"His rise is remarkable in its own right. It's the kind of thing that could happen only in America. But he's never run a city, never run a state, never run a business. He's never had to lead people in crisis. This is not a personal attack. It's a statement of fact: Barack Obama has never led anything."

I lived in Chicago in 1995, community organizers WERE doing just what you asked about. I can't vouch for President Obama but many others were. Also, there were very few air conditioned shelters available as the power was out in large parts of the metro Chicago area. But keep those Lush Rimjob talking points coming. We love to hear from idiots.

Obama was busy keeping Billy Ayers powder cool.

Actually, in 1995 Obama was too busy writing a book to care about sweaty old people dying. At that point he hadn't organized a community in 7 years.

www.adn.com

I just wonder if a hard-core religious conservative like Sarah Palin actually wears thongs.

If Palin had a 17 year old pregnant daughter in 1999, would it matter? Does it only matter because it is happening during an election? What sort of standard is that for whether someone's conduct is appropriate and whether the parenting that led to it was proper?

It's a liberal blog, Rob.

That explains why its so thin and there's empty bottles of AZT everywhere...

Well, the Kilpatrick story (other than here at the Nooner) has not been posted either.

I am sure that the governor is jumping for joy since she won't have to remove him. Granted, both Granholm and Kilpatrick are Democrats, but it still would have been politically difficult to remove the guy.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - John McCain embarks on his final drive for the White House Thursday night, accepting the Republican presidential nomination and addressing the party's national convention from a stage that workers were hastily rebuilding to fit his "town hall" approach.

That was a really funny line... when the greek styrophome columns are taken back to the set...

She played really well to the crowd. Will be interesting to see how it came off to the millions watching.

Rob, but replace "Greek Styrofoam columns" with "town hall setting". Can you say big fat hypocrite? My words yes!

Gov. Palin's speech was what was expected, after all she was a on camera TV Reporter, in her early career. The Republicans have used this tactic once before remember RONALD REAGAN. We have had this act before, are we going to elect a performer again???? One can only hope not.

"WHERES THE BEEF"???? Sarcasim, can only take these clowns so far, once the people find out this Gov.'s policies the bloom will come off the rose, of this I have no doubt. After all how long can the McCain campaign keep her away from the Press, she has much to answer for. Let the Process begin!!!!!

I'm not a Republican because I grew up rich. I'm a Republican because I didn't want to spend the rest of my life poor, waiting for the government to rescue me.

"Only one candidate here has ever really fought for you."

A couple of great lines. Of course the best line of the convention was "Roger that"

Rob, but replace "Greek Styrofoam columns" with "town hall setting". Can you say big fat hypocrite? My words yes!

#49 | Posted by Chill

I'm guessing Townhall setting actually means pretty low key.

Now if he walks out tonight and there is an atual Townhall built around the stage, yeah you'll have a point, but I'm thinking its gonna be lowkey with the stage probably completely surrounded by the audience.

I'm not a Republican because I grew up rich. I'm a Republican because I didn't want to spend the rest of my life poor, waiting for the government to rescue me.

That line made me a little sad Huckabee didn't win the primaries...

He's really good... I hope he runs for something else in Arkansas to keep his name around and not just try to be another Rudy or Romney.

I am sure that the governor is jumping for joy since she won't have to remove him. Granted, both Granholm and Kilpatrick are Democrats, but it still would have been politically difficult to remove the guy.

Don't forget "the slim and trim" Debbie Stabenaw and Carl "those are not womens glasses" Levin. Is it any wonder why the state is so fucked up? Woody Hayes said he would never allow any of his players to spend a dime in the state of Michigan. I think there is a song that goes 'Ain't nothing good about the whole state of Michigan, I'm from Ohio'

You know what Joe, you are right. Let's see what other news we can dig up from our candidates past.

Last night in her speech, Palin poked fun at Obama's lack of experience. And why shouldn't she? With Palin as vice-President, the GOP has more experience in the number two slot compared to the Dems number one.

