Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Roger Simon: On behalf of the elite media, I would like to say we are very sorry. We have asked questions this week that we should never have asked. We have asked pathetic questions like: Who is Sarah Palin? What is her record? Where does she stand on the issues? And is she is qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?

Media Elite = rightard buzzword.

Shades of DAN QUAYLE. History does repeat.

GOOPERS were complaining back then that THE MEDIA was picking on Dan Quayle.

ANYTIME someone starts blaming the media this is a red flag to alert you. Blaming the media becasue you made a mistake and you don't like the spotlight on your bullshit!

If at all, the first in line should be Chris Mathews --- but if his legs continue to twitch every time he hears Obama, he may decline to apologise.

It appears that it is sexist to ask tough questions with a woman running for vice president.

"Shades of DAN QUAYLE. History does repeat."

Oh God I hope not, Dan Quayle and George Bush won that election.

What A Joke

So when will he go after Obama for his pastor, his south-side chicago machine politics, the Horrible crime in Chicago, the horrid schools in Chicago, his lack of experience, his record of voting "present".

It is amazing lefties do not see how the double standard is so prevelant, Ask about all ths stuff you want, But don't Just do it to a mother of 5 who has actually lived and worked a middle-class life, Ask it of the harvard grad who (and I know he must be smarter and 'better" because he went to a "real" school)also has a thin resume and a lot of skeletons in his closet

If you are going to be this transparent just start your articles by saying ' I believe Obama is Messiah"

I don't think it's a "middle class life" to try to hurt public servants because they oppose your personal rise to power.

Middle class people tend to have American values. Palin doesn't.

I watched the speeches last night and I could actually feel my IQ declining. I started counting how many lies she told and I stopped because it was getting hard to concentrate with all the stupid that was flowing.

The media should start comparing the issues each candidate addresses! The media just keeps feeding the people bullcrap.

They focus more on the families, the church the past than what the candidate addresses.

Which candidate wants energy Independence? One or both? Do both candidates want to drill? Who knows because the media keeps feeding Americans crap!

I think the press has been caught at their game. They *are* biased and by going after this woman it this way, they have exposed themselves. Now they are in damage control mode.

Sure it is fine to look into this woman's record. To see what she has done, etc. But to put her daughter out there like that, is just awful and decent people know that. Rather than admit they crossed the line, they try to change the subject.

And they do not investigate Obama or Biden or the Clintons or Edwards in the same way. If you think they have treated Palin in the same way they have treated Obama you are delusional.

SAM, Palin is a LIAR---You want to believe what she says about energy independence despite that what can we do?

Some of your righties posting here should read Simon's article. It's a major league FU to the McCain-Palin crowd.

Saw - the media is run by big corporations and they "spin" for whomever they like. This so called "Liberal Media" is a bullshit right wing talking point, IMO. We can agree to disagree, but it parallels shitheads like Gingrich spouting family values while porking some chick behind his wife's back. Typical hypocrital bullshit when things aren't going in the direction you would like.

Let me also point out the Democrats and all politiicans seem to do the same thing like bitch about the media when unfavorable things are being printed about them

zed raises and interesting question, how can we use issues to make a decision.

given most politicians will lie and obfuscate and pander and the media will give the people what they want which is often salacious bullshit, how can we make a decision, what should be covered?

use the 2000 Presidential election as an example. Bush claimed he was a non-interventionist, not into nation building, etc. Well history has proven the opposite. If one looked into his character one could see the selfish, boor that he is and perhaps could have predicted the cynical power grab he made.

OTOH, i got advice from a friend many years ago, that the individual does not matter, it is the party, the party is the policy's that you will either want or not want. what party most satisfies your wishes for our country.

so is it character or is it issues?

for me I cannot see voting for a conservative or a republican, cause of what the party stands for. so my job is to get dems elected in place of repubs.

How does one go about supporting one side? tout the value of your candidate/party while pointing out the problems with the other side, make a convincing argument.

I could actually feel my IQ declining.

LOL... that's negative information for you. When you're dumber when you're finished than when you began.

From the article

But where did we go wrong with Sarah Palin? Let me count the ways:

First, we should have stuck to the warm, human interest stuff like how she likes mooseburgers and hit an important free throw at her high school basketball tournament even though she had a stress fracture.

Second, we should have stuck to the press release stuff like how she opposed the Bridge to Nowhere (after she supported it).

