built? Did they not have to dig as deep then? Just curious...

But, but, but, this global warming thing just really picked up steam since Bush has been in office. What's this now? Glaciers their over 20,000 years ago. Hey they only started melting recently.....oh, wait.

Ride on

your post was laughable, hopefully I missed the sarcasm, and if I did I apologize. If not you showed your true ignorance.......most of earths conditions or periods of warmth and cold are believed by most scientist to have a cyclical basis. Man-made global warming just means we have affected the clock, and conditions for those periods( in this case a speeding up of atmospheric/oceanic). Unfortunately instead of studying, and learning and growing from exposures like this most people dismiss as gobbledy-gook since they don't understand it, or since it is WAY outside of the realm of what their religion tells them has occured.

"But...But...But, the earth is only 6,000 years old..."

Signed Takitez, Johnson and Grendel.

Not as impressive as the geologic formations they've found, but here in Chicago; not too long ago, a construction crew was abating a block of radioactive Thorium, not too far from where I work.

The crew was digging up very old bottles and dishes, it was like a 19th century archeology site.

They laid all the stuff they found on a board and a couple of saw horses, it was cool to walk by and see all the old stuff that had been buried for decades.

Grendel said that? Boy, I gotta read his posts more carefully.

So that means that if we do not interrupt the normal cycle with man made global warming we will go into another ice age (the earth is gradually cooling btw).

So would you like it too hot or too cold?

"What is the future for Arctic sea ice? Some scientists believe that in just five years the Arctic may be ice-free during the summer.

"The Arctic is kind of the early warning system of the climate," said Meier. "It is the canary in the coal mine, and the canary is definitely in trouble.""

LOL, you admonish the "deserving" and yet you dove on fragile reefs, destroying that delicate ecosystem sending reef dwellers to their death and closer to extinction. But, hey it was good for you.

You need to think more on a long-term scale and not just the past 100 years where we have been coming out of an ice age.

Look at the past 100 million years for example:
maps.grida.no

"Look at the past 100 million years for example"

Except that it may explain _what_ happened over the past 100 million years, but doesn't explain what is happening _now_, and _why_.

Who cares!

Just build the damn thing already.

I have to admit I am mostly amazed by the fact that an Ice Age article got up here and after 4 hours there are no lame wisecracks about finding little Johnny McCain's pet dinosaur leash in the pothole. Until now, I suppose. Sorry folks.

dont think for a second bin laden still doesn't want to blast the US back to the stone age.

Who cares!

Just build the damn thing already.

So now, Bush is also a general contractor. Not bad for a dumb guy.

Your Bush obsession knows no ends, does it?

They new it when they did the soil borings. Every major building has them. They bore down and identify the different soils, rock formations etc.

More smokescreen media news for the WTC.

Get ready for a freeze folks!

Let's see which has more effect on earth's temperature: Carbon Dioxide, or Solar activity (or lack of it, as in no sunspots).

We're now entering a Maunder Minimum. All you dumb asses whose science is more politics than science...you who worry about Arctic ice melting...better stock up on wood for your wood stoves and replace those Birkenstocks with Mukluks! Don't rely on those hash pipes to keep you warm either. Ain't no amount of C02 gonna get you out of what's coming!
