Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Here are excerpts from the editorials in the two leading Alaskan papers: "Palin is not ready for the top job. McCain seems to have put his political interests ahead of the nation's when he created the possibility that she might fill it." and "It's stunning that someone with so little national and international experience might be heartbeat away from the presidency."

Those who know her best say she's not up to it. And the GOPers are hitting the hardest.

I give her about 48 more hours and the GOP better pray that Gustav doesn't turn west into Mexico. They need time to figure out how to dig out from McCain's "maverick" ego which threatens to bash them like Katrina did New Orleans.

It's ironic that they may now be hoping that Gustav pushes Palin off the front pages. Hahahahaha.

Oh no. not two top newspapers! Now I guess I have to change my mind. I am now a dem. Give me a baby to kill.

Methinks the two lefties above are doing a lot of wishful thinking.

reinheitsgebot just taught me the fine art of character assassination. A true skill of the dems.

"reinheitsgebot just taught me the fine art of character assassination. "

You call dems "baby killers" and you have the gall to whine about character assassination? If you know someone who is killing babies you should call the police, moron.

Wake up fellow moron, the Dems platform advocates killing babies, Sucking out their brains, or chopping them up. want some photos?

"Wake up fellow moron,"

Fellow moron? So you're conceding you're a moron. Ok.

uh yeah. who isn't a moron in some way?

That's true. The most brilliant people can be morons in some aspects of their lives.

And I am proof of your statement.

Its hilarious watching all the lemming righties blather on and on about Palin since their usual sources of information are spewing the company line without ever bothering to research what her record and other intimates are saying about her beforehand.

Except not in Alaska. There are no Democrats in Alaska, or not enough to elect a governor during GOP corruption run amok. Yet these same people are almost unanimous in their feeling of their own governor not being remotely skilled enough to guide their state, much less this nation in a time of war and crisis.

I'm going to make another prediction right now:

Not only will Palin have to go, the GOP will probably have to jettison McCain as well due to some "immediate health issues". You guys don't realize how Palin is going to reverberate throughout the entire Party, making them look like idiots for ever touting her as the best the Party has to offer and "ready to lead". McCain has sold your soul for a bag of plugged nickels.

My guess is that we'll see a ticket with Romney at the head and another woman as VP. The faithful would probably like Huckabee instead, but after setting an example with Palin, can they go back to two men only a week removed?

you wrote this stinky thread huh?
Just another frightened baby killer?

Tonybama is always a wishful thinker. Meanwhile his savior's choice of VP is another Cheney. Notice his silence on the issue.

"And I am proof of your statement."

Yes you are. You run around here calling people "baby killers." As I said before, if you know of someone who is killing babies you should call the police.

I see you are one of those who thinks geography has something to do with calling it a baby or bio mass.
In that case, you to my friend are

never mind.

Tony

As weird and interesting as this political season has been so far, I have a hunch your prediction is more accurate than Kristol's on the back page.

Nothing would surprise me over the next two months.

Except maybe Rightisright and Cookfish coming out...

for Obama.

"Tonybama is always a wishful thinker. Meanwhile his savior's choice of VP is another Cheney. Notice his silence on the issue."

Poor Ray. He stands on the sidelines shouting at everybody, but nobody pays attention, no one debates him, nobody cares.

Meanwhile his savior's choice of VP is another Cheney.

Since you follow and comment about me like a stalker, perhaps you've missed the threads where I discuss my dismay with both Obama and Biden over their stance on Georgia. I agree that our foreign policy is too Israel-centered, but I feel that Biden can be moved by logic and the people's voice where Cheney can't be compelled to budge by the Supreme Court and the entire Justice Department.

Big difference in my opinion. Its a step in the right direction. You seem to think I believe one election will turn everything 180. That isn't it at all. I believe that Obama/Biden will listen to others saying things which you and I agree need to be changed, and they might make incremental movement in our preferred direction. To me, that's something to work for, not deride on a daily basis.

As Obama says, we're the change, not just him, so I'm trying my best.

Speaking of Cheney, please tell me he wasn't anywhere near Ohio on Friday.

Makes perfect sense, McCain pulls an Eagleton on Sarah, Cheney points out that everything would be much simpler if he just stayed on as VP.

Poor Ray. He stands on the sidelines shouting at everybody, but nobody pays attention, no one debates him, nobody cares.

That's really funny considering how Nulli followed me around for three years. Am I free of him at last?

"Since you follow and comment about me like a stalker,"

He's desperately trying to get someone, anyone to respond to him. But everyone knows his "buy silver/all politicians are crooks/buy gold/everyone but him is a communist/" shtick.

Palin?

The woman with the fake glasses?
(No prescription, just a prop.)

