"Under the act, the sharia courts are classified as arbitration tribunals. The rulings of arbitration tribunals are binding in law, provided that both parties in the dispute agree to give it the power to rule on their case." www.timesonline.co.uk
Sounds like "Judge Judy." Where do we go to get tickets?

Welcome welcome news.
It was about time!

What a surprise, Tosser and Klifferd are for it.
I personally believe the evil of Islam and the evil of christianity and the evil of Judaism is all pretty much on a scale outside human comprehension and measurement. If there was a god, all you guys would be fucked.
So, back on topic, do we stay with the evil we have or try some new evil?

Wait for your turn.

You are right. So a reasonable person may be led to conclude that the problem is religion in general, not just one specific type.
My thing is that no religion has any business being involved in any place were reality is discussed and societal norms are considered.

What does reality have to do with religion?

It often is.
I have always said, most of the planet is not fit to understand high-brow concepts like religious philosophy, metaphysics, etc. Hell, most people can't even solve a quadratic equation!
In such a case there is merit in the idea that there be no religion at all. Like Lenin and Stalin outlawed religion.
And it was replaced with something far worse, nearly bringing WW3 upon us.
Mankind will always find something... I think religion is the least damaging. It tends to keep most folk out of trouble.

an honest question:
can tosser or kliff explain to me how this is a good idea?
Posted by Hagbard_Celine at 2008-09-15 03:05 PM | Reply | Flag: Flag: (Choose)FunnyNewsworthyOffensiveAbusive
Honest answer:
It is unnecessary.
British law is quite "Islamic" on it's own. Pakistan's laws are still 90% British and yet we call ourselves a country with an Islamic legal system.
India (also has a British legal system) has two sets of laws.. one for Muslims and one for Hindus.
So this is nothing new.
Islamic laws only kick in when there is question of who inherits what? Or when people get married.. what does the marriage contract say (all muslim marriages have to have a "pre-nup").. how much money or property are you going to hand over to your wife up-front?
And of course, getting divorced is damn easy. Takes about 5 minutes in some cases. LOL

"What a surprise, Tosser and Klifferd are for it."
wait can you quote me on saying i'm for it?
didn't think so
i'm actually against sharia law as it is today.
its 500 years behind.
until that happens
i'm against it.
that means legal gay marriage. that means all genders treated equally. that means removal of capital punishment in its entirity.
so go ahead and think that because i'm muslim i'm a raging terrorist loon it just shows how biased people are.
i'm just saying that anything like this comes out and the bashing begins, and the bashing goes on to bash everyone who calls themself muslim.

hagbard.
if both sides can truly agree on whether they want to follow sharia law
then that is their contract
this already exists all over the world.
its call a prenup. or a last will and testament.
you can follow any law you want based on those documents.
is it a good idea. if one side is being forced or is unlearned enough to understand the repurcussions of such actions, then of course not.
however if a british judge can make the determination before hand that no one is forced and all parties agree to the understanding of what it means to continue in the civil case using sharia, then i don't see the problem.
but the same can be said about legal marriage in the british system anyways... if the girl or guy doens't understand the repurcussions. they might be filing for divorce 3 months later.

You are watching the end of Western civilization in Europe.
Massive immigration (legal and illegal) of third world Muslims now rule the European continent.
Europe is now being returned to third world status.
America's open borders policy guarantees our country is soon to follow.

"Europe is now being returned to third world status.

not if we maintain a good education system and actually improve the innercity ones that are failing.
if we can upgrade our education system to modern times
we can prevent the immigrant crisis by ensuring that their first generation is educated and valuable members of society.

What's to say really? If the loons legally agree under one system to operate within it's bounds and then within a further stricture (once again, WITHIN the secular system's laws, including methods of enforcement) then there should be no conflict.
The big issue should be making sure that their following of Sharia rules in no way violates that of the greater society they live in. Beyond that, I agree with everything Klifferd said about sharia law, so I'm just not sure why anyone would agree to follow it. In the end though, there is no generalized law against stupidity.
