Pretty idiotic statement when you consider what "the media" is. You take one story which might be sensationalistic and then blame the entire media for it. I think our media is just way too large to use such a broad brush when discussing "the media."
Rob says this isn't about the 2008 election on the day after the Republican candidate for VP read a speech in which she blames "the media" for covering her life, family, record, etc. It would actually be something you could be angry with the media over if they didn't do their job by doing exactly what they have been doing.
This thread has EVERYTHING to do with the 2008 election and Rob knows it.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I agree that the media sure does have a "way" of sensationalizing way too many news items. Of course, we all recognize that this type of sensationalism is all for the sake of increased ratings and we all know how much Americans love and will tune in to other people's woes, fears, and dirty laundry. Which leads me to my next point. Generally, most Americans love it until the laundry to be aired is their own...

It is my opinion, after raising two daughters of my own, that although there are 4.3 million babies born a year, even if, 'only 10' were abducted, that is just 10 too many. Rob, God forbid that this would ever happen, but I believe that if your child were to be abducted, you and your wife would feel that the other 4.3 million babies born, were of little to no importance, and would be the furthest thought from your mind. I believe that out of love for your daughter, the both of you would want EVERY media outlet to capture the American audience with the best sensationalized trailer imaginable, and then air your story as often as possible. All with a flicker of hope that the story would help in the safe recovery of your missing baby.

I do agree that the media ran wild with the trailer in this particular story, solely to capture the audience's attention, but the trailer did as it was intended...It caught your attention!

Absolutely I would want everything and everyone working to get her back, and I would tear this country apart to get her... that's different though. I'm all for Amber Alerts, and News cutins to notify the public, and doing whatever is necessary on the rare occasion that a baby is taken. What I can't stand is stories like this that are simply designed to scare the living shit out of parents when the liklihood of such a horrific event is astronomically rare.
