Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Gov. Sarah Palin's husband Todd has refused to testify in the investigation of his wife's alleged abuse of power. Sarah Palin initially welcomed the investigation of accusations that she dismissed the state's public safety commissioner because he refused to fire her ex-brother-in-law, a state trooper. "Hold me accountable," she said.

Surely the world will rejoice, having learned that subpoenas are pretty much useless.

In the future, perhaps sending a tasteful fruit basket will be more effective. Or maybe promising all the deep-fried twinkies you can eat upon completion of testimony.

Yeah, that would work.

Palin doesn't want you to know until after she schleps into office whether she is the type of person who abuses personal political power.
I guess you just don't deserve to know.

I've rarely seen a politician signal who it is she is as a person more clearly than Palin. You're being warned.

With the dem leading the investigation boasting about OCTOBER SURPRISE and even discussing impeaching Sarah Palin, he has handed a victory to the Palin family. How?

Partisanship. Obama surrogate. His credibility and impartiality has gone down the drain. No judge worth his/her salt will overlook his errors dismissively.

The OCTOBER SURPRISE turned out to be a premature SEPTEMBER SURPRISE!

"Even discussing impeaching Sarah Palin...."

Why would that surprise you? She seems abhored by her own State government, Republicans and Democrats.

And we're supposed to believe the pos has nothing to hide?
I don't know if the exclusion of testifying against your spouse would apply here-if it doesn't-toss his ass in prison in the same cell as "Tiny", the REALLY large Eskimo who wears dresses and LOVES to dance....
Hopefully-she'll issue a pardon, and the people of her State will recognize what a BAD idea it was to elect her-and start impeachment proceedings BEFORE the Nov elections.

THAT would make for an interesting election season....

This investigation was started and encouraged by Palin, who pledged her complete cooperation - UNTIL she became the VP nominee.

It was voted to go forward by 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats.

To suggest this is a political witch hunt is nonsense.

This story and others like it won't faze Palin's base. My hope is they resonante with independent voters. Palin does indeed at least behave as if she's guilty, guilty, guilty.

Partisanship. Obama surrogate. His credibility and impartiality has gone down the drain.

Takzituptheazz...
You really are delusional. It's a BIPARTISAN investigation.

Do you know what that means? How is your reading comprehension?
Maybe you should stop getting your news from neo-con hacks?

It's not surprising the largest segment of voters for the GOP ticket this year are high school grads or less.

His dark soul was revealed: October surprise, impeach. Until this darkness was revealed, yes it was a bipartisan investigation.

Now its become a partisan move and and blown in his face.

"Blown in his face...."

I'm not the first to wonder what the Republicans hope to gain with this stonewalling, which reminds me a bit of Watergate.

You'd think they'd want this story gone as quickly as possible, rather than drawing it out and heightening the drama and speculation.

This whole issue is dead.

The emails were released and Monegan is a putz and insubordinate and deserved to be fired.

Now you have Obama running things--like he has done in the past elections--wipe out the competition with his supporters help.

But it won't work this time.

hehehe

Building a bridge to nowhere: $200 million.

Leaving your city in debt: $26 million

Getting your haircut at Fantastic Sams: $40.00

Watching the Republicans twist on the spears of their own making; Priceless!!!!!

The Stray Talk Express just ran out of gas.

Palin doesn't want you to know until after she schleps into office whether she is the type of person who abuses personal political power.

I think we know that already.

"This investigation was started and encouraged by Palin, who pledged her complete cooperation - UNTIL she became the VP nominee. It was voted to go forward by 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats. To suggest this is a political witch hunt is nonsense."

All would have been well but then the leading Democrat put his foot in his mouth by promising an October surprise. Apparently he doesn't need the investigation. He is on a witch hunt.

what a tool.

That would also apply to Democrats, dumbass. MOST people don't go to college.

And the biggest grievance group of the Dems is blacks, who have the highest high school drop out rate. Gotta keep 'em on the Democrat Plantation, by keeping them dumb in public schools.

It was voted to go forward by 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats.

To suggest this is a political witch hunt is nonsense.

