North Korea's state-run media has not reported any public appearance by its 66-year-old leader Kim Jong-Il since mid-August, raising speculation that he may be in ill health or has possibly suffered a stroke.

He may have well been watching the GOP convention and nearly died laughing.

Some Jap intelligence guy claims Lil Kim has been dead since 2003. Claims it's a body double.

What I don't get is if that psycho is gone why in the world would N Korea want to continue living under those conditions?

North Korea has a brainwashing propaganda machine that Karl Rove only dreams about having.

I mean, parades are his favorite things, after his bodyguards.

It may just be a severe laceration on his butt. The cause being he is such a mean spirited bastard that he turned around and bit himself on the ass. Poetic justice?

Kim Jong ill?

Christ, I wish there was a FF for writing a headline.

...don't question my health ashole. Watch this shaky finger.....aw there is the red button. So wong.

And obviously with three or four of them running around he can't be ill... Unless they are trying to prove he is still alive...

Did not read the NYT article. I did not want to register, but read the article on MSNBC. There was no mention of the succession if he does die. What is the speculation on what would happen if he were gone? Would the military take over? Would it be an opportunity to free these poor people from this nut?

That would be a GOOD thing then. At lest the Republicans did something positive this time, getting rid of a world leader without invading the country.

If he's not ill, mabey ...."He's wone-wee, he just wone-wee."

America...FUCK YEAH!

To paraphrase Dorothy Parker:

"How can they tell?"

Saw...one of his sons has been unofficially touted as his successor, but there is also the possibility that his half brother, Kim Pyong-il, will come back to take over. Lil' Kim's father sent the brother to Europe to work in various embassies before he passed the job on to prevent a power struggle between the two. I believe the half-brother is currently the ambassador to Poland.

Even if the military did not take over and the people threw a great big Pro-Democracy cake parade through the middle of Pyongyang, freeing these poor people would be an expensive and difficult endeavor. Expect it to cost hundreds of billions of dollars and take a great deal of time, DPRK has a host of problems. It's sad, but that really is a blighted place. Most likely scenario if there is even a moment of hesitation in succession or the slightest lapse of order should Dear Leader die? Probably a mass exodus of refugees appearing in China, S. Korea, and Japan.

I thought all the NKs went underground during WWZ

It was just about as funny as the dem convention.

Who is the next one to take over?

Kim Jong be Illin'?
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy...maybe his lifestyle of fucking nuclear warheads is taking a toll....

Kim Jon Il is going through the RNC vetting process in case 'Plain' falls through.

"he's already run his own dictatorship...HE'S READY TO RULE OVER YOU ON DAY ONE!!!

"Yasser Arafat, your days are numbered"....a few months after the pronouncement, Arafat died --- leaving millions of $$$$$$ for his wife to shop in Paris and live in style. Stolen money.

"Kim Jong Il, your days are numbered" --- you are not going to recover and you will die soon.

The two Koreas will be united.... its coming.

Castro, no one is sure whether you or Kim Jong Il will be first to go, but you have lived long enough to see the errors of your ways --- and still unrepentant.

Chavez still has some time to keep irritating the USA.

Or, Kim Jong GONE. Possibly in 2003 when one or more bodies-double replaced him.

lol... Great book.

A japanese newspaper thinks he's been dead from diabetes for years...and we've been negotiating with a fraud

"N Korea's Kim died in 2003; replaced by lookalike, says Waseda professor"

www.japantoday.com

they said the same thing about John kerry in 04 and he's still hanging around

A stroke victim?

Couldn't happen to a nicer fella.

It's not like the North can suddenly make some drastic change if he's gone. The only thing drastic would be several generals clamoring for power. Balkanization might occur. But there is no resistance movement from the people. Freedom is foreign to them. Even South Koreans are still somewhat used to following the leader. They do have those crazy protests, though, with the 19-year-old police officers kicking innocuous women in the head.

Funny headline!

Kim Jong Il believed to be recovering from stroke 34 minutes ago

SEOUL, South Korea - North Korean leader Kim Jong Il is believed to be recovering from an apparent stroke, South Korea's presidential office said Wednesday, as the communist nation rejected reports questioning Kim's health as a "conspiracy plot."

Speculation has intensified that Kim may have taken ill after he missed a parade Tuesday commemorating the communist state's founding 60 years ago. That followed weeks of being absent from public view and rumors that foreign doctors were brought to the isolated nation to possibly treat him.

On Wednesday, South Korean presidential spokesman Lee Dong-kwan said that President Lee Myung-bak and top officials received an intelligence briefing on Kim's health. The spokesman said in a statement that according to the briefing Kim was "not seen to be in a serious condition."

South Korea's National Intelligence Service reported to a parliamentary committee that it obtained intelligence reports showing Kim recently had surgery for an unspecified circulatory problem, and his condition had much improved, an agency official said.