Hag,
I have been pulling out some good pop culture references here lately.

Spike

Here is a interesting little ditty...we all wonder how Obama got into Harvard, had the money to pay for it when his mom was twice divorced, his dad dropped out of his life and his "typical white" Grandparents raised him...

"Percy Sutton, the former borough president of Manhattan, off-handedly revealed the unusual circumstances about his first encounter with the young Obama. I was introduced to (Obama) by a friend who was raising money for him,-- Sutton told NY1 city hall reporter Dominic Carter.

The friends name is Dr. Khalid al-Mansour, from Texas,-- Sutton said. He is the principal adviser to one of the worlds richest men. He told me about Obama.--

Sutton, the founder of Inner City Broadcasting, said al-Mansour contacted him to ask a favor: Would Sutton write a letter in support of Obamas application to Harvard Law School?

He wrote to me about him,-- Sutton recalled. And his introduction was there is a young man that has applied to Harvard. I know that you have a few friends up there because you used to go up there to speak. Would you please write a letter in support of him?--
Sutton said he acted on his friend al-Mansours advice.
I wrote a letter of support of him to my friends at Harvard, saying to them I thought there was a genius that was going to be available and I certainly hoped they would treat him kindly,-- Sutton told NY1.
Sutton did not say why al-Mansour was helping Obama, how he discovered him, or from whom he was raising money on Obamas behalf.

Who is Al-Mansour? This is:

Making a Killing in Iraq

Even as McCain was lobbying hard for the Telecom industry in the late 1990s, the Arizona Senator worked overtime to build up the case for war in the Middle East. McCain served as the honorary co-chair-- of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, a group which helped push for official government as well as public support for the invasion of Iraq after the 9/11 terror attacks.

In the aftermath of the invasion, the telecoms scrambled to get a piece of the action as Iraq was opened up for business. Cellular giant Qualcomm managed to exert political influence over the Pentagon which in turn pressured the Coalition Provisional Authority to change an Iraqi police radio contract to favor Qualcomms patented cellular technology.

Whats more, the Pentagon hired MCI---the former World Com, which had declared bankruptcy amidst an accounting fraud scandal in July, 2002---to build a small wireless phone network in Iraq. Incensed, Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy urged major federal agencies to stop doing business with bankrupt telecom giant MCI and explain why its record $9 billion accounting fraud should not disqualify the company from receiving lucrative government contracts.

As it turned out Kennedy was right to harbor suspicions about the dodgy company. After the Coalition Provisional Authority issued MCI cell phones to U.S. personnel in Baghdads Green Zone, problems arose. Reportedly, cell phone owners received monthly bills as high as $10,000. The individuals had never received bills, leaving the impression that the phone calls, which cost $1.25 a minute, were free. The U.S. State Department subsequently decided to shut the phone calls down.

AT&T, McCains second largest corporate backer, also fell into controversy. After the invasion, the telecom giant received an exclusive contract to provide pre-paid calling cards to military personnel stationed in Iraq. But U.S. soldiers quickly complained about the exorbitant prices they had to pay under the arrangement.

According to the Newark Star Ledger, many pre-paid AT&T cards bought in the United States and shipped to soldiers in Iraq allowed only a fraction of the minutes promised on the cards. Even the cards bought in Iraq, which an AT&T spokesman said were a better bargain for the troops, cost between 19 and 21 cents a minute for a call.

House Representative Frank Pallone, Democrat of New Jersey, was disturbed by the price gouging. AT&T should be required to provide a clear and straightforward system of calling time that will make it easier for our troops to call home,-- Pallone said in a statement. It disturbs me to think that companies are more interested in making a buck on our soldiers in Iraq than providing the quality services they have been paid to provide.--

Truly, it can be said that the telecoms have been making a killing in Iraq, their war profiteering greased by their long-time ally, John McCain.

Palin was so deep into the conservative ethos of no-sex-before-marriage that she lied about and covered-up her own daughter's teen pregnancy for the sake of her political standing.