Like most rural states, Alaska is run by a good-ole-boy network. And since it is a red state most of the good old boys are Republicans.

So when Palin became governor she managed to piss off a lot of Republicans -- because it is a state dominated by REPUBLICANS.

You Liberal, East Coast suburbanites need to get out more. Partisanship is not everything.

rather than drawing it out and heightening the drama and speculation.

Damn, that's really funny!

Drama and speculation? By who? You and four other Liberal cranks.

Nobody cares about this silliness. People expect the Democrats to make wild accusations and launch pointless investigations. Especially as a political tactic. But it's a worn out strategy.

There's no drama or speculation, except in your echo chamber at Kos.

Mrs. Palin is definitely as smooth as ice. Actually she's got the sales ability to sell ice to an eskimo. BTW- Vernon, what happy, progressive, urban state to you reside? Pls. enlighten us with your infinite wisdom. Sincerely,

An eastern suburbanite.

"People expect the Democrats to make wild accusations and launch pointless investigations."

Vernon, what do people expect of republicans? In this case they are the ones who launched the investigation and they are the ones who in a bipartisan vote just this week agreed to continue on with it.

Boy, with Cheney's revised job description of the VP position, Palin's conniving skills, and McCain's ineptitude, the very thought of electing these yahoos just makes my head spin.

Meanwhile, blaming this whole thing on Obama? Are the Republicans AT ALL sane anymore?

VERNON---The more little Miss Sarah stonewalls, the more people will wonder what she's up to. That's just human nature.

I think she's gambling the rumor she might be guilty is superior to proof of just how damned guilty she is. If that's the ploy, then my isn't she stupid?

21 point swing with women voters AWAY from Palin!

Thanks Sara.

I don't blame Todd Palin for not wanting to testify.

Investigations have a way of leading to other investigations.

I have a feeling that Todd's carefully crafted image of a dutiful house husband who schleps the kids around when his wife is busy will be exposed as a fraud.

From what I'm reading, it appears that good ol' boy Todd, unelected but with an impressive high school education, is the brains behind his wife's governorship and is making decisions and taking actions without the benefit of being elected.

Maybe they do things differently in Alaska but some of us down here in the lower 48 worry about a guy with a high school education operating as an advisor on matters that have an affect on the entire world.

Sarah's husband may be a big fish in a little pond in Alaska but Washington D.C. is a whole 'nuther ocean and this duo is way out of their element.

Todd Pailn's name was revealed on many of the emails for state related stuff.

Even the ones that only the subject lines had been released for. it is apparent that Mr. Palin is far more involved in his wife's day to day work than is prudent.

All would have been well but then the leading Democrat put his foot in his mouth by promising an October surprise. Apparently he doesn't need the investigation. He is on a witch hunt.

uuhhhh ... wouldn't that be a reason to CONTINUE with the investigation ... to uncover the facts?

Good grief.

First of all, todd doesn't have to testify against his wife and quite frankly find it laughable that these lefties here would think such an action depletes his standings.

Well, todd not testifying is exactly what a well managed conservative traditional family would do.

This is staying within the founding of the plateform character.

First of all, todd doesn't have to testify against his wife

This is the crux. There is no legal compulsion for a spouse to testify against their spouse. There is a requirement for T. Palin to come forward and claim that right, under the law. There is no right to simply ignore a subpoena.

Yav,

That particular injunction is only in the case of a criminal proceeding, which this is not as of yet. Todd Palin has just driven another nail in the coffin and after November 4th when The Mooseketeer and family head back to AK this she's going to make the quickest slide into oblivion since, well, Thomas Dewey.

Vernon, what do people expect of republicans? In this case they are the ones who launched the investigation and they are the ones who in a bipartisan vote just this week agreed to continue on with it.

Shhhh, don't bother dear old Verm with facts. They make his little head hurt.

If Palin won't testify, how about throwing him in the pokey until he does? I hear there is plenty of room at Gitmo.

BTW, the "if you have nothing to hide" crowd has taken a 180 on this issue. The truth shall set you free.