Alaska population as of July 1, 2007: 683,478.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The vice-presidential debates should be great.

Paris for President!

"That's really funny considering how Nulli followed me around for three years. "

Paranoia strikes deep...

It's a slow day today, Tony.

Sorry to tell you. You have it reversed. Obama not only has Biden to keep him in line, he has Brzenzinski on his team. Obama is a just a sock puppet for his Zionist-banker-military- corporate backers. They picked a stooge who could move people like a TV evangelist and so far it's worked.

He's desperately trying to get someone, anyone to respond to him. But everyone knows his "buy silver/all politicians are crooks/buy gold/everyone but him is a communist/" shtick.

When the shit storm reaches hurricane force, don't say I didn't warn you.

TR -- When the people who know her best are confused, you have to figure that it was just a weird selection by McSame. Scary, because he could win, and we could be stuck with more of the same plus McSame's newly uncovered "weirdness factor".

No, T&C, I see it as judgment America can not afford, not now, not after 8 years of corruption and incompetence. We've seen how a person's gut-feelings have plunged us into a cycle of disaster after disaster. That is what McCain just did to the GOP. He's single-handedly tried to fillet them into nonexistence.

The lemmings haven't caught on yet, but Palin's unreadiness cannot be covered up by a gushing media, when half the MSM is scouring Alaska as we speak for evidence pointing either way. And since the Republicans have been most vocal about her seeming unreadiness to even lead THEM, how is that going to translate on the Party who's shills are now comparing her to Teddy Roosevelt?

They have lost their minds, and I don't plan on trying to help them find new ones.

McCain-Palin '08--Experience Matters? Not So Much

From the Alaska State Senate President, REPUBLICAN Lyda Green:

"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com

And this glowing recommendation:

State House Speaker John Harris, a Republican from Valdez, was astonished at the news. He didn't want to get into the issue of her qualifications.

"She's old enough," Harris said. "She's a U.S. citizen."

www.adn.com

"What matters most right now is John McCain's comically dangerous sense of judgment. He picked a running mate he met once for 15 minutes, who's been the governor of a small state for a year and a half, and who is in the midst of an abuse-of-power investigation in which she appears to have lied rather blatantly. She has no obvious expertise in any area, and no record of any kind of federal issues. McCain doesn't care.

Sensible people of sound mind and character simply don't things like this. Leaders don't do things like this. It's the height of arrogance. It's manifestly unserious. It's reckless and irresponsible. It mocks the political process. Faced with a major presidential test, McCain thought it wise to tell an imprudent joke of lasting consequence."

www.washingtonmonthly.com

I was also struck by McCain's willingness to gamble not just with our country, but with his own campaign. He has chosen as his running mate someone he has barely met; who has no experience dealing with the kind of scrutiny she is about to face; who has, by all accounts, not been fully vetted; and who is in the midst of a scandal. That is a shockingly reckless thing to do. Obviously, I think it's worse to gamble with the country, but taking this kind of crazy flyer on someone you don't know nearly enough about is recklessness of a different kind, and worth noting in its own right.

When I think about the respect that John McCain had worked so hard to develop, the stature he'd taken years to cultivate, and the reputation he'd built his career on, it's breathtaking to see him throw it all away. If there's a more complete collapse in modern political times, from hero to clown, I can't think of it.

We're poised to learn a great deal about Sarah Palin, but we've just learned even more about John McCain. He's fundamentally unsuited for the presidency.

www.washingtonmonthly.com

The vice-presidential debates should be great.

Especially when they start beating up on Biden, for beating up a woman with a baby.

The selection of Governor Sarah Palin as John McCain's vice presidential running mate unites the Republican Party and energizes its conservative base, Richard A. Viguerie said.

"McCain has chosen to balance his ticket with a principled conservative. Governor Palin's life story is one of sticking to principle. She is living proof that a person can take on the corrupt political establishment - including corrupt leaders in her own party - and achieve great things," he said.

Viguerie, the Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, added: "There's an old expression in politics: Go along to get along. Not this time. The selection of Sarah Palin is one big kick-in-the-pants to the corrupt establishment in both parties.

"Congratulations to John McCain for hearing and responding to conservatives. Conservatives, the base of the party, have been listless. But, now, nearly all will work enthusiastically for the McCain-Palin ticket. In fact, this is the most enthusiastic conservatives have been since the era for Ronald Reagan."

He concluded: "This is a grand-slam home run. Conservatives' feet haven't touched the ground since this announcement."

