In a radio interview, John McCain repeatedly would not commit to meeting Spanish Prime Minister Jose Zapatero -- in spite of saying otherwise earlier this year -- and appeared to think he was talking about a Latin American leader. The McCain campaign's claim that McCain meant what he said is causing problems with Spain, a fellow member of NATO, according to Joshua Marshall of Talking Points Memo.

Zapatero is no friend of the US, he ran on a platform of anti war, anti americanism left wing propoganda.

The only reason why he was elected was the bombings in Spain.

McCain knew exactly what he was talking about.

And I am sure if Hussein is elected, Zapatero will visit all 57 states.

Well, there's one comment from someone who hasn't listened to the actual tape of the interview. I'm sure there will be more.

ugh...it hurts. Damn you for posting this abomination.

And more:

Of course Spain's in Latin America.
They speak Mexican in Spain, don't they?
And Mexican's related to Aztec which is related to Latin by way of the Lemurians.
How do I know this?
Emperor Ming of Mongo told me just the other day.
So there.
~John "Como Se Dice 'Buenos Dias' En Espanol" McCain

......McCain was never terribly bright......

......but now he is confused in his dimness......

Cambie Podemos Creer en!

It was clear that McCain had no idea who Jose Zapatero was at that time.

I am sure that he just forgot, but it is clear that he didn't know who the interviewer was talking about and he didn't want to look dumb.

He tried, he just failed.

Nice! Haven't seen an election GOOF this large since Quayle said he had to study Latin becasue he made so many trips to Latin America!

They asked him if he wanted to meet Prime Minister Jose Zapatero and he thought they said 'Do you want bannanas in your Cheerios?'

In any event, he threw his bowl against the wall and sobbed uncontrollably until Cindy put a rum-soaked nipple in his mouth (it was bush's nipple).

-Zapatero is no friend of the US, he ran on a platform of anti war

Gee whiz, you mean he isn't pro-war? What's wrong with the bastard, eh?

Greeaaaat. The LipzIdiot is back.

i think mccain knew exactly what the interviewer was asking, but he didn't want to say "no, I will not meet him because he did not support us". In his efforts to avoid the question, he sounded confused, but in fairness to him, he was not - its just his policy that is confused and bankrupt. Spain is a Nato Allie and should be treated no different than any other Nato allie that did not participate in the war.

" I'm talking about the President of Spain..."

"What About me What.....?"

Boy, you republicans can sure pick 'em. Even that rosey-colored Unim and Thumim-wearing Romeny is looking a little more clear headed these days....huh?

John would care more if he had a lobbyist on his payroll representing Spain, like Georgia has.

John "you want to be my friend? Pay me" McCain

McCain's an idiot for insulting a NATO member and ally with Troops in the Afghanistan war.

Do you lie everyday or is today special. Quayle never said that.

she said "I'm talking about Europe"
he replied "What About me What.....?"
the old man's hearing is gone, he thought she said
"I'm talking about your..." ("your" not "Euro..")
really sad, it would have been wise to say he didn't hear or understand the question, instead he spins it, Really sad!

old age is setting in!

For once, FruityK is correct:

As funny as it was, it was a political joke. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm always correct. You mean for once you agree with me.

I guess Zapatero realized his errors after he got plenty time to cool down.

His errors? Not necessarily in being anti Bush war (that's understandable and forgiveable), but in the way he insulted Bush --- hard to digest a foreign head of State ranting like Chavez against a sitting President.

Anyway, I would recommend McCain to rehabilitate Zapatero back to the US.

I'm always correct.

Haha. FF for you!

Takitez, you do realize that Zapatero is the Prime Minister of Spain - which is sort of diferent from being the president of Venezuela. And I am curious - how many foreign heads of state have we "rehabilitated" to date? Or is "rehabilitate" a code-word for what we did to Suddam?

By rehabilitate in this context, I mean at some point invite him to the White House --- which he's been craving.

Zapatero had some harsh words intended for Bush when he pulled the Spanish troops out of Iraq.

Your comment is 13 words too long.

And freekyd-if you're always correct, where's that link to saddam's WMD?

"which he's been craving."

He has? Why hasn't the Spanish press mentioned this? Does that mean he's going to return Spanish troops to Iraq? Or that he's going to backtrack on opposing our war in Iraq?

See, right there....you blew it. You were on a streak of being correct and with those words...you blew it.

Oh well. Back to square one for you.

The only reason why he was elected was the bombings in Spain.

#1 | Posted by r_zeitgeist

He was elected because the previous government -- a Bush ally -- lied to the Spanish people about who was responsible for the bombings. They blamed the Basques because they figured telling people it was Al Qaeda would spoil their re-election chances.

The Spanish people were a lot less tolerant of their government lying to them about the cost of war than half the American people were.

Zapatero ran on a platform of withdrawing Spanish troops from Iraq saying that the Iraq occupation was turning into a fiasco. This was back in the spring of 2004 when Bush was still telling us what a glorious success it was. I can't remember whether this was before or after the frat house pranks at Abu Ghraib but it was about the same time.

As for McCain, I listened to that tape. It's ambiguous whether he thought Zapatero was a South American leader or not. What was clear was that his befuddled old brain couldn't cope with being interviewed by Hispanic journalists speaking in English who clearly knew far more about what they were talking about than he did.

FYI, I said Zapatero's opposition of the Bush war was understandable and forgivable.

He need not return Spanish troops to Iraq.

He need not backtrack.

What he failed to do IN THE FIRST PLACE was 'to disagree as a gentleman and respectfully' --- and still pull Spanish troops out.

Instead, HE INSULTED BUSH AND EXPRESSED DEEP ANGER for the world to see as he ordered the pullout.

It was the insult THAT WAS NOT UNDERSTANDABLE (given his position) and NOT FORGIVABLE.

(Hugo Chavez is a lunatic, so his ravings against Bush are understandable; Zapatero is not a lunatic and his ravings against Bush are not forgiveable)

TakeitEZ-
You haven't listened to the interview, have you?

Listen to the interview, and then you will PRESTO! be qualified to comment on it.

"Listen to the interview, and then you will PRESTO! be qualified to comment on it."

Ahm, my friends, we need to appoint a commission to figure out exactly what I said and what I meant to say and why or why not I didn't say what I said or meant to say.

Sincerely,
John McCain

McCain can't really be this dimwitted can he? He could always blame it on being a POW. He doesn't know the difference between Zappatero and a Zappatista.

That's ok I didn't know who this was either but I"m not running for President.