First of all, todd doesn't have to testify against his wife

Courts generally do not permit an adverse spouse to invoke either privilege during a trial initiated by the other spouse, or in the case of domestic abuse. The privileges may also be suspended where both spouses are joint participants in a crime, depending on the law of the jurisdiction.

Well, todd not testifying is exactly what a well managed conservative traditional family would do.

Well, is ignoring a subpoena, in other words breaking the law, what a "well managed conservative traditional family" would do?

That particular injunction is only in the case of a criminal proceeding, which this is not as of yet.

I had a feeling I didn't have it quite right. Thanks Reagan58.

The emails were released and Monegan is a putz and insubordinate and deserved to be fired.

The claim that Monegan was insubordinate is bogus. Palin offered him another job after removing him from his position. Alaskan bloggers like Andrew Halcro say his reputation is being unfairly smeared by Palin and the McCain campaign.

Yeah, I often offer another job to a fired employee who was subordinate.

How many liberal Dumbacrats are willing to put your money where your mouth is your V.P pick joe biden wants you to pay even higher taxes. Are you going to do the Patriotic thing and send extra money to Washington after all it's the right thing to do. Remember if you don't send extra money you are not Patriotic and are not supporting your own party lol lol lol lol lol lol

Alaskan bloggers

Something about that term made me laugh.

I only read Nanook of the North.

How many liberal Dumbacrats are willing to put your money where your mouth is your V.P pick joe biden wants you to pay even higher taxes.

If I was pulling down $250,000, I'd be happy to pay a larger share of my income to taxes than middle and lower class people do. The rich should be glad to live in a society that has enabled them to get that way, and seek its stability in a time of crisis.

i'm sorry
it doesn't matter who is leading this investigation

what the republicans have proven in the last few years is that if you are a politician or family of politicians you are above the law

welcome to the american royalty

Todd Palin citing his busy travel schedule is freaking hilarious, except it isn't, it's freaking outragous. Send them both back to Alaska.

How many liberal Dumbacrats are willing to put your money where your mouth is your V.P pick joe biden wants you to pay even higher taxes.

If it means not leaving my kids a bankrupt nation (thanks to the Republican Party), I am willing to pay higher taxes.

Don't mess with Todd or his future son in law Levi (when IS that wedding, Sarah?) or they'll blow you away, Unless you vote right, they could become First Dude and First Redneck. herm

Takitetz post#4 PWNED by posts 7, 8, etc., et al, ad nauseum.

Who amongst you think we can avoid paying higher taxes after the national debt we are left with?

republicans would rather let america and americans suffer

SAMBARBER, I bring solid points, not meaningless insults like some do here. Any problem with that?

There is nothing to see here! Move along or you WILL be arrested.

- The GOP

McCain-Palin presidential campaign spokesman Ed O'Callaghan announced today that Todd Palin would not appear, because he no longer believes the (Alaska) Legislature's investigation is legitimate.

How nice!

So, if we, as citizens, believe (and remember all we have to do is BELIEVE) that an investigation is NOT legitimate then WE don't have to comply with any subsequent subpoenas!

Now that is some Change we need...Chaos and Lawlessnes!

Yea! No more subpoenas!

And since this whole Administration is not legitimate looks like I don't have to comply with anything they say!

Nice.

Maybe the best idea would be to send State Trooper Wooten out to the airport to meet Todd when he next arrives in AK. Arrest him on the spot and leave him jailed on contempt of Legislature until he IS willing to appear. Be a shame if he had to taser Todd, or worse, pop a cap in his ass.

Todd Palin doesn't believe the Alaskan legislative probe is legitimate? This must be one of the major fictions from the Far Right today. Todd Palin, the cheerleader's hunk who never went to college, surely has no clue on what's legitimate and what isn't. It's probably safe to say that all the Palins will read exactly the script that their corporate masters put into their hands. herm

You REPUBLICIANS ASSHOLES should take your heads our your ASSES. Try an be an American first. Your Partianship is showing you for what you are, an ignorant bunch of Racist Hillybillys!!!!! The Troopergate incident in Alaska, was a Bi-Partisian event until Sarah baby was nominated, now it is the Republicians that seem to have something to hide. The Reporters now in Alaska will get to the bottom of this story, even though the Republician Party has sent more lawyers to Alaska to fight these hearings than reporters trying to get to the bottom of the story......

