"Governments in the US and UK were so fanatically ideological about free markets they did not realize financial markets without proper rules, supervision and regulation are like a jungle where greed -- untempered by fear of loss or of punishment -- leads to eventual bust." -- economist Nouriel Roubini

Time to start growing victory gardens.
Bread will probably be 10 bucks a loaf by winter.

so let's wipe out the middle class of both countries again, said the elite

Free Markets costs too much.

A market free of regulation is a market that will FAIL.

Milton Friedman was Fraud, man!

Privitised Profits and publicly subsidised risk is unacceptable and a recipe fer global disaster.

Love of money is the root of all evil.

When people luff money more than people then the whole thing goes sideways and off the wire.

Do Not Want.

Be Well.

So much for the Anglo-Saxon theory of business. Should we be surprised. Probably a theory based society being made up of serfs and Feudal lords.

to quote an old lady that is dead now.

Money is a tool of exchange, which can't exist unless there are goods produced and men able to produce them..... Money is not the tool of the moochers, who claim your product by tears, or the looters, who take it from you by force. Money is only made possible by the men who produce. Is this what you consider evil?
*********************
The moochers and looters are the evil ones, not the money.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Timothy 6:10

Sniper- It's more like the Moneychangers being the evil one.

As i've been saying for years: free market = controlled for the benifit of the owners.

Wall Street knew all along they would be bailed out, so what did they have to lose by turning the trading floor into a casino, especially since they had their very own bought and paid for GOP to make sure there were no rules?

You want to see greed? Wait till Congress gets hold of the bail-out bucks.

Do NOT bail out the Management or the Stock holders regardless of what occurrs!

Remember these words, not ONE mention of Preferred Stock holders, Bond holders, or Owners of these firms! Just Stock Holders and Management! You and Me, the BOTTOM of the proverbial barrel!

We, the people do not deserve to be given relief, JUST the ELITE among us!

'Let the Mutual fund owners, and the individual owners of small portfolios of stocks, who just happened to own, by default, stock in these entities, go straight to hell!

They, by that same default, knew better than to buy THAT mutual fund! Let them burn with the rest of their ilk! They are undeserving! They can work an additional five or six years to retire, they're NOTHING to me!'

This could be said by either candidate, at any time in the last three or four days!

The part about not standing behind any stock purchaser or Manager was, in point of fact, said by Senator Obama! (definately NOT the fluff, just the part of not aiding stock holders, or management)

We are but chattel in a field of grain!

People who live in card board boxes, under bridges and in trailers and ghettos love money just as much as any fat juicy greedy capitalist republican pig. They are just too stupid to figure out how to get any money except for hand outs. Don't get in between those MFs and a $10 bill on the ground. All the false indignation from the left is laughable.

especially since they had their very own bought and paid for GOP to make sure there were no rules?

Remember ace, the dem controled congress has to authorize the money. Damn, did you overlook that little FACT!

The article doesn't really address the real reason for greed. It is the consumer. It is not the governments that causing the problem, but the individual. I have been to 33 different countrie on this planet and I haven't seen any that come remotely close to the degree of avarice we see in this great land of ours.

Goatman-
I feel so sorry for those lenders who were forced into such reckless loans. But I think they've learned their lesson, so I should be charged over a trillion dollars to bail them out.

hey are just too stupid to figure out how to get any money except for hand outs. Don't get in between those MFs and a $10 bill on the ground. All the false indignation from the left is laughable.

yeah especially the ones with MacCain/ Palin bumper stickers covering their Bush/Cheney ones... those fuckin' ignernt rednecks... are such trouble makers. The stoopid right loves to go on about the class of people that vote democrat. They never admit that they have the majority of the white trash vote which constitute the majority of poor. They may be stoopid but that rag head bin Ladin hasn't come back neither.

Say, Goatman, I suppose you've heard that we taxpayers will be bailing out foreign banks as well?

Oh yeah.. let me remind you that your party is sitting around putting lipstick on "leftist" policies to bail its ass out.

They truly are "NON-PRODUCERS". Anyone who is a non-producer is either a moocher or a looter.

I feel so sorry for those lenders who were forced into such reckless loans. But I think they've learned their lesson, so I should be charged over a trillion dollars to bail them out.

