I'm not afraid of putting links up that make Obama look bad. The reason I don't promote FactCheck very often is that I don't think much of them. Their "corrections" contain too many dumb things like this:

"McCain meant that comment as a joke, getting a laugh and following up by saying, 'But seriously ...'"

When asked to define rich, the only number McCain gave was $5 million. That was a dumb answer, not a joke. When Obama mocked McCain's dumb answer in his speech, he wasn't stretching the truth. He was mocking a poorly phrased remark by his opponent, which is something all politicians do all the time.

It wasn't a speech, it was a sermon. Preached to the DNC faithful, high upon the mountain. And just like you can't let pesky facts get in the way of a good Jumpin' Jeremiad, they don't apply here either.

The speech was written and delivered primarily to keep the Clintons from getting pissed off, to give the MSNBC team giant stiffies, and to send the tears down Oprah's face.

Check, check, and check.

Of course, it's unreasonable to have any expectations of truthfulness or fairness from a politician. Politics attracts people who exult in their own value.

After all, they entered politics as a good cause to be able to do positive things. And most of all, these politicians are truly insightful narcissists, who realize that the best cause is themselves, and their own advancement. Everything else is secondary.

Politics attracts narcissists. And a narcissist advancing his own cause, himself, has no misgivings and no scruples, since after all, the good cause is served by his statements.