John McCain looks to the past,-- he said, saying he'd give tax breaks for corporations and oil interest instead of working people. John McCain's proposal -- he leaves out 100 million American families without a single red cent,-- he said. Barack Obama's going to give 95 percent of the American people a tax cut.--

Sure he's going to lower taxes? he's already said no more stock market tax breaks HOW UNREFRESHING and envy motivated is he trying to be?

They've run out of things to say about the Messiah.

Hey dr left what is the transcanadian pipeline and why has it taken Palin to break a thirty year log jam to get it built? What did she do to get it done? The silence is either your stupid...or just ignorant1

What is the largest privately funded public project EVER to be built in North America?

Hint..what's in Prudhoe Bay????

You who read this book should mark it clearly in your own mind, for it is very significant. He made the projection that President Carter would have a choice as to which way the natural gas pipeline would be constructed. It could be built down the same present corridor, from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez, then liquefied in Valdez and taken out by ship to the lower 48 states, or President Carter woud have the alternative of having the natural gas pipeline built across Canada. That would be over 3,000 miles to the United States (3,000 miles of pipe across another country, rather than 800 miles of pipe across an already existing corridor down one of our own states).

Mr. X said, "Chaplain, I predict that when the President comes to the time of his choice, he will choose that the natural gas pipeline must be built across Canada, and that it cannot by any circumstances be built across Alaska, liquefied, taken to the West coast, and then distributed across America."

I was confused and asked, "Why do you predict that? What is the significance of that?"

He answered, "Within 6 months time we could be producing natural gas for America, down the present corridor which has already been built for it. The natural gas could go down the same route that has been used for the Prudhoe Bay oil. A natural gas pipeline could be built down that corridor within six months, and a liquefaction plant in Valdez could be built in a few months, because everything is ready to go. Within a matter of months the natural gas could be distributed across the entire United States, with the addition of a few cross-country pipelines. If that were done, there would never be any crisis of natural gas in all the lower 48 states of America, and that could all be accomplished within a matter of a few months." He paused, "But Chaplain, if the President chooses to take the natural gas pipeline across Canada, it will never be built."

A govenor did what no president has been able to accomplish. Would you not atleast admit THAT was quite an accomplishment....

The resident school where the child would normally be placed does not have the resources to provide an adequate educational program. Without the supplementary services the childs needs would not be met by the local school district in most cases.

Special Education Service Agency (SESA)

The Annual budget for 2007, which preceded Gov. Palin was $8,265,300.

www.gov.state.ak.us

The Annual budget for 2008, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

www.gov.state.ak.us

The Annual budget for 2009, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

www.gov.state.ak.us

This is a cut in special needs services to children in Alaska of 5,109,300 , or 62%.

As the Alaska State Budget description states, "Without the supplementary services the childs needs would not be met by the local school district in most cases."

AU,

But facts aren't the bar to Wisgod. He "feels" she didn't slash the special needs budget.

WISGOD

Here are links to the Alaskan Government's own budget for SESA

2007 - (pre-Palin)

2008 - (Palin)

2009 - (Palin)

And if those don't work you can access them from this link. They're PDF files I converted to HTML for easier viewing by you, WISGOD

Now, please argue with the Alaskan Government's own documents.

re: Palin's budget cuts to the (Alaskan) Special Education Service Agency (SESA)

Already been disproven AU. Next.

What's the next 'disproven' comment I made you'd like me to prove? I know my facts before opening my mouth. Unlike (clearing throat) some people around here....

Where'd you get your faulty info? FreeRepublic?

Sooo I asked a very simple question..

Hey dr left what is the transcanadian pipeline and why has it taken Palin to break a thirty year log jam to get it built? What did she do to get it done? The silence is either your stupid...or just ignorant1

What is the largest privately funded public project EVER to be built in North America?

Dr left refuses to answer, yet you have 8 Palin retorts growing with hundreds of responses.