Tony,

I'm afraid unless Palin makes some huge faux pas, she ain't goin' nowhere. I grant you it was crazy for him to pick someone he talked to for 15 minutes, but he didn't pull her name out of a hat. This is a choice everyone from Rush Limbaugh to Rev. Dobson could get behind. Since McCain desperately needs the base, he went along with it. Probably figured Palin wouldn't be too much of a bother once they got into office.

Actually, she would be eye-candy, much as a magician uses in a performance. She will be a distraction while our government makes more money and power disappear into the desk-drawers of their positions. That is after all what government has become, a magic act...a shell game for which they do NOT return our watches and wallets when their done. If the McCain/Palin ticket is elected here's what you get:

Magician & assistent.

Magicians assistent.

Will most righties understand the allusion? Probably not.

Tony,

Gal, you're missing the point! Palin might be palatable to the conservative base, but she's prima facia evidence that McCain's judgment is absolutely wrong for this country.

Once people stop looking at the politics and look into who and what she is, they're going to find out she'd under an ethics investigation in Alaska started by the GOP. They're going to find out she isn't remotely qualified to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency as anything other than a visitor to the White House. She's unconcerned about the pressing issues of foreign policy and has said so as little as 30 days ago. She doesn't even understand what the duties of the VP are and said so in recent interviews. The woman may grow into a leader, but as of now, she's nothing close to the type of person capable of leading this nation in crisis, which is precisely what it would be should she arise to the Oval Office.

Its not about gender, its not about nebulous experience, its about McCain's amazing recklessness in foisting this person upon America after meeting her 2 times his entire life!

Please read this other thread I started as to why the things you post are the daggers with which we can slay the anti-truth, anti-reality, anti-justice rightwing echo chamber in which logic and reason are considered liberal fantasies, and actually looking up information before forming a conga line is considered communism.

www.drudge.com

PS...

Yes he did pull her name out of a hat. The hat was marked: People who the gullible-conservative-right will love because of being "right" on the issues.

There was zero consideration whether she'd be good for the country or brought talents to this nation to better its journey. She was right on hot-button, conservative issues and she has a uterus. That was all McCain considered without doing the proper vetting, which throws immediate doubt onto her having been chosen in the first place. It also says that in McCain's judgment of all GOP women, Palin is the most ready to be VP. Not Rice, not Hutchison, not Dole, not Whitman-Todd, not Fiorina...rrriightttt.

When your state Republican Senate Leader says the governor isn't fit to run the State, much less the entire country, would you pick this person without looking under every rock and tree, or without a laundry list of accomplishments that no one would find fault with? Palin has none of these things, and McCain has no reasonable judgment. He just proved it again.

TONY

Alex posted some articles in the "Baby may be Bristol's" thread. The second Huffington Post article lays it all out on how bad the Palin pick was really, really well. Very salient points.

Thanks AU.

I can't wait for the McCain lynching squad to commence. Its going to be lovely watching the Party cut him loose like a hooker with STDs.

Forgetting all the available men for a moment, if John McCain felt it critical to select a woman in an effort to somehow grab the Hillary Clinton supporters, look at his choice of women he had available: Christine Todd Whitman, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Elizabeth Dole, Susan Collins, even - for goodness sake - Condoleezza Rice. Or Carly Fiorina. Each of these have marks against them, and perhaps some might not have wanted to run, but it's near-impossible to look at the list and suggest to the American public that Sarah Palin is the best choice of Republican women to be vice president. And again, this is ignoring the men he who could have been chosen.

www.huffingtonpost.com

That was a very good article Alex. Thanks for posting it. It's non-political yet clearly lays out what an awful pick Palin was and what a clear vision of McCain's glaring shortcomings when it came to picking her.

Hey since I'm full of predictions, here's another:

The GOP will find some way for McCain to fall "sick" and unable to continue the campaign after the utter debacle, now called Palin, is fully realized in about 48 hours, give or take.

Then the narrative begins on how McCain wasn't a "real Republican" anyway, and his insane choice of Palin proved it. Can't trust those mavericks not to go off half-cocked.

I guar-roooon-teee it!

I can't wait for the McCain lynching squad to commence. Its going to be lovely watching the Party cut him loose like a hooker with STDs.

Tony, this is where the 95% of the unreleased documents from McCain's Indian Affairs Committee investigation of Abramoff, Reed, Delay, et al come into play.

He could most likely bury almost every GOP politician in D.C. with what he's holding close to the vest and out of view from the public. That is his ace in the hole to prevent what you suggest. They're scared to death of those documents seeing the light of day.

Well AU, the shit is getting ready to hit the fan. The blogosphere is always a few days ahead of the MSM, so expect a lovefest on the Sunday shows this morning. Then, just like Gustav, expect the coming storm:

Former House Speaker Gail Phillips, a Republican political leader who has clashed with Palin in the past, was shocked when she heard the news Friday morning with her husband, Walt.

