When she ran for mayor of Wasilla, Palin responded to concerns about her managerial experience saying, "It's not rocket science." It wasn't long after the election though that Palin was forced to hire a city manager.

The sports complex that Palin had built and that has put the town of Wasilla in debt was a boondoggle from the get-go:

"Sarah was very focused on the sports complex," said Wasilla council member Dianne Woodruff, who began serving after Palin's tenure. "But somebody forgot to buy the land before they started building on it. Somebody dropped the ball. It was the fault of the people running the city at the time. As a result, we've spent well over a million dollars more than we should have. And we're still paying for it."

Today, the sports complex sits like a huge airplane hangar outside the Wasilla city limits, in a clearing in the woods. Since Palin's administration decided to build the complex far from Wasilla's population center, kids can't walk there or ride their bicycles. On a recent, drizzly afternoon, the cavernous building sat nearly empty. Inside, two girls glided aimlessly around on the ice rink.

The more one scratches Palin's shiny surface, the darker things get. Since she never blinks, with eyes wide open, Palin has made one mistep after another that now undercut her frugal, reformer, maverick claims.

Rocket science, no. Above her pay grade, apparently.

For a VP candidate it is with awe that so much is being focussed.

Talk about searching for news, lets put some more palin threads on the board, there are not enough now.

That bimbo's idea of rocket science is lighting fireworks.

A city manager for a town the size of Wassilla? WTF? Palin must have spent her time counting nats.

Palin neglected to buy the land before she starting building that sports complex? Did I hear that right?

Zed-
She probably spent some of that time driving to the library in the "mayor mobile" paid for with city funds (a first for Wasilla) in order to innocently inquire how the librarian felt about censoring books.

That "mayor mobile" interests me. How'd she get away with that in a town of less than 10,000? Where I lived she'd be tarred and feathered, run out town on a rail, then kidnapped so it could all be done to her again.

I'm sorry you don't find this thread relevant, Money, but I do. Palin touts her executive experience as mayor as one of the reasons she knows she can handle the job as vice-president. Yeah, she said the same thing about being mayor, and then had to go out an hire a city manager to do the job for her. Her unblinking bravado during the Gibson interview may be little more than blinkered naivete, and judging by her performance as mayor, I'm inclined to think it is. All we have to go on is her record, and that's what this article takes a little look at.

Since McCain will be the oldest president if elected, has had 4 bouts with skin cancer and the odds that Palin will be come president are almost 3 to 1, I think she warrants looking into.

Palin neglected to buy the land before she starting building that sports complex? Did I hear that right?

Well, somebody in Wasilla did, and I assume since she was the mayor and the one pushing the project, that ultimately the buck stopped with her:

"Sarah was very focused on the sports complex," said Wasilla council member Dianne Woodruff, who began serving after Palin's tenure. "But somebody forgot to buy the land before they started building on it. Somebody dropped the ball. It was the fault of the people running the city at the time. If she and McCain get elected, I can wait for them to "help" us.
