Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Rick Davis, campaign manager for John McCain's presidential bid, insisted that the presidential race will be decided more over personalities than issues during an interview with Post editors this morning. "This election is not about issues," said Davis. "This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates."

More of the same from the GOP.

All while they deride Obama, who's been running a campaign based on 'the issues' as a 'cult of personality'.

Oh, and Davis is horribly wrong. THIS election Americans WANT it to be about the issues.

Hopefully, they'll clean house one day and become a party that actually stands for something other than against gay marriage and a women's choice.

Hopefully, they'll clean house one day and become a party that actually stands for something other than against gay marriage and a women's choice to be a VP candidate.

Oops.

Anyone else starting to think that the McCain camp is TRYING to lose this election on purpose?

I have no idea why they would, but their actions and words sure don't look like anything a winner does or says.

McCain appears to be thowing himself under the bus. I can only wonder why....

PINCHE

The GOP has run on 'moral issues' the last several election cycles.

Pretend they don't and then.... to quote SanAntonioRogue you can:

"Hop on your winged white unicorn and fly off to lollipop land"

Oh, and while you're at it, don't add to my comments when quoting and pretend they're my words.

Oops

"Anyone else starting to think that the McCain camp is TRYING to lose this election on purpose?"

Perhaps not trying but probably resigned to the idea that they will. I thought a little about that and I have a theory that Sarah Palin was chosen with that in mind. By choosing her the Republicans throw a big bone to the religious right who were not too happy about McCain or any moderate. They don't want to piss them off even if they are going to lose the presidency, there is still all the Congressional races. This nomination might help some Congressional candidates by bringing out larger crowds in some normally red states that are beginning to lean blue.

"Anyone else starting to think McCain is TRYING to lose this election on purpose?"

The GOP shuts its eyes tight and swings from the heels when it hears the ball is near, hoping that somehow, some way, the GOP will hit one out of the park.

Trying to lose on purpose seems unlikely, but these are desperate times for Bush, Rove and McWho. With real luck, this one will mark the end of Republicanism as we know it. herm

Oh, and while you're at it, don't add to my comments when quoting and pretend they're my words

That's why yours are in italics and mine aren't, dipshit.

And feel free to step over here and make me stop.

As a prototypical effeminate white male liberal, it might be a refreshing break from trashing 17 year old little girls on the internet.

That might be the kind of change you can believe in. :)

Think about it, puke.

Oooooooooo Threats.

I'm shaking I tell ya

And more false charges from the most vile and pissed off poster on Drudge.

Psychic too he thinks....

You're a funny little man

The GOP HOPES it is not about issues, after their catastrophic 8 year turn at wrecking the republic through wars and debt.

Not about issues?

and they ask me why I drink!

Anyone else starting to think that the McCain camp is TRYING to lose this election on purpose?

I definitely get a "The Producers" vibe from his campaign sometimes.

FF for Rcade:

"It's Springtime For Hitler and Germany..."

As I watch Rudi it appears issues is not on the agenda.

Nothing but a continued try at character bashing of Obama. Sounds like the republicans are not proud of their own experience and ideas so bashing someone elses must fit the bill.

Yep. Not a thing on the issues yet.

Did hear Romney practically call Alito and Roberts liberals. That was a hoot.

This election WILL be on the issues whether or not the GOP wants it to be.

Drill, baby, drill--that's a campaign slogan for bit oil, no?

The Dems want to increase terrorists?!?

RCADE

In all fairness CORKY posted a thread on this before I did.

Maybe you should replace this one with his.

All political campaigns are nothing more than popularity contests. The average person is completely clueless 100 percent of the time. Where he/she not an idiot, he/she wouldn't vote for ANY of these rich lying cocksuckers who don't give a fuck about them.

portland.indymedia.org

Today... wouldn't surprise me if they hired and brought in a ton of them for political advisors and pollsters - (hey they got pHD's and they're cheap!)

Would explain a lot of the weirdness...

You have to admit that having her on the ticket is a brilliant move. Her daughter's pregnancy diverts attention from all the issues that we should be focusing on.

And if McCain is unable to fulfill his term, her handlers will be able to control her more easily than GW. You don't need brains to be president just know how to listen.

I there was ever going to be an election which needed to be about the issues
it's the election of 2008.

McCain appears to be thowing himself under the bus. I can only wonder why....

Two possible reasons.

1. He's still angry over the bashing he took from Bush and Rove in 2000. He's not really all that happy with the policy Bush set out with so he's doing the only thing he can to destroy that policy. Tearing down the GOP, removing them from any kind of control then expecting to work with the democrats come January to make changes to the system.

oooor.

2. He's bat shit crazy and doesn't know that the fuck is going on. The only thing he can remember is that "he's a maverick" and "he's supposed to do some shit that people won't expect". So he chose Sara Palin as his running mate and actually let her speak in front of a crowd.

And feel free to step over here and make me stop.

Boy, you're tough.

Not a mention yet of the issues Americans care about at the RNC convention.

The usual "Obama will raise your taxes" (they're talking to the wealthiest Americans? - his plan lowers them on 95% of Americans, MORE than McCain), Commander in Chief, Guns, blah blah blah

I sure hope America cares more this time about the election being run on the issues they care about than distractions and wedge issues.

Romney really made a case for the Democrats. Among other chestnuts like practically calling Alito and Roberts liberals he said:

"You want the party of big ideas and not the party of Big Brother"

I almost spit my coffee on that one. He couldn't have been more right about wanting Democrats after 8 years of Big Brother's growing larger and larger, snooping in every corner.

"When you dont have it on the facts, pound the law. When you dont have it on the law, pound the table"

That was a table-pounding night for the GOP.

It was so mean spirited, untruthful, and self serving all night long the only person missing from the lineup was Montgomery Burns.