Third, we should never have strayed into the other stuff. Like when The Washington Post recently wrote: Palin is under investigation by a bipartisan state legislative body. Palin had promised to cooperate with the legislative inquiry, but this week she hired a lawyer to fight to move the case to the jurisdiction of the state personnel board, which Palin appoints.--

Why go there? What trees does that plant?

Fourth, we should stop making with all the questions already. She gave a really good speech. And why go beyond that? As we all know, speeches cannot be written by others and rehearsed for days. They are true windows to the soul.

Unless they are delivered by Barack Obama, that is. In which case, as Palin said Wednesday, speeches are just a cloud of rhetoric.--

Fifth, we should stop reporting on the families of the candidates. Unless the candidates want us to.

I've heard more about Palin's 17 year old unemployed pisspot than I have heard about Joe Biden's lobbyist son whose firm has succesfully lobbied good old Joe.

Having a lobbyist for a son must be tough on a ticket that sold all of it's lemmings "Hope and Change" and that also pretends to make clear that lobbyists are persona non grata.

Let's forget about Joe Biden's plagarism and racial gaffes and instead focus on a 17 year old...

Has anyone heard a single solitary word from the MSM in the past couple of weeks in regards to Bidens son, Bidens plagarism, or Bidens racial gaffe?

Analysis: GOP contradicts self on Palin family
ap.google.com

you are aware you can post articles on these issues, correct?

nah you aint aware of much

101 - I couldn't agree more with the lay off Bristol, unless you are hockey player or redneck.

My philosophy is the kids and family are off limits unless they are being paraded into the spotlight for anything more than to support their mom or dad. Attack Palin's insane abstinence only plan and point to the outcome in her family as why it doesn't work.

Now, Bristol becomes fair game if mommy decides to use her in any way for political gain, but IMO the dems would be better off to attack Mommy's policy decisions than the kid.

The media just spews whatever crap they believe will gain them the biggest audience. Palin is fresh meat so she gets all the headlines right now.

If that's what they were really asking he'd have a point... But that wasn't even close, so he's a tool and I hope he gets hepatitis.

"for me I cannot see voting for a conservative or a republican, cause of what the party stands for. so my job is to get dems elected in place of repubs."

I agree, people whine all the time about party politics but the thing is that is our system. Either change it completely or acknowledge it and use it to drive the agenda you prefer. But to all those who constantly complain about it, please just quit whining.

Typical response from one of the dumber posters on this site.

Let me ask you Copernicus, how would me posting an article on these issues in any way remedey the fact that the MSM isn't talking about them? That was afterall the point of my post.

I'm not surprised you couldn't figure that out. No go to a peace rally or go protest tag at the local grammar school you sissy.

Rob - who were you referring too? I must have missed something.

You know what the argument will be, chair...

No matter what, still better than McCain.

so your form of rebellion against media coverage is to participate in a discussion about the very topic you deride.

I am sure an assssstute fellow like yourself could find somewhere on the internet an article or 2 about subjects youare interested in, and post em here so we can discuss them. If enough buzz is generated then perhaps the MSM would pursue the issue.

or you could just be a whiny bitch.

or arent you aware that obama has been under a spotlight for weeks and just a couple days ago we were introduced to Sarah Palin.

Should the MSM NOT be discussing her?

cause if the were talking about Biden and Obama right now you wouldnt be bitching about no coverage for the repubs, right?

nahh your just a whiny bitch.

gee that took 2 seconds

August 23, 2008 here is an article about Joe Biden's son

is the Washington Post not MSM enough for you?

Totally clueless as the point whizzes right past your waterhead a second time.

"I agree, people whine all the time about party politics but the thing is that is our system."

It isn't our "system". People are free to vote for whomever they want. They just believe that continuing to vote for candidates propped up by one of two corrupt political organizations is their only choice. And since when is saying that we should stop making the same mistake over and over again "whining"?

This statement shows a gross level of sheer stupidity on your part. Looks like some hypocritical partisan bullshit to anyone that can think for them selves.

I've heard more about Palin's 17 year old unemployed pisspot than I have heard about Joe Biden's lobbyist son whose firm has succesfully lobbied good old Joe.
True it hasn't been a huge focus but has gotten a few stories and some attention. To be fair though we haven't really been hearing about Palin's ties to Jack Abramoff's lobbying firm too much either... at least yet.

