From the GOP platform - now released:
We support a human life
amendment to the Constitution, and we endorse legislation
to make clear that the Fourteenth
Amendments protections apply to unborn children.
Which is just simply odd if that was where the GOP stopped:
Amendment XIV
1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the
jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State
wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge
the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any
State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of
law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the
laws.
How many Republicans even know what the 14th Amendment states? How do they get around that? By stating:
Faithful to the first guarantee of the Declaration
of Independence, we assert the inherent dignity and
sanctity of all human life and affirm that the unborn
child has a fundamental individual right to life which
cannot be infringed.
They don't want to apply the provisions of the 14th Amendment to the unborn (which clearly the 14th Amendment states those provisions do NOT apply), they want to change, through another Amendment, "born" to "born and unborn."
Which clearly means, should a woman seek an abortion and have one, she will be culpable for solicitation of murder. The doctor performing the abortion will be guilty of murder. The only options will be the ones used in a murder defense. There is no dancing around it.
What does it mean if someone visiting conceives while on U.S. soil?
That is one HUGE can of worms that only a superficial individual, driven by emotion, would grant.
