Why did McCain really choose Palin. Was it the Quayle factor but in a skirt?

He appoints some inexperienced unqualified unknown Alaskan politico to be his running mate? Why? Seems that in McCain we have a cross between Bush I and Clinton. On the one hand he wants some nobody, a la Quayle, who he can tell to go away and disregard. On the other, he likes the fine lookin ladies and opted for some eye candy. Some one to make him go schwing during those long cabinet meetings?

the only part that is disturbing for Moder8 is that he likes women... Moder8 thinks that's icky...

Are you asking for speculation? Otherwise it is a rhetorical question.

Pandering to the Hillarites. Pandering to the religious right.
Either that or it's McCain's new "Mondale Strategy"
Be Well.

Sorta like 0bama catering to longtime Washington insiders who wanted someone like Biden to rein him in a little eh Spudmeister?

That's a parlor game, Scotch. If he'd chosen someone like Palin, R's would piss and moan that neither had any experience. Since he chose Biden, the talking point is he has too much experience.
Magic tricks, all.

Oh, and did I mention McCain was a POW?

Palin is a hard core republican. Christian conservative, NRA, pro-life even in cases of rape. Limited experience(I think I've been to parties with more people than she's governed in Alaska)
And she looks 12 years old next to grandpa. And the republicans are cheering? THIS is McCain's response to Obama's awesome speech? How absurd.

"Since he chose Biden, the talking point is he has too much experience." Danforth
Yeah I know too much experience putting the Senate asleep with his longwinded storytelling.

Leave it to Scotch to miss the point entirely.

"Oh somebody's missing the point and it ain't me."
Scotch even misses the point about missing the point. Typical.

Pray do tell noble Danforth what point I'm missing? The only point I hear is that Biden is much ado about nothing - not too experienced (except in his own narcissist mind but then that's a trait every U.S. Senator including McCain shares).

"Pray do tell noble Danforth what point I'm missing?"
It's all a fucking parlor game. Ask an opponent who THEY would pick, and if the nominee picks that person, the opponent will immediately attack.
Are you new to politics, or what?

She may be the least qualified Vice Presidential candidate in the history of the United States. (Dan Quayle is throwing a party tonight.)
So what possible reasonable explanation is there for the choice? I think about it from all angles but it just doesn't make sense given the number of other qualified individuals he could have chosen. Maybe he really does just want some sexy woman hanging around him all the time. Maybe he really does just want to fuck her. I really do believe we are a getting bizarre insight into the nature of John McCain. Disconcerting, especially in light of the Cluster Fuck the next POTUS will be inheriting from the Worst President in U.S. History.

Mod,
So what possible reasonable explanation is there for the choice?
Several, actually.
1. She has strong conservative bona fides which is something McCain desperately needed given the apathy the base has shown toward him.
2. She's a woman. Putting a woman on the ticket is clearly beneficial for obvious reasons by itself.
3. She's not only hot, but handles herself well in front of a camera. She adds some much-needed freshness to a ticket consisting of a really old-dude.
4. Hillary. An awful lot of Hillary supporters remain very disgruntled, by putting Palin on the ticket McCain is hoping to tap some of them, in more ways than one.
Had she been governor for at least a couple of years longer, this pick would have been a home-run.

Moder8 -- My bet would be that McSame either already tapped Palin's keg, go got close to it.
But to her credit, Palin's qualities as listed by Jeff J are probably the qualities that made McSame think she would be a credible boost to his campaign.
IMHO, however, McCain's leering at his new VP nominee shows bed control over his mannerisms and impulses, and reflects poorly on his judgment.

"McCain's leering at his new VP nominee shows bed control over his mannerisms and impulses"
Funny I thought the same thing watching 0bama leering at Biden and Edwards. Well at least McCains impulses are heterosexual.

McCain is a old horn dog.
He was running around on his first wife by having numerous affairs while they were still married before McCain even started his adulterous affair with his now current wife Cindy.
The guy has the morals of an alleycat.

No way to prove, but my guess is that he has already had sex with her, or came pretty close. And I think most GOPhers would agree, that is a good basis for a VP choice.

"The guy has the morals of an alleycat."
Yeah like Bubba Clinton, Ted Kennedy and all the other Dems. Oh wait a minute McCain claims to be a Republican.
Chris I know who you should vote for - Chuck Baldwin. He's faithful, will deport the illegals and is against homosexual marriage. I'd vote for him myself but the thought of a theocracy in the U.S. scares me.

" my guess is that he has already had sex with her, or came pretty close. ' posted by M8,
That would have been during the single 15 minute meeting they had before he chose her.
A 72 year old lasting up to 15 minutes is awesome. Marvelous thing, modern pharmaceuticals.
I wonder how long GWB [erformed with his first meeting with Cheney? Probably cheated and wore kneepads.

Last time I checked moron, Bubba, and Teddy are not running for POTUS. It is Obama, - a happpily married man with 2 daughters.

2 minutes for the sex, 13 minutes for the background check, in the order you prefer.

McCain publicly admitted to having "vetted" Sarah Palin one time prior to choosing her as his VP. lol

Then Lester clearly sets the stage for what he is about to say by warning his large audience and Palin. He says, "Governor you can't say this but I will, Lyda Green is a cancer and a b----." Palin laughs for the second time.
What were teenage boys thinking when they heard the governor laugh at someone being called a b----? How about the teenage girls who look up to Palin. What did they think when they heard her laugh? - from Alex's link
Sounds like deja vu. No wonder McCain likes her.
I always get a kick out of christians who won't use certain words but will substitute other words (smith for shit) and wholeheartedly enjoy someone they agree with using those words.

And,
Lyda Green is a cancer survivor, which makes Palin's amusement even more unchristian.
