Politico: President Bush has long assumed the outcome of the Iraq war would define his legacy. But the catastrophic collapse of the housing bubble on his watch provides a new, perhaps more ominous, threat to how his stewardship will be ranked in history.

Much has been said about the character of George W. Bush but the man boils down to this---He wanted to be a popular guy while doing little more than figuratively sipping beer on the WH back porch.

He'd have done much better as president if his supporters held him to the same standards they hold their neighbors, rather than treat him as a symbol and a hero, things he never was.

The bastard has no character.
He's an empty suit-a sock puppet for the neo-cons-just like John McSame.

This was President Cheney's plan all along.

Notice that W did NOT get reckless spending money on healthcare, education, shildrens' needs or infrastructure.

He's so tight he squeaks when it comes to those things, but the checkbook is open when it comes to his base--the Haves and the Have-Mores.

I think the plan is to bankrupt the government and route our tax dollars into the hands of the wealthy. That plan is on track.

Unfair comparison to Hoover-he didn't lose two wars as well as the economy. And the Germans didn't destroy the middle of NY on his watch either.

Hoover is looking real good in comparison.

By the way, The WTC was destroyed because of Clinton's bj, or haven't you been paying attention to the Neocon posts here?

It wasn't just the bj.
The tipping point was the ceegar.

"Hoover is looking real good in comparison"

At least Hoover had the good grace not to keep the money he was paid to be president.

the economic crisis happened one year into hoover's term, so you can't fault him entirely.

this one on the other hand, seven years into bush's term...

Unfair comparison to Hoover-he didn't lose two wars as well as the economy. And the Germans didn't destroy the middle of NY on his watch either.

And, Hoover was highly intelligent.

Everything I've read about Hoover indicates he was a decent human being.
That, also, separates him from George Bush.

To be fair, Hoover, like Bush, inherited some bad policies from previous admins. Dear old Calvin Coolidge set the man up, just like Raygun and Slick Willie set us up.

And has anyone else forgotten the ills wrought by Eye-o-Newt and his Contract Hit On America?

Same game, new players. Oh well, WTF...

President Bush will exit office with dignity --- and history will vindicate him (right now liberals are too drunk with Koolaid and can't think properly about him).

President Bush will exit office with dignity

LOL

He couldn't even address the GOP faithfully at the convention in person.

I think Shrub is just the scapegoat, the fall guy. Does anybody really believe that he ever made a single decision, all on his own, or initiated a single action his entire time in the office? The man is boob and a moron, a useful tool and now they're gonna let him burn. I mean, good riddance and all that, but it would be nice to see some flaming tires tossed around the necks of the real culprits.

And yes, Hoover was a decent, intelligent human being who inherited a time-bomb. Compared to the Republicans in 2000 when they took over a healthy country and managed to completely trash it in less than 8 years, Hoover looks like quite the success story. Shrubtowns coming to a suburban area near you, soon!

Best. Drudge. Headline. Ever.

Geroge W. Hoover?

Is this another article about Dumbya and Victor Ashe?

No?

* Reads article *

Land of openly spied upon and the home of the brave?

Meh, that fucks up the whole rhthym of the piece.

Be Well.

Nope, Spud don't believe it.

He was Cheney's bitch from the get-go.

That's only gotten more and more obvious over time.

Charlie McCArthy had more volition than did Dumbya.

That sed the creeping fascism of an Orwellian dystopia begins with the emergence of a police state mentality.

And that begins with unwarranted spying.

Hoover used his secret files on people to achieve underhanded goals.

And to be able to get away with dressing up in frilly undergarments.

Do Not Want.

Be Well.

It's getting quite bad in California. Our unemployment is about 7-1/2%, many foreclosures and half-finished new homes which were never completed, and a bloated budget which is a fiscal mess. Things aren't looking too good for a lot of folks.

"As California goes, so goes the nation."

W inherited the largest surplus and turned it into the largest deficit.
In their History lessons, your children's children's children will study this corrupt, criminal, and ruthless administration.
That will be W's legacy.
I don't know how these people sleep at night.

It's official. Bush has fucked up everything he ever touched.

Hoover didn't bankrupt the treasury right before the economy collapsed. He didn't throw away thousands of American lives either. He compares quite favorably to Bush.

It's official. Bush has fucked up everything he ever touched.

Not new info but I gave you a newsworthy anyway..
