Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Barack Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention was seen by more than 38 million people, an audience larger than that for the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, final American Idol or this year's Academy Awards.

In a related story 3800 attended Gampy Poopypants rally today.

fucking a right they did. Lets see McLame come close to that. Did you see how he read his entire speech today? He is a terrible speaker.

speaking like the messiah will never be a part of his resume. so what?????????

if you think that makes him stupid, then you are really mistaken.

I would hope that mccain also doesnt speak from some sort of temple in minn either.....talk about gawdy

I only watched about 3 minutes.

Convention speeches:

Our side rocks and is the best for the US. The other side sucks and hurts the US. Three cheers for our side!

Pep rallies, preaching the choir, and other cliches.

If it is like all the other "Obama math" the numbers are closer to 3.8 million. About the same as the O'Reilly Factor, or 4 times more than Olbermann Countdown..

so newriverbrewer votes for someone with no record, who is in favor of partial birth abortions(aka sucking the brain from a 5 month old), who got a sweet heart deal from a loan shark, who is "his brothers keeper" eventhough his brother lives in a hut on $12 a month. But he can READ speachs.

Now we know why the framers of the constitution did not include "one man, one vote". They new the newriverbrewer's of the country would destroy it.

I bet more watched, I was in a pizza place and the speech was on with a full restaurant of watchers.

The owner at on point tried to turn to sport and was boo-ed and yelled at so much by the customers that he had to turn it back.

Obama has definitely captured the American people.

"If it is like all the other "Obama math" the numbers are closer to 3.8 million."

Yes. Because the Obama campaign controls the Nielsens.

Good grief.

if you think that makes him stupid, then you are really mistaken.

No, he's not stupid ... but he is unprincipled.

If you can honestly say the Palin is the BEST choice for VP out there, then you are really a lost cause. His choice was political, and he's thrown away his "forgein policy experience" argument - which was CENTRAL to his campaign.

Pull your head out of your ass - just this once.

Another 38 million will see it as it reairs

I was out this morning and I overheard a lot of conversations about it. All positive.

a neighbor vacationing in vegas said all the sports bar TV's were turned to Obama's speech, guess they were worshipping the mesiah or participating in a grass roots movement!

Would someone who supports Obama explain why he did not address the foreign threats to this country in his speech last night? According to the constituion, the primary role of the president is to act as commander in chief. Does his ommision of the national security threats facing this country from his speech indicate he does not view them as real or is he afraid to discuss them?

No, he's not stupid ... but he is unprincipled.

or maybe they were just all broke......

38 million watch Obama at Invesco Field Friday making it the most-watched convention night in history.

The total beat the Olympics opening ceremony, Academy Awards, or American Idol finale this year.

Wow! Holy shit. I here the far right knees here on DR a knocking! LOL!

"Would someone who supports Obama explain why he did not address the foreign threats to this country in his speech last night? Posted by midtowncowboy"

"I argued for more resources and more troops to finish the fight against the terrorists who actually attacked us on 9/11, and made clear that we must take out Osama bin Laden and his lieutenants if we have them in our sights."

"You don't defeat a terrorist network that operates in eighty countries by occupying Iraq. You don't protect Israel and deter Iran just by talking tough in Washington. You can't truly stand up for Georgia when you've strained our oldest alliances"

"As Commander-in-Chief, I will never hesitate to defend this nation, but I will only send our troops into harm's way with a clear mission and a sacred commitment to give them the equipment they need in battle and the care and benefits they deserve when they come home."

"I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and curb Russian aggression. I will build new partnerships to defeat the threats of the 21st century: terrorism and nuclear proliferation; poverty and genocide; climate change and disease. And I will restore our moral standing, so that America is once again that last, best hope for all who are called to the cause of freedom, who long for lives of peace, and who yearn for a better future."