"I said to Walt, 'This can't be happening, because his advance team didn't come to Alaska to check her out," Phillips said.

Phillips has been active in the Ted Stevens re-election steering committee and remains in close touch with Sen. Lisa Murkowski and other party leaders, and she said nobody had heard anything about McCain's people doing research on his prospective running mate.

"We're not a very big state. People I talk to would have heard something."

www.adn.com

Today's Washington Post already is printing a story on how thorough McCain's vetting process was for Palin and Dan Balz buys it hook, line and sinker. I'm telling you, all the home-team players are being exposed for what they are and they don't even realize it yet.

Au- I was pretty impressed when i read it. The article contained all the negative feeling I had for his pick AND a few things I hadn't heard.

Palin is a joke.

Am I the only one with the feeling we're playing chess and the wingnutz are playing checkers, while thinking by moving a rook (nice symmetry, huh?) from their own side to our home row means "king me"?

They're going on and on about the politics of McCain's pick and what her views are without stopping to realize McCain just made the political equivalent of W invading Iraq while expecting flowers and chocolates for our troops. My, my, when the vetting gets done, McCain will realize he cooked his own goose without any help from the Democrats. Well other than Obama's lifetime speech which sent McCain into TILT mode just like in poker. He went all in with a pair of queens and Obama's holding pocket aces with another one on the board after the flop. Game over.

I hope Obama orders his troops not to say a WORD about Palin, other than what he said today. Let the media move this story, its already going at a breakneck pace as it is.

He went all in with a pair of queens and Obama's holding pocket aces with another one on the board after the flop. Game over.

Pair of Queens is too generous.

Queen/Rag on a bluff out of position is more like it. To me, a little more analogous to Iraq as well. The guy who impulsively calls "ALL IN" for the thrill - without a hand.

Lol...Good one.

Top Democratic Leaders question the nomination of Barack Obama to the office of president...

I guess Obama lied in that ad. He IS one of those kind of people who will take a job he's ADMITTED to NOT BEING QUALIFIED for.

He IS one of those kind of people who will take a job he's ADMITTED to NOT BEING QUALIFIED for.

I guess the vast majority of the American people don't agree with you Farmer, or have you failed to notice? Wanna know why Obama is proving himself capable of leading this country? Because he's run a $100 million organization for the last year and a half better than any of the other people running for President have.

Oops...idiot!!!!

When this campaign started, one of my biggest questions about Barack Obama was whether he would be any good at managing things. The President is, after all, the head of a very large organization, and he had better either have good management skills or hire a chief of staff who does. The fact that I didn't know whether Obama had them didn't prevent me from voting for him -- none of the other candidates I might have supported had a track record in management either -- but I would have been happier had I known whether Obama was any good at running things.

I don't have that problem any more. Obama has spent the past year and a half running a large organization -- as of last December, it had "about 500 employees and a budget of $100 million" -- and running it very well. It's not just that he and his team beat the Clinton campaign, which started out with enormous advantages. It's not even that he often did so by building effective political machines from scratch in states in which Clinton had locked down the political establishment. It's that every account of the Obama campaign that I've read makes it clear that he has done an outstanding job of constructing and running a political organization. For instance, this account of Obama's campaign is very much worth reading, if you want to get a sense of how he runs things:

"The story of how Obama assembled his top advisers -- and how he got them to work together as a team -- offers a glimpse into his approach as a chief executive who manages an organization of nearly 1,000 employees. Obama has built "an amazingly strong machine," says Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, president of the Chief Executive Leadership Institute at the Yale School of Management. "People expected a more ad hoc, impromptu, entrepreneurial feel to it. It has been more of a well-orchestrated symphony than the jazz combo we expected."

Indeed, in merging the talents of powerful Washington insiders and outside-the-Beltway insurgents, Obama has succeeded at a task that has traditionally eluded Democratic candidates: forging an experienced inner circle who set aside their differences and put the candidate first. "The whole point is that it's not about any of these guys," says longtime GOP strategist Frank Luntz. "They feel blessed. They see it as how lucky they are to be working for this man, at this time, in this election. This is the dream team for the dream candidate. I waited all my life for a Republican Barack Obama. Now he shows up, and he's a Democrat.""

You can find more good descriptions of the Obama campaign here and here.

Executive ability is not the most important thing in the world. (For one thing, hiring a good chief of staff goes a long way towards making up any deficiencies you have as a manager.) But it does matter. At the beginning of this campaign, I don't think anyone knew whether Barack Obama would be any good at running things. Now, however, we do.

www.washingtonmonthly.com

Right back at ya Farmer Dunce!