Sure it is fine to look into this woman's record. To see what she has done, etc. But to put her daughter out there like that, is just awful and decent people know that. Rather than admit they crossed the line, they try to change the subject.

No one has crossed the line. When you take a harsh pro-life stance and want to remove the possibility of choice (regardless of circumstance) from a woman and then allow your daughter to make a choice... well you've just opened up the flood gates of hypocrisy. When you parade your tramp daughter around with her soon to be shotgun wed boyfriend all over national TV after claiming your family is off limits... well you've just opend up the flood gates of hypocrisy a little more. Seriously SawDust, open your eyes. I know you're pretty dense so here's a nice little Sarah Palin quote, I wrapped the important part in bold italics for your dumb ass.

We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby
- Sarah Palin

If you think they have treated Palin in the same way they have treated Obama you are delusional.
posted by Sawdust

You're right, the media has been easy on this grossly incompetent excuse for a VP nominee in comparison to how Obama has been treated.

WTF happend to some of my blockquote? Oh well.

Simun is a liar and a hit man for Obama. The elite media has been a disgrace attacking Palin's family and I hope the McCain administration throws the elite media out of the White House when he gets there. They can report their slimey gossip from K street.

101,

You were right to point out to me recently the error that I made about Kerry's "Cambodia moment" so allow me to return the favor.

The Joe Biden plagiarism situation was this: Biden had used a portion of a speech from a British politician multiple times. He provided attribution in each previous instance prior to the incident where he was accused of plagiarism. He forgot on that occasion to provide attribution. If this were a scholarly work, the first attribution would suffice for all later instances.

Point: It's a non-issue.

The press is almost shrill on this. Macbeth comes to mind, "the lady doth protest too much"... They know they were wrong. She has shown them to be wrong, now they will go after her even harder.

Yes, leave it to a rightard such as you to provide the party line of a McCain administration.

Not only is the constitution just a piece of paper we're going to suppress the freedom of the press. Your mother must wish she'd had to opportunity to use RU486 when you were a zygote.

Sawdust,

Given the level of prevarication seen on the stage last night, the media avoidance policy and the simply poor vetting of the VP candidate, I have to ask. Where and when has she shown the media to be wrong?

And...after 42 posts...the right still can't shoot any holes in Simons column. Obamas pastor, Rezko, blither, blither, blither.
More shoot the messenger and less and less substance.

As soon as Palin quits strutting out her pregnant 17 year old daughter and her daughters boyfriend for photo ops (the arrival at the airport), THEN the press should leave them alone. As long as she insists on using them as props, SHE has made them fair game.

On Wednesday morning, a teenage boy from Alaska stood in a receiving line on an airport tarmac, being glad-handed by the potential next president of the United States because he got his girlfriend pregnant.

Only in America.

If he plays his cards right, he could become a B-list celebrity and be set for life.

He needs to get a publicist and an agent right away.

An appearance on Oprah would do wonders for his career in the spotlight.

A book deal is next or maybe a spoken word album of reverent homilies interspersed with a few f bombs.

Reagan, It is what was not said in the article that is telling. Sure people should look into the background of candidates, etc.

Where I believe they crossed the line is in bringing her daughter into this. Putting her on the NYT, etc. Simon builds a straw dog here. He changes the subject. They have been proven wrong in going after the daughter in that decent people, including Obama have denounced such coverage.

I also believe that they have not scrutinized Obama or Biden in the same way.

Again, they have been caught and they know it. Rather than admit it, they just attack in greater force.

Huh? His column is crap... if he (and the media) did what he sarcasticlly says they should apologize for then I'd be on his side. But that's not what happened. They went after her daughter. They went after her as a mother. That's why a lot of Americans are pissed at the media and going to her defense (See Rasmussen poll saying 51% of americans say the media is trying to hurt palin).

His column is a deflection at best... pure bullshit at worst.

How's it crap? Or are we just exchanging opinions? Then I say it's great. Got anything substantive to add?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with looking into her experience as mayor or governor, or looking into her personal relationships or business relationships or anything she or her husband did (Husbands and wives in reality I think should be left out but they are adults and they often play major roles in administrations so I guess they're fair game).

But what the media did to palin and her daughter and newborn son is equivolent to me trashing some piece of shit artwork that malia obama probably brought home from school this week...

I don't disagree that the media crossed the line with some of their reporting. But...there has been a right wing outcry regarding most anything they want to find out about her. It's sexist! They hate moms! And all other manner of stupdidity.