BLT, I am not at all concerned about McBush being 'stupid' - being senile or suffering the early stages of Alzheimer's worries me a LOT more. Do not try to pretend that he isn't having problems recently with his memory or keeping facts/names/places/dates straight and those are all early signs of Alzheimer's. I am not saying this to be mean or to diss the man. I am saying this as someone who has observed him lately and worries that we might end up with a president who is mentally unable to perform his job. That should worry EVERYONE. McBush should have a complete neurologic workup and have the results made public.

As for Palin - she is pro-life and that is fine but I would like to stress that a great many people who believe in pro-CHOICE take that stand simply because they do not feel that the government has the right to MAKE the choice for them. I am one of them. I could never have had an abortion but that does not mean I have the right to tell someone else what to do. No one had the right to tell Governor Palin what to do when she found out she was carrying a Down's child. She is lucky that she has the monetary resources to deal with the massive bills that are probably already piling up. Many people don't.

I just hope that her personal, family situation was not a reason to choose her! Would she be able to carry on if something happened to McBush should he be elected? I have no idea but she has to answer that question and she has very little time to do it. I have to tell you that her educational credentials do not inspire confidence. A bachelor degree in journalism is not what I consider adequate educational background for someone who could very well assume the presidency within the next 4 years. The Presidency is NOT a position where someone can learn on the job (as Shrub has demonstrated) and at the very least, an educational background in the law and the Constitution should be part of the CV of anyone aspiring to become Vice President of the United States - a position a heartbeat away from the Presidency!

I can hardly wait to see the debates between her and Senator Biden.

Wow. That puts him somewhere in the vicinity of the first broadcast of "The Day After" on Novmeber 20,1983.

I hope that's not some kind of omen.

"Would someone who supports Obama explain why he did not address the foreign threats to this country in his speech last night? Posted by midtowncowboy"

yes, but I missed that part, so why did he not address it while I was listening, he could have waited for me to get back from the head

so newriverbrewer votes for someone with no record,

Much better to vote for someone who is second place Miss Alaska.

At least she is used to finishing second.

what???????????????? are you trying to tell ME that people watch sports and DONT have a bet on it..
wow.......you learn something everyday......wonder if that might help my bank account.......LOL

and of course you see.......the poster said they were in vegas..........

I was in Vegas sat down and watched a cubs game last year. No betting, just fellow Cub fans and some beer...

I disagree with significant portions of your posting, DawnGlo, but it was well written. Nicely done.

yse, that sports bar is normally for showing sports that they are normally betting on, but not during the Obama speech, now let us get the ratings for McCain's speech next week, OK? Maybe even visit those same sports bars in vegas, OK?

maybe we should invest heavily in General Foods, OK?

Meh. Highest rated show of all times was the M*A*S*H finale. And it sucked. Ratings shouldn't matter to anyone but a showbiz celeb.... hey wait a minute.

you have no clue that this is correct. you have nothing to support it but liberal talking points....
you base this on those points and that he told someone he didnt know how many houses he had when we find out it is so many and so many investments and a couple belonging to his wife after this man has been on the road for two fuckin years.

why does it bother you that so many people watched, what does that comment make you?

38 mil, what is that, 9-10% of our population?

38 millions viewers, and the population is what 250-300 million. (not sure what pecentage makes up

121 million people voted in the 2004 presidential election. The fact that Obama pulled 38 million viewers for that speech -- 18 million more than Kerry four years ago -- isn't good news for the McCain campaign.

It wasn't Obama's best speech... it was good, but not great. Sounds more like Obama missed a great opportunity.

IN resopnse to earlier, There are ONLY residence and age requirements for the following: Supreme Court Justice, President, Senator & Representative. Not saying law background wouldn't help but, it is not needed to qualify.

Complete strangers

You don't read before you post, do you?

To disparage Palin, is not to know her, watch the VP debate, you'll be amazed! Biden will be left in the dust, literally, he won't know what happened, or how! She IS a perfect fit, and with brains, and a set of BRASS Cajones (a Spanish word, but you get the picture), too!

Remember, not ALL the brain-power is located within the limits of New York City, or Washington, DC, regardless of popular, local, opinions!