Gal, you're missing the point! Palin might be palatable to the conservative base, but she's prima facia evidence that McCain's judgment is absolutely wrong for this country.

No, Tony, I assure you I am not missing the point, and I agree with you that by picking her McCain has demonstrated both a lack of judgment and a lack of charater. He has also demonstrated that he is putting politics before country. I was just pointing out that since the base loves Palin, I don't think she or McCain will be deep sixed unless Palin makes a huge error. I could be wrong, and if I am, it would make for very entertaining political theater.

I was just pointing out that since the base loves Palin, I don't think she or McCain will be deep sixed unless Palin makes a huge error.

Gal...

With all due respect...Palin, herself IS THE HUGE ERROR!

The ask-no-questions and I'll-tell-you-no-lies rightwing echo chamber (also known as the MSM) just hasn't got around to uncovering the truth about her non-arguable, complete lack of ability for being VPOTUS.

Her stances on issues won't matter when it becomes common knowledge the chief Republicans in Alaska don't feel she's capable of running their STATE, much less this nation in a time of crisis. They're already talking and of course Fox isn't letting "YOU DECIDE". But the words aren't walking back. Not to mention the fact the GOP has under under investigation for ethics violations with absolute irrefutable evidence she lied to investigators.

McCain didn't vet Palin or he never would have picked her regardless of her stances. This is why she's not long for this campaign. She was DOA. Its just that those already in the bag for the GOP haven't bothered to look under the hood yet to see that the engine's blown. They're all to enthralled with the way it looks on the outside.

I hope Obama orders his troops not to say a WORD about Palin, other than what he said today. Let the media move this story, its already going at a breakneck pace as it is.

The only two Democrats who I think should talk plainly about Palin are Bill and Hillary. Bill because he has actually been president; Hillary because Palin is being compared to her.

Yes, I agree with you. I hope the MSM interviews some of the people in Alaska, mostly Republicans, cited in your links, who are now speaking up about her.

Here's something I've been thinking about: how many parents would trust their children's welfare to an totally inexperienced babysitter? Not too many I don't think, especially if the children are young and/or have special needs. Why should those same parents trust the welfare of their children's future to someone like Palin who has no experience, and apparently very little interest, in domestic and foreign policy issues. It defies common sense.

Judging from the first two speeches she has give as VP nominee, her main role in the campaign is to be chief cheerleader for John McCain. Conventional wisdom says VP candidates don't affect the outcome of elections, but this is a year in which conventional wisdom is often being thwarted. The old saw about no one voting for or against a VP may be the next bit of conventional wisdom to bite the dust. We'll see.

I would like to amend something I said earlier: according to a reporter who interviewed her recently and who I just heard speak on Meet the Press, Palin does know something about some domestic issues, in particular energy as it relates to oil and gas production and the effect of oil prices on the economy.

Gal...

I concur wholeheartedly, that is why I know Palin is completely wrong on multiple levels, most of them having nothing to do with political biases whatsoever. It will come out in a few days and all of this will be manifestly clear as to just how unprepared she really is on top of what it will reveal about John McCain's unfitness for being POTUS in having chosen her in the first place.

Because he's run a $100 million organization for the last year and a half better than any of the other people running for President have.

Then why is John McCain two points up in the latest Zogby poll having not spent half as much?

Not very good at "executing" then, is he? LOL!

Acta non verba, Tony!

Alaskan papers aren't the only ones. Any honest person with half a brain (so that should include most GOPhers) also question the choice.

Farmer...

You must plant your crops in beds of rocks....

Obama lead has increased to 8 points from 2 down on the Gallup Daily Tracking and he leads in everyone's multi-day polling having taken place since last weekend. EVERY.

www.realclearpolitics.com

Tony, by you OWN criteria, John McCain is 5/3x a better Executive than Barack Obama is...

...leave it to Democrats to throw money at problems and achieve nothing!

...leave it to Farmer John to be able to post that without the word "Iraq" entering his tired old head.

LOL! It's a 3-day tracking poll Tony and the "bump" is already closing w/Palin data "just now" entering into the calculation.

For all practical purposes, the DNC could have saved $50 million and skipped the convention altogether. In fact, it looks like the RNC's looking to save a bundle by dropping a few days off the itinerary.

Gidget Goes to Washington.

Some of follow daily polls, FJ---If there's something ablut Palin to hoot about I'll know that before you.

...cuz voter care more about "deeds" than "words"... and Nobama is all smoke.

...that's why he's sitting out the hurricane TALKING about evacuations... and McCain and Palin are IN the area CONDUCTING evacuations (or doing their presidential best to look like they are).

What's interesting is Palin didn't give McCain more than a one point gain in Texas---That would be the target-rich Evangelical environment he's trolling for?