How's it crap? Or are we just exchanging opinions? Then I say it's great. Got anything substantive to add?

#48 | Posted by evilpolock

Because what he's saying they should apologize for is not what the GOP was hammering the media for:

We have asked pathetic questions like: Who is Sarah Palin? What is her record? Where does she stand on the issues? And is she is qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?

All great questions... if they asked that kind of stuff you wouldn't hear one word from me.

How does story after story about Bristol Palin answer any of those questions EP? How does stories about the birth of her newborn son answer any of those questions EP? And that's not even getting into what blogs were saying about her...

I'd agree that attacking a 17 year old is pretty reprehensible. But Palin should have left the daughter and the father/fiancee in Alaska and not brought them out for the photo ops.

The things that I find most disturbing about the entire situation is that McCain and Co have and continue to show terrible judgement and the media avoidance and antagonism demonstrate that we're getting even worse than we've seen with Bush.

But...there has been a right wing outcry regarding most anything they want to find out about her. It's sexist! They hate moms! And all other manner of stupdidity.

#50 | Posted by evilpolock

But all that stems from them crossing that line we both agreed they crossed.

If all they did was what Simon says they did, and the McCain camp came out screaming sexism, and the Convention dedicated a good chunk of the night to hammering the media I think a lot of people would be very confused...

But Palin should have left the daughter and the father/fiancee in Alaska and not brought them out for the photo ops.

The slut wore a mini-skirt your honor! I had to rape her...

"If all they did was what Simon says they did, and the McCain camp came out screaming sexism, and the Convention dedicated a good chunk of the night to hammering the media I think a lot of people would be very confused..."

You're defining a very narrow view of what they can and can't ask and say, and what actually happened. That hasn't happened with Obama and shouldn't happen with Palin, if the playing field is to be truly level.
Obama is a muslim.
His wife hates America.
He's gotten illegal benefits from Rezko.
Michelle Obama used the term whitey.
NONE of this has been proven to be true. Yet the right still beats this drum. Is that fair?

Let's flip all these to Palin:

What religion is she?
Does her husband like America?
Has she received illegal benefits from a criminal?
Has her husband made racially divisive speeches?

I have no problem with asking any of those questions or anything like it...

Has anyone asked obama if he can still be a good father of 2 young girls while serving as president, or suggested he shouldn't run because he has responsibilities as a father, or have there been numerous stories in the press about his two girls?

That's my problem with the reporting...

Yes it is fair, because jesus is on our side. --the right---

Yes, Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin has a lot on her plate: a pregnant teen daughter, a son on his way to Iraq, an infant with Down syndrome and a looming national election.

But must her hair suffer?

Nevermind... I've been too hard on the media.

dumbass

Sara Palins closeted skeletons are relevant because the republican party has made family morals a huge issue in American politics. The news stories about Palins family go straight to the heart of those subjects. The republicans are the ones that made all of this fair game.

Reagan, saying that she brought them out for a photo then they are fair game??? Does that mean that since Obama had his kids with him or put them out there for an interview on (I forget what TV show) that they are fair game?

Sawdust,

Like it or hate it, fair or unfair, there's a huge difference between Obama's children who are elementary school aged and 17 and 18 year old kids that have made a huge ooops.

I feel for the Repubs. They have extremely high family value standards. That's why it's impossible for them to find someone who can actually live up to those standards.

Excellent article.

Never happen as Dems hate to apologize.

Its refreshing to see someone here actually link to The Daily Show, instead of just stealing the jokes and hoping nobody else gets Comedy Central.

I link to The Daily Show quite often. Strangely enough it usually, though not always, turns out to be the most independent and realistic view of the news. It's a bonus that it also happens to be hilarious.

Sorry I don't agree with this.

Anyone running for POTUS or VP get investigated offically and the press does it unofficially. From Edwards affair to Watergate, its the american (Woodward & Bernstien) way and its been that way for some time.

She is in the big leagues and that is to be expected.

She does not get a pass.

President Bush doesn't have a vote in the Senate. So just who is it that McCain is voting with? That would be Republicans. But wait! Most votes in the Senate are unanimous! So that would mean that for most of those votes where McCain was voting "with Bush" you would find every Democrat voting right along with McCain. Funny we don't see that in the mainstream media. Fact is, where there is an actual contested and meaningful vote in the Senate you'll find McCain voting "with Bush" only 45% of the time.
