Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Republicans Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan, caught talking on MSNBC when they thought their microphones were off, gave sharply negative assessments of the choice of Sarah Palin as vice president. "It's over," Peggy Noonan said. When Chuck Todd of NBC asked her if this was the most qualified woman the Republicans could nominate, Noonan responded, "The most qualified? No. I think they went for this, excuse me, political bullshit about narratives. Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and that's not what they're good at, they blow it."

and that's a gaffe how, exactly?

Reaganite Noonan and McCainanite Mike Murphy in a rare moment of honesty.

The didn't they the mic was on.

They didn't know the mic was on.

MUWAAHHHHAAAAHHAAHAAHAAA!

I love it. "Defeat sighted off the starboard bow!"

I feel like a beer.

Why isn't this thread on the front page? Having Peggy Noonan question the qualifications of Palin on what she mistakenly beieves is a closed Mic is pretty stunning. Very indicative of what the GOP leadership is saying among themselves.

and that's a gaffe how, exactly?

's what i'm thinking? how did this video file get outside msnbc? if this was a gaffe, somebodys head would roll.

Maybe it was accidentally on purpose, similar to the one over at Fox a month or so ago with Jesse Jackson.

What I found interesting was that Mike Murphy was on later in the day, spinning away how positive all this Palin nonsense is.

More and more apparent this is just a game.

Kinda like golf with your buds. You're trying to bury them but applaud their good shots and hang out for a beer and bs after the round.

What I found interesting was that Mike Murphy was on later in the day, spinning away how positive all this Palin nonsense is.

TED

Ah, but once he thought the cameras were off.

Mike Murphy is still probably the most believable pundits for the right. He'll call a spade a spade and let the chips fall where they may. I always enjoy his perspective on Meet The Press.

This reeks of Harriet Myers. She will do well tonight but that might not stop the droves of undecided voters who are currently running away from the Mccainiac

Peggy Noonan has been interesting lately. She tells it like it is.

"It's over" meaning November, not Palin staying on the ticket.

She is right. McCain has blown whatever credibility he had left, and if you are alert to his changes over the past six months, there wasn't much left.

Noonan is right about half the time, but ultimately, she's a New York/D.C. person with little grasp of Flyover Country.

McCain and Osama are the lamest candidates in decades; Joe Biden is a pathetic veep.

Palin is the only interesting thing about this election. She creates a variable that clearly scares Dems and inspires Conservatives.

Are there other qualified people other than Sarah?

Sure--

Just like there are other qualified poeple other than Obama.

It will be interesting to hear Peggy after she gets to know Sarah a bit better.

Same for Mike.

Same for some of the DR's..;o)

She needs to be THE Political Analyst for CNN, just make sure she thinks her microphone is OFF at all times. What the hell, only the Conservatives are to be put on the spot for stupid comments!

If this is what is expected AND the norm for this political cycle we're up the friggin' river! RETARDS!

The fact that he never tried to secure his base bit him in the ass big time, so they had to revert to the old strategy with this pick.

It will be interesting to hear Peggy after she gets to know Sarah a bit better.

And the same to you, Murphy.

(There is some sense in you, somewhere, I know it)

Doem - he changed his base to something that has no base. The dumbo right will embrace Palin and not even notice her inadequacy, in order for them to accept McCain.

Normal people will just not vote Republican.

And Vernon, stop being tiresome with the name of the next President, there's a good boy.

Sitdown

He thinks it's clever.

He thinks it's clever.

Sitdown--

I think that is the biggest misconception among far right and far left: That all you need to win an election is to get the "party faithful" out to vote. If you can't get moderate voters to vote, you will lose. In that sense Mccain found himself in a double bind. He couldnt pick a moderate VP because the polls suggested that he would be creamed by social conservatives. He couldn't pick a far right candidate like Palin because it would scare away the moderate vote. I think as Republicans they decided that they had to stick to what they knew: Social Conservatives

It's over people.....

Guess the apple REALLY doesn't fall far from the tree...

The party of family values??? or frat pary?

Even Texas Tom DeLay is around. ABC cornered him sneaking through the back door going to a private part_ee to play some grabass with lawmakers.

Seems like old times at Bush High

I think once people get to know Palin, they will wish they hadn't. Those who know her best and who differed in opinion only slightly with her know her as a vindictive, two-faced barracuda.

Nearly 80% of the US populace will have at least one substantive difference of opinion with Palin. I would love to catch her on mike responding to her questioners on one hot uncomfortable topic after another.

Newsweek in 2007 on Palin: "Now This Is Womans Work"

"There are more female governors in office than ever before, and they are making their mark with a pragmatic, postpartisan approach to solving state problems."
"In Alaska, Palin is challenging the dominant, sometimes corrupting, role of oil companies in the state's political culture. "The public has put a lot of faith in us," says Palin during a meeting with lawmakers in her downtown Anchorage office, whereas if to drive the point homethe giant letters on the side of the ConocoPhillips skyscraper fill an entire wall of windows. "They're saying, 'Here's your shot, clean it up'." For Palin, that has meant tackling the cozy relationship between the state's political elite and the energy industry that provides 85 percent of Alaska's tax revenuesand distancing herself from fellow Republicans, including the state's senior U.S. senator, Ted Stevens, whose home was recently searched by FBI agents looking for evidence in an ongoing corruption investigation. (Stevens has denied any wrongdoing.)"

