The funny thing about that is that there are so many things wrong with McCain that putting the focus on Palin's daughter and the lie about McCain killing over a hundred sailors distracts from.

Obama seems to get that by saying he respects McCain's service and focusing on his policy positions, but his supporters don't. And the people voting are likely to conflate Obama's views with that of his supporters (the reps will make sure of that).

She supports abstinence-only education with the sole basis for that claim being an answer to an either-or question of 'abstinence sex ed' (Notice the lack of the word "only" vs. 'explicit sex ed' which includes school-run clinics and free contraception distributed at school.) She needs to clarify her stance on this, but the "non-vitriolic" lefties have already assigned a position to her that she hasn't necessarily taken.
5. Her daughter is a whore, a dumb bitch, and got this way because her mom is a shitty parent. "Maybe she'd learn to keep her legs closed, if Palin was a better mom" - this one of course coming from the group touting the distribution of condoms in school because - teens are going to have sex anyway.
6. That Trig is actually Bristol's son and that Palin went to great lengths to obfuscate this fact.

You are either blind or willfully ignorant if you don't see this.

We've also uncovered some serious and well-reasoned criticisms of her and her ability to be #2.

That may or may not be her position. Impossible to tell based solely upon her answer on that questionaire, as I've outlined above. I'll use myself as an illustration:

I believe that a responsible, comprehensive sex-ed program should include extolling to virtues of abstinence to the point of it being a moral judgement. To that, I believe that kids should learn about various methods of contraception, and what their risks as well as prevention statistics are. STD's should be matter-of-factly covered as well. I am opposed to distributing contraception at school and have serious reservations about in-school sex clinics. Many on your side would characterize this stance as "abstinence-only."

2 personal examples:

My family:

I work full-time and my wife works part-time. Our parents watch our boys 2 days per week. I guess that makes us 'shitty parents' according to the 'It Takes a Village' crowd. My backyard neighbors do the exact same thing for their 2 girls.

My neighbors accross the street both work full-time. They have an au paire (sp?) who watches their children during the day. They vetted the shit out of every au paire they've had and all have been nice and very engaged with the kids, based upon my observations. Both are actively engaged parents and their kids are nice, well-adjusted kids - their middle boy has special needs, he has systic phibrosis (sp?). Dad coached his middle son's little league team and they do a lot of family things on the weekends. I guess that makes them shitty parents.

Given that I am well aware of how they parent their children, I'd chalk it up to their daughter making a serious mistake - a mistake that lots of other teens make (unprotected vaginal intercourse) without the misfortune of poor timing within the menstrual cyclce. Furthermore, contraception isn't 100% foolproof. My college roommate had a condom break on him when he was nailing his girlfriend. They nervously bit their nails waiting for her next period, which came 2 weeks late.

Lastly, in what way does a mistake made by her daughter in any way disqualify her for VP? As Murphy pointed out, Biden's kids made mistakes too.

Unless you plan on accompanying your unmarried children on every date they have, your "methods" may fail as well. Unplanned pregnancies among teenagers happen to families from all backgrounds.

My kids are 5 and 3 1/2 (so I don't have to worry about this for some time). Also, I think my wife and I are very good parents. But, I'm not naive enough to think this kind of thing could never happen to us because we are so wonderful.

Good points, ANTON. DAN, you've been around the block and know it to be the case. Sure, there's the obvious trailer park trash that abandon their kids... but for the great, great majority of parents out there they do the best they know to do - they love their kids and try to instill a good foundation of right/wrong.

And still, despite that love and instruction, the kids will do what they want to do. Sometimes the acts are miniscule and don't make the newspapers. Other times they lead to arrest, death, or pregnancy.

When you went off to college, did you do things your parents had told you not to? As a teen, did you?

We all did. Does that mean your parents failed you? Hardly. Human behavior isn't like a math equation where you always get the same outcome given the same input.

But this incident certainly shines a spotlight on the education and information we're giving our kids, and the ed & info Sarah Palin might want to give, or the laws she might want to pass. And all this comes on the heels of an administration known to fudge the facts when it comes to abstinence programs. Plus, no abortion in the case of rape?!? According to Fox News, that goes against 70% of the nation.

Hey, this is just another case of deja vous. As I recall, one of William Jefferson Blyth III a.k.a. William Jefferson Clinton's claim to fame was that he had military experience because he was CINC of the Arkansas National Guard. I consider the fact that a governor being the CINC of the national guard to be of no importance. However, the fact that Palin has been the governor of AK for close to two years is of more importance. Neither of the two US Senators can make a claim of having done anything nearly that difficult. That is especially true of Obama. Hell, Obama doesn't even know that you place your right hand over your heart when saying the pledge of allegiance. In the photo I saw of him, he looked like he was being inconvenienced by the ceremony. I think he's a pompous ass! Also, I'd hate to see his butt ugly wife as first lady!

How much longer are you people going to perpetuate this myth? The picture you saw was not the pledge of allegiance, it was the playing of the national anthem. It was one time and he stood respectfully, which is the appropriate modern custom. At other times he's been seen with his hand held correctly.

At least some of what you are talking about is taken care of by the Coast Guard, parks services and law enforcement. If she's called up the national guard there must be a record of it.

No one has still brought up records of how many times she called upon the National Guard. Assuming that the state is large has blizzards and other natural disasters is not the same thing as actual empirical evidence. Until a record is shown that she called upon the National Guard she has no commander in chief experience.

Unless the Alaskan National Guard has lots of boats I doubt they'd ever take on the Russians out there in the middle of the Bering Straight where the border is.