PRESIDENT OBAMA, get over it you RACIST Pricks!!!!

They announced today in Alaska the investigation will still release their report on October 10th.

This is a stupid move on the Palin's part.

First they 'have nothing to hide' and then they do everything they can to hide. Typical double speak.

On October 10 Zondervan will release Sarah Palin's biography.

As for the investigation report, it has no teeth and calculated only to embarass Sarah, but any false interpretation can be used against the report itself.

The game is on.....

"On October 10 Zondervan will release Sarah Palin's biography."

And on October 11 the laughing will commence.

"It has no teeth and is calculated only to embarass Sarah...."

I would imagine a report lacking teeth wouldn't embarass anyone. Makes you wonder why someone would waste their breath to release it or alternatively why Republicans are so damned worried about it.

People should never have a biography written about them prior to age sixty-five, regardless of who they are.

TAKITEZ

Sarah Palin ENCOURAGED this investigation, pledging to cooperate 100% as she 'has nothing to hide'.

The ONLY element that's changed is that she's now the VP nominee, and because she realizes she DOES have something to hide is doing everything she can to keep it from public knowledge.

10 Republicans and 4 Democrats in the Alaskan Legislature voted UNANIMOUSLY to hand it over to a special investigator - at Palin's urging. The investigator is the same, the same members of the State Legislature are still in office, and the facts are the same.

So, what are you arguing about in allowing this investigation - where nothing's changed but Palin's refusal to now cooperate - from just TWO months ago?

Sarah Palin ENCOURAGED this investigation, pledging to cooperate 100% as she 'has nothing to hide'.

Sarah the Demon Huntress did have nothing to hide when she was playing to the home crowds in Moose Country.

Now she is in the Big Time Show. She apparently has a LOT to hide from us here in Bull Shit Country. Apparently WE are not as "forgiving" as the Alaskan Separatist crowd.

Maybe I too would be more forgiving of her Moose Shit if she sent ME a check for $3,000 every year just for sticking around and putting up with her!

She said, "hold me accountable" - in JULY

New trouble in River City. Another of Palin's claims about Troopergate was just proven false.

This from ABC News:

ABC News: New Doubts Over Palin & Troopergate Claims

Palin on Monday argued in a legal filing that she fired Monegan because he had a "rogue mentality" and was bucking her administration's directives. But the governor's staff authorized the trip, according to an internal travel document from the Department of Public Safety, released Friday in response to an open records request.

Let's investigate the MEN in Sarah's life. The First Dude, the First Redneck, her hubby's business partner, her minister, the fired trooper ... herm

Sarah encouraged this investigation in good faith. But when she discovered French to be proceeding with evil intent she decided to expose it by stopping it cold. Now everyone knows he was virtually acting as Obama's surrogate.

Had French either recused himself or recommended the proceeding be moved beyond November 4, he would be seen as a fairminded gentleman with a bright political future --- and the public may hesitate to give the benefit of the doubt to Palin.

But he boasted an October surprise and reveled in the prospect of impeaching Palin. Now the doubt is on him. He has committed a foot in Michael Moore's big mouth folly.

Stephen Branchflower the lead investigator has earned for himself the title: Rogue Investigator --- for stubbornly insisting on embarassing Palin.

quoting fairy tales. that works.

"PRESIDENT OBAMA, get over it you RACIST Pricks!!!!"

LOL...I suppose ol' Celery is talking about his little leftist-socialist butt buddies:

news.yahoo.com

Sarah tried to fire her former brother in law in order to influence a child custody hearing during the bitter divorce proceedings.

When she couldn't bully the troopers boss into firing him she fired the boss.

Now a bi-partisan commission is looking into it as they should have previously.

Seems pretty straight forward to Spud.

She's just another Neo-Clown hack who thinks herself above the law.

Aren't people getting a little tired of THAT yet?

Be Well.