I disagree. Those lenders made their bed, they should be forced to sleep in it.

Goatman-
But we are going to bail them out. We're also going to bail out foreign banks.

But we are going to bail them out

I know. I still disagree with that decision nonetheless.

Goatman-
and you heard the part about bailing out foreign banks that Bush/Paulson are pushing.

and you heard the part about bailing out foreign banks that Bush/Paulson are pushing.

No. NOt really

Greed and ambition are a universal problem. The miracle of compounding interest guarantees that labor will never be on an equal footing with Capital. But compound interest contributes nothing to the nations productivity.

Money divides us by class, the more money you have the more rights you have, which is contrary to Democracy.

Bechtel tried to take control of every drop of water in Bolivia, including rain. People rioted, police shot them, but Bechtel, who had every politician in their pocket, was eventually forced out of that monopoly.

Organized people do not need to put up with abuse from rich arrogant fools. They just don't want you to know that and they own virtually all of our communication media.

"greed and ambition are a universal problem"

When I read that Marxist utopian drivel I feel like kicking some libs in the ass. Greed and ambition drive our economy. Why do people start their own business, work overtime, or work two jobs. Those greedy people are what make our economy go.

"Greed and ambition drive our economy" FWTHOM
Greed and ambition are not the same thing. Instead of "kicking some libs in the ass" why don't you just slap yourself in the face? My ass and your face are the same thing.

Its OK for an individual to be greedy and ambitious. Its NOT OK for them to operate without rules. It becomes the unsustainable disaster we now have when the rules are different for different classes of people. Rigging the system is the heart of the universal problem, obvious in the Phillipines, obscured here, but the same ol' shit.

The only force capable of limiting the abuse and gaming of the system by the Oligarchy is our Government. They are not doing their job. Instead they are rewarding the rich, powerful, scam artists while those crooks continue to fund the politicians campaigns.

Sniper- Or an interloper, or the modern day carpetbagger. And Usury is another word that applies to the modern day shylock. Their comeuppence will come just like it came in Russia and Europe.

fwt,

Ambition to better yourself is not greed. Having a good work ethic is not greed. Greed is when you just have to have everything, no matter what. Ambition is sometimes used to describe greed but that is not correct. They are not the same thing.

red,

An interloper is someone that sticks their nose in someones business. It could be bad or could be good. Usualy not good. I think carpetbaggers can be either moochers or looters. Someone who works on your sympathy or weakness to get your money is a moocher. Someone who threatens to hurt you or jail you to get your money is a looter. Neither one of them give you any value in return.

Neither one of them give you any value in return.

just like bush/cheney.

Greed is good, said Gordon Gecko. Greed runs the country, says Thommy. Others here bad-mouth the poor because they're not rich.

A little bit of greed, enough to keep your family warm in winter - is not necessarily despicable. But when you take it to a whole new level, as do the usurpers currently in power, trying to whitewash them ought to be a felony, First Amendment or no. herm

There is an oldie but goody of a sonf titled "Money".

The key lyrics that keeps coming back are "Stay away from my pile".

It seems that the money people have been using this philosophy for themselves. Of course they have most of the money.

That is "song"-my bad (as usual)

Capitalism does require a moral populace.. which is why its had such a problem in places like Russia and Mexico, where bribes to conduct business are more common than not.

(and before any idiots pile in here.. bribes do happen in the US but they are NOT commonplace.. most of us in business have a hard time even thinking of a single instance where we were asked to bribe someone to get something done.. )

Business is usually done here, even at high levels by agreement. You offer a service or product at a price, the buyer agrees, the service or product is given, and the buyer pays.. Happens routinely every day.. but try that in Mexico or Russia (not picking on them, they're just two places where I've done business).. and very often, you'll get nailed.

Capitalism does work, offers the best opportunities for people to advance, rewards hard work, and has done more to advance freedom than anything in history. Bt, it requires a moral under pinning..

A better example of every form of bribery, kick back and all around nuttiness would be the Arab countries. The term "Baksheesh" is used and covers all form of crooked business. You have to bribe someone to find out just who is the person you want to bribe. Our worst offenders wouldn't make the first cut in those countries.