So which is it You just don't know about it and refuse to learn?? Or you are just a bunch of hateful envious mean shitheads?

"PALIN: "I fought to bring about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history. And when that deal was struck, we began a nearly forty billion dollar natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence. That pipeline, when the last section is laid and its valves are opened, will lead America one step farther away from dependence on dangerous foreign powers that do not have our interests at heart.

THE FACTS: Palin implies that construction has begun on a major natural gas pipeline from the top of Alaska into Canada. That is not correct.

In fact, no building has begun and actual construction is years away, if it ever happens. This summer the Alaska Legislature, at Palin's request, passed a bill under which the state will issue a "license" to a Canadian energy company, TransCanada Corp., and pay it up to $500 million as an incentive to someday build this enormous project, which Alaska politicians have long sought with little success. The license is not a construction contract, and federal energy regulators have not yet approved the project.

Palin also puts the price tag for the project at $40 billion, an exaggeration. This is roughly $10 billion more than most cost estimates industry players and consultants have made to date."

Anchorage Daily News September 4,2008

What is the largest privately funded public project EVER to be built in North America?

The Trans-Alaskan Pipeline - touted at the time by the consortium that built it as the way to wean us off of foreign oil. Problem is much of that oil takes a right turn from Valdez and goes to Asia.

As to the transcanadian pipeline, I know that story too, thangyaverramuch

Irwin got his job back too....

Here you AU.

Chew it up so you don't choke.

This charge is based on looking at the budget for Alaskas Special Education Service Agency for 2007-2009. In fact, the December 2006 budget document that they cite would have been prepared by the outgoing administration that of Republican Frank Murkowski, whom Palin defeated.

Whats gone unmentioned is that the Palin signed into law a dramatic reform of the states education financing system that equalizes aid to rural and urban districts, while significantly increasing funding for special needs students.

In FY 08 the academy was moved out of special education management and became its own program. And its funding was increased by about $2.8 million (to $8,234,000 in FY 08from $5,449,300 in FY07). Heres a link to the programs FY 08 budget gov.state.ak.usD/comp2837.pdf

The SESA funding statewide Special Needs Ed funding.

Again, you say so, I say not.

Provide the links to the part of the budget you're talking about. The one's I posted are THE only funding for Special Education Service Administration.

In case it's too hard to wrap your brain around, put in in the perspective that the entire state has the population of Fort Worth. Not Dallas/Fort Worth. Fort Worth. 650,000

Factchecking Palin

I thought Palin's speech was quite good: well-written, well delivered. And, as I said earlier, I think she's a genuinely engaging person, and comes across very well. There were just a couple of problems. One, which I have seen people notice, but which I suspect won't be a big deal for a lot of voters, is that it had very little substance. The other, which the commenters I saw on TV for some reason neglected to mention, was that she told a lot of lies. A few that stood out for me, or that I spotted in my quick run-through of some blogs:

Palin: "To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House."

Sarah Palin might have changed her mind on this one recently. However, a comment here notes that Palin actually slashed funding for schools for special needs kids by 62%. Budgets: FY 2007 (pre-Palin), 2008, 2009 (all pdfs).

UPDATE: This is wrong. As you can see if you look at the list of component budgets here (2007) and here (2009), funding for the Alaska Challenge Youth Academy was broken out into its own budget category, which accounts for the drop in funding for the original item. I regret the error. Thanks to rory in comments.END UPDATE.

Let me know when you've had enough, Big Guy.

I suppose in a few short weeks we will be hearing from the special needs childrens parents in alaska and give the real truth.

How about the special needs schools and teachers, they will give the real information.

And BTW

I'm not particularly interested in bantering back and forth and handing you your ass on a platter, but if that's the way you'd prefer we relate I can surely handle it.

If you'd rather have a more polite discussion as before that would be my preference, but if you don't I can surely handle that too.

Here's the dagger.

That isn't so hard to understand is it?

If you want to dig into their budget and find what YOUR talking about I'll be happy to look at it.
