On the night the storm flattened their island, a small group of Hurricane Ike survivors took sanctuary in a church with a lion. "When you have to swim, the lion doesn't care about eating nobody," said the lion's owner Michael Ray Kujawa.

This story, while also containing powerful personal stories of surviving Ike's powerful force also has the feel good element of everyone hunkering down in the sanctuary of a local church - with a lion

nothing like being thrown into a lion's den and living to tell about it!

AMAZING A.U.!

Eating nobody? Then of course they were safe.

This goes to show that lion and man can coexist peacefully. Now for those fish Bush talked about....

LOL

OK, back on a non-partisan tack:

When catastrophes happen we all band together.

I loved this line from the article:

"They worked pretty well together, actually," said the lion's owner, Michael Ray Kujawa. "When you have to swim, the lion doesn't care about eating nobody."

lions will usually stalk their prey for weeks before attacking - the people had at least two weeks going for them!

LOL Nanc!!

This story reminds of a book I read recently, Life of Pi. It is about a young man from India who is stuck on a life raft with a tiger and must some how learn to survive.

The young man is very religious--having made personal commitments to Christianity, Islam and Hinduism--he loves them all. By the end of the novel there is a twist ending which is supposed to lead the reader into insight about religion.

It might not be for everyone, but I thought it was worth the read.

Cheers

Very glad that the casualty rate wasn't as high as it might have been. Good stuff.

Last I read, the death toll was around 40. Definitely sad, but could have been so much worse.

Do you realy believe that shit? Lions have to have meat every 2 or 3 days. It is the gator that dosen't eat very often.

i've never had the opportunity to get my ear close enough to shit to know what it was sayin' - why don't you enlighten u.s.?

if a lion sets its sights on some prey, it will go hungry before pouncing.

lesson:

don't listen to shit. it will give you a crappy outlook on life.

Mmmmmmmmm.....Lion Chops.....sooooo tasty!

Nothing like bringing your food with you.......and still alive too....about as fresh as you can get!

Pretty darned resourceful of the lion to find itself with way more than 72 hours worth of provisions handy...

Where does a hungry lion sleep?

Anywhere he wants?

No silly, in the sanctuary!

It's like "The Life of Pi," just in Texas.

Life imitating art, once again.

don't listen to shit. it will give you a crappy outlook on life.

Seems to have worked with this lion story. The last time I was close to a lion I thought he was looking at me like I was lunch.

can't be as bad as riding it out with your mother-in-law

good one johnny

there are lots of feel good stories and most of them are about people taking care of themselves and thier neighbors and not waiting on the government to take care of them
a microcosm of why I am not a liberal democrat

and to pat myself on the back yesterday at the store by my house a lady with three kids was buying candles and food only had a couple of bucks and a credit card.......with the card not working yet
three of us in line put some cash together and bought it for her.

yeah for me and the other two but thats just one example

good on you, blt! this area was unfortunate enough to have some of the katrina refusees and they were downright hateful and bitter to the core - what'd they do with their gov credit cards? from what we could see, they purchased clothing that didn't fit and new african brief cases!!!
