Why anyone needs to chop up their genitals in order to feel whole has a tragic problem. That such a surgical procedure is available is contrary to a healthy enjoyment of one's own sexual gratification. The Library of Congress has a history of discrimination, including losing a class action lawsuit. The case was just ridiculous. Offering her the position, then rescinding the offer based solely on sex change. The hiring official didn't even bother to find out if such a change would affect her perception by those she would be working with in Congress. It doesn't help that she was super qualified for the position. The result in this case was exactly right, and hopefully they will have to pay some big money.

When I worked for a certain government agency my specialty required us to go for training at a certain National location several times annualy. A former man who had a sex change operation to become a woman was sent there many times for training. "She" must have been a bad looking man to begin with and then became a real nasty looking woman, bald head and all. When "she" would get on the elevator everyone would get off. "She" filed EEO complaints because no one would sit next to "her" in class or work with her in the lab. Anyway, a rumour started that "she" had a crush on one of the guys from my office. We never let him live it down to this day. Such was life in the wild and wacky world of political correctness.

If a person is male and has surgery they do not become "female". They are still a male. This has something to do with genetics, I think. The designation of this person as "she" is biologically wrong.

Generally speaking transsexualism, also known as gender disphoria, is treated by a psychiatrist for quite some time before any surgery is suggested. I know a few transsexual folks, to call them mentally ill is ridiculous. They are actually very well adjusted, contributing members of society who would be welcome in my home any time while some of the irrational haters who post here would not be. Some folks need to understand the phrase "live and let live." Those who can't reveal more about themselves than anything else when they express such vile thoughts about people they know absolutely nothing about.

By the way, there was a show on Sat night about 2 men (they did not know each other.. different parts of the country) who each decided they wanted to go through the process of being transformed into women. Went through the whole year living as women, etc, through all the therapy and prep, and then started the chemical and, in one case, underwent the physical surgery involved.

After living with the change for some time, then they both decided that they had changed their minds and had to undergo the process of reversal... at least to the extent possible. Now that's a tragic situation.

I cannot recall the channel (maybe MSNBC) or the title, even though they both seemed ok with where they ended up by the end of the program, it was pretty depressing to watch the whole thing play out.
