Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

VENICE (Reuters) - Revered Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki has no intention of swapping his pencil for computer graphics and will keep hand drawing his films for as long as he can, he said on Sunday.

His animated features are incredible. Not a bad movie in the bunch.

A true artist.

His films are absolutely amazing, the detail and motion are second to none.

Good for him. I still can't believe that South Park made the switch from stop-motion to computers, but I'm guessing cost and profit were the main issues there.

A true artist.

So true artists don't use computers? It's a tool...just like pencil and paper.....

I know what you mean, but I still feel like it's kinda cheating when dealing with animation.

I feel the same way about how CGI animation has pretty much eliminated the techniques of using miniatures, camera tricks, and stop-motion photography in non-animated major films. Even relatively bad movies like Under Seige 2 used really interesting ways to capture some of the scenes-most notably the train wreck at the end of the movie.

The external vehicle shots were done with miniatures and slow motion, and the one shot from inside the train was done using a full scale train hitting an open train car while the camera was pointed at a mirror angled at 45 degrees positioned at the open end of one of the train cars. That way, the full destruction could be filmed without damaging a very, very expensive camera.

Pretty clever stuff.

I hear ya, Ness...

I love the old stuff, but I love the new computer-generated stuff, too...

South Park is not art. It's social commentary, but don't confuse a bunch of cartoon cutouts to animation.

Did I say that? Are you just a piece of shit looking for a toilet?

They did stop motion for the first episode of season one. Every other episode was computer generated.