Not an issue based on the truth the whole night long.

Oh, and not a mention of George W Bush either.

Middle America heard nothing tonight but mean spirited attacks only the stupidest Joe Sixpack or ultrapartisan Republican could agree with.

With America in all the trouble it's in this is the best case they could lay out for voting McCain-Palin?

I'm somewhat flabbergasted. No. I'm dumbfounded at the cynical untruthfulness and fear mongering they fed the hall in Minnesota, but I doubt resonated with an American public tired of this kind of politics, and hungry for details on issues of deep concern to them. Instead they were fed a steady diet of cynicism, fear, and lies. Way to go GOP.

Ben Stein (R) on Sarah Palin last night after the speech:

www.youtube.com

"You want the party of big ideas and not the party of Big Brother"

The hypocrisy in that statement is so real that I can taste it. Good god.

Burn your American hats and put on your Republican hats, the storm has passed on

War,

No burn the American flag and take up with the israeli, just ask palin, she displayed this across America and at the convention no less.

Facts work: Illinois has the 5th Highest unemployment in the country at 7.3%. Illinois is in the Top 10 of the country for the highest foreclosures rate.

Illinois is proof that, in 11 years, Obama never had a "housing plan" or a "jobs plan."

But his charm is visible from the moon....

Not a word about the real issues that face us as individuals and a nation. No solutions. No Plans. Just partisan attacks and, most groteequely, attacks on "Washington" where the Republicans have been in charge for most of the last 8 years.

Is this the first time a party has run against itself?

Sorry for the typo...they are 13th. Predatory lending is so bad in Illinois that you have to have a background check and pass an exam to be a licensed loan officer. That obviously is not enough.

Me too... then I remember how that "worked out" in the end.

Here's a funny article I found in the Village Voice yesterday.
www.villagevoice.com

It is not about the issues. As long as the average Americans game does not get interrupted on Sunday and they do not run out of pizza and beer then they could care less!

Watch your game and drink your beer skittles!

Yes, the "bread and circus" argument. I'm afraid you may be right about that.

Her speech great for the base, but the base cant get McCain elected, they need undecided and moderates, will a message of hate suffice against a message of hope? Where did they get their marketing skills? How does inane attacks get you votes? Suggest UCLA, they have a good marketing school. Insulting potential voters gets you NO votes!

Republicans are now grasping at straws. Night is day, black is white, good is bad, up is down.

Romney's Big Brother comment and Guiliani's Al-Queda comments are proof positive that these conservatives have now resorted to downright lying and believing in fantasy.

It's a brilliant plan. The only question is, will it work.

Well gee, isn't this interesting.

www.youtube.com

So it's not just her husband who shares the views of the AIP.

Dear God,
Please don't let this election be about issues.
John McSame

Rick Davis doesn't make that decision we do.

Somebody better make it about issues before we go bankrupt because of trade deficits, outrageous government spending, wars all over the world we can't afford, and millions of jobs outsourced. Debt to China.

We're supposed to buy into the fantasy that Governor Bunny Boots is the most competent Republican woman the party could find?

Where are the real Republicans? This whole convention is a feel-good soap opera. We need competence and leadership. Not some snarky attack on the Dems.

Absolutely right! This is not about issues. This is about can America survive another 4 years of disastrous economic decisions that only benefit the uber-rich? Can America survive another 4 years of disastrous domestic energy decisions that only benefit the uber-rich oil barons? Can America - and the world - survive another 4 years of international policies that are decided because someone 'hear's God's voice" in the Oval Office? Can America - and the world - survive another 4 years of disastrous environmental decisions based on what is good for international corporations but not so good if we want to continue to breathe actual air or grow crops during a world-wide meltdown. This election is about the survival of the United States of America as a democracy in which the concerns of the people are taken into consideration by the three CO-EQUAL branches of government, the survival of the Constitution and Bill of Rights of the United States of America and the survival of the Middle Class of America and if you think it ain't and if McBush and Palin actually get their hands on the White House and the Federal government, then God help us all. But no sweat guys - it ain't all that important. HA.

DDENTON

Isn't it ironic that Palin speaks of 'reigning in government spending' yet she ballooned the budgets of Wasilla and Alaska? In Wasilla to the point they hired a city administrator to take over her job? Left them in debt?

It's easy to make claims about 'balancing the budget' in Alaska when oil revenues are gushing in and there are no pressing issues on that end.

ONNA

Palin didn't do well with focus groups. They may throw red meat at the GOP, but it's middle America that's hurting and will decide this election.

What a bunch of phony baloney BS. And that jet? Ya, she listed it on eBay, and when it didn't sell they sold it through a broker who sold it at a half a million dollar loss.

Once the smoke and mirrors clear from the GOP convention this election will still be decided on the issues. So far the GOP convention has been Bush Convention III - full of rhetoric at odds with reality.

Jon Stewart SMASHED the rightards and there pundits/leaders for their COMPLETE INCONSISTENCIES on several Palin issues.

Watch the FANTASTIC video of Rove, O'Really and Hanutty get their ass handed to them.

When you're right, you're right. Be big and admit it.

During his campaign I said that McCain had "tanked" his chances. I thought he had hit a limit.

WRONG!!!

No selection is EVER about issues. It's about who is the bigger whore for the powerful. That is who the corporate media will declare the winner, and that is who the moronic populace will 'select'...

President Bush doesn't have a vote in the Senate. So just who is it that McCain is voting with? That would be Republicans. But wait! Most votes in the Senate are unanimous! So that would mean that for most of those votes where McCain was voting "with Bush" you would find every Democrat voting right along with McCain. Funny we don't see that in the mainstream media. Fact is, where there is an actual contested and meaningful vote in the Senate you'll find McCain voting "with Bush" only 45% of the time.