Obama has LESS experience than the VP candidate of the Republican Party, not my thoughts, but the truth, check it before you respond (a useless request, I know! Shoot from the lip, not the hip)!

noticed a little item in local paper:
Sarah Palin, serving her second year as governor of Alaska might not have a deep government resume, but she brings to the McCain ticket valuable experience as the No. 2 pick in a contest. In 1984 Palin came in second in the Miss Alaska pageant, assuming the same duties she'd have as vice president: biding her time in the event the winner becomes unable to fulfill the duties of the office.

FactCheck tears this speech apart...

.......well....I don't follow liberal or conservative "talking points" ...but ..I do have one or two clues.........

......in the last two years, 4 million American families lost their homes to foreclosure......

.....is that normal ?....does it happen in other countries at such a rate ?....can it really be that two million families a year take out bad mortgages ?....

......every year.......between 1.5 and 2 million families go bankrupt from medical bills....75% of whom were insured.......is that normal ?....does it happen in other countries ?....is that the way it should be, you work hard, are insured, and then you go bankrupt when you get sick ?......

........these are just two of the clues I have....there are more........but those are just a sample of the challenges facing this country if we want to maintain our position among the top 20 in the world in terms of standard of living......we have already dropped from the top 10, and if we keep going the way we have.......

........then we will drop even lower........

WOW!!!

Two posts in a thread you accuse RCADE of posting just to 'try.... diverting our attention'. Let me guess, it's not your fault....it's the ADD.

As for the temple comment, do you now think that the major government institutions are temples as well? Such as the Supreme Court building, the White House, the Capitol building, the Lincoln memorial?

I guess they're all Grecian temples now in your eyes.

p.s. That's not a Greek temple on the back of that lone one dollar bill in your pocket.

Too bad it wasn't 300 million. The more he's on, the worse he does in the polling. Biden sure hasn't gotten more popular with face time, has he? Even among Dems.

We'll find out Monday whether or not I'm right. The McCainiacs need to stop complaining about all the Obama coverage. As long as it's all Obama, all the time--McCain doesn't have to do much.

I only watched about 3 minutes.

A giant sports stadium filled to the rafters with adoring supporters. Worshipping their new Savior and Deliverer, who has surrounded himself with the images of a Greek god.

The politician who will finally create the Socialist Fatherland (the National Socialist Worker's Party = NAZI|)they all hunger for.

The Only Man who can restore the economy, the prestige, the honor and the respect of the Fatherland.

"Tell us what we must do, oh Dear Leader. Just tell us and we will obey."

The Messiah thing will be out in full force next week in the Twin Cities as the dwindling faithful pay tearful tribute to their messiah, a pussy whipped, third rate actor who had a political "epiphany" on the exact same day he married money.

"...Twin Cities as the dwindling faithful pay..."
will you promise to post McCain's numbers of TV viewers after his speech?

side note:
Obama had 80,000 in a stadium designed to seat 75,000
McCain had 15,000 in a stadium designed for 20,000

Obama is better suited to be a TV evangelist. He could make a fortune.

15: And behold, I saw The Anointed high up, and He was surrounded by many witnesses,
16: all of whom hoped audaciously that He would deliver them from the evils of the Bush. His words soared, inspiring the beasts of the field and, yea, the birds of the air, and he gave all creatures on this terrestrial ball hope.
17: And above Him rained stars from heaven, burning with brimstone and fire as they alit around Him.
18: But I looked to the North, and beheld a Woman of immense power and beautiful appearance. This woman alit from a giant white eagle, and joined another great evil, this angry man from the sunspotted desert.
19: And she forced them to behold her, and she distracted the thirty eight thousand thousand witnesses to The Anointed, and threw all the land into great turmoil.
20: The Anointed's Handlers were confused, and muttered to themselves, saying, "Holy Sh!t!"

No, have to correct this, they think Republicans are trying to make that true

They believe America's future is very very rosy if they get rid of Bush's income redistribution plan (redistribute to the rich with tax cts)

Redistribute to the rich with tax cuts . . . . hmmmm. Nothing like a little Orwellian doublespeak just before bedtime.