"Or doing their presidential best to look like they are...."

In plain-speak, they're pretending.

Just out of curiosity, how does the pretense of McCain square with your "deeds not words" bit?

SheepFuckerJohn,

McPain and the bimbo are there getting in the way of people working hard in advance of the storm. The disruption caused by this pair of sick publicity starved assholes will probably result in actual people being killed by this unwarranted and dangerous distraction.

Great Job, McCainey!!!

...just like Nobama...

evidently his limitations as the Obamessiah fall short of stopping hurricanes... and his talents are best served by "staying out of the way" of the executives.

executives like "Helluvajob Brownie" you must mean.

how does the pretense of McCain square with your "deeds not words" bit?

Sometimes you have to place yourself in a position to render assistance... McCain has done that. Obama has not. One "can" and is "enables", the other "can't", and has disabled himself.

The words "yes we can" don't mean much if the preparation for doing something is determined by an attitude of "why bother, I'll only be in the way".

I look forward to the pictures of McCain in a helicopter rescuing storm victims while the pictures of Obama in his warm, dry hotel suite follow them...

The most interesting thing about today was George W. Bush earnestly pretending he gave a damn about Gus---

I'd have thought anything that recalled Katrina would be eschewed by Republicans---But hey, give McCain and Palin rain slickers and see how long they spend filling sandbags.

I look forward to the pictures of McCain in a helicopter rescuing storm victims

Oh yeah,

That'll happen.

Oh wait. Will he be the pilot?

George W Bush is delighted he doesn't have to trek to St Paul and try to make those delegates clap him. He is playing with his bike at Camp David.

Please, MORE personal insults and invectives.

In the Gustav political chess game, Obama would appear to have "backed" himself into a corner where even a pawn could take him out....

Is there only a pawn and a king left on the board, FJ? LOL.

Okay, McCain & Palin in a small motorboat rescuing the rooftop flooding victims...

I'm sure the campaign will get LOTS of GREAT footage.

Anyone recall the aftermath of Katrina and Bush's photo-ops in LA? Now, I expect to see some of those again in near future. Published by Democrats.

Is there only a pawn and a king left on the board, FJ? LOL.

So far the Democrats all seem to be unidirectional pawns... with Republican "knights" jumping them at every turn.

Okay, McCain & Palin in a small motorboat rescuing the rooftop flooding victims...

You live an odd fantasy life.

Maybe you can swap Ray Nagin for Nobama in November. I don't think many of your supporters will notice the difference...

Hey, as a person who tries to objectively look at everything before completely choosing my judgments, I give kudos to McCain and the GOP for what they've decided to do with their convention.

It certainly marks a contrast from 3 years ago, and even though their late concern is welcomed by those about to be affected by Gustav, it won't erase and will likely reinforce precisely what was lacking from their collective response during Katrina.

Class move today.

"John McCain's VP pick is the governor of Alaska, a unknown hockey mom named Sarah Palin that no one ever heard of. The only other job she had in politics was the mayor of a small town known as Wasilla, Alaska, and now she has the opportunity to be on a ticket opposite of Barack Obama, the first black man she's ever seen."

Maher - brutal, frontal and funny!

and now she has the opportunity to be on a ticket opposite of Barack Obama, the first black man she's ever seen."

Ah, the race card... hilarious!

...almost as funny as mine!

Maybe you can swap Ray Nagin for Nobama in November. I don't think many of your supporters will notice the difference...

If you have to tell everyone it's a punch line it wasn't funny in the first place.

LOL! Then I guess people can ALL tell the race card, when its' played, too.

Your boy John bought a pig-in-a-poke, and its going to expose him as the hair-trigger, "maverick" this nation cannot afford! Its all coming out and Fox will be the LAST place you'll find it:

The McCain campaign has gone to great lengths to present the selection of Sarah Palin as one made after a careful, meticulous vetting process. But evidence continues to suggest that the Arizona Republican made his VP choice with surprising haste.

As of this weekend a source says that the McCain campaign had not gone through old newspaper articles from the Valley Frontiersman, Palin's hometown newspaper. How does he know? The paper's (massive) archives are not online. And when he went to research past content, he was told he was the first to inquire. "No one else had requested access before," said the source. "It's unbelievable. We were the only people to do that, which means the McCain camp didn't."

The Frontiersman did not immediately confirm the revelation. And there is no indication from the Democratic source that anything nefarious or problematic will be found in the archives. But officials with the paper did not recall inquiries by the McCain campaign.

"I cannot confirm that information at this time," said publisher Kari Sleight. "I am not aware of the McCain campaign researching our archives, but archive requests do not usually go through me."