Ahh, what the difference a year makes. Newsweek now disregards all of the above to protect Obama.

She creates a variable that clearly scares Dems and inspires Conservatives.

You are confusing mocking with fear.

KBM

How so? could you post a link?

And anyway, KBM. A fluff article on Women governors (not even Palin specifically) will be much different than an article examining the most controversial VP choice since Perot. Do you not understand that?

"...Palin is the only interesting thing about this election. She creates a variable that clearly scares Dems and inspires Conservatives....Posted by vernon"

Interesting like watching a train wreck is interesting.

You really are a Moron, arencha' Vermin?

And BTW the so called 'Fly over states' are history. Your Boy Bush and his friends made sure of that.

Obama in Iowa: 15 point lead.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
AHAHAHAHA!

Hey KBM The dr left does not let facts get in the way of them while trying to create anxiety!

BTW Who really gives a shit what they say, there votes are already in for the "messiah"

^^^ And your vote was already for Mitt Rommney until he dropped out. Then you committed your vote to McCain because the (R) is your messiah.

one of the several problems with that "messiah" stuff is that Obama or his party have never used that term or anything like it, while the Republicans assume that "God" is on their side, while they are still able to turn the term "messiah" into a negative, which goes completely against what their "God" would tolerate.

But then, Republicans, Hypocrisy is thy name.

And they shall be cast into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, the republican hypocrites.

And here is the Real Deal on the Noonan "gaffe".

Something quite different.

She did use a bleep word?

But the "It's Over" comment is out of context.

Like a lot of other Palin "Talking Points" of the left this will be ignored and they'll continue to hammer away at a falsehood as if it was a fact. But what the hell it only works in favor of McCain/Palin and helps save us from 0bama/Biden. Thanks Murphy.

^^^
so she writes an article backtracking to save her ass? That's your big revelation? wonderful. What can unequivocally be stated from watching that video is that they all thought she was a horrible pick. And that my friends, is even more wonderfrul

#34 - maybe the "It's over" comment was out of context, maybe not. But what remains is that PN is exactly right, this thing is cynical and gimmicky, and bullshit. And you love it.

After listening to Palin's speech, I think she will be a tough campaigner and she will help energize the McCain campaign. But, referring back to my previous, she will be quizzed like heck on international issues and sophisticated policy issues. She is a lot more articulate than the current POTUS but, like him, she hasn't got a lot of international experience, nor does she have more than a jousting politicians knowledge of more technical policy issues. And she hasn't shaken her reputation as an ideologue, which will be a lightening rod for personal attacks down the road.

"But, referring back to my previous, she will be quizzed like heck on international issues and sophisticated policy issues."

I have a feeling the GOP flaks will be surrounding her with a cocoon, making sure she's involved as much as possible only in carefully scripted events and rigidly controlled venues. She only has to limp through one debate.

She'll fit right in with McCain, though. Her hypocrisy seems to know no bounds, e.g. her prattling about how she said "Thanks, but no thanks" on the so-called Bridge to Nowhere. GOPiggies, ask yourselves: What happened to the $200 million-plus for that bridge? Do you think Palin returned it? Think again.

here's a talking poit scotch. What IS the trans Canada pipeline? Where's it come from where does it lead, how much public (federal) money was invested, how much energy can it deliver?

What is the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history.

How does getting that built after a 30 year deadlock compare to community service work?

But the "It's Over" comment is out of context.

Do you really buy her explanation? I read it as a big CYA. She denounced the Palin pick as "political bullshit."

As to Noonan and Murphy, do not forget these are media people who live on 'sensation'...their real points of view are protected through the need to get out whatever sells and keeps their paychecks coming...as the contrast in Noonan's article and her 'open mic' comments... very little and real substance in these people..

.......Palin a mistake......

...said Newt Gingrich on the Daily Show last night, saying that he agreed with Rove that Palin was a mistake.......

......rare honesty from the faithful.......

Skiz,

Both Gingrich and Rove commented favorably on Palin last night, BEFORE she gave her speech.

Of course MSNBC released this. Of course you guys like "Mike Murphy", he's a shill for MSNBC.

Nevermind Noonans rebuttal though...

Who's this Americanconversion punk anyway, and why does he keep repeating the same empty horseshit?
Jon Favreau

And here is the Real Deal on the Noonan "gaffe".
- Murphy.

Please, you are naive!
This is Peggy trying to save her ass after hearing the totally honest stuff that came out of her mouth. What else is "over"? Her "explanation" of that for her column is years out of date.
The Real Deal is what those people were heard saying and the tone in which they said it. On camera they are actors. Off camera ("Off mike") they say what they mean.