If true, the failure of the Arizona Republican to access the newspaper clippings becomes another in a growing list of revelations that calls into question just how and why he made his decision to choose Palin. A rudimentary clip search, such as this, is presidential politics 101 as campaigns not only look for the majority of background information on any high-level appointee, but also try to prepare themselves from future attacks.

It has been previously reported that the McCain campaign did not contact Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, who Palin pushed to have fired after he refused to remove her sister's former husband from the state's police force. That controversy, an investigation of which will be made public in late October, could cause major headaches for Palin in the days leading up to the election.

Ready to lead what, the GOP right off a cliff?

Here's even more from "John McCain's Flying Circus VP Review and Sideshow":

In addition, the former Republican House Speaker of Alaska, Gail Phillips, admitted to reporters that she was shocked by McCain's choice of Palin, as "his advance team didn't come to Alaska to check her out."

Even McCain's own aides seemed unprepared by the choice. After Palin's name was announced, spokeswoman Nancy Pfotenhauer was asked about the governor's relationship with the Senator.

"You're running flat into the wall of my ignorance here," she said. "I truly have no indication whatsoever the extent of a relationship that exists with the Governor of Alaska."

In light of these reports, the McCain camp has sought to dispel the notion that Palin was un-vetted or chosen out of purely political motives. Even though the presumptive Republican nominee met his now-running mate only once before choosing her, aides have begun arguing, the two are "kindred spirits" and have shared ideological bearings. In a Washington Post piece Sunday, Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager, said the Palin chose was not a last minute call. The process, he added, was rigorous and involved sifting through financial and other personal data, as well as an FBI background check.

"Nobody was vetted less or more than anyone in the final stages, and John had access to all that information and made the decision," Davis said. "It's really not much more complicated than that."

This is how McCain treats the most important decision any Presidential contender has to make?

And you guys want to defend him without ever knowing just how little he knew about Palin before pulling his pick out of his gut, like real mavericks often do?

Its indefensible on its face and ludicrous by its lack of proper foresight and investigation. Please go ahead and defend someone who places this nation's interests in such high regard that his own spokespeople can't answer the simple question of his prior relationship with his nominee.

He met her exactly TWICE in his life.

It was a strange moment today on Meet the Press when Brokav informed Pawlenty that Palin's mother-in-law wondered why she was running and said hadn't decided whether or not she would vote for her:

The New York Daily News tracks down Palin's mother in law who is considering voting for Obama. "Sarah Palin's hometown rallied around her as mayor -- now Republicans wonder if the rest of America will warm up to the surprise pick from cold country. Though her mother-in-law has doubts. Faye Palin admitted she enjoys hearing Barack Obama speak, and still hasn't decided which way she'll vote 'I'm not sure what she brings to the ticket other than she's a woman and a conservative. Well, she's a better speaker than McCain," Faye Palin said with a laugh. "People will say she hasn't been on the national scene long enough. But I believe she's a quick study."

Per a new USA Today/Gallup poll, 51% say they have never heard of Sarah Palin, while 22% have a favorable impression of her and 7% have a negative one. There is also wide uncertainty about whether she's qualified to be president. In the poll, taken Friday, 39% say she is ready to serve as president if needed, 33% say she isn't, and 29% have no opinion. That's the lowest vote of confidence in a running mate since the elder George Bush chose then-Indiana senator Dan Quayle to join his ticket in 1988. In comparison, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden was seen as qualified by 57%-18% after Democrat Barack Obama chose him as a running mate last week.--

I saw most of this focus group this afternoon:

Republican Polster Frank Luntz conducted a focus group with undecided Minnesota voters, reacting to the Democratic Convention, Sen. Obama's acceptance speech and the McCain-Palin ticket. Event was sponsored by AARP.

www.c-span.org

When asked, most people in the group, who were undecideds from both parties, said they liked Palin. However, most people also said she was too inexperienced and that, as of now, her lack of experience would be a factor when they voted in November because McCain was also described as "old" and "too old" by a number of them.

Oh, yeah, most people in the group also said that a McCain presidency would be like having a third term of Bush.

One more thing, Palin got the highest positive response in her speech when she talked about being the one to turn down the Bridge to Nowhere, so if she really wasn't onboard with that until late in the game, Democrats need to bring this fact out. Turn her greatest asset so far into her greatest liability, or should I say lie-ability. If it can be proven she is more a liar than a reformer, it will be all over for her--and for McCain.

This is something everyone should see and comprehend:

www.dailykos.com

It is earthshattering in its implication and shocking in its reality in the year 2008 America.

It speaks to how rigid theocratic dogma causes otherwise good people to make incredibly stupid decisions allowing all around them to suffer in the consequences. And so should those who blindly follow the lead of political hacks who tell them what to say and do without first engaging their own internal factcheck before throwing themselves and their own credibility off the cliff for the sake of someone they likely didn't know much about outside of her religious/conservative bonafides a mere 72 hours ago.

John McCain is unlikely to recover from the sheer rashness of his ill-perceived judgment of Palin.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter.

As much as I'd like to say THIS TIME they couldn't possibly squirm out of it...your point is sage advice.

No one ever went broke betting on the stupidity of the American public.

"Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." - Mark Twain

"imbeciles who really mean it"

AKA used car sales.

Hey, people like Farmer John and 51773 still think McCain is the best thing ever. About 75 million more fools like that and he could get elected.

McCain, who had an uphill battle to begin with, just sealed his fait with the Palin VP choice. His central theme, experience, has be undermined and now Women voters are flocking to Obama as most are insulted that McCain would pick a woman to get the Hillary votes. Had Hillary won, I assure you McCain would have picked Michael Steele or someone of African American decent to get the black vote. This would have had the same affect however.

I do find it hilarious how staunch conservatives are trying to put a good face on this, all the while knowing that this was a bird brain selection. You know who I want to hear from... Mitt Romney. I'm sure he's steaming!!! He's been uncharacteristically silent.

Let's talk about the "baby killer" comments. During the 70's when abortion was illegal, babies were still being "killed." This act was coined the "back alley abortion" or something like that. Now that abortions are legal, we should, as Obama laments, work to reduce the number. No-one wants to have an abortion and many people just need counseling to let them know they are not alone and that there is help. Unfortunately, once the baby is born, all too often, the anti-abortion advocates stop their good deeds. So it's no wonder people want to have an abortion. If you're truly about helping people, help them after birth as well.

LOL!

Yes it is hard to beleive 48% of registered voters would vote for someone who zero governing experience and no legislative accomplishments. But I guess thats why well tanned voters support him at 90%.

...but would the vote for Obama if they really knew him???

Bross2, I agree that we should help babies after birth, so, I would suggest that you write Sen Obama and ask him why he voted against a bill that would provide medical coverage to babies who surived abortion attempts. For a man who wants to reduce abortions this seems a bit odd. Remember, Obama said he didn't want his own daughters punished with a baby if they made a mistake . . .

hey Palin's "bridge to no where" claim wasn't a lie, it was just a fib, you know a little white lie, that's acceptable, taking credit for something you did not do is the republican way!

Hey all you Obama haters out there in Ozone land:

When was the last time McCain/Palin got 38 million Americans to watch and listen to them speak on coming together as a united community and improving this nation by putting differences aside and seeking common goals?

When was the last time Senator McCain or Governor Palin spoke about representing anyone but for their ideological constituency, instead of representing the greater good of all Americans with each having a say (through their representatives) at the outcome?

When was the last time you looked at the continual decline of basic American living standards as a problem actually created and catalyzed by a selfish movement, that continues trying to imply merely increasing the wealth of the haves improves the well-being of the have-not's?

When was the last time you noticed that the candidate you blindingly mock has continued to surpass standards never before reached in the entire history of this nation's politics, such as the most primary votes (caucus' inclusive), the most money donated ever (and growing) by the greatest number of individuals doing so, the most well-run and disciplined campaign organization nominally EVER (according to Yale's Chief Executive School's President), all headed and inspired by someone admired the world over for his calm, measured demeanor and ability not to immediately drop into cliches and malaprops?

Its fine to wish your preferred candidate success on his endeavors. It becomes rather demeaning to ignore the obvious talents, gifts and vision of someone capable of inspiring this nation to reclaim its greatness again from those who sell little but dumb, repetitive, sycophantic "sameness" as meaningful change. It also speaks volume to the disrespect so many heap upon someone, and those who believe in his message, out of sheer frustration that their messenger is not inspiring nor inspired.

Hey, all you Palin haters out there in Hyposcrisy land:

When did viciously attacking decent people with real lives and families serve to "bring together communities and improve this nation by putting differences aside and seeking common goals???

You talk the talk but ALWAYS FAIL to walk the walk.

Hypocrisy, Part II:

Palin was NOT vetted by the McCain camp

Repoters who showed up in Juneau and Wisilla were told they were the first to ask for records. The McCain camp has finally sent a team of 8 to do the vetting that should have been done months ago.

John McCain: "Ready to Vet on Day Three"

You don't think raising five kids, one with Down's Syndrome is "inspiring"? You don't think a woman serving the people of Alaska on their town boards, as their mayor, or as the Governor isn't "inspiring"?

The hypocrisy of this is stunning. K