New slogan for the Republicans: "Blame the media"

"BLAME we can believe in"

Let your ankles down and suck it up, Noonan on You Tube.

www.youtube.com

And she's correct it is over.

Just wait...who do you think will get pissed off the MOST by a McCain/Palin presidency?

It'll be Republicans.

Rush Limbaugh hates McCain more than Obama, he just can't do crap about it.

And Noonan was weak in the knees last week over Obama. I was a little surprised. But NOW it makes sense.

I guess you all know opinions are like ass holes. Most of them stink.

*** Skiz,

......catch the Daily Show interview with Newt, he seems to have changed his mind real quick.......

What is amazing to me is you neo-Marxists will sell your mother to try to hurt conservatives. What is more amazing is you idiots dont research anything beyond what you read on this piece of crap blog.

Noonan was not saying the race is over, that is what the leaker wants you to think. In her own words what she was talking about is assuming that the republican base is inline with what the American people believes is not always true, those days are over.--

"....that party leaders seem to me stuck in the assumptions of 1988 and 1994, the assumptions that reigned when they were young and coming up. "The first lesson they learned is the one they remember," I said to Todd -- and I'm pretty certain that is a direct quote. But, I argued, that's over, those assumptions are yesterday, the party can no longer assume that its base is utterly in line with the thinking of the American people. And when I said, "It's over!" -- and I said it more than once -- that is what I was referring to."

online.wsj.com

In a Washington Post interview, Karl Rove admits that the Sarah Palin pick was "not a governing decision but a campaign decision."

"It's over". I've been saying that for months.

MUTT: "Explaining" after the fact in order that you don't get into too much trouble from the WSJ or the party, Mutt, is more like Peggy Noonan selling her mother to save her ass. Don't be naive.

"What is more amazing is you idiots dont research anything beyond what you read on this piece of crap blog." Posted by Muttley

Says the blowhard who yesterday cited a "poll" that said half of all democratic women were ready to vote for McCain. Then just couldn't seem to produce it.

SANANTONIOROGUE,

Since you are obcessed with this issue lets put it to bed. I looked for the article, I didn't find it. I read hundreds of articles a week and I'm sorry if this gets your panties in a wad but I can't find the site where the poll was posted.

I thought it was Rassmussion.com but when I went there I couldn't find it.

The question asked in the poll was "Given what you know today are you more likely to vote the Obama/Biden ticket or the McCain/Palin ticket."

The resulsts were:
(percent likely to vote McCain/Palin)
Democratic Women: 41% (I know, not quite half)
Republician Women: 89%
Independents:53%

Now you can either accept my appoligies that I can't find the link or stuff it, your choice.

Sorry Muttley - its Link or Stink.

And thus far, you stink to high heaven.

"I looked for the article, I didn't find it. "

Then that would be the time to retract.

Danforth,

As an engineer that lives by the creed "One good piece of data is worth a thousand expert opinions." I agree.

I hereby retract the statement that I read a poll that said half of Democratic women said your ticket sucks. If I find it I will repost.

Happy?

Maybe it was accidentally on purpose, similar to the one over at Fox a month or so ago with Jesse Jackson.

that right wing conspiracy again??????????

wouldnt you think that all of these smart people might see a mic and think about all of the other times people have gotten overheard.........

I have a feeling the GOP flaks will be surrounding her with a cocoon, making sure she's involved as much as possible only in carefully scripted events and rigidly controlled venues. She only has to limp through one debate.

Talking to independents and moderate Republicans, that's not going to fly. If she goes back into hiding, independents have said they won't be able to respect that.
Palin needs to go out and prove to people that she's ready to be President if McCain keels over. To do that, she needs to go out and do interviews and take tough questions. Off script.

Democratic Women: 41% (I know, not quite half)

you know that is really funny and odd because I read the same article (that I also couldn't find) that had these numbers:

(percent likely to vote McCain/Palin)
Democratic Women: 12% (I know, not quite half)
Republician Women: 36%
Independents:2%

Incredible, isn't it?

It is. I read the same pole and the numbers were completely different. I just can't figure it out.

Funny I read a report that said sniper and Geezer were lovers and sniper felt cheated.

poor mutt...just making up shit like in second grade...

Apparently nobody on this blog has actually BOTHERED to read Noonan's column where she explains what she ACTUALLY MEANT by "Its over".

If they did the Left Wingers would be jumping off of cliffs instead of dancing in the streets here.

Ah the miracles of the Internet. You can make a pig fly or Nancy Piglosi actually look like she hasn't risen from a grave at midnight.

You can also re-edit an open mic conversation to mean something totally different than what was actually being said...

She was right about one thing, it is over... for the Empty Suited Messiah and his Hair Club for Men running mate!

Peggy explains herself--you folks decide.

She is entitled to her opinion and so are you.

Sarah has more experience than Obama--it's all pretty funny.

And now they want to send poor Michelle Obama as the attack dog against Sarah.

That will not be an endearing quality for a potential First Lady.

Not for the 20% center/independent voters.

Peggy tried to cover her tracks.

Here it is:
